Staying with friends nearby, visited this quintessential British country village pub on their recommendation and was not disappointed having visited this pub on earlier occasions over the years. On a weeknight, it was not super busy - we were there for drinks, enjoying the local cider brews and a few cocktails - excellent service from the local staff & soon got chatting to the other patrons. A really enjoyable night out.

Thought go to Red Lion went a couple of times last summer and food and service was excellent ,so decided to go back today, well what a change !. Terrible had 2 scampi and chips with peas asked if they had french fries, we were told yes never got them,? hence Grandaughter wouldn't eat them, neither did any of us due to not liking chunky chips, the scampi was undercooked, peas were just warm bullets, my daughter asked for burger and fries and was served a salad, which we returned The burger and chips turned up after we had finished our meal , It did looked very nice, untill she bit into it . It was dripping in fat, the salad was greasy with fat, " overall " the food was discusting , The blond haired waitress never once smiled , bit offish, Then on top of the bill they charged a service charge, which I never noticed untill I got home And expensive ,,! Steer clear terrible service and food., I can honestly say this was the worst food I have ever had in a pub or restaurant.. in 50 years

We descended upon the Red Lion for a wonderful afternoon seated on the outside terrace in the sunshine. We enjoyed delicious meals for a family of 4 accompanied by mouth-watering cocktails! (Highly recommend the Bloody Mary to start!) Chicken Caesar salad with bacon - very generous portion including an entire grilled chicken breast! Chicken and charred pepper skewers with Mediterranean cous cous & tomato salsa with an extra side of halloumi - super fresh ingredients and great flavour. 2 x pork belly roasts. My father in law said it’s the best pork belly he’s ever had!! We chased the sun and retired to the front garden for a lovely bottle of Rosé! Thank you to all the staff for superb food, drinks and service.

The food was nice. Allowed us to book a table for 5pm on a Sunday at the same time as the kitchen closes. We was forced to ring our other guests for the choice of food as they were closing the kitchen. WHY allow us to book a table at closing time?

Popped into this pub on the off chance after visiting a friend, very welcoming bar staff, I did not order any food but what I saw cone out from the kitchen looked really good! 4 nice ales on tap, 1 is a guest ale that is rotated regularly, they are kept well, nice selection of lager that is different to most pubs, good selection of spirits and wines. Nice spacing between tables, plenty of room for prams or wheelchairs. Toilets are immaculate and they also have a disabled toilet. Also, wheelchair accessibility is good for the whole pub, no stairs and flat entrance. Nice car park outside next to the pub, they have a terrace area and live music. I definitely missed out on coming on a Monday as they do pie, mash and liquor night. Would definitely recommend and I am so looking forward to coming back, especially for thr Monday night special

What a fabulous evening , this was our third time celebrating Burns night at the Red Lyon . The food was delicious , and service was superb as usual . The piper was amazing and the address to the haggis just great to take part in the traditions of Robbie burns. The event was for Parkinson’s charity sport and the raffle raised £700… how wonderful. Well done to all the staff at the Red Lyon .

This is the third burns night we’ve been to and the only disappointment is the fact that it isn’t burns night every week! The quality of the food was fantastic and the best haggis I’ve ever had! 4 courses and whiskey was a great effort on the night,The entrainment was hilarious and to have the bag pipes play is a real treat you don’t get everyday! The staff were extremely helpful and made sure we had a great time, they succeeded, we had the best time and I love this pub! Slàinte Mhath!

Burns night service slow with the drinks Food served warm not hot. The haggis was extremely bland. No taste and the mashed vegetables the same and very watery. I made a discreet complaint to the manger in the corridor beside the kitchen and the reply was rude and not all understanding. I said the food last year was good but this year my table, found it poor quality and taste. I enjoyed the pipes and the readings. Other than the aforementioned which I gave a star for each. I would not recommend such an event at this venue.

Wonderful night out at a beautiful pub. Went for a Gary Barlow night with a 3 course Christmas special dinner. Staff were great, all the girls serving the tables were lovely, chatty and clearly knew their stuff. Food was great, no complaints at all, appearance and taste spot on. 😋 couple of pints of Guinness and one of 'Rockin Robin' (because its that time of year) all really nice and satisfying. Now our Gaz was just totally on point. All the hits sung with passion and the seasoned experience of a guy that's been doing this well, for some time! My only advice would be, if you want dinner when an act is on at the pub (which is quite frequent thankfully) then ask for a table that allows you to see the act as some tables are around corners. Otherwise, you'll have a swell time at this place. Will be back for sure.

