We have eaten here a few times now with our little dog, staff very friendly, there are obvious signs about the parking with a tablet at the bar to enter your reg number, the pin is displayed next to this. Good range of food quickly served, twice when we came they were recovering from disastrous floods so the menu was slightly limited, the food was still good though. Lovely setting to sit out by the river and regular entertainment at weekends. Keep it up Red Lion!

Staff miserable- not a single smile cracked but could be something to do with the fact there were only two bar staff on when there was an event at the marina. Had to ask for the pin number for the machine to register the car. This should be open and ready for people to enter details. Multiple drinks bought and half of the glasses had lipstick marks on. Also had mismatched glasses for the drink because they were short on glasses! Not visited in a long time but won't rush back!

We were enjoying ourselves outside on a sunny day until the drinks arrived. Lipstick on two glasses 😟 then miserable staff collecting glasses 🥹 oh dear don’t work here then!!! Last time we came here was a positive experience a few years ago 👌outside furniture needs renovating and not up to previous standard. Such a shame as this was once a popular venue in Winsford. To be told that they had run out of wine glasses topped it all as hardly anyone there 😔 then told run out of cider glasses so served in lager glasses 🥹 what is the problem? Management or ???????? Won’t be coming back anytime soon. Get your act together or another pub closing down in Winsford 😳

If you are going to charge for parking when not buying anything, then you MUST make this obvious when parking the car and also inside the pub. This is NOT the case at this pub. I don't object to parking charges for non customers, you MUST make this clear.

My son had travelled all the way from Coventry to spend a few days with me (his dad) we called in to the pub for a quick drink before dinner. At no point did any of the staff make us aware of any parking restrictions or regulations and they knew that we were driving as I told the staff that. When my son got home to Coventry he has received in the post a parking fine for £100 and if he pays it within ten days it will be reduced to £60. We were there for just over an hour. I think this is absolutely disgusting as there are no signs anywhere to warn you about this parking fine, and nor did any of the staff tell us. I definitely won’t be back and I will be reporting this issue to my local council

Stopped off at this pub in winsford prior to going to a show at knights grange. Parked in the pub car park. Had a beer with the family to only receive a parking fine of £60 3 weeks later!!! Didn’t see any signs but didn’t look or expect there to be any at a pub to be fair, and certainly wasn’t told by the staff of a parking fee. Very expensive pint of Guinness. Parking eye is the enforcing company apparently so please be aware

Jeez what can I say. Order the crispy chicken burger. Don't upgrade to the sweet potato chip as the potato chips were perfect on my visit. A big shout out to the Manager Steve and all of the staff at The Red Lion, who saved the day for us at the weekend. Following a freezing morning waiting around Crewe station, in the hope of a visit to Chester Christmas Markets, with my friend who was visiting for the weekend we eventually gave up the ghost and decided to come home and cheer ourselves up with some lunch and a few drinks in the Red Lion. Unfortunately the chef was ill, so no food being served. Although disappointed we could not have been made more welcome and ended up having a really great afternoon. Who needed lunch anway! Thank you to Steve for making us feel so welcome and saving the day, what a great afternoon/evening we had, making sure our day hadn’t been totally ruined. Will definitely be revisiting…..and hopefully tasting something lovely off the menu next time

Always been a great place but since new owners have taken over they feel the need to rip customers off. Staff are lovely and enjoy the place but sadly today was the last time I will be going to this pub after the last couple of visits have been a little off putting. £6.20 for a shandy £5 for a pint . When queried it I was told it’s just the way it is. Arrive for a drink at 7:30 to be kicked out at 9pm as it’s not worth them staying open. Yesterday 13/11/21 I went with the family for lunch. For some reason they don’t have a visible kids menu and haven’t done so for months!Unfortunately the place has lost the key custom. After ordering what we were told was a kidsfish and chips (and looked like it) we discovered that upon receiving the bill it was £11.90 (more than the adults meals).Upon questioned the answer was “the kids are priced the same as the adults menu”.Bring back the OLD Red Lion!

