We came here for the steak night We rang and booked last minute and despite being busy the landlord booked us in I’m normally quite reticent about having a steak out - but I am so glad we had steak we had rib eye, tasty succulent and cooked to perfection Sides were good Portions ample Staff despite being so busy were helpful and timely- we weren’t rushed and didn’t wait for a long time We will definitely be back

Beyond amazing service and absolutely amazing delicious food. We had a lovely time at the Red Lion tonight and were so impressed with the standard of service, it was exceptional! Excellent with gluten free and they even had gluten free Yorkshire puddings!!…. Dog friendly area was great too. We highly recommend the Red Lion.

Absolutely lovely pub we went to dinner for. Coeliac aware and felt so safe giving my order as someone who works there has a coeliac daughter. I had steak with peppercorn sauce and chips and it was absolutely amazing! Portions are great and service was lovely. Super friendly people there. Had great gluten free options that are different from the normal options. Steak night is 30% off on Thursdays which we were pleasantly surprised to arrive to. Shame we don't live nearby or we'd be back regularly! Thanks so much!

Good food and service at good prices.

Visited a year ago and wanted to return as it was so good. I was disappointed at the negative changes. It was noisy untidy and the once cosy dining area felt like a cafe. For instance last time there were candles on dining tables not plastic lavender. The food was good which I suppose is the main thing. The triple cooked chips were particularly impressive as was the salad.The bar area was so loud with staff yelling several goodbyes to leaving customers. Customers around the bar seemed to be holding court with bar staff. I was expecting something more relaxing.

We didn't have a room, but eat and gad the Seabass and was lovely. Great sized fish portion. Cooked ti perfection. The only thing I would say is when it's so hot like it was today we only wanted Orange juice and it was warm. Which spoilt it. When hot please try and make surd got plenty of chilled OJ and others

We stayed for 2 nights at the red lion, the staff are all lovely and very helpful. We ate in the restaurant both days, the food was great and our room was spotlessly clean.

Popped in here for a meal following a short coastal walk in the sun. We found the restaurant area to be spacious and welcoming. The overall atmosphere was pleasingly calm and the area was very clean. My wife ordered Rainbow Chicken Salad which she said was wonderful. I had the Pork Chop on Wild Garlic Mash with Green Beans. The chop was served with some splendid crackling and was of a healthy size (large), perfect. The veg was well cooked and was nicely presented. I found the cutlery to be very blunt and if you have difficulty with your hands, as my wife does, it would be difficult to navigate such a large portion of meat. I would advise the proprietors to invest in some decent steak knives and forks. That said the meal was lovely as was the service. For desert we had a Sundae. Lovely. I would highly recommend this establishment for couples and families.

Top class food, and you pay for it too

Room was clean but basic. One bedside lamp which had seen much better days, Window opened wide or closed.No bathroom blind. Very basic.

Got a £60 parking fine for using their car park. There are no signs saying you need to check in, and the staff didn't say anything either. We just assumed it was fine, like a normal pub car park. But no, £60 for failing "to obtain a permit in accordance with the notified terms". Appealed it, appeal rejected. Considered taking it further and getting a lawyer mate to look at it - realised it wasn't worth the hassle for £60. But I certainly won't go there again. Seems like a con to be.

My partner received a £60 parking fine for using their car park when eating out there arriving in unbelievably harsh weather the signs displayed in the car park were not very visible. there were notices on the table... I do not think so. Would it be an innovative idea for the servers to check this has been done or on arrival at the bar. Anyway, she contacted the Red Lion who were more than dismissive. So, if you are desperate enough to visit this place make sure you have booked in Poor owner, poor process, and not interested in helping, and the food not that impressive go somewhere else

paid £40 for a really nice meal last week. was very quiet in there. a week later got a £60-£100 fine through my door for parking. everyone failed to tell us that we had to register our car. nor did we see a sign. we called up and got given the managers number to call. i called the manager and he told me that he gets loads of calls like this every week. and the signs are “so obvious” they are clearly not obvious if everyone is calling up and complaining. i’m annoyed that everyone failed to inform us to register our car while it was not busy, and we were spoken to by many staff during our meal. the signs are clearly inadequate.

Great food, excellent well kept beer. Food well cooked and generous portions great value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful hope to visit again.

Had a great dinner at The Red Lion. We were starving after getting off the Le Shuttle and decided on this great tavern, just 10 minutes away. We enjoyed the bacon and brie ciabatta as an appetizer. My wife loved her fish and chips entre. Huge piece of haddock. I really enjoyed the sweet potato and chickpea curry. (Only the naan was disappointing.) Would highly recommend a stop.

Last night had a family meal there the young man that served us was very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent I can recommend the wild creamy mushrooms and also the garlic prawns as me and my wife shared them and both we delicious also I had the belly of pork as a main it also was delicious so if you want a great night out and great food give it a try you won't be disappointed

Lovely lunch well cooked and delicious - would recommend Homemade pie Fish that you could see and not masked in a jacket load of batter Chips hot and crispy

When we visited it was far too full. Everyone was jammed in...The food wasn't too brilliant either..But I'm sure this was down to overbooking

Lovely meal, good quality, nice menu choices. Little bit quiet at lunchtime, but very enjoyable. Recommended.

