Rising Sun in Cheshire West and Chester

Greeted by friendly staff. I asked if they were serving food said yes but didn't offer a menu so I helped myself. We found a seat and food order was taken. Shared piri piri prawns starter actually very very nice and enough for 2 people nice chunk of toasted bread and very chilli hot divine. Mains a basic scampi and chips proper scampi and piri piri chicken kebabs flat breads lovely chips and salad plentiful amount and thoroughly enjoyed. Downside drinks expensive but will be visiting again.

This pub is a place we have frequently used over the last couple of years several times, our go to trusty place to take friends and family, this all came to an abrupt end on Sunday, we took a couple there for the the first time, one of them was celiac of which there was very little choice, she ordered Salmon but didn't wish to have the accompanying salad so asked for chips instead, on arrival of dish, the Salmon wasn’t much bigger than a fish finger and was also greasy and chips seemed tho be just thrown on to the plate……. I myself ordered Manchester Pie off the specials menu, only for the waitress to come back and unapologetically say they didn’t have this item, which was strange as we ate at 5pm and there hardly anyone else in the restaurant part, so not as if they should have sold out, very poor, unlikely to return, sorry to say!!

So disappointed that a once reliable pub/restaurant was not a patch on our last visits. The staff coped as well as they could on a busy night but the food was vastly inferior. We did tell them so, but they explained that they were at the mercy of the brewery. The quality has gone way down but the prices not.

Random stop at The Rising Sun for lunch on Saturday. Friendly staff made us really welcome. Good choice menu - usual pub food then more contemporary choices Asian, Italian etc. Food coming from kitchen looked lovely made it difficult to choose.We chose Steak and Ale pie and Burger. We didn’t wait long, presented well, both meals delicious. If we lived local would definitely be a go to place - maybe we will have a drive out here again.

I came for a meal with some friends in the evening and was greeted by a professional and friendly man who was very accommodating. However, that can’t be said for the rest of the staff that I spoke to. The waiting staff weren’t friendly and didn’t have very good customer service skills. One of them had a face like thunder and an awful attitude most of our meal! I have to say that one of men (I think was senior staff or the manager) particularly needs to learn how to manage in a professional manner and think about how he speaks to customers because his attitude was appalling! When your job is front of house and serving customers you expect someone to be polite, attentive and respectful but I can honestly say this man was far from that. However, I can’t fault the food I received because it was actually very nice! However, the whole service I received was shocking and I will not be going again and I definitely would not recommend to friends.

Had a lovely chilled afternoon spent in the beer garden with a few friends, had a cheeky barbecue sat in the sun with a few drinks! Perfect bank holiday afternoon!

Smokers pub outside, so sat inside on a warm day. Nice inside , apart from wonky table. Both got the chicken supreme. It was a mush of over soft mash, with a seared on one side chicken breast, which was so small, waste of time going there. Need new chef. Pub was ok inside, but went home afterwards for something to eat. Wasted £80. Would not return for food, thinking about wouldn’t return for a beer either, they should have a separate area for smokers.

Popped in here after a walk in nearby Delamere yesterday with a dog, the service was very friendly and quick! And the food was absolutely delicious! Best I've had in a long time, the chip shop loaded fries and the french onion soup were amazing! Reasonably priced for the quality of food, plenty of vegetarian options and super dog friendly, we will be back! Even if it is 45 mins away, it's worth it!

Great beer and a great quiz on a Sunday

I visited this place twice in the past 5 weeks. The beer is great and the overall atmosphere is as well. I am a Texan and knew no one in the place but I felt right at home.

Superb eatery, Staff welcoming & friendly, food was loveley, Atmosphere a comfortable, historic building. Of course its in Tarporley, so pretty and well kept , we had a lovely afternoon out as a Family. I highly recommend The Rising Sun to visit and Eat at, just what you look for in a Country Pub 😋

Long Returning customers Sadly we found that the food wasn't up to much ,To say the least but the serving staff was nice as is the decor . But more negatives ,Like bad smells from the toilets was notably present in the dining, lounge & bar area . Soon detracts you from the nice ambience.

Stopped off here after a long walk to get some well deserved drinks and quick bite to eat. Husband had roast which he said was very good and I had steak pie and chips, which was just ok, the bigger chips were not cooked which was a little disappointing. But all in all ok. The price of the food was reasonable atmosphere well it was in the day so again ok. Clean and tidy pub so worth a stop if you’re passing.