We booked a table for 4 for Sunday Lunch we were seated at a table and were given menus but nobody came over to take our order for 15 minutes. I had to go to the bar and order ours drinks because of this. Once we put in our order we waited over a hour for our meals, I had to ask where they was. After we finished our main meal we ordered one desert and again waited over 40 minutes (for one desert!) come on. I asked when it was coming and they girl said they have 3 more orders to cook then they will do it. How ridiculous that they couldn't push it above the other orders and serve it, obviously they only have one chef, they should have someone else preparing deserts. The blonde woman serving was very miserable and never smiled once there doesn't seem to be a proper manager/landlord running this pub. We recommend you never book here for Sunday lunch unless you are planning to stay all afternoon. Nice pub but dreadful service and under staffed. Food 2/10 Staff friendliness -1/10. Service 1/10.

A large family meal spoilt by a very rude, dismissive and abrupt member of staff. This senior member of staff spoilt our celebration of a great grandmother's 90th birthday. We spent a lot of money but will never go again. This should have been a special occasion. However this lady was unwelcoming and made us feel like an inconvenience. I am sorry we chose to go there.

Meal was spoilt by rudeness of staff member who we believe to be the manager. Looking at other reviews, this seems to have been the experience of other patrons. She stated that our booking hadn't been confirmed, despite several phone calls and an in person visit. She expected us to sit on seperate tables and got stroppy when we asked to have one table. She also got cross when we queried missing drink. The bill was over £400. We emailed several times to complain and was promised a response but nothing yet received.

The location boasts many pubs / pub restaurants I have visited many living locally . This rates as one of the best . Interior is nice retains some old school pub charm , many don’t . Service excellent , good selection of pub food all very tasty . All my guests happy . My one suggestion, needs a bigger car park given the land at the back occupied by a couple of tables extend back into that save a few bangs and scrapes . Hope that’s helpful.

I have mixed feelings about my experience here. I think this could be outstanding. Great venue, great vibe. Helpful staff choosing a wine, good selection of beer. Walked in via the back as we parked in the car park. Bar staff welcoming and friendly. Ordered a drink and decided to sit outside. The front was clean and tidy but on a main road so busy and noisy. (Not unpleasant at all) decided to head to the secret garden at the back. It was lovely but a bit windy, I imagine it would be stunning on a still day. We hadn’t booked a table but when getting our drinks we were told a table could be available when required. When we were ready we came in and were directed to our table. A round table near the door. The pub was busy but not full. There were other tables that probably would have been a better choice. Our orders were taken (menu has wine matches with the meals) I ordered the roast loin of pork with crackling. He ordered roast sirloin of beef. All roasts come with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, broccolini, greens, roasted roots (we had parsnip and carrot) and lashings of gravy. We waited quite awhile for our meals to come. At one stage one of the staff came to ask if we were waiting for food. Plates served, there was definitely lashings of gravy but I had to hunt for the crackling. It was a good meal, good serving. If I had to be picky I’d say the pork was a bit dry but it was smothered in gravy so I didn’t mind. Be nice to see the gravy served in a jug so you can add your own. No one came during the meal to check if it was ok or if we wanted more drinks. Bloody Mary needs a little bit of work but ok. Disappointed to be charged 10% service charge on the bill. I don’t mind paying for service but didn’t feel that the service warranted the charge. Overall I enjoyed my meal, I would go back.

Booking the venue was great organised and professional. Drink and food was ordered and delivered in a timely manner, the menue that was available on a Saturday was light bites sandwiches and jacket potatoes the selection was good. An addition specials board offered good choices of typical pub food. Our party were all pleased with the presentation and taste of our food, The puddings were great and generouse. Service was attentive and very friendly. Their Beef Lasagne was taste and very well made , try it. Prices from what we had the bill average out at £20 for a main and pudding. In these times good value IMHO. We will be back, Thank you to all at your venue.

