The Red Lion in Wycombe

Called the pub before we went because I've been there 5 times and 4 times they'd run out of steak. I was told they had Rump on the phone but not Sirloin.Went with my brother and ordered the steak meal. After paying for the meal in advance we were then told they have Sirloin and not Rump and would have to pay the difference as Sirloin is more expensive. No issue with that. Food was all different temperatures. Chips and onion rings hot. Tomato and steak luke warm. Meat was not seared as the steak normally is. Also the steak was the worst I've ever had. It was full of fat right the way through. About a third of it was fat which I obviously didn't eat. Staff smoking and vaping outside which is fine but no one came over to say how is the food. The guy behind the bar came to take the plates as he was outside and could see we were finished and said I'll take them plates away. I said I'm not usually one to complain but that steak was full of fat and it was the worst I've ever had. He apologised and I said it's not your fault but I thought I'd let you know. He said that I got stiffed with that bit of steak and I bet I wish I'd had the rump now. Obviously trying to make light of the situation which I didn't have a problem with as it's an easy way out of someone complaining. I wasn't offered a free drink or any discount. Would have been nice to have been offered. I normally leave a tip but obviously didn't. Anyway have a look at the photo of the leftover fat and see if you would have been happy with being charged £48 for two steak meals with a sauce and two lagers. For the record my brothers steak was lovely and he had virtually nothing left over. 28/08/24. Still no good will gesture after leaving this review. Won't be going back.

Really nice pub. The beer is always perfect, the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Plenty of tvs to watch sports in one part of the pub and a separate seating and waiting area. All in all a really good pub!

I have lived on the village now for years. This pub has gone so down hill. Drugs in the toilet. Manages all the time smoking. Staff for some reason are rude. Would not recommend at all

First of all staff should be welcoming. This was not the case at all. The food was on par with weathspoons. Also food was incorrect. Other than the dart board not sure what this pub has going for it. Bring back the good old days where you would be welcome into a public house.

Stopped here for food ordered steak medium with peppercorn sauce. Arrived poured on sauce and cut in to steak to find it was rare so sent it back. They cooked the same steak again making it medium and tough & brought back with no sauce so just a dry steak poor service also must of run out of tomatoes as no grilled tomatoes on my plate

Amazing service, Tom and Jade were absolute superstars, Julie our waitress was also amazing, very welcoming and friendly. Food was 10/10, very fresh produce with amazing condiments. Will definitely return. Compliments to the chef

Visited with my wife and disabled father in law. Ordered a normal meal and two Seniors meals, two courses for £10.99. Ordered main courses at the bar with drinks. Went back to order desserts with the Seniors meal and was told that because I hadn't ordered them at the same time as the mains they were a separate item and I had to pay for them. The manager was called and he said 'yes the menu doesn't make it clear', obviously this has happened before. So the menu doesn't make it clear, the bar staff know this but don't tell you. The manager wasn't bothered. Got up and left. Three things:- The manager is supposed to manage, if he had just said sorry about that, very unclear, on this occasion I will put the desserts through. The cost to the pub of the desserts would no doubt be offset by the extra drinks I bought and he has a satisfied customer. If he knows there is a problem with the menu tell his manager/company and advise his staff to tell the customer to order both courses at the same time. I won't be going back, there are other pubs offering standard pub fare in the village and surrounding area. A bad review on Trip Advisor - bad reviews are always read first! and as a final thought - If I was his manager I'd read Trip Advisor and manage him accordingly.

The new layout and food was really good!

Manager Tom is the best manager of a bar I have experienced. Friendly kind and part of the team. Anyone wanted to come to the red lion will not regret it.

Staff were friendly despite being busy, standard expected atmosphere for a Friday night. Pool table, dart board, and TV so good spot. Food took 30 minutes, however did order steak & ale pie so could be why it took longer. Crust was hard though and mash average. Partner had hunters chicken, the chicken looked microwave and barely warm, chips and onion rings stone cold.

Excellent that the RL has reopened, well laid out with plenty of entertainment options without being overly glitzy.

What a lovely place to visit. Its now a Hive pub and you can see and taste the difference in quality. The food was delicious and the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Living just across The Green I can see myself making frequent visits once again.

The Red Lion has just re-opened and it’s great to see what they have done with the place. Nice to see some sport TVs and a pool table, which gives it a great atmosphere. The food was lovely and our server Zelda was a delight. Very happy to see this pub open again :)

Been into the Red lion on 2 evenings since opening. Really nice atmosphere on both occasions. We had food on the first night which was all really nice. All of the bar staff are really friendly and doing a great job. Will definitely be the new local!

I was here to train the new management & Front of house team on our tills and back of house software. The guys here treated me like a guest throughout my stay over the 2 days I was here. I had the bacon & cheese burger which was cooked to perfection & came out juicy and pipping hot. Tom the new manager is a cheeky moneky with a sharpe wit who will entertain you while you get served + all the bar team were full of characters. Come check them out - they didn't pay me for this review ; )

Happened to go in the day before it officially reopens, but they let us in and served us food. Had a terrific Steak and Ale Pie. Prices very reasonable (£12.49 for the pie, mash & veg). Beautifully refurbished pub. Can't really give 5 stars for the atmosphere as it had not officially opened! Lovely pub and friendly staff. Will definitely return!

