The Pakenham Fox in St Edmundsbury

Excellent range of gluten and dairy free food, it was fantastic to have a choice of food! The staff were really accommodating and very helpful. Portion sizes were generous. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next night!

We have now visited The Fox on two occasions. Both times we have found the whole experience exceptional! The quality of food is 2nd to none, really friendly, helpful staff and great atmosphere. Will most definitely return! Many thanks!

Very good service excellent food

Popped in for a drink and a bite to eat whilst on a country walk. Very warm welcome, muddy boots and dog no problem. Great service, fab food and excellent ale, all at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

We came for Sunday Lunch with friends. The food is amazing. The men had starters, soup & a very large prawn cocktail. Then we all had the mixed meat roast dinner which was delicious. Loads of lovely fresh vegetables & bowl of cauliflower cheese. The young waiting staff were very helpful & polite. We will definitely visit again.

Friendly landlord and staff, great garden in the summer, always open! What's not to like?

Called on the off chance of a table n managed to get one . We had a mixed sunday lunch ( beef n pork ) and it was the best roast dinner that we have had in ages . Real roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds , massive portion size and the girls that serve are friendly and efficient in their roles , nothing was too much trouble. And to top it all its a free house so had lots of good beers to choose from .... look forward to our next visit

Great place! Proper cosy pub with "pub classics" menu done VERY well. We had the recommended steak and ale pie and it was sensational. The meals that arrived at the next table looked pretty good too! There's a lot of attention to detail in flavours as well as the presentation of the food. Restaurant quality pub food. Thank you 🙂

Nice food at a good price and the atmosphere was decent, the only mistake we made was sitting next to the door that people were in and out of. Also just go and sit down at a table as we were standing there like a couple of lemons waiting to be seated.

Proper food....... good wholesome pies - with fantastic pastry foxes on top, full of beautiful steak and a delicious gravy, and the puddings defy description - absolutely fabulous. Staff lovely, very polite. Just brilliant.

Food was OK nothing amazing however the bottle of wine one of the small bottles ( as on a plane) was I thought was very over charged at over £7 !!!! and was only OK not brillant !!!! So stick to water when you visit !!

Staff were very friendly and made us feel really welcome. The food was outstanding well cooked, presented and very very tasty.

Lovely Pub to stop for lunch on a Saturday bike ride, huge range of ciders (good beers too). Loved sitting out in the September sun in their garden, sipping our cider and snacking on their nachos.

We recently had the reception for our daughter’s christening here and I can’t recommend it enough. Everybody commented on the lovely garden space, the delicious food and the relaxed atmosphere that was perfect for us all to mingle. It was the perfect summer christening reception. Thank you Ross, Matt and team. We will be back very soon.

Had a great visit here on a sunny Sunday: they were doing bbq - burgers, chicken, pork, vegan burgers and falafel, pasta salad and potatoes, something for everyone! lovely outdoor seating area and happy atmosphere! Love it.

Booked table for 3, two adults + one lady of 101yrs old, on arrival requested another table (no problem) drinks order taken and delivered, food order taken (any queries answered) food arrived piping hot and very good, as was the dessert choices, a good evening with good food/drinks and excellent service, booking a must

This is a family friendly place with excellent beer at a reasonable price, and good pub food served by friendly staff. Outside there is an excellent beer garden and play area for kids. If you are expecting much line starred food you will be disappointed, but their pies with their signature pastry fox on top are excellent and there is a reasonable vegetarian choice. It is a big favourite with my grandchildren.

Stopped there for lunch today and placed my order, the pub was not very busy but it took ages for the food to arrive, when it did it was good but for a mere hoagie I was very surprised

All the meals I have had here have been excellent, but tonight’s Lasagna was over the top awesome. If I hadn’t been with others around, I would have licked the dish clean, it was that good. Ordered and had the dish in under 10 minutes, with garlic toast that was fresh and hot. Amazing staff, beautiful venue, but dear damn the Lasagna was better than back home.

Brilliant restaurant. I enjoyed the ambience. The young ladies Lizzie and Meghan were very polite smiled and gave good service to our table. The menu gives good choice so for most people they will find something that they like. Lovely old pub in the village of Pakenham, Suffolk. Friendly staff, great selection of beers and gins! Lovely garden and play area for the kids. Only thing that let's it down is it's pretty limited and pricey food menu.

A super pub with very friendly staff. Our meal was delicious and we highly recommend it. The garden looked lovely too (it was a bit chilly to sit outside). We will definitely be back when the sun’s out!

We went for Sunday roast lunch which is advertised on their website. Once seated we asked what roasts were on and were told no roasts now as Summer menu is on. If we hadn't already ordered our drinks we would have probably left as the reason we went was for a roast dinner. The summer menu was underwhelming. Staff were pleasant and polite. Tables are packed in and hardly room to get by in some places.

Great service, brilliant food and a lovely park for my 2 nieces (not forgetting all that land for the dog to run about in). Will definitely go again & suggested it to friends and family. Very friendly staff, very reasonably priced food. The food is not far off being excellent pub food, the Pie was decent,however I'm not a fan of a pastry lid although it did have a brilliant pastry fox on top! The Triple cooked chips that accompanied were plain bizarre. The wedges looked and tasted like they had started the triple cooking process some days ago. Very dry with a slightly black tinge and definitely not crispy. Fries accompanying mac n cheese were spot on however the mac n cheese needs plenty of work to make it onto a decent dish. So place the fries with the pie and you have an excellent pie dish and delete the mac n cheese off the menu. Curry was fine along with the accompliments, no check back, Desserts were excellent. Not too far off being a really nice place to visit for a bite to eat just a few tweeks required. Outside area looked great for warmer evenings

We had heard some good reports about the Fox, this was our first visit and we were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in staff were friendly and made us feel right at home. Menu had a good choice, food was delivered quickly, with great presentation and plenty on the plate. We will definitely be returning. See you soon.

