The Red House in St Edmundsbury

We Stopped for a bite and pint while doing the St Edmunds way walk to Lavenham. It’s a real Jem . Very clean and smart with a proper pub atmosphere. Food and drinks were perfect, all served by friendly and cheerful lady. Highly recommended.

Fabulous pub with a very warm welcome and a fine selection of ales and pilsners. We stopped off for a quick pint and light snack. The sandwiches were so fresh, and the chips were heavenly. We’ll definitely be back!

A great place to pop into & sample a great glass of Beer, great friendly atmosphere & apparently you can even get Shear & Beer, Haircut & a Pint for only £13.50, now that's a terrific Pub who's going that extra mile to cater for there Punters 🍻👍

Made so welcome, lovely warm atmosphere. Efficient service and could not fault the food. Would recommend to anyone looking for a traditional pub meal as something for everyone.

Lovely village pub, with fantastic food! They also do a great veggie menu, veggie tart & chips for £6!! I had the homemade steak pie, which was probably the best pie I've ever had out - really good quality beef! We found the pub via the app 'Pub Walks', and there is a lovely walk from the pub itself. Small car park but plenty of parking options on the road outside. The service was fantastic! 10/10 would recommend!

Lovely friendly welcome. Nice seats outside but it was chilly so we went in. Nice vibe. Conversations you can join in, and that. Beer was well kept. Scampi fries: best from the past!

Lovely hidden gem which actually opened on a Monday. Perfect covid safety measures in place and ample distanced tables and plenty of tables inside and outside. Very friendly staff. Thank you for my great pint! X

A lovely village pub. I had a pint of Guinness and for lunch had the pork sausages an mash with other veg. The portion was very good as were the sausages. I was going to have the chicken and bacon pie that looked great too but this ran out. My lunch was £8 which I think was brilliant value. The food was good hearty English fare and the amount you got for your money was excellent. As was the friendly service from all the staff. I will return.

Friendly, welcoming country pub. Four of us enjoyed our meals, two had gammon steaks (delicious), one lasagne, one scampi all served with the appropriate sides. The staff were attentive and helpful, the atmosphere very good, altogether a very pleasant lunchtime meal.

Thank you for a fabulous welcome and great meal..... totally enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Food was generous in portion size and very reasonable........ and hubby enjoyed the choice of beers. We will be back to see you again and I hope it is soon

Down to earth pub with proper food.

As a group of walkers who walk each week to eventually have lunch at a pub, the Red House is one of our favourites. There is always a friendly welcome from Pauline and her team, with a selection of quality cask ales, ciders and lagers. The food is always good and is reasonably priced. Being a favourite of the 20 or so members of the walking group we have had our Christmas lunch here for the past few years and looking forward to returning this December.

Seems a nice enough little pub however went for dinner here on the only day they weren't cooking 😔 so can't comment really

A really nice local pub. Thanks to the other patrons for making me so welcome as I was waiting to meet some other friends there. Facilities were 100% and the location is very quaint. A biker friendly pup too.

Nice country pub with good ale & food.

This restaurant was recommended earlier this year and have been a couple of times since. This is just how you imagine a country pub ought to be and we have never been disappointed. There is a good mix of locals out for a drink and people out for a meal. It's a shame we don't live nearer otherwise we would be more frequent customers

We received a warm welcome from the landlady on a Saturday lunch time in a pub that is well used by the locals. Our fresh cooked main meals were so large that we couldn't manage a desert. This pub is slightly off the beaten track from where we were staying in Bury St Edmunds but an easy to find ten minute drive was well worth the visit for a superb lunch. It's a no frills pub but with great friendly service, friendly locals & excellent food. We would highly recommend eating here to anyone for good old fashioned but substantial pub grub.

Just returned from another great evening at the Red house this time it was Mexican night, always great fun, great company with lots of laughs and the food was fabulous as always. If you are looking for a night out at a local pub then visit the Red House where you will always be made to feel most welcome by Pauline & John. Looking forward to the next time

Popped in for lunch recently. The 'usual' selection you would expect from a country pub but no chalk board, which was a tad disappointing. Not to worry, as the portions were good sized and tasty. Not what you'd call a 'character' place but food was good and they did serve Aspall's, which always goes down well!

This place is what it is. A local/village pub with good pub grub and lovely staff/owners. A warm welcome and a lovely lunch which was very reasonably priced. Steak pie is a must and apple pie lovely. The serving staff were really busy when we were there but still they found time to check all was well with our meal and we did not wait long.

After a six mile walk my wife and I had lunch at the Red House in Stanningfield, we both had the Tuna panini which was very nice, the staff were very attentive. We sat out side and all the locals that walked past us stopped for a chat most unusual these days. The next time we go for a walk there we will stop at the Red House for lunch.

Bar staff not that friendly. So many other good pubs in area, would not recommend this one.

Whilst visiting Suffolk we popped in for lunch. Really friendly service. We was made to feel very welcome.Good menu. Food was excellent value for the money. For a local pub we found it to be spotlessly clean.

The Red house is a Small village pub, it is very welcoming. The menu is varied and very good value. Good quality ingredients, locally sourced and very well cooked. Children and dog friendly.

You'll get a lovely warm welcome from Pauline and co at this friendly pub, and they catered for our party of 20 walkers with no trouble at all. Good ale and the best homemade steak and ale pie ever!

Visited the pub for lunch with a party of walkers (14 of us). We were all made very welcome. The orders were taken very efficiently, we were all seated together and the food came in very good time considering how many of us there were. I was worried that the reasonable cost of the food would result in small portions. No worries there, the portions were generous and the quality was excellent. Well kept beer too. Will certainly be visiting again.

My sister lives about one mile from The Red House Lub so we decided to go there for lunch. The interior of the pub was very bright and inviting and the staff were very nice.

We popped in for lunch, the pub was pleasantly busy with dining tables still available. The interior is light and airy with space and comfy seats. Real ale on tap.

I have not stayed here, but visited with friends for something to eat and a few drinks. The food was amazing value and obviously cooked to order...... great selection of beers on tap.

great place to stay clean friendly great freshly cooked breakfast neil and amanda were the perfect hosts nothing too much trouble for them ready to give you good advice on the surrounding area. if visiting the area again would not look anywhere else to stay as we were highly satisfied. could even use the local bus for visiting the other attractions in the area makes a great break from driving

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel at home, even though we had arrived a little early. Nothing was too much trouble for Amanda & Neil. The room was spotless with everything we needed for a 4 night stay. The legendary breakfast was superb, a wonderful start which kept us going all day. The array of beers was outstanding although we were only able to sample a few. Neil gave us sound advice relating to the areas we wished to visit. A wonderful few days away made so much better for staying here. We will return if visiting the area on another occasion.
