Glad the old owners have left it was shambles Arrogant rude Now it has new owners they are delightful And it’s a pub again no fussy fancy food just what Dymchurch needs

Called in here on Christmas Day for a drink, member of staff behind bar politely said there was only outside tables available. This was ok as we already noticed a packed room as we came in and said so. The member of staff then asked what we'd like to drink. I asked for Baileys, she asked "with ice", I replied yes but she just stood there - weird -asshe could be pouring my drink while my partner looked at the range of beers. Another member of staff standing to the side of the bar didn't seem interested in anything. A 3rd member of staff came along holding 2 x deserts and barked at us to take a table outside and someone would come and take our order. Needless to say we went outside and kept walking.

Lovely atmosphere, great food, good size portions, highly recommend, catered for vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian diners, accommodated a change of diners at last minute, all made to feel very welcome.

Amazing little hidden gem we found by accident, we are only down the road I'm sandgate and found this beautiful little pub for the best Sunday lunch!. Absolutely love everything about this place

I had only ever seen this place from the main road and it didn't seem very appealing, how wrong was I? What a great place, brilliant pint, wonderful and attentive staff, I will definitely make a bee line for this place the next time I'm in the area

The roast dinner was superb plenty of tender beef and large selection of vegetables and crispy roast potatoes and as much gravy as you want. One of us had the burger which was also very tasty . The staff were fantastic very helpful and polite. Would highly recommend if you are visiting Dymchurch. Good value for money.

Lovely pub, staff very friendly and their service was excellent even though very busy. The food was very good, traditional pub grub and the roast belly pork looked fantastic with all the accompaniments (food envy, wished I had ordered it). Would highly recommend if you’re in the area and Dymchurch isn’t too packed. Will return if in the area.

Visited with family and friends for a birthday meal , staff are super friendly and the food was fab , the prawn crevettes starter was amazing , food is excellent value all came out hot and portions are huge !! Tried a burger that was out of my normal comfort zone and boy was it worth it !! The Elvis burger was absolutely delicious 😋 😋😋 The beer was also very nice too !!

We made a last minute booking on a dismal and cold Sunday afternoon. Staff were very obliging and rang us when a table became available as we are only five minutes walk away. A lovely log fire blazing and cosy radiators ensured us of a warm visit. The freshly cooked food and very generous portions satisfied all four of us including a fussy vegetarian. My daughter chose the three bean chilli which she found delicious. The roast was tasty and plentiful. We didn't need puddings but shared two between us (obligingly given four spoons) just to sample their delights. We were not disappointed. My daughter's comment on the brief walk home was "how lucky to have such a gem on your doorstep! We plan to return again soon. Thank you.

We had dinner as 2 couples with a dog in the pub. The food was absolutely delicious, great portion sizes and so yummy! The staff were amazing, so friendly and accommodating. They really looked after our dog. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

Thanks to all the staff at The City of London, Dymchurch ,for making our family gathering very successful. Food was very good indeed and service excellent. So lovely here and excellent food too. We phoned late in the day on a Saturday hoping to book a table for our anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. We were so well looked after, as were our dogs, and would definitely eat here again. It has to be one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had!!! Absolutely lovely roast, we are so glad we came here. Catered for all our requirements- vegetarian, slimming world and gluten free 😀. The biggest Yorkshire puddings I’ve seen for a while. Really lovely and friendly staff.

I booked an annual lunch get together here for a local Group. Emma was a pleasure to deal with and extremely accommodating.The interior areas have all been redecorated since Emma and her family took over and they are now attractively decorated and furnished.As we were a group of twenty we had all preordered to save time. In fairness they warned us as soon as we walked in that food was a little slow tonight. Which it was very slow for a pub meal. Once it arrived the taste was very good and it was beautifully cooked. Went for a meal last night for our friends 59th wedding anniversary. It’s our first time eating there and will definitely be returning again the food was AMAZING from starters to our mains . Great food but no idea how to run a business. My one year old had to have an £8 kids meal because they refused to do anything lesser despite asking the manager and the chef. Had to wait 50 mins for pie, burger and kids meal despite there only being one other table in. Having said that, the two young ladies behind the bar were very helpful despite the obvious lack of support, and the food was yummy. I would recommend it, if you have patience

Great food stunning presentation well cooked and tasted amazing. Service was excellent. Even Vegan and gluten free really well catered for loads of choice. Free parking in road (low season) unassuming building disguises this diamond in the rough! Love it - Superb value for money compared to other more pretentious pubs in the area.

My family and I stumbled across this great little pub whilst coming off the beach . A small establishment tucked away in a side street.

Waited ages for food. Had to ask when we would be served as people who came in after us got their food first. Poor standard of food. Would not go back.

