Lovely old pub, friendly bar staff, good atmosphere and I saw a lot of happy older customers in for lunch or a drink, probably a very good local pub but also welcoming if you're passing through. I took my son for a tea and coffee in the day after a walk through the village. Nice tables out back and a clean neat pub inside. Highly recommend.

Old lady behind the bar - very rude and un welcoming. door hadn’t even closed behind us and she was rolling her eyes, before I could even put my bag down to order some drinks and food for myself and my daughter she said “ people normally buy something if they come in here”! Shocked is an understatement! Won’t be stepping foot in there again.

This is a lovely pub in the centre of Lenham, there is parking behind the pub which helps. Staff are very efficient We like this pub as there is a choice of size of the main course. So if we are not so hungry or really like a nice pudding we know which size main course to choose Nice to see a pub used by locals, some go there for a drink so that gives a traditional feel, not always seen nowadays

Proper pub food. Great value, great service, and lovely friendly, old pub. Met a friend who is now local to Lenham and he recommended we meet there. Was not disappointed. Its not restaurant quality and does not pretend to be. It is pub food and done very well. Highly recommended.

Had a drink and some food with a friend, great service, food was very nice and came out hot. Very friendly helpful staff, I would recommend a visit , you won't be disappointed.

Only stopped in for a coffee, nicely presented with a mint, tasted good and not a rip off price. Can't wait to come back and try out the fish finger sandwich.

Lovely dog friendly pub in very pretty medieval village

Sadly this is not up to the reviews on trip advisor. Wouldn’t return I’m afraid. Too much gravy smothered everything. Photos on Trip Advisor make everything look so much better than it really is.

Nice traditional pub, lots of wood beams and interesting art work from the local area. Plenty of locals having a pint at the bar who didn’t stop talking when I walked in. Tried two local beers ( Master Brew and Sussex Best), they were both excellent. The Landlord and bar staff were polite and friendly. Overall a good few pints in a nice little Pub! Many thanks.

I was fortunate to go here on the 4th April to join friends for a wake and really liked the place! Traditional English pub feeling with all the usual quaint touches of lots of wood features and ale pumps! Will definitely return here once time in the summer time. Plus a beautiful church just 139 steps away with lovely grounds to walk about whilst you're waiting for the bus 😁

Having eaten here several times with family I returned with a friend for Sunday lunch. I have always found a very nice atmosphere in the pub with locals having a drink and others having a meal, so the there is still a nice local feeling For people wanting a smaller portion there is a choice, this is good for people wanting to eat less, particularly as you get older My friend and I had a roast, good choice of meat. Service and welcome are good Altogether an enjoyable pub to visit

Real Kentish pub that offers ales and food of high quality and at prices you will like. Amazing Landlady ,worth the visit just to talk to her.

Place was ok they wouldn't make my partner a coffee ☕ ( his turn to drive) as they said they were busy! We had just come from the dog 🐕 and bear 🐻 trust me they were very busy maid a coffee ☕ and the atmosphere in the dog and bear was fantastic. If you want a quiet not busy place and you don't want a coffee then the red lion is for you.

A group of friends attended Sunday lunch & popped in for drinks week prior Very grumpy older lady in dark black ‘ & landlady not attentive when asked for something . abrupt staff and not friendly ! Shame food is good but if staff were a bit jolly with customers it would make a massive experience to return . Try to smile when serving or when asking for our drinks/lunch requests After spending £200 + a little bit courtesy makes a difference . Don’t think we shall be visiting again till staff personalities change !

We were looking forward to our Sunday Lunch but as soon as we stepped in the door, we realised the place was packed, with a very large party, and all tables full, it was noisy and the atmosphere was manic, we waited nearly an hour for our food. We realise business's want to catch up after the pandemic, but if you cram in customers like sardines, you will lose business.

Called in yesterday with my wife for a late lunch after visiting the Pilgrim and Cross. Good looking old world pub, clean and tidy. Great pub food, reasonably priced, friendly efficient service and atmosphere. Would happily eat there again.

Lovely mushroom omelette and salad as well as steak and ale pie mash and peas, worth the money.

It’s a nice village pub with friendly staff…no problem there at all. However the fixed seating in the bar area surround is unbelievably filthy. I hesitated to sit on it but was out of options. Please get it steam cleaned or replace?