It's shut and no sight of a pint being poured despite Google saying it's open, it's not open there is giant hoarding outside

Absolutely amazing service from Perry and Harrison. We'd had an outdoor baby shower planned around the corner, then the heavens opened! We had lots of food prepared and nowhere to put people. These chaps sprang into action when we asked if there was any way we could bring our party in, creating a lovely set-up in the glass room and letting us bring our stuff in to create a party space off the fly. They could not have been any more polite, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Thank you so much! And beautiful pub.

We were called out to fit 2 tyres at this pub's car park. We parked our van in the car park, told the staff inside that we were parked just to change someone's tyres and then did the job. A few weeks later, we suddenly get a letter for a CCJ parking fine of £270. I've seen a few others post the same thing happening to them here - seems like a major scam which the pub surely knows about. Disgraceful.

Popped in for a quick pint and a snack, as it’s my new local (again) as moved back to the area. Fantastic service, friendly with a smile. Great food. Definitely worth a visit. Definitely will be making this my new local.

Lovely pub, very near the green. Very nice inside with friendly staff and excellent food. We had a little bit of a wait for food as I think it was busier than expected today. Good choice if you are in the area.

Came up for lunch having heard there was new management and a new chef. Ordered a starter, mains and dessert and both mine and my friends was fantastic. The starter in particular (the skewer, see pic below) was spectacular. Our server was the manager who was professional and provided great service. The atmosphere was really nice and candle lit on the table. Will definitely be coming again to try more dishes, particularly with an ever expanding menu.

Went on a Saturday evening. Very quite, and a decent place. They take amex.

Popped in for a spontaneous dinner and was blown away by the food. Ordered the soup starter as a main and the steak as they had a deal on. Both were fantastic and me and my partner left full and happy! The food was beautiful and flavoursome and servers were friendly. Will definitely be coming again.

Only went for a drink, but probably the best welcomes I've had from a pub in years. I didn't get the young guy's name who was on the bar but it was top notch service 👌

The pub itself is average but the real issue is the carpark. I recently received a £100 ticket despite being a paying customer of the pub. Apparently you are supposed to register your vehicle upon arrival, but nobody tells you this. When you contact the pub management to attempt to get the ticket revoked, they are not interested. The pub have employed the services of the rogue carpark firm "UKPC" to "manage" the carpark, and it this lot that are now sending endless threatening letters chasing the £100 that they somehow think I owe them. I will not be paying. The signs in the carpark that are supposed to make you aware of the requirements when entering are pretty much non existent; the few signs they have put up are tiny and strategically placed in areas you are unlikely to see them (at knee level behind parking bays, where they are hidden by cars). The carpark itself is barely lit, so if visiting at night night you stand absolutely no chance of seeing the signs. The carpark has one small light and funnily enough UKPC opted not to put one of their signs anywhere near the light. Why the pub management wanted to get in bed with this bunch of pirates is beyond me, as the carpark is never full, and is seemingly only ever used by it's customers. Really odd decision. If I was a cynic I could be forgiven for thinking that the pub management were in cahoots with UKPC to increase revenue from parking fines, as opposed to "managing" their usually empty carpark.

Arranged to meet an ex colleague for lunch. Checked webpage before meeting to check the menu. When we got there we were informed that they had no chef even though their website stated that they now had a chef. Must admit was a little disappointed. Not updating their website is the reason for the 3 star.

Relaxing place for a fews pints, clean tidy and a nice ambience.

BEWARE. We had our Company Christmas meal in December 2019 and the bill was approx 1k. The lady behind the bar entered my reg in for car parking. 2 weeks later I got a parking ticket. I asked them to rescind given I was a patron and they have done nothing. Now I’ve been served with CCJ and waiting on a court decision/date which I’m going to defend. Please don’t go through what I am experiencing and go somewhere else for your meal. Somewhere you are welcomed.

6 managers in 3 or 4 years....Closes early without warning and although it advertises food 9 times out of 10 they aren't doing it..Lovely interior but never no more than 2 people ever in there....Keep away. Please note since my review the pub has apparently been handed back to the brewery....My review was referring to the last owners who held the lease. I have not reviewed the current owners but have heard its just as bad as before.

outrageously the Pub has signed up to one of these parking scam companies . I visited here one evening in February to meet with an old friend. I bought two rounds and left an hour half later. Now two months later I am being chased for a £100 fine for allegedly parking in contravention. Having not visited the pub before I reasonably assumed the Red Lion Car park was for patrons of the Red lion, RATHER THAN A MONEY MAKING SCAM. Disgraceful behaviour from a pub trying to pretend to be part of the community. Please avoid.

