The Red Kite in Wakefield

Came for a meal with my partner and was sat in the restaurant area. Cath was our server for the night and she was amazing. Very friendly and chatty and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Food was delicious and will definitely be returning! Lovely friendly atmosphere

Atmosphere great, server very friendly and most helpful. Unfortunately my food was luke warm, when I asked that this time,could my food be hot, it arrived again hardly warm. If they can not serve food warm when asked, then not worth patronising.

We had dinner here this evening following a spur of the moment decision. Although we have dined here numerous times over the years whilst visiting family in the area the service tonight was exceptional. Our server was Caitlyn and what an asset to the business ! Her welcome, professionalism, charisma and personality was an absolute joy to experience. I have dined all over the world and have worked in a senior position within the hospitality and travel sector for almost 40 years and I can honestly say it is rare to come across someone as natural as Caitlyn in delivering such effortless quality customer service. Thank you for making our experience First Class !

Excellent service and good food. The staff are great here. We had a little bit of a noisy table near us and asked if we could move. Straight away they sorted another table. As it happens the table were leaving but they moved us anyway. Food was fantastic too!! Really good experience as always. ☺️

Eat at The Red Kite on the 3rd and 4th October 2024. The menu was different from the average pub, a nice surprise. The ambience in the pub was standout - lots of customers enjoying their time in a comfortable environment. The bar staff were very friendly and welcoming, including arranging a table for me through Charlotte. Talking of Charlotte, she, Caitlin and, Louise, were all brilliant in providing prompt and attentive service, without being intrusive. They all demonstrated true, and, honest customer service! They are a credit to the business. Both meals I had were very good, the chicken screwers just edging the win over the burger. One slight disappointment, the Black Sheep, and, Doombar had run out on the second evening. A suggested alternative went a long way to ensure a good night, so all was well. A mention for Martin, who managed to find me a table on what was a special charity quiz night, which was great fun, and obviously enjoyed by all those taking part. Be you local, or, a visitor like me, you'd well to pop in to The Red Kite; highly recommended!!! Sincere thanks to all concerned.

Despite a few gluten free hiccups (resolved before eating) the food was great, the gentleman resolving the issue was polite and extremely helpful (above and beyond). I rarely eat out but I'd definitely go again.

Nice little pub, was confused when I pulled up as thought I was going to the hotel. Front entrance not obvious and had to walk all the way round from back to front to enter, nice little cosy quirky pub. Starter of mushrooms on bruschetta was fine and delicious but the main of the sea bass was cooked a bit dry with veg underneath with the sauce. I would have preferred the veg on the side with sauce over everything. Prices are mid range for a pub and dogs are welcome. This pub is more aimed at the quiet dog walkers of the area but the staff were very helpful, bit of a hike to the toilets upstairs though when you have had a few. Location is a bit out of the way from Wakefield city centre. The labrador at the entrance was a lovely chilled out dog.

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience and will not be returning.

First time visiting.. Lovely pub inside and out!.. Very friendly relaxed atmosphere, Staff are helpful and nothing seems like too much trouble.. Food is excellent quality!.. I only gave 4 stars as I thought £83 for 2 meals with one drink each that weren't even alcoholic was a bit pricey!.. Don't get me wrong the quality of everything was 100% and I don't mind paying for said quality either.. But it is still a bit pricey for portion size

This is our first visit to the Red Kite but definitely won’t be the last! Veronica was extremely friendly & helpful with our orders & the service was exemplary. Nothing was too mouth trouble. Thank you for a wonderful experience

Sarah was a good waitress and her personality showed. Food was very nice.....took a while for our order to be taken but as it was busy, not too much of an issue.

Good food and beer, large restaurant area but the bar is not as big so finding a seat/table can be tricky at busy times. There’s a large outdoor garden area, but because of the surrounding roadside shrubbery providing cover and the fast food outlets nearby, there's a rat problem. Not the pubs fault, as it’s not their shrubbery, but it’s not great when you’re eating outside to see rats occasionally come out scavenging.

Lovely family Sunday lunch, very attentive wait staff, nothing was too much trouble, went as a duo of families with 3 children and 4 adults, plenty of space for the kids and a good selection on the kids menu

Was here 4 months ago and left a review of 5 ☆ . We booked over the phone to reserve a table but on arrival at the pub no idea of the reservation. No problem soon seated and ordered our food , i believe it was 40% off mains this visit so the pub was busy but they delivered a stonking meal and dessert, Steak ( fillet) cooked to order and starters came promptly. Chicken liver pate is a meal in itself , i sit here bloated writing this . Server was friendly and helpful ( sorry didnt get her name) and professional. Big up the chefs and the floor staff . Well done all .

Just called in for a pint. It wasn't great to be honest, but the pub was really nice.