As a large group we almost dismissed this gem as the outside was not very inviting. Once inside we were welcomed warmly and shown an extensive menu with good prices. The food was amazing with very generous portions. Downside was no disabled access so six of our group ate elsewhere.

My wife and I went for lunch today. What a lunch it was. I had topside of Beef and the wife had pork. The portions were enormous, superbly cooked and presented and well worth the £13 per meal. There were various options on the ‘Specials board’ and menu to suit all tastes. If you want good food friendly service then you will not be disappointed. It well worth a visit. However, I would suggest you starve yourself before you go or ask for a doggy bag. We will definitely return.

The outside of this place is very deceiving. The inside looks as if it has been newly decorated.

From the outside you would give the City of London a wide birth, it doesn’t draw you in from the main road. We were recommended to it so walked to its beachside entrance and were met by a bright and airy bar and well appointed restaurant area.

To have read so many reviews on this pub/restaurant on both trip advisor and on the dymchurch page on FB. We decided we must give it a go as it’s very local and would be a good place to take any of our visitors.

We had a family meal for my sons 18th tonight. The food was amazing. Portion very generous. Quality of food not pub grub but high quality food in a pub surroundings. We highly recommend. Compliments to the chef. As my lovely mum said. Xxx

Second visit to this venue. This pub has undergone a transformation, although it still has some elements which need attention. However, food is great, tasty and piping hot. We all had different starters - scallops, asparagus and hollandaise, smoked mackerel in a tasty cheese sauce, whitebait and pork pate with chutney - all delicious. Then we took advantage of the Thursday special - two 80z ribeye steaks for £25, one of us had bluecheese sauce, the chips were wonderfully crisp, mushrooms and a half a beefsteak tomato. We couldn't find room for dessert! Adequate and well priced choice of wine. We'll be back!

Came to this restaurant today for a family meal ,drinks okay ,view fine , not impressed with long wait just to get our meals ,so far waited 40 minutes and still waiting ,people on table next door over an hour and just got theres ,we are still waiting so won't be coming here again ,this was our second visit over 6 month period, still very poor ,hour still no meal ,won't ever come back ,recommend eat ELSEWHERE

Just had 3 course meal with 27 friends. Can honestly say no one had any complaints about their meal. All plates came out piping hot and piled up with food. Come hungry you won't regret it, will definitely be visiting again.

Myself and my partner went to the City of London for an early birthday treat. The staff were helpful polite and clearly hardworking. We had the most wonderful meal! Which we couldn’t finish but really wanted too!!, the staff were happy to provide us with takeaway containers. The chef is excellent and we will definitely being returning. I cant recommend this place enough. Well done to all involved.

.Just had a lovely Sunday roast for lunch at the City of London. The food was of excellent quality and plenty of it. The staff were very friendly. Despite it being very busy did not have to wait too long for our main courses but there was a longer wait for the desserts. I would recommend coming here to eat and will be visiting again soon. We had previously walked past this pub from the seafront, and on the off chance decided to pay a visit for an evening meal. A quick check on the web site revealed a very pleasant menu. On arrival we were greeted by the barman who was very polite and welcoming. He gave us a menu each and directed us to a table.

After reading so many positive reviews we were looking forward to our family get together on Easter Sunday. Very disappointing unfortunately, we were the only people downstairs in the restaurant and definitely felt neglected (not by our waitress I hasten to add, she was trying). Our meal was booked for 12.30, we received our starters at 1.20 after having to ask for them (we were on the verge of leaving), the main meal also took a considerable time to come after we had finished our starters. The meal was average, vegetables good, beef very fatty, needless to say we did not stay for pudding. The bar upstairs was busy and we felt that was an excuse whilst we sat downstairs in the empty restaurant feeling overlooked.

We chanced upon the City of London as it said it was dog friendly and looked like it served good food. Bang on the money!

We were so looking forward to Easter lunch here. The photos of the food look lovely. I prebooked a few weeks before hand. We sat down at half twelve but didn’t get our starters until nearly half past one. I do appreciate that it was a bank holiday but we were the only people in the restaurant the whole time we were there. As we had taken the time to book I would have expected that to some extent our order would take some priority over the passing trade of people from the sea wall. We eventually got our main meals well after two o’clock. The meals themselves were fine but to be honest after nearly 2 hours we’d had enough. We had thought we would have desserts but just felt we couldn’t face another long wait which would take us to at least three o’clock. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to a relaxing lunch.

Visited The City of London for lunch with my husband and two children today. Staff were very accommodating of my 10 year old coeliac’s dietary needs. Lots of choice on the menu (or meals that could be made GF), including gluten free sticky toffee pudding . Large portion sizes. Highly recommend the lamb shank too.

Visited with family of 10 , good food ,nice service and fair prices. Will go again if I want a large meal that will fill me up.

