A really lovely meal, my first visit to Pepper Box Inn, definitely won't be my last. Food was superb, with great service. Thank you.

I had eaten here once before (last December) and knew, they were able to cater for my dietary intolerances if they were notified in advance. On this basis, I chose to eat here for my Birthday meal. I chose duck breast, with buttered chard, and pommes anna (which were recommended by Sophie as an alternative to dauphinoise potatoes, as I'm intolerant to onion and dairy). The meal was sublime, beautifully cooked and presented, and it went down a treat! As I couldn't see a lactose free dessert on the menu, Sophie came and spoke with me, saying they had a chocolate tart and raspberry sorbet in the freezer, both of which I could have as they didn't contain dairy. My goodness, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. The chocolate tart and sorbet were divine. It was, quite simply, the best meal I've had in a very long time when dining out, as I usually have to resort to fish and chips!! Not at this establishment; they can readily cater for dietary requirements without fuss or bother. The staff are always friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and it's just such a pleasure to dine out here. I will be back again in December! A big thank you, especially to Sophie for being so considerate in her menu recommendations; to the chef who cooks food so beautifully, and to everyone who works so hard in giving the customer a wonderful experience.

The food was very nice and dog friendly, which was why we chose it. I called and booked a table over a week ago and asked not to be sat by a door or toilet as this is a pet hate of mine. When we arrived we were shown to our table next to the door and toilet. If there was an issue when I called... something should have been said so we could have gone somewhere else.

Good food & always welcoming. Great fire in winter too!!

Great country pub, lovely Sunday roast

We booked a table here for our family for Sunday lunch to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We had a delicious lunch which was served in a timely manner, the staff were cheerful attentive and made sure we had everything we needed even though they were very busy. We all had a lovely time so I would like to thank all the staff for making our afternoon so special!

Glad we found this place! Proper country style pub, friendly staff and food was excellent! Already planned our next visit!

Very disappointed with this lunch & flies everywhere was off putting. Cheesecake was frozen and hard, then came back too mushy to eat.

I was here on the 31st August with my brother and his wife for his birthday as part of my holiday trip from Perth, WA. Old and awesome Country Inn. There is nothing like this in age in Perth so it was a real treat. The lasagne was very yummy and the lemon curd semifreddo cheesecake was full of flavour. Great attention from all the staff made for an excellent evening, thank you.

We have eaten here a few times and has always been very good. This visit was a Sunday lunch for nine people outside, and although most of the food was of good quality as usual and the staff very pleasant. Those of us that had the garlic lamb were disappointed as the meat was tough and bland. Three knives had to be returned as they were rusty and dirty and a glass had a crack in it. We were disappointed this time but will definitely return. It's a lovely old pub, and up until now the food and service has been excellent.

Decided to go for a long walk and came across Pepper Box. The food was amazing, and the staff were welcoming. Would certainly come here again.

Were made to feel "in the way" local was extremely rude to a member of our party will not be going back or recommending to anyone.

Lovely pub Kent’s GEM so lovely seeing an old and spoilt Pub with the beams and hops lovely view from The beer garden. My friend and I had fish and chips with peas and I had the liver with bacon I do not eat bacon, but my friend had the bacon she enjoyed her fish and chips my calves liver membrane was left on which should be removed before cooking, so i had to dispose of in a napkin, The gravy and the mash was lovely but I could’ve done with a little bit more spinach for veg my friend and I had desert coconut lime and mango ice cream I had my friend had chocolate dessert. we also had a desert wine which was really lovely. A nice peaceful lunch thank you Guys.

We arrived at this beautiful pub restaurant, didn't need to book, and was promptly seated, 7 adults & 3 children.....the food was very tasty, well presented, plenty of it & matched the price. The staff were friendly, very accommodating & kind. Pretty garden, with fabulous views. The building itself a perfect example of what an old English country pub should be. Sorry if we were a little noisy! My dad thoroughly enjoyed his 74th birthday. Thank you!!

O M G. We have been here a few times now and the service and friendliness of staff is always top notch. We went again today for both of our birthdays 70 and 73. Charlie who was behind the bar, ordering food , drinks etc was Excellant. Very friendly, and attentive . Each time we come we can’t fault of the place for any reason. On the recommendation of ChatGPT, I booked a table at The Pepper Box Inn. I didn't expect to find a reservation on a Sunday within 30 minutes of arrival, but the person I spoke to on the phone was very kind and accommodating, offering us a spot as long as we could leave by 2:30 PM. This was perfect for my wife, our 8-year-old, and me. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated, and our meal was served quickly. The food was delicious and of very good quality. We also enjoyed a couple of desserts, which were equally delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient, contributing to a really good dining experience. The pub itself exudes a traditional charm, reminiscent of an England of old, where people gathered in pubs to chat with friends and neighbors. It brought back fond memories of better times. Another commendable aspect was the absence of an automatic service charge, allowing me to give a tip to show my appreciation. The bill was much less than I expected, making it great value for money. We live 30 minutes away and can't wait to return on a sunny day to sit in the garden and enjoy the magnificent views of the Kent countryside.

Lovely pub but even better food. The duck breast in redcurrant sauce was cooked perfectly, as were the Anne potatoes. My wife had scampi and was equally pleased. Chef did a great job. Whilst most of the staff were pleasant and friendly, the middle aged lady that served us offered not a smile or pleasantry, and showed no interest in us other than to take our order. Still, the delightful food made up for her & I guess we were just unlucky to have that particular waitress, c’est la vie. Pub and food highly recommended.

