The Bay Tree Cafe Bistro in St Edmundsbury

First visit with friend and her 18 month old granddaughter. Food excellent and lovely friendly atmosphere. Booster seat meant toddler was happy for hour and a half. Will definitely come again.

Food was very underwhelming, with the fries being very disappointing. £10 for dirty fries not even close to worth it. Lovely staff though.

We're regular visitors to the Bay Tree Cafe because the food is absolutely delicious and original. The cakes are next level and you have to try the scones. To top it all off, the staff are amazing. So friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely environment to relax and that's why we always make the Bay Tree are go to cafe.

Walk out of the main drag and down St John's Street because it is a gem that the town has to offer. Lovely, quirky shops and some of our best cafés. I haven't been to the Bay Tree Cafe since the present guys took over and I have clearly been missing a treat! The cheese scones are fresh, cheesy, light inside and crispy outside: woohoo! Exactly how they should be! No microwave nonsense here! The cakes are similarly superb: I mean really good 😁 We had the vanilla sponge and the carrot cake and we were not disappointed!!😋 There's a lovely Canadian flavour to the place & that's magic to have that added to what Bury has to offer. The staff are friendly, with a lovely sense of humour and the atmosphere is comfortable and homely. Definitely a new favourite 😍 🥳

It was our first visit to this cafe in Bury and it definitely won’t be our last. We went there for breakfast and my partner had the full English and I had a toasted cheese sandwich which was served with a small portion of homemade coleslaw. All the food was tasty, well presented and appeared to contain good quality ingredients. Apart from the food being very enjoyable, a mention must go to the staff who were lovely.

Popped in for a cuppa while on a day out in Bury , immediately made to feel very welcome and the atmosphere was very relaxed and calming, the breakfast was one of the tastiest iv ever had , will definitely be visiting again .

This is my favourite cafe in town. The food is great (especially the naniamo bars!), and the staff is incredible! Don’t go to a chain: go indie!

Unfortunately food was cold served on cold plate, it was the English breakfast at high price point only one sausage cut in half would and cheap streaky bacon but the real issue was it was cold , big shame as its a lovely little place with lovely staff.

I have visited a few times and always have received good service. I have had the Vietnamese sandwich with chips a few times, it is my favorite dish here. Overall it is a good cafe in town.

What a fabulous find for brunch, out of our area, with such lovely staff. We had and an amazing breakfast, with a delicious coffee. Very relaxing atmosphere, with no rush for the table. We will definitely return, when we next visit.

Was in Bury for the weekend and read great reviews about this place so popped in for a Sunday breakfast. AMAZING macaroni cheese (unorthodox breakfast choice but I was starving), delicious coffee and really friendly and warm service. HIGHLY recommend!

Possibly one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in town. The Moroccan chicken hash was beautifully seasoned and the poutine was divine. Friendly service and generous portions. We felt so relaxed in there and will definitely be back

Just had the best breakfast I think I've ever had out in town . Breakfast hash with sausage. Tasted amazing, service with a smile as always and a pup cup for Douglas our Cockapoo. Could not have been happier

The service was great, friendly staff. Have ordered dirty fries and choclote milkshake. The toppings were on low side and it was a bit soggy, felt way overpriced for £10, the milkshake was spot on.

Really nice, went in for a quick drink because I was early for an appt. Ended up having chips too 😋 service really quick, pleasant staff, very helpful. 😊

Three of us went for breakfast, husband and I had smoked haddock hash and daughter had sausage hash, beautifully cooked with amazing flavours, would highly recommend, lovely to have something different, everything cooked freshly, service was very good too as was the coffee.

First visit & no idea why it took so long! Good food, friendly staff, and a really nice vibe.

Great little find. Such a varied menu. Had something we'd never tried before and it was hot tasty and great value for money. All the staff including the chef were attentive polite and friendly. We shall most definitely be back!

Went here today for the first time to catch up with a friend, first of all the food was amazing really good portions and so tasty, the coffee was lovely and the staff were really friendly and happy and it made the whole experience so nice, me and my friend have decided we have to go back and it will be one of our regular spots from now on

This is one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Bury, they have amazing sandwiches and they are really reasonably priced. The staff are really kind and friendly as well. My BLT was delicious!

Such an expected cute little Canadian cafe in Bury St Edmunds! Full disclosure: I have only ever had the maple pecan butter tart here but it was so good that I went back for another the next day. The brunch food I saw on other people's tables looked delicious, and the staff were so warm and friendly. Would definitely come back to try brunch and a milkshake (and a poutine) one day!