We have enjoyed lunch here previously but I’m afraid, today’s visit wasn’t as good. Firstly, on arrival we were informed that no omelettes or sea bass were available. Surely eggs aren’t a difficult thing to source. This limited our choices as non meat eaters. The soup was delicious. A cauliflower starter was equally as good but served lukewarm. My partner and I are regulars at the Red Lion as we cannot fault the staff, food, atmosphere & cleanliness.- Staff: always attentive, professional and friendly. On a recent visit Tom was incredibly efficient. I witnessed some new locals arrive (unsure of the social distancing etiquette) and before they could even sit down he had welcomed them and offered them his services. The couple were pleasantly surprised and stated “now that’s what you call proper table service” - Food: favourite is the chicken or lamb burger & the sweet potato fries!! The quiche of the day is also delicious and comes with a fresh side salad. My partner loves the traditional pie and mash night (not something you expect in a Surrey pub, a real treat)- Atmosphere: given the “new normal” we were unsure what the atmosphere would be like after lockdown. We shouldn’t have worried - still as friendly and fun as ever with all of the social distancing rules in place! Great to see the very well deserved support from locals - Cleanliness: Red Lion has always been a clean pub and the toilets are impeccable, so this comes as no surprise. However, I cannot commend the staff enough with the recent laws. The tables are cleaned thoroughly with a steamer and anti bac products. The anti bac dispensers are the best ones I’ve seen - they release a refreshing spray (not a messy handful of sticky gloop!) smell nice and do not dry your hands! A HUGE Thank you to all of the staff for investing your time & efforts in order to allow your clientele to feel at ease during these strange times.

A brilliant curry is available on a Tuesday night and it’s great value for money. The staff are amazingly friendly and their service is second to none.

We have used the Red Lion for very many years. The food is always good. Sunday lunch is the best around. My husband loves the traditional Pie and Mash regularly available on Mondays. The varied menu offers something to suit all tastes and never disappoints. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is brilliant and provides a relaxing enjoyable experience. Prices are reasonable. We would recommend visiting this pub restaurant soon.

We've been visiting the Red Lion for years and always been impressed by the quality of the food. Our last two visits have seen a marked deterioration in this respect. Today the quiche had clearly been warmed in a microwave. The pastry was soggy and the egg filling not cooked through. I sent it back and was told this was how it always came out. I suggested they needed to cook it in the oven.I was offered something else. I opted for a blt sandwich. The bread was the cheapest type of white sliced loaf with horrid crusts and spongy interior, spread with cheap margarine. Inside was dry, salty bacon, limp tomato and the outside leaves of a lettuce well past its best. I ate a bit of the bacon and left the rest. My other half had liver and bacon. The bacon was the same tough stuff as used in the blt ; the liver wasn't tasty ; the mash was watery ; the veg dreary and the gravy had a really thin consistency. In the past, liver and bacon was one of the pub's best dishes. We asked if they'd got a different cook in, but were told 'no'. We feel whoever is in charge has really taken their eye off the ball and we left feeling we probably wouldn't return. In fact, if we'd read reviews from the last few months we might not have gone in the first place. If you add to all this that prices have gone up, I really don't see how they can compete with other places where the food is cheaper and tastier. What a shame.

We have been using the pub fairly regularly over the last year or so. The pub is a good size but has a cosy atmosphere with a nice layout out. The food has always been very good and the staff frendly and welcoming every time we visit. As a real ales drinker I have to add the beer is always on point!!

Popped in for lunch as we were in the area. Very pleased they had pie and mash and liquor on the menu. Very authentic especially with the chilli vinegar which is a must.Speedy service and helpful waiting staff. We will be happy to come back another time.

For the hefty price of £80pp it would have been nice to have been greeted with a glass of fizz. Once our initial drinks orders were taken, the staff did not check on us again throughout our meal to see if we needed any top ups. Although food on the whole good, we waited 3/4 hour for starter and there was a long wait too for the main course. Staff pleasant but clearly run off their feet. However, most disappointing was when staff brought out boxes and started packing away table decorations from tables behind us whilst we were eating our main course and other staff sitting on neighbouring table drying and sorting cutlery. A shame as have always liked this pub and have been pleased with the food.