Went again to see if things had improved…. That’ll be a no. The standard of food is shocking. This pub has lost it’s way, they clearly don’t know the local catchment area. Vastly overpriced and the service was even worse. Total shambles, won’t ever go back. Save your money and go elsewhere, even Wetherspoons is a step up. Unfortunately this is not a positive review of our experience at the Red Lion, I've listed the issues and unpleasant encounters our party experienced below:- Before getting the opportunity to order our food we were informed, rudely, by a very stand off-ish member of staff that our meals would have a 20 minute delay as we were late for our reservation (we weren't late, had ordered drinks and nearly finished them by this point)- The menu was not fully available, many items were missing which we were not informed of when we booked, when we arrived nor when we received the menus, it was only when we were informed by another table and then asked the waitress we received a list of what was available- Part of our drinks order was incorrect and horrendously expensive (hint, don't order double measures)- One of the staff members was clearly quite drunk, we noticed this because they were also rude, couldn't talk very clearly or remember what was on each plate and I overheard another member of staff accusing them of being 'smashed'- As we were reviewing the bill the person who I believe is the manager or 1 of at least, shouted (yes, shouted) at us to get our dog out of the room we were in, our dog had been there since we arrived, the manager shouted that it's brand new carpet and the dog could have an accident on it and it would have to be replaced, we tried to explain that our dog had been there the whole time and this was the table we'd been shown, the manager did not care, (I know this because he shouted, I don't care) we'd also gone out of our way to confirm the pub was dog friendly and informed them whilst booking that we would definitely have a dog with us whilst eating.- After this we moved to the bar area to finish our drinks (as dogs are allowed there) in the meantime, 2 of our party explained to the manager how we were very unimpressed by the service and being shouted at was the icing on the cake. They were somewhat apologetic for the experience but persisted to ask us who the staff members were as they would receive 'bollockings the next day' (I found this very unprofessional). - Another point to add was after all of these unpleasant experiences, we were not offered any kind of discount, part refund, or even free drinks (granted, we didn't ask)It's safe to say we won't be returning in a hurry, hopefully the pub develops a more professional and polite attitude towards paying customers over the next few months but for us to return and be willing to pay the inflated prices, the experience would have to be, at least, pleasant. We did experience some positives whilst visiting, the decor and location of the pub, including parking are great and we did have for a very polite and helpful waitress serve us for most of the time.

Overall experience was very average to say the least. When we arrived we were told that they have a limited menu. Which we accepted and ordered from but then the waitress came back to let us know that they only had 1 sirloin steak left so we had to change it, and then they came back again to say that they don't have sirloin anymore but got rib eye which wasn't even on the menu. One of steaks we went for was the t-bone which was really tough and could hardly cut it with a steak knife and was cooked very rare. The steak pie was extremely oily and the meat was very fatty and grisly which was very disappointing. As for the chicken burgers, they were very bland with not much flavour and the chilli jam on the menu was just sweet chilli sauce. The food was very average and don't think we will be returning anytime soon for food. As for the drinks they were good drinks but very expensive. For a double gin and tonic is £10. Overall disappointed.

The pub has been updated to a nice standard,When we arrived for drinks we were told the tables were reserved, but were seated for a short time , there were lots of empty tables while we were there so why ?We did look at the menu and thought it was reasonable for a pub menu. The big down side to this pub is the price of drinks which are way over priced ,£12.90 for double vodka Diet Coke and a pint of beer ,don’t think we will be going very often at these prices

It was a lovely sunny Sunday when we went and thought we could sit outside. All the tables by the river were taken and the front tables were tied up so we couldn’t sit outside on a hot day.Yet drive past on a week day the tables and chairs are out so don’t understand why on a Sunday the tables weren’t out. My wife and I thought we’d wait until the newly refurbished Red Lion had been open a little while before visiting (we used to be regulars) so last Wednesday evening, we went along. The new Decor is stunning and a great first impression, this was the only good bit about our visit!I went outside to get the only available table left, no. 61. There were cigarette dimps EVERYWHERE! Absolutely disgusting! My wife then waited 30 minutes (yes, HALF AN HOUR) to get served & it wasn’t even busy, there were just 3 people waiting before her. She ordered a pint of Inch’s cider (which was ok at best) and a double Gordon’s gin (bog standard gin) and tonic which came to £15.70 and the gin didn’t even have any fruit in it - something even Wetherspoons offer! My wife likes Shiraz red wine, which you didn’t have (seriously!) so she had the G&T instead. I have no problem paying over the odds for a quality experience - we both have good jobs but if you really want to charge these prices, you need Aspall Cider or something premium. Whilst my wife waited an eternity for our drinks, she witnessed the bar staff turn away TWO lots of people who had booked tables, quoting “we’re no longer serving food” Whaaaaat!? To say we were very disappointed is a massive understatement. It certainly wasn’t busy when we came in, the experience we had was absolutely shambolic and amateurish.