We waited 45 minutes for our soup and bread which was served only just warm the crusty bread was nice .we sent the soup back to be re heated it came back not much hotter . We were the only ones in the pub so it was busy . I can heat a tin of soup in less than 10 minutes

Simply fantastic. New management, new menu and everything is amazing. We had the Halibut and Steak dishes along with the Camembert starter all were incredible. Staff were terrific also

We have been to this venue a few times and its lovely interior, BUT have had my gf's purse stolen on one occasion and the place can be intimidating as has a lot of Travellers who regularly drink there. Sunday afternoons are great but unless you like that knife-edge atmosphere I'd avoid weekend evenings and keep your valuables with you at all times. Not for families.

We recently has our church group (11 of us) Christmas dinner at the Red Lion. We dined in the glasses off room area. Great Service from the Manager and staff, Christmas cracker and more roast potatoes than we could possibly eat. Three courses at a reasonable price with complementary coffee and mince pies to finish it all off. We last eat there as a group Christmas 2019 and God willing we all look forward to dinning there again next Christmas. Thank you.

Avoid the lunch menu.. slow service and poor food, especially for the price. Won't be eating there again, Disappointing.

The bar staff are very attentive and welcoming. The customer service is brilliant and I can't give the staff enough credit. We love coming here!

We visited today with three disabled young people and the staff really couldn't have been more accommodating, nicer or more helpful. We were all made to feel like valued guests, despite not being the easiest, and everyone really did go above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. The food was really good and they thought nothing of going to the trouble of blending a meal for my young friend, the lovely chef even came out to discuss the thickness required as she had experience of working with people with eating difficulties. The interior is really nice, with a fabulous looking private room at the back which I can't wait to try. I will be back soon for a proper evening with friends. Well done Red Lion, you are the best!

Managers/owners talk to their staff appallingly in full view of the public and also not the best to customers either.....spoilt the evening..I would say needs a new owner....better off having a night out somewhere else🤦

The Red Lion has recently been taken over by new management and ever since then the food has seemingly gone down hill. You'll pay over £50 for 2x Sunday Roasts and a couple of drinks and receive something that is of Tony Carvary quality. The roast dinners used to taste excellent with a lovely but subtle red wine flavour throughout and you could choose a range of meat / vegetarian options. (Vegetarian options have now been cut out) My favourite being the medium rare slice of beef that was cooked and flavoured to perfection with a delicious red wine beef gravy drizzled on top. Unfortunately this effort is no longer put in. None of the nice flavours appear throughout the food anymore as they have not been added in during the cooking process. The food also tastes like it has been made a while ago, cooked in bulk and stored ready to take out and serve at another time. The red wine beef gravy, gone! It now tastes like off the shelf gravy granules. I could only imagine that the food is now done this way by the new management as it requires less skilled work, cutting costs and making it quicker to cook and prepare but this is not the standard we are used to from this establishment and people can notice the lack of effort being put in. I hope the management at the Red Lion takes the time to read this review and get the food back to where it needs to be as it is the heart and soul of the Wooburn community and the village deserves better.

Lovely Sunday lunch, Best gravy I ever had, properly made from scratch. Also sticky toffee pudding and brownie amazing! The staff is incredible...If this pub was in London, it would be fully booked at all times!

Really nice pub with lots of space indoors and out. The pub is opposite the village green, perfect for taking our toddler to while we waited for food and drinks etc. Large car park too.

Slow service despite having to go to the bar to order and only a few people in the pub. Empties were left gathering on the table. When it was highlighted that the washroom had run out of hand soap on two occasions the landlord was rude and dismissive and stated it would have to wait until the cleaner came the next day. Another patron had to find some in the other washroom. Shocked that basic hygiene is not important in this pub.

Lovely village pub decorated to a high standard beautiful old beams a lovely dining area and then you walk into another area of the dining room and it's got the wow factor. Very friendly staff food was great lots of parking space out the back very clean throughout and a lovely view of the village green,you will not be disappointed if you visit The Red Lion.

Just eaten a takeaway Sunday lunch and I’m very impressed. That gravy was to die for, the meat yum, and the veg and cauli ‘yousah’ I’m now off to fall asleep in front of the tv.

Please be aware, now a Private Car Park. Husband was not made aware the car details need to be logged when entering pub and received a car parking fine. When I contacted pub the staff were less than helpful and it turned into an expensive...

So much better than it was. Really friendly and helpful staff. But a few too many allowed in without masks not good in the current climate.

Pub is now a great place to go. Staff friendly and helpful But please guys make sure face masks are worn. Way too many people coming in and walking around without them. It's the law. Protect us and you! Make sure the rule is followed. You now have a great pub restaurant and I would like to come back if it is safe to do so.

Popped in for lunch after a long muddy dog walk. Staff very friendly and were really lovely with a very muddy dog. Food very much what you’d expect from a Greene King pub - we’ll served, beautifully presented, tasty and good value.

This pub is lovely decorated, friendly owners. The Sunday lunch was amazing and only £10! A good portion, well presented and good roasties. Rare to get it all. Would come back when in the area again but spend longer if we had the time.

Had the king prawn linguine and it was fab. Service was good and felt like a welcome customer. Check back to make sure all was ok.