We were in Dymchurch as a group of 12 and wanted to find somewhere to accommodate us all at short notice. A quick look on Google and found this place. It's relatively small but very welcoming, excellent service and the food makes it a hidden gem. We were all impressed with the food and would heartily recommend!

not impressed, my wife had a mushroom stroganoff which was just a large bowl of penne paste with a few slices of mushroom sitting in a watery sauce, the accompanying garlic flat bread was baked to a hard inedible crisp, the server showed no real interest when clearing away an almost untouched meal and being informed why it was not eaten, my meal which was lamb could only be described as reasonable,not what we expected after reading other glowing reviews, disappointing, i doubt we will go there again which is a pity as its local to us.

I'm writing another review simply because I can I have been back to this many times since last review and the standard has not dropped plus regular menu changes and specials also themed nights offering discounts.

Sunday lunch was amazing table of 5, the marsh lamb was cooked to perfection, the staff were very attentive with great service, try the peanut butter brownies amazing. Please don't judge a book by its cover, the pub was very busy I understand they have a restaurant down stairs would recommend booking for this reason

Had lunch with a large group of 6 children and 8 adults. Being a small pub, we didn’t have high expectations, but the food was exceptionally good and all freshly cooked. Highlights included the “runny scotch egg” which was perfectly cooked, the “old smokey” of mackerel in cheese, and the steak and kidney suet pudding. Certainly worth visiting.

We only went into this pub because it was close to the walk along the sea front and wanted to get in from the wind. What a find. We had our grandchild with us and straight away someone made sure the door was opened and offered to help. Even more of a surprise was the food. Portion sizes were more than generous and the quality of the food was excellent. I had the mussels which were to die for and for the first time ever I couldn't finish them as the portion was so huge. Our daughter had the whitebait which was supposed to be a starter/light bite but the portion was huge and again excellent quality. Friendly and good service - Will definitely be back for lunch

We called into this pub by chance on our drive back to Bexhill along the Kent coast from Deal. We were greeted with a warm welcome and planned on having a light bite. However, we spotted a Sunday roast coming out of the kitchen and couldn’t resist.

Various friends had told us how good the food was at the City of London. Therefore we decided to go for Sunday Lunch today. On arrival we were made extremely welcome by the owner Emma. Being the first there the seating was spacious and on two levels. We were sitting on the upper level by a nice welcoming log fire. Having spoken to Emma, she and her husband Jamie (The chef) had taken over the premises last May. During which time they had made vast improvements both within the public areas and kitchen. I appreciate we were the only ones dining at the time but the whole atmosphere was pleasing to the eye. The menu was varied with dishes to suit all tastes together with a ‘Specials’ board with a selection of different dishes. All at very reasonable prices. Both my wife and I choose the Roast New Romney lamb rump (locals will appreciate the taste of New Romney lamb. However, if you have never tasted it you will be in for a treat) and today was no exception. The accompanying vegetables were also excellent. All produce is where possible locally sourced and of the highest quality. I realise I have been rabbiting on a bit, but everything about our first visit was exceptional. If you are ever in the area it is a must visit. Parking is no problem. There is a large main car park opposite.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here on Christmas day. The food was excellent as was the service. Great atmosphere and we will definitely be regular visitors.

We went for my birthday meal with different ages of my family for the Christmas dinner. To be fair the dinner was great. The area we were sat in opened at 6pm and that's the time we had booked for, so we were the first ones in that area (downstairs). It was freezing cold as the heating was not turned on. We asked about 3 times between 6 & 8pm and finally it came on about 8.30. As mentioned, my 70 yr old Nan and 80yr old grandad were there and we were all trying to not ruin the meal by moaning about the cold, but it was flippin' freezing!!!

Went for family meal today nice clean and fairly smart .went there on recomedation drinks was fine nice selection, main meal roasts really nice ,scampi well over cooked not what we expected .pudding very poor Apple crumble custard nice but loads of it .Spotted dick was just cake with ginger added to it not nice .and the two knickerbocker glory s we thought should have been fruit ,ice cream ,and cream in a long glass with a cherry on top .we actually got chocolate brownie cake in a glass with cream on top and nuts in it ,glad none of us have a nut allergy pointed it out to the waitress and she it was a glory .in the end she didn't charge us for them .not impressed won't be going there again.wasnt busy either .maybe that was a clue for us ,elsewhere next time.

Went to lunch at The City of London to celebrate our 14th Wedding Anniversary and as ever wasn't disappointed by the food or drink. We both had the "City Burger" with a home made bun, absolutely delicious along with lovely chips. Couldn't resist a couple of cheeky pints of Old Dairy beer either !!!

This is a lovely and friendly pub and restaurant now run by Jamie and Emma. We have eaten here twice, once in the upstairs bar area and, more recently, in the newly re-opened downstairs restaurant.