Rooms above the pub, fair enough and pub patrons left at midnight. All good until the staff partied until 02:30!! One member kept imploring them to keep it down and move to the 'back room' but there was no sleep to be had until they left.

We eat at the Red Lion quite often but this last time the food was not as good. I ordered the Fish pie. Seemed odd to serve it with garlic bread and a salad. The pie included a very rubbery prawn, a couple of bits of salmon and the rest was coley. hardly any sauce so it was quite dry. I did eat it all but will not be ordering the Fish pie again. The service as usual was very good with a nice greeting when we walked in.

Great pub with rooms stayed 2 nights in a large, clean and comfortable room had two great breakfasts. The staff all very friendly and helpful.They had music on the Saturday night but no problem and the car park did not present a problem, just check your car in. Recommended and we would stay again.

Had a family Sunday lunch at the weekend and it was excellent. Have eaten there many times and several times since the new ownership and the food quality has followed on from the previous owners which I am very pleased about.

I am incredibly disappointed with the fact that this pub has not only brought in a third party company to manage it’s car park, but has also refused to cancel the parking fine when provided with evidence that drinks were purchased at the pub and the car park was not being abused. There are signs in the car park, however when arriving after dark, these are not clearly visible and as these restrictions are a recent change, return customers should not be expected to see them in the dark when they’ve previously been able to park with no restrictions. Furthermore, we were not informed when entering the pub and purchasing drinks that we need to register the car and now one month later, we have received a £100 fine in the post. We contacted the staff and owner of the pub who refused to get involved, and the appeal has now been rejected (even with proof we were customers of the pub) and we have been told that there is no responsibility for the pub to inform us of the parking restrictions. We have researched how these companies operate and the owner absolutely could have had the fine cancelled considering they own the land. I feel this is absolutely appalling and a terrible decision by the owners of the pub. We understand why parking restrictions have been introduced, even if we don’t agree with it, but to have these restrictions in place after 6pm when the council car parks are free, and then to completely disregard customers who have been caught out by the new restrictions, is shocking behaviour. We will never be returning to this pub again and I would urge others do not visit either as the owners clearly do not care for their customers. If however you do decide to visit this pub, DO NOT FORGET to register your car number plate otherwise you may also receive a nasty surprise in the post and the owners will not care to help you, even with proof that you were at the pub.

After many lovely dinners,and lovely times,my Sunday dinner with some friends who I recommend the Sunday lunch to was so disappointing,the potatoes were under cooked on one side,the wait was long ,and the meat was not what we,used toI understand you were busy,and we mentioned the food was well below what we have eaten in the past, the server she had no answer,so so disappointed

This is a pub/restaurant with rooms. My rooms was well-fitted out and airy although the wi-fi was poor (much better in the restaurant/bar). Friendly welcome as was the bar and table service. I had plaice - pretty good, followed by a really good bread and butter pudding.

We stopped in for a bite to eat and we received so much more. Excellent pub food was spot on. I knew as soon as I ordered the pork belly I would have food envy and sure enough the table next to us had gammon egg and chips and boy did it look good. Back to my pork. Plated in a cheffie way, time was taken to plate by someone who enjoys cooking. The crackling placed into the mash potato. The crackling was exactly that crackling and the pork moist and succulent. Gravy was flavourful and was soaked up by the mash. Really good food. Well cooked and well presented. My wife had scampi and chips, again crunchy and fresh with BIG fat chips.

not very impressed with the food this evening, tried to order pizza and was told they had no dough, they opened five hour prior to this so i would expect them to have been more prepared considering they have a 10 hour opening. got recommended the tomato chicken pasta. this was not edible. they pasta was undercooked and the tomato base was just tomato purée. my partner got garlic mushrooms as a starter these were poorly cooked aswell. there was no garlic in the and it was just a creamy sauce with no flavour. apart from that all staff were lovely but i would not come here again and i would not recommend.

Great Sunday lunch, will go again!!

First visit for Sunday lunch after new owners have taken over. Awful lunch, vegetables barely cooked,potatoes still needed another thirty minutes in the oven. Meat was dry and must have carved hours ago. Staff very polite and efficient. I saw another customer get up leave without paying.

After taking a long walk we decided to scour for a dog friendly pub restaurant. Well I have to say that’s exactly what we found. The landlady greeted us and from the moment we entered until we left, we were catered for well. For food I had chicken bites for starter filled by leg of lamb Sunday roast and finished off with sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. ALL of the food exceptional, the portions were well thought out and s the combination of ingredients perfect. Excellent all round guys and you have made the place look lovely. We will certainly be back again thank you.

Probably the best Sunday dinner we have ever had at a Pub/restaurant. The beef melted in your mouth, the roast potatoes were obviously home made and were delicious, also plenty of veg including cauliflower, carrots, broccoli. We will definitely return the next time we visit Hythe .

What a wonderful friendly pub. The food is amazing. The staff are very friendly. First class service.