A thoroughly enjoyable meal. The menu contains a nice mix of traditional pub grub and classier, locally sourced fayre. We selected the duck, peppered lamb rump and schnitzel, and all were of excellent quality: top cuts, with just the right amount of veg. Service was friendly and helpful. Only word of warning: don't approach from the south!

It's been a while since we visited. But, we found it quite pleasant this time, although the tuna and prawn baguettes lacked flavour. It was nice in the garden and the local labrador retriever jumped on the table and polished off what we had left as we walked back to the car, so nothing was wasted. 2.15pm is cut off time for food service, I think we arrived about 2.10pm but they accommodated us enthusiastically. Will go again.

This was our first visit to the Pepper Box Inn. We were not disappointed. The staff were lovely and very accommodating when it came to our gluten free and lactose free dietary needs. There was plenty to chose from and all freshly cooked. We look forward to visiting again very soon.

Lovely pub in beautifullocation. Country opening hours, i.e. check it's open before you go. Nice food and only reason I've not given it 5* rating is because of beer choice, which could be bigger.

What a lovely pub, and what lovely grub! A very well kept pub with a traditional feel. The staff were excellent and a friendly welcome from them and the locals within. A good menu with a specials board. My wife had the plaice and thoroughly enjoyed it whilst I had one of my favourites - liver and mash. Excellent. If we were local this would be one of our regular haunts. Very pleased we picked this to eat at whilst on our short break in the area, and would recommend it to anyone.

Our second visit to the Pepper Box and it was great! We booked last minute and got a nice table with comfy chairs. The food was amazing, garlic king prawns to start, lamb rump for mains and a delightful passion fruit crème brûlée topped off with a candle as the pleasant and attentive man serving us overheard it was my birthday! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We have decided it is now our favourite place to eat and will definitely be going back.

Visited on Saturday to celebrate a birthday and were a group of 11. Food was amazing, clean plates all round! Service could not be faulted either. Very enjoyable Visit and will certainly be visiting again soon.

We have visited the Pepper box inn 3 times now and excellent service and food each time. The staff are very friendly too. The last time we came was for my husbands sisters 70th and had a lovely lunch, excellent food and wine. And the two members of staff that were serving us , Jean and Charlie made our visit perfect. We will continue to visit and use the pub for special occasions. We live in Bearsted but the drive is well worth it

First time in years that we visited this pub, having been living in the New Forest for 30 years but will certainly visit again. Both food and service were first class.

I booked our meal and asked for 1pm, they were fully booked and was offered 3pm, not a problem, happy days. We got to the pub at 2pm and were pleasantly surprised, nice open fire going, busy but not rammed, great pub atmosphere. Ordered some drinks at the bar, pleasant staff asked if we had a booking we did, they had a table ready which was a bonus. I had roast pork loin, and the wife had beef. The food was superb!! The staff although busy were extremely accommodating. Great little find, well worth a visit and we will definitely be going back.

Visited here for my Birthday after a recommendation from years ago. Wish I had visited a long time ago. This is a fantastic pub/restaurant, family run, three generations!! Somehow we left without paying a tip… so we will be making it our mission to go back ASAP 😀. Highly recommend x

From the very point of entering the pepperbox, the warm, friendly and fun environment, encapsulates you… Coupled by the friendly service and wonderful food (can fully recommend the calves liver) this made for a fantastic evening with friends and following the arrival of the bill we felt it was excellent value for money, given the quality of the food and the alcohol consumption. The atmosphere and service really makes this a warm friendly and comfortable place to enjoy a great evening with great friends.

From the moment we entered, we felt welcomed. Open fire, good beer, lovely attentive staff. Food was amazing and a separate selection of vegetables to go with our roast was just perfect! Would highly recommend.

My friends and I had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Pepperbox. We were served for drinks promptly and given good time to choose the mains. Our order was taken and the food arrived quite quickly, even though we were a table of 6, and was piping hot. We all had different roasts, chicken, lamb, beef and pork, all were excellent. We finished off with desserts, creme brule was very popular as was the sticky toffee pudding. All staff were very attentive and we were not rushed at all. Highly recommended.

Very warm and welcoming public house well worth the trip

A year ago I had my first date at this gorgeous pub and on Sunday we celebrated our 1st anniversary here. 3 course Sunday meal was absolutely fantastic!! Mussels and pigeon starters, roast pork and lamb mains followed by a Berry crumble and creme bruleé. Wonderful!! Service was outstanding and the atmosphere is fab in this cozy pub. Don't miss out!

Found this wonderful eatery on Tripadvisor, and wasn’t disappointed. Everything excellent, my 2 friend had the pie, which they said was fabulous. I have a some appetite, so I had a starter for my main course, garlic Tiger prawns, and that was great.

Always a decent traditional pub to visit & food & beer excellent. But please bear in mind its quite a dark pub (traditional beamed building) with steps here and there. Thats not a negative and must be expected in buildings of this nature.

A lovely meal and the pub is lovely and full of character..unusual choice of staff uniform...shame the only bar staff with decent length shorts was the male...

Went with friends who had pre-booked; we were”squeezed in” at 6:00pm! It was almost full shortly thereafter! Nonetheless, the service from friendly young staff was excellent, the menu was interesting and varied and the food was beautifully cooked. Highly recommended!

My wife, stepson and I had an excellent lunch at The Pepper Box. The restaurant was full so we were glad that we had booked a table. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the ambience was very good. My wife and I had the Thai fish curry which was absolutely amazing and thoroughly recommended. Overall we were very impressed and will certainly be going back for more.

I am slightly disappointed with the main course, Thai fish curry, very bland. The smoked fish platter starter, however, was really good. Beers are a bit pricey. Unlikely to go back.