Never visited the Red Kite Before - gentleman at the bar was very polite and led me to a table really quickly. Emily was my server who was so lovely and exceptionally polite, explained that o should order at the bar but not to worry as she would take my order. Really helpful talking through the menu and I had the best pie (beef & merlot) I have ever had. Don’t have to wait which is always good when you are eating solo

Unfortunately, our visit was not very good. Upon arrival, I ordered a pint of Estrella, but it was the bottom of the barrel, so only half a pint was poured. The girl then changed the barrel and continued pouring the pint. I requested a new pint, as I didn’t want the dregs of an empty barrel in my drink, and I was met with a scowl. My partner and I were out for a Sunday dinner. We ordered our food at half past two, but it took just shy of an hour to be served. I wouldn’t have minded the wait, but about 20 minutes after we ordered, a family of five arrived and received their food before we did. On top of that, when our food finally arrived, one plate was missing the parsnips, and the crackling tasted like it had been microwaved—it was as hard as charcoal and tasted burnt. The only saving grace was the manager offering a full refund for the food, but it still put a damper on our evening.

Came for lunch today with my dad ,had a lovely lunch, was going to have the steak sandwich bit was sold out so Liam recommended the hot roast beef sandwich with triple cooked chips and onions and horseradish can definitely recommend, also Liam recommended honey 🍯 pot pudding, delicious and you can eat it all even the flowers, great friendly staff ,Andria always really friendly and helpful, great atmosphere, lovely and clean ,will definitely be back again soon ,thanks to the Red kite and your lovely team x

Dealt with my strange request with no problem and the steak was outstanding

Five of us went for a late Sunday lunch. Service was spot on - really lovely, helpful waiting staff, but oh dear, what a disappointment with the food. My friend's roast beef dinner was dire. Two small, thin slices of beef, the size of a credit card, absolutely not worth the £20 a plate. He pointed this out and was brought one extra solitary thin slice of beef. We were told the pie of the day was beef and red wine. It arrived and was chicken and mushroom! My friend didn't complain as she realised that if she ordered another it would have be to cooked and she'd be eating later than us. The veg on all the plates were not hot - only warm at best and the roast potatoes had obviously been sat under the lamps for far too long as the skin was so tough it was hard to cut them with a knife. Most of us left our veg. The cabbage was watery and cold, and it really just felt like we were being given what was left in the kitchen at the end of service. So completely disappointing for a pub we all regularly frequent at lunchtimes with our dogs and have wonderful sandwiches. We won't go again on a Sunday.

Great friendly reception and patient with our delay in ordering.... too busy catching up to check menus! Service excellent and good advice re dishes. Food was excellent quality and well presented. Mini dessert and hot drink is good value. Good service from Liam, Louise and Cath.

Took nearly an hour to take our order. The food was very good and service, once served, was pretty good. A lovely place worth visiting but the service needs improving.

Called for dinner after shopping, was pleasantly surprised. We had 3 bar snacks for starters whilst decided what our mains were going to be, they were delicious. Then we had our dinner , portion size was just right perfectly cooked belly pork and veg with a beautiful red wine jus. Delicious!

Let's start with the good points - Nice pub, friendly and efficient staff Bad points - food expensive, not great quality either. We had Sunday dinner, but was only warm at best and not very good. Certainly not worth the £20+ for a beef dinner. We wondered why it wasn't very busy for a Sunday. Wouldn't recommend.

Booking via the app is really easy. Our waitress Cath was very friendly and helpful. The food is lovely. I have never had a bad meal. Definitely worth a visit.

I had fish and chips with mushy peas. Peas were cold rest of the food was ok basic pub grub to be fair. Price with a pint of larger around £25 a steep I though for average food

Didnt eat but had a couple of drinks and sat outside as it was a nice day, it was fairly quiet. There were a few people eating but we changed our mind and decided not to.

Met up with pals from Wetherby for lunch for the wife's birthday. Nice food with a trad beer on enjoyed will go again.

Busy on arrival but seated with a smile. Claire explained meals would be roughly 30mins as busy, appreciate her honesty. Food was ok, nothing to rave home about. Claire was helpful and very smiley despite restaurant being very warm and busy.

Had the bacon chop which came with triple cooked chips & peas, the peas was hard & the chips was more like quadruple cooked,awful!! I told the waitress & she did apologize but I sent my plate back with nearly all the peas & chips I was starving as well, lucky we won't need to use again as not local & was staying at Premier Inn

Dog friendly with bowls and treats at the door. I went for the 2 courses offer,, garlic mushrooms to start and fishcakes for main. Both were really nice. My husband wasn't that hungry so just had the lamb kofta which was a lovely snack, reallygood portion size. Staff were really welcoming

Staff were friendly and helpful, but the constant questioning "was everything ok" became quite intrusive. Lack of GF main options We had planned a second drink in the outside area but left abruptly due to the presence of a large rat

This spot is great for meeting up with family and friends fir a meal. It's an ideal location for us as half of us live in the west and half in the east of the country. It's not the first time we've used thus pub , the food is lovely, but it's the staff that make it special. Cath was one of our servers today and she was so nice making us feel welcome. 3 had the fish and chips , I had the lamb skewers.