A wonderful pub, especially if your kids like plenty of space to run around. Absolutely wonder Sunday roasts. Highly recommended for more reasons than I can list here.

My wife and I had lunch here yesterday. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Good beer and food. We both went for the filled baguette. They were huge and well filled. I plumped for the sausage and onion. My wife went for the prawns. They came very quickly and with salad and chips. Thoroughly enjoyed! The pub and toilets were spotless. We noticed they had a large beer garden and field with children’s play equipment. I’m sure it’s very popular with families on warm sunny days. A proper pub in a delightful village.

A great local pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Child and dog friendly with plenty of tables available inside and out. FOH and Chef were more than accomodating for allergens/intolerances, and we're friendly throughout. Sunday roast was served with a great selection of veg (red cabbage, Savoy, broccoli, carrots, parsnips) in addition to roast potatoes, all tasted fresh

Family gathering, pre-booked. Food an hour late; Luke warm roast meals, warmed up roasted potatoes, vegetables arrived as an afterthought; puddings likewise late to the table and not what was pre-ordered. Staff polite but clearly overstretched, as was kitchen. Management disinterested in customers. All price and bad delivery.

Went on a very busy cold Friday night. Lovely to see so many people enjoying fish and chips which was lush. Will definitely be returning midweek or on a Sunday to try out the other menus. Everything was presented really well ... even our after dinner cups of tea. Highly recommended. P.s. try the onion rings ... you will not be disappointed!

A lot of money for what you get, service very poor, no cutlery when served food which went cold when waiting, no alternatives for food couldn't eat just left off plate but charged the same, turkey very hard and tough so inedible, seemed as if it was overcooked in a microwave, custard portion minuscule with dessert, and left off takeaway one. Went home hungry and cold. No way good enough when it is costing £300 for the meal.

Had Sunday lunch in this very inviting pub. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. I have to say the lunch was very good indeed. Reasonably priced and good quality. Highly recommended.

Good Village Pubs are very few and far between..... But this one is absolutely outstanding!!!!! Being a parent, having an outdoor play area and lots of safe open space is such a find!!!! The food is delicious ( I had the chicken burger) all the staff are so friendly and welcoming!!!! Also the cocktails are Mmmmmmmm Thank you The Fox Team!!! Keep doing what you are doing so well, We will be back.... Lots X

Our favourite pub for a beer or drink of a weekend evening. Prices are very reasonable, the beer selection is good, and the place is clean with a real charm to it. The gardens are also huge and a nice place to laze in the summer. Food is pub food and is fine if you calibrate your expectations. A nice vibe.

The Fox is a Suffolk pub gem! We love going here with friends or as a family 🖤 Last weekend we popped along to their beer festival Foxtoberfest 🦊 Whether you like the darkest ale, prefer a fruity cocktail or a mocktail there was a tipple to tickle everyone's fancy!

The Fox has a great atmosphere, a really good bar with a great choice of ales and a fantastic outside area/garden, the staff are friendly and welcoming, but I’m afraid the food lets it down. It’s very bland, the ploughman’s I had in the summer...

Amazing food. Everything seemed fresh and I suspect local. This place does it right!! Highly recommended

Popped into the Pakenham Fox for food and drink as hadn’t been here before. What can say, great atmosphere and really friendly landlord and staff. Met with a warm welcome and a smile. The food I had was amazing, massive portion and delicious (shout out to the chef!!) It also has a lovely open , well kept garden with awesome play area for children. Will be definitely visiting again soon!

We ate at The Fox when visiting family nearby. And boy we were not disappointed in the slightest! The welcoming atmosphere was great and very friendly. The food was great, good portion sizes, and very good value for money. We were a mixed bunch of adults, children, vegans, vegetarians and big meat eaters - and all were very pleased with the choices! In fact it was so good we went back two weekends running!! The second time of visiting they had the BBQ going. Lots of choice for all again. Order your meat/Veggie/vegan choices, all cooked fresh for you, and help yourself to lots of different salad choices. They even had steaks (with a small extra charge) which was perfectly cooked! Couldn't of been happier! Lots of outside space/tables. A play area for the children and lots of space for them to safely run around! And not forgetting a very large choice of Gin and different flavoured tonics!!! Couldn't recommend this beautiful pub more!

Worst meal I have eaten for a long time. My chicken was inedible, so hard I couldn’t cut it. When I asked for French dressing the waitress looked confused and said they didn’t have any. The halloumi was horrid, small lumps of burnt stuff on a bed of lettuce with an unpleasant sauce. Seemed everything had been cooked in a deep fat fryer and left in too long. The Panna Cotta was not Panna Cotta but a lemon tart, but at least it was edible. Don’t think the cook knows what Panna Cotta is. Horrible.

Dreadful meal. Inedible. Over cooked, hard chicken that couldn’t be cut. Revolting small lumps of over fried halloumi with a salad that just consisted of lettuce. Worst meal I have ever been served in a restaurant.

We came here on a Wednesday night after trying 2 local pubs that didn't serve food. We were not disappointed! We both had the fox chicken burger and it was delicious. Generous serving, piping hot and super tasty! Really good sign to see lots of people eating on a random Wednesday night too! We sat in the garden which was beautiful and huge..definitely bringing my husband and children back! Looked like lots of local beers and ciders too. We will be back!

Pub has been refurbished to a high standard, pity the same couldn't be said for the food, very disappointing especially as its not cheap. Unfortunately we won't be returning.