We Visited the red lion pub which we have done on numerous occasions. Food was very average but my meal in was unedible. I ordered Katsu curry with coconut rice and pickled red onion. Chicken burnt, plain rice was out of a microwave no coconut in sight and no red onion, so nothing like the meal I ordered. All meals in general were very average and when we made the original order there was no pie, no sausages, no hake available we were however not told about this prior to ordering . I think perhaps they did not have staff capable of cooking this food just microwaveable food was available. We were not asked if we wanted any additional drinks everything had to be prompted. Staff seemed bored and uninterested and really didnt care whether we had an enjoyable experience at all. It is a real shame as have had some great times here. Perhaps change of staff, chef, microwave leader, have been changed but will not be visiting again.

This pub has it all, great food, brilliant staff and great live acts. Not much more I can say other than try an Elvis tribute night.

Food was fine, but service terrible. We had to wave to get served. Staff seemed disinterested. Dessert menus were on tatty bits of paper.

Have been here a few times this year and had good food and service but tonight....everything was awful. Service was very poor....had to keep waving/calling to the waitress who seemed to be almost ignoring us on purpose. When we eventually got served the waitress was disengaged and couldn’t really be bothered to serve us. When the food eventually arrived, all of our meals were lukewarm and the vegetables were soggy and tasteless. We had dessert but again had to ask and wait for menu and then again to place our order. When we asked for the bill that never arrived so we had to ask again. We complained about the service and the food quality and told them how disappointed we were but all we got was a vague and very insincere “sorry but thank you for your feedback”. We will not be going back.

We visited today after a number of months and found the food to be of excellent quality and served nice and hot. All four of us were very pleased with our food. The place has a nice friendly atmosphere, everywhere is nicely furnished and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We hope to visit again soon.

We have been enthusiastic regulars at the Lion for years and because of this we are also regular visitors to the newer sister establishment The Woodman. This is the first time we felt like walking out. Service was awful - 45 minutes between starter and main course - even though the pub was almost empty. Several apparently (kitchen) staff members having a very noisy beer and a chat at the table next to the kitchen entrance, which was quite off-putting. Wife's burger was rock hard, burnt and just about inedible. She actually had to dash to the bathroom and was physically sick. The young barmaid was very sympathetic and deducted the price of the burger from the bill. Come on folks. The Lion has set the standard in the area for years and to have such a bad exxperience is out of character and frankly upsetting as we love the place. We will not be back anytime soon though.

Third visit ,friends keep saying give them a second then third chance. Frozen food just warmed up, repeat warm ,not hot. Also poor quality, left entire meal once ,they didn't charge. This admits they agree, but offered a new meal,NO THANKS

Always good to visit the Red Lion! I took five friends there yesterday who had never been before. All agreed the food, service and venue were excellent and were keen to book another reunion at the Red Lion. Just trying to find a date before I book again. In any case I will be back very soon as this is becoming one of my favourite pubs to meet in and the food etc is always first class

Returned to this lovely garden centre and was warmly welcomed into the restaurant,it was early lunchtime but there was a good buzz of others enjoying their food. There is a seasonal menu and wanting a fairly light lunch we opted for the mezze platter to share. The service is first class our waitress very friendly,we ordered a beer and glass of red wine to accompany the dish. The drinks and food arrived speedily and it was delicious, colourful, and beautifully presented. Our waitress returned to check everything was ok which of course it was.We had coffee afterwards then left.We were acknowledged by all the staff working there who cheerfully said Goodbye. This is a venue not to be missed,I noticed the lunch menu, they also do breakfast and whilst there at the weekend they were serving a beautiful afternoon tea to a group of ladies…I look forward to a return visit soon…Yours Stuart…

Fabulous Sunday lunch for a family special ocasion. beautiful food, so well looked after by the manager Abdul who couldn't do enough for us even though they had a huge private event going on. Stunning views, incredible service from all waiting staff who looked after my 11 year old son and pampered him. Highly recommend.

Have always enjoyed eating at the Barley Mow and did enjoy my salad this evening, but was a little surprised with the cost. £14 for the basic super food salad and I paid £5 on top for prawns, of which there were only about 6. I also went on to have a yummy pudding, but to the cost of £8.50. I know with the cost of living everything has increased but come on Barley Mow £22 for a prawn salad ?