Building has character. Enough food to fill us up though basic. Three real ales- the London Pride wasnt quite right. Harvey's bit better. Staff were friendly and helpful.

For a fun filled night of laughs and great hosts then this little jewel is worth a visit.

Arrived for this meal booked some 4 hours or so, before. Arrived and was warmly welcomed. Shown to our table for 5 and 1 young child. The attitude of the staff was great and friendly. The food was served in a timely manner, and was delicious. The serving staff could not be any more helpful. We asked for the Chef to come out and we thanked him greatly for his attention to food detail. We Look forward to the next 120 mile journey from Ipswich to here, for the next meal.

Nice pup locals appear friendly, there is room to get away from the front bar should you wish.

We were staying next door, but popped in here for a drink and then kept coming back. Great friendly staff serving good local beer in a proper old English pub was just too much of a drawer for us. When we return to Lenham, we’ll come back for the friendly atmosphere and good beer

We had dinner in the pub the scampi and fries with peas was a generous position and well cooked my chines chicken curry with boiled rice was a little disappointing I think a boil in the bag meal

A phalanx of male locals guarding the bar awaited us as we entered, grim stares directed at us by the group. An off-hand, unfriendly barmaid raised an eyebrow in enquiry-highly unwelcoming. This is a charming period building and it was pleasant to sit in the courtyard garden but the beer/lager at £5.00 a pint is extortionate and customer service on this occasion, poor. I’ve given this place an “average” rating, based on the period building, but I shan’t return.

Fantastic pub! My partner was on crutches (broken leg) and first thing I should add is that they are disabled friendly - if in a wheel chair you may need someone on hand to help you into the ladies though.. Staff were friendly and welcoming! The place is 14th century and looks quaint and beautiful inside and out.. there is a fairly large garden with a shelter (it was raining when we went).. they serve great food and a great price.. you won’t feel hungry afterwards! They even do proper homemade chips!!!!! We loved the place! Find this place and I promise you won’t be disappointed.. there is a car park opposite the front of the pub which is free for two hours.. plus a proper village shop and post office and a pharmacy.. Thank you to the staff! They were brilliant.. This place is like a hidden gem! We are in love with it!!!

Very disappointed in Sunday Roast veg and yorkshire pudding great but roast potatoes and parsnip unable to eat overcooked and hard and the lamb was chewy and tough.Starter of prawn cocktail was much better stuffed with rocket very little of anything else but must say staff were very pleasant

Today we went to the Red Lion in Lenham. Waitress service was good. The older female working behind the bar had a nasty cough....coughed into her hand and carried serving drinks, March 15th, I could have sworn (according to Boris Johnson we are in the delayed phase of CORONAVIRUS) she needs to cough into her elbow or cough and then use HAND SANITIZER!! Food was ok.....I would probably have gone back for Sunday lunch but sadly because of witnessing bar service I WILL NOT GO BACK!!

Idea place foro a drink and bite on this section of the NDW. About 1/2 a mile off the walk but a welcome rest stop. A couple of drinks and baguttes all very nice .. Food , drinks and serivce fine, but bill incorrect with an additional coffee adedd. Landlady very apologetic and corrected the bill but , as always worth checking you bill, particularly if paying contactless..

We are regular visitors to this pub. We particularly like it because it isn’t a pub that’s been turned into a restaurant. It still has the atmosphere of a pub but does nice food. The food is good honest pub food without pretentions. The welcome is friendly and the service efficient. Today I had beef bourgignon which was very tasty and one of the specials. My wife had a roasted vegetable burrito. There was a short wait but only because the food was obviously freshly cooked. The puddings, spotted dick and jam sponge were large but light as a feather. All in all our meal was a really nice experience in an unspoilt old pub.

landlady, staff and locals very friendly (we spent over a hour talking to a local couple). Food portions were enormous my friend I could have shared a meal & been full. Vegetarian meals available, decent wine. Dog friendly came up & gave Polly Dog treats & provided water. Wished it was walking distance of where we were staying would have gone back for the evening.

Lovely olde worlde pub with wooden beams in country village square. Local clientele. Served a decent pint of Harveys bitter but let itself down by serving my wife a three quarters full chipped cup of instant coffee and charging barista prices.