Lamb tacos not as tasty as I thought they would be. Very bland salad on side without any dressing. Would not have this meal again but other options that my friends had were so much better.

Had an early lunch here on 24/04/2024 Great atmosphere in this beautiful pub, with great character and charm. Staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was very reasonably priced and delicious. Would certainly go again.

Traditional pub grub with a good selection, however portion of my salad was small (chicken chilli) as a main and I don’t eat much. Prices inline with most others in the area Food seemed freshly cooked & hot. Pub was quiet Tuesday night & as a middle aged party of 5 we were placed next to a rowdy party so couldn’t hear either the staff or ourselves. Pub clean tidy and welcoming though. Thought deserts were expensive and disappointing @ 7.50 for churros with squirty cream snd 1 scoop of ice cream.

A pre-booked family meal on a busy Friday but nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were attentive throughout the evening and catered for various dietary requirements

Had a whale of a time with a group of friends, food service was quick and the hostess Stella was a gem. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. P.S. Get the Unicorn Pie 😋

What an enjoyable night! Thank you to our hosts Will Demi and Stella for a great time. The chef's food was very well presented and delicious! Service was fast and never felt rushed. Able to have a nice laugh with all of the hosts and the atmosphere of the place was very homely.

Extremely dog-friendly pub with extremely friendly staff and locals. Our pooch was offered a huge water bowl, many biscuity treats and tons of fuss. It makes a difference when you enter a pub and dogs are allowed in every area with no restrictions. The bonus was that the food was top notch! Due to it being December when we visited, you did have to pre-order prior to arrival as to whether you wanted to order from their Christmas menu or their usual menu. A fairly full pub meant that we did have to wait 30 minutes for our starters but 15% was deducted from the final bill because of this and the cosy surroundings meant that we were comfortable waiting.

It's a good pub that is nearly always very busy. The bar area can get packed. The outdoor tables are great (with heaters). The food, drink and service is very good also.

Lovely pub to have stumbled across, music a little too loud in certain positions- could be more balance in the output, bar staff although attentive when they notice you waiting were too busy tidying, although not a bad problem to have, was just a little annoying.

We visited for a 3pm lunch on a very quiet monday. We ordered and the meal took ages to arrive. 2 of the party had gammon and the gammon i had was so gristly and totally inedible. The veg was cabbage and peas!! which was cold. When our plates were taken away the gammon was mentioned and nothing was said other than, oh ok sorry. I then asked what the feedback was from the chef and was told it would all be reported back.................I then asked what benefit this would be to me with a sub standard meal and finally i was refunded 2.95 from my bill as a good will gesture. Not good and we will not be returning.

Fabulous meal. Last minute booking meeting up with family. Lovely food. Only had main course. Luckily for me ,I am not a desert person as desert menu wasn't very varied and I think at £7-50 is too expensive. A couple of our party did want a sweet but not enough variety. All in all food was delicious, service good and lovely ambience. Would I go again ? YES,YES YES. :)

Met friends for a Sunday afternoon meal, good parking at the rear and food was excellent. Probably worth booking as it was quite busy.

We went with the family 9 in total. I normally not one to complain and we decided not to complain while we were there as we all decided just not to go again. Unfortunately we have gluten free , dairy free and vegetarian people in our table. There was not much choice to start with and also asking for a simple coffee no milk alternative was not available, even though there is a CoOp opposite. I nearly went and bought alternative milk for them to use. The pub was quiet and we waited a while for our meals. They were aired meals and poor quality even the Sunday roasts which have no dietary requirements. The waitress was apologetic and doing her best. The first and the last meal we have in there.

When everyone else closes the doors, here is still open to having good times.

Ignored by both serving members of staff for 25 minutes, after we asked to order food and drinks TWICE then another couple came in and were served straight away WTF!. The same waiter then said he would take our order and then disappeared. The restaurant was not busy and we became the ‘entertainment’ for the other diners. We are local to the village and use the pub at least once a week for food. Not anymore

Had to make reservation by phone as ‘on line’ didn’t work and wanted 7.30. Asked if we would be there before that as last orders were 7.30 as kitchen closed at 8pm We were under the impression that they really wanted us in and out as soon as possible! Everything was so hurried. At 755 I went to order a dessert for my granddaughter and was told the kitchen was already closed and chef had gone home. Unbelievable and a real disaster Food was average. Fish and chips very ‘greasy’ As we were so disappointed we went to The Swan Hotel two minutes walk and all had delicious desserts and more wine and no desire to get rid of us Guess who we will support next time?