We had a lovely meal and drinks in the newly refurbished Red. The ingredients were of a high quality and the prices were good value. The staff are fairly new but very pleasant but will need a few weeks to settle in. My only criticism was my sausage was a little pink for my liking it was cooked but I prefer a more well cooked sausage. Waiting staff should check with customers if the food is ok earlier. We will return in a few more weeks once staff are more experienced and any teething issues are resolved.

I really wanted the "New Red" to be good especially are there are, so few places in Winsford that genuinely welcome families without scraping the barrel hospitality-wise.Unfortunately we found that we can no longer afford to come as a family, the prices have gone through the roof. If this is to pay for the new decorations, it's a shame as all the local artists work has gone and the pub looks like a lot of others that have had the character ripped out alongside the old wallpaper. There's nothing especially wrong with the place, but certainly not anything so good that it's worth paying the prices, higher than anywhere else in town.

Been in here a few times after Covid. There is a really good seating area outside, and it is table service and payment contactless, which is great. Staff are friendly and the type that notice when your glass is nearly empty and you might be wanting a new one, which are the type you want. The only negative I’ve had here is that we had a portion of chips. They were really greasy on the outside and crunchy raw in the middle. I can’t comment on other food, but by the chips we had that day, maybe a try of the food another time. During the Lockdown, the Red Lion have been doing take-away meals for anyone wanting to eat affordably. For three weeks in a row we have had the take-out Sunday lunch delivered to our door for £5.99. We've had the beef Sunday Lunch with mixed veg, potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding - followed by a piece of cake - and every one has been delicious ! It's worth taking 20 minutes to reheat the meal properly in the oven - and prepare/present it properly for the full effect. Definitely worth the money - and something I can easily become a regular fixture until we can go down there again.

We stopped here for lunch. We were one of the first tables in. A promising start - lots of choice and lovely vibe. Ordered 2 roast dinners, a children’s roast and a kid’s mac n cheese. After an hour of waiting we asked where our food was and were told, without apology, that it was being played up now. It took another 15 minutes to come out and was like-warm. Still no apology for the delay. The Mac n cheese tasted like it’d been made with mustard or horseradish, so what is usually my son’s favourite dish was inedible. I was going to swap meals with him, but I couldn’t stomach it either. I ended up sharing my lunch with him. Happy to wait for freshly cooked food, but I can make roast vegetables in less time. And to fail to offer an apology to customers with children who’ve waited over an hour with no apology is really not on.

Visited for the first time with two vegans: it's not easy to find a good vegan restaurant in this area. The menu was full of good pub staples for meat-eaters and vegans alike - pies, sausages, burgers and so on, plus a few interesting and tasty variations. The Sunday Lunch burrito is amazing! The food is cooked to order, so there was a little bit of a wait, but well worth it for the great standard of cooking. Pudding was also excellent - lots of vegan friendly home-baked cakes which were just as good as the dairy-full versions. Interesting range of ales and ciders, an extensive list of teas as well. amazing food, wouldn't say this if generally wasn't true. went veggie over a year and a half ago and been vegan for ten months. All the desserts were vegan incl. cake, crumble, brownie and ice cream n custard etc etc were vegan! i had the curried sweet potato pie special served with gorgeous kale and red cabbage which tasted like it had been cooked in olive oil- sublime. There was a lady who apparently managed the pub- a pretty blonde who was vegan so our kindly waitress told us and that was why so many of the menu options were vegan. they even serve a warm winter solid drizzzled w tahini and a sri lankan stew w coconut n lentil dumplings... i would have tucked into this but there was none left; only con i can say as everythng else was lovely. The pastry on the pie was faultless and the mash w my mums pie was gorgeous n i dont even like mashed potato! The bonfire brownie was v good but not like amazing? still impressive nonetheless but i was looking for a bit more of a wow factor as i was so much in heaven w the first course. we'll definitely be back if we ever come to this area again. credit to them for being so helpful and providing so many rad options. keep it up!! hopfully be back to try their delectable christmas menu of rhubarb spiced crumbled and coconut custard... and a vegan wellington w ALL trimmings incl. a vgan yorkie!- v impressive. :) also there is parking located behind pub. prices so so decent too. eight or nine pounds for a whopping pie w gorgeous veg n onion rings n potato