Before today we'd only gotten coffee, which is amazing. But we decided to sit in and have lunch. Oh. My. Gawd. I got the Cubano and it was delicious. My partner had a Cumberland hash and said the homemade BBQ sauce was really good. Honorable mention to the garlic and herb fries, which I lamentably didn't have enough room to finish 😭 Beyond the food, the waitstaff is so nice and as an added bonus they're dog friendly! Definitely our go-to for lunch in Bury now

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this cafe and I am thrilled to leave a 5-star review. From the moment I walked in, the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The menu was filled with a wide variety of delicious options, each dish prepared with fresh ingredients and presented beautifully along side bursting with flavour and crafted with skill. The attention to detail and commitment to quality truly set this cafe apart. I can't wait to return and indulge in another delightful experience.

With a lot of competition locally, it is not always easy to stand out. Bay Tree Cafe manages it effortlessly in the two key areas. the menu is excellent and varied, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch and suits either the smaller, or larger appetite. The food is freshly prepared, very tasty and competitively priced. The cheese scones are also the best in town. Equally important the staff are friendly, warm, inclusive and inviting. Bury St Edmunds has a plethora of cafe choices and so in order to stand out a place has to be exceptional and Bay Tree Cafe is such a place. It is not just the excellent freshly prepared menu, whether eating breakfast, brunch, lunch, from the snack to the substantial and it is not just the terrific, friendly and welcoming staff, from Alex himself to Lisa, Kira, Kelsey and co. It is the combination of excellent food and lovely staff that together create a vibe and ambiance that is very hard to beat. A place you always come out happier than when you went in. A real home from home....

I have visited this establishment many times, and I can definitely say I find it the best in town, the hot chocolate is delicious, and the coffee is a gorgeous dark roast from a local roaster. The jambalaya and the hash is clearly made by a chef who's passionate about his work and it shows. the waiting staff are a delight

I was very disappointed with my sausage sandwich breakfast. The sausage was sliced extremely thin and placed across the whole sandwich. I expect this is some savings measure to save on the amount of sausages used. I would expect a sandwich to contain at least 2 sausages, but my sandwich and those of my friends probably probably contained one sausage at the most. Interestingly, there was a group of 14 of us today who regularly breakfast in Bury St Edmunds - The Bay Tree will now be removed from our list of places to visit.

Lovely cafe with nice coffees! The Sunday brunch mushroom hash was delicious followed by a scrumptious pecan maple tart with ice cream. Very friendly and excellent service.

We found this little gem by chance while shopping in Bury. I’m so glad we did, we were allowed to take the dog in and he was given a Puppaccino 🐾 meanwhile our food was delicious, service was friendly and efficient. We will be back. Highly recommended

Lovely cafe with delicious interesting food and friendly efficient staff. We had the Cuban bread with hot slow cooked beef, cornichons and cheese sauce, and the Cuban bread with streaky bacon, smoked ham, emnental cheese, cornichons and mustard. Also a portion of fries with garlic and parsley. Good wine and beer. Dog friendly.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday and there was such a lovely vibe. The food was really yummy and the staff just topped it all off - they were really attentive and didnt rush us to leave at the end. We were there for a good 2 hours, we had such a lovely time, thank you

The food, the service and the atmosphere were all perfect. Breakfast was so good we came back later for lunch - and breakfast again next day. Just a short visit to Bury, but so glad we found The Bay Tree. Be adventurous, try something different, visit The Bay Tree and enjoy life.

We had a fabulous lunch here for my friend's birthday. The service was great. We were not hurried to leave when we had finished which was so nice. The meals came on hot plates and were delicious. We had the middle eastern chicken dish. The pecan pie was moreish. We were able to pay with cash which is unfortunately becoming unusual. The only downside was the chairs were uncomfortable and would benefit from chair cushions. This was probably noticeable because we were able to stay so long.

What a lovely dog friendly cafe! We had excellent service, including a free puppuccino for our dog. The food and drink were all delicious and the staff were kind and efficient. We will be back when we are next in the area!

Chef (who I think may be the owner), was very friendly and talkative. I had a chicken&bacon sandwich + trimmings, fries + milkshake. I was very impressed with everything. I LOVE a good sandwich & that was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had!!

A wonderful place for Brunch or afternoon tea. I enjoyed a flavourful chicken salad sandwich, with crisp bread and extra yummy filling. Loved the cookies sold at the til. Staff we nice and sure to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely going back again. Fair priced. Dog friendly.

What a lovely place! I met two friends here to have brunch, chat about our writerly careers and view the Local Authors' Shelf upstairs containing the books of the Bury Writers and Beyond group. The welcome was extremely warm, the coffee delicious, the toast crisp and hot and the surroundings delightful. I didn't feel hurried for a second and I will be returning often. I'm just sorry it's on the other side of the county. But well, well worth the trip