We both had Sunday roast with which we were extremely disappointed. The beef, itself, was both fatty and tough to cut. There was not enough veg even to forge any kind of judgement but the limited veg we did have was hard The service was slow and certain members of the clientele were both loud and foul-mouthed. Suffice to say we will NOT be returning any time soon to The Rising Sun.

Sat outside, quite a nice day, dog friendly but outside dog bowls were quite dirty, we took our own so not a problem and bits of broken glass under the tables, need to be more spot on if wanting 4 legged friends to be safe

Having not visiting the rising sun in quite a few years, I was stunned by the renovations that have taken place.. It's not the same cozy old local, that I remembered. But it's now very smart and modern, clean and welcoming.. The food was tasty and well presented. Staff were attentive, and made sure we had all we needed.

Lovely looking little pub. Food let it down majorly. Lacked a decent variety of vegetarian options, so I ended up ordering the mushroom loaded fries. Which was awful.

There is a mock steam engine on the rear patio used for smoking bbq meats. Food and drinks are 1st rate

Great atmosphere and good staff. Popped in for a bottle of wine and stayed for two! Very good wine list. Have to say the portion of fries we had were the best tasting we’ve ever had. We will come back and try other menu items. Parking at the rear and wheel chair accessible.

Very popular locals pub with a good selection of food. Can get a bit noisy, but never rowdy. Perfect pint of Robinsons and pleasant attentive staff.

Good pub for a drink. Unfortunately a strong smell of toilets spoilt the experience. The toilets, boys and girls, both were the origin of the smell. Sorry guys you need to be more thorough with your cleaning regime.

We have been coming the past few weeks for the quiz on a Sunday night however the past 2 weeks have been a let down as there have been 2 other teams that are constantly loud and abrupt whilst the questions are being asked which means you can’t hear them, it also never starts on time, when asked before hand they said it starts at 8pm but then when we got there the first time they said 8:30pm but it actually starts at around 8:45 but some Sundays it has been later not good for people who work early on Mondays, even starting at 8 would be better for most. Also the service isn’t great, they turn off the coffee machine before the quiz starts even though the quiz lasts well over 2 hours, could understand if they switched it off an hour before the quiz finishes or something. Not tried the food but would do if they served it later that 6pm on a Sunday. Only good things I can say the guy who does the quiz is friendly and gets through the questions quite quickly.

Our experience at The Rising Sun was great ! We really enjoyed the pulled pork nachos and the burger. Initially, we chose to sit outside,however before long, a sudden downpour surprised us. Although we were protected by the shelter, the attentive staff consistently checked on us, expressing concern that our toes might soon get wet! They kindly suggested that we consider relocating. We didn't mind the rain too much; in fact, we found it quite soothing to listen to. However, as the water began seeping onto the floor, we realized it was time to make a move. Without us even having to request it, the staff promptly came to our aid and went above and beyond to accommodate us, despite the bustling atmosphere inside. Their kindness was truly heartwarming as they swiftly found us a table, ensuring our comfort and well-being. Their quick action and genuine care made us feel valued and taken care of throughout the entire experience. We left the restaurant with a warm sense of gratitude and a memorable dining experience.

Great food. Don’t be put off by previous review. I had the Chicken and Mushroom stroganoff and thought it was delicious. Plates were warm too. Good place to eat for families and a great town with excellent shops, fantastic Turkish Barbers, and other eateries. Free and easy accessible parking too 😁 I will be visiting Tarporley again without a doubt.

We went for a walk in Tarporley but booked a table the night before. We rang from our walk as it took longer than expected. They were so accommodating and took our order in advance, so they could have it ready for when we arrived. Welcoming, friendly staff and a gorgeous Sunday roast. My chicken was beautiful and my brother said the beef was lovely.

Brilliant meal in lovely beer garden in the sunshine. Steak and chips, steak pie and chicken all lovely and daughter has a chocolate brownie which she said was delicious. Top beer garden in summer

Very poor value. Ordered a jacket potato that arrived lost on the plate with a sprinkling of greens - and that cost us £7 - will not return.