My husband and I frequent the Red Lion on a Wednesday for the fab open mic. We have eaten here on a few occasions, I can't comment on much of the food as we are veggies but the cheese and onion pie was unreal and reasonably priced. We aren't actually drinkers but they do great coffees and the tea comes in lovely pots with proper cups! Treat yourself to a slice of cake too you won't regret it.

Good food, great value and a friendly quirky vibe, the Red Lion goes straight to the top of our list of local dog friendly pubs. Excellent

Great food but had to wait awhile and even though we asked for loyalty points to go on my card we were not charged the 2 for 1 ?

We're moving to Winsford and have been tailing several places for a new local and this place is winning hands down! We went here for lunch on a Saturday when it was relatively quiet but I gather it gets much busier of an evening with a younger crowd. My wife has already visited here mid week at the end of a dog walk along the numerous paths along the river. Nice that the dog was welcomed!!! Food was great - the chorizo and chicken skewers a big hit - and some niced guest beers on tap. Took my parents who can be a bit old fashioned about their food and there was a good selection for all - not extensive but it kept everyone happy. My daughter loved the fact that there were loads of games on the stairs that you could borrow - great for us too to keep the kids busy at meal times. Staff were fab. There's a loyalty scheme too which we signed up to immediately intending to return here a lot.

Sadly had a funeral to attend but this was where Jo and family used to drink and so very appropriate for us to go here to celebrate his life.

This pub is in a great location and now they finally have a decent priced menu for lunch which makes it much more desirable. Staff always friendly and polite.

I did book the Red Lion on the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor but I found this pub disappointing! It was just like dining in a bar! The food was also disappointing! I had a vegetable curry and found it very watery and weak to taste! The prices were very overpriced for what you received! On a plus the coffee was good!

Decided to spend a Sunday afternoon here & ended up staying into the evening as there was a great atmosphere. Had some good musicians providing entertainment followed by karaoke with people who could sing!

Popped in for lunch after hearing that they did good vegan food and was not disappointed! Had 5 choices of tapas for £15 for the two of us. All home made and delicious. Big choice of teas and quirky decor which we loved. Will definitely be back!

Our third visit, never been disappointed. Lovely quirky pub with relaxed atmosphere and music next to the river. Fish & Chips are probably amongst the best I've ever had, certainly can't remember having better home made chips anywhere else. The home made fish-finger butties are also amazing.

The food is really good here. They also offer a choice of buying 3-5 smaller dishes which was great to share. They have a good choice of gins served in a fish bowl with all the extras like juniper berries.

Nice little pub on the round about. Staff are very friendly all the time. Food is nice enough, I do highly recommend the fish and chips. Great outdoor seating also. Another great thing is the choice of drinks, you don't get a variety quite like The Red Lions in a lot of places!

Four of us had lunch here. Staff great. Food lovely. But 2 sandwich meals, burger meal and a few drinks was in our opinion overpriced at £42.00. It's a great location and I think they need to be more competitive on lunch menu. Also put food on a plate please.

Went here for a nice little coffee. Was served by a youngster called Dylan who dropped it all over the table. What a silly sausage. The cafe itself stunk, the surrounding houses smelled of sewage. The north of puddington smells worse than the south. It's really not worth the pain. Stay well away

My visit was for a lunch with friends. The pub was their local but not one they frequented but it was convenient. My visit was memorable for all the right reasons. I was welcomed at the bar with smiles and I explained that one of the party has allergies. The checking of ingredients was really thorough, the food came and it was hot, freshly cooked and delicious. I appreciated all the effort that went in to ensure me and my party had a great time. Totally worthy of recommendation and return visits.

Stumbled on this cafe during a weekend in Chester. Great coffee and cakes very reasonably priced. Couldn't understand why people were passing it by to go to Costa in the Tesco next door.

Lovely coffee and hot chocolate. Staff very friendly and polite. I always prefer the coffee in Starbucks to Costa coffee just a personal preference.
