I’m grateful I made the mental note to try this place while I’m still in Bury and the women who work there were so so so chatty and genuine nice people. I went in with no idea what to have, I’m often very picky but today I told them I was leaning towards their cajun chicken and that they could choose the rest! They offered up the best additions, even suggested I get it in a wrap and I was all for it. Totally inexpensive as well, so affordable and I think this is the true selling point for Hatters Sandwich Bar, other than their delicious fresh ingredients of course. Pop in for breakfast or lunch and you’ll be sorted right out :)) I WILL be back to try more variations!!!

We stumbled on this yesterday when looking for some lunch to grab and take to the Abbey Gardens. Its an amazing sandwich shop with lots of choice of breads and fillings. It was all freshly made by the incredibly cheerful and friendly people working there. So good, we went back for more today. It’s on Hatters Street just off of Abbeygate and well worth seeking out.

We are so glad we found this place! Exactly what you want from a sandwich shop, loads of choices for lovely fillings & you can pick whatever you want. We just ate our extremely delicious & very well-filled sandwich & bap in the Abbey Gardens. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Bury St Edmunds. Thank you lovely lady!

What lovely food ! We recently ordered a Buffett for a 60th wedding anniversary. The selection of sandwiches were brilliant, so many different varieties and really packed with fillings. The cakes and savouries were amazing, everyone commented on how well they were presented. Great communication from start to finish, would highly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to use again. Thank you

I got two bacon rolls from here. I was hoping for two fresh bacon rolls but the bacon had already been cooked and was just heated up so it was really dry. The buns were huge though and the portion of bacon was generous.

Lovely summers day in Bury st Edmunds, lunch time came around. Found this fabulous place, tucked down a lane between the butter market and Angel hill. Staff so friendly and helpful, fresh bread and loads of lovely fresh fillings and all great value. Will definitely use again when I'm there, little off the main drag, but only 1 min walk, you should go there, support local, people like this need and deserve you 😀👌

You've just lost a customer. I'm trying to support the High St and went in to Hatters for a sandwich, as I did last week, only to be told (abruptly) when I tried to pay with a card that it's a minimum spend of £5. I mentioned that it was ok last week when I used my card only to be told that I must have bought something else, which I didn't. I asked where is the sign saying minimum spend of £5 using a card. I was told (abruptly) "It doesn't" How can anyone providing a customer service think that this is acceptable. I'll go elsewhere from now on, there's plenty of choice

I am writing this review as I’m sitting in Abbey Gardens eating quite possibly one of the freshest and most delicious sandwiches I’ve ever eaten! (I LOVE sandwiches) 🤣 I’m so pleased I stumbled across this place; lovely fresh food, delicious cakes, great value, and simply the best service from two of the friendliest ladies I’ve come across. Bury St. Edmunds has this superb, reliable and welcoming Sandwich Bar that serves freshly made sandwiches (not pre made) on Hatters Street. The staff are extremely friendly and more than willing to go the extra mile for any requirements. I frequent Bury St. Edmunds on a regular basis and eat in a variety of venues, but this place is one of my top 3 to visit for that very fresh hand made sandwich. If you come to Bury St. Edmunds you must go to Hatters and try the homemade cakes, (they sell out fast!) they are outstanding. Trust me, speak to the local people, they all talk about the peanut butter chocolate brownies.

This place over the years used to be a great place to stop by during a shopping trip. It is quite a shame that the choice of sandwiches has not moved with the time and quality of bread is so poor. This is like a trip back in the 70's with nothing really exciting. The choice of teas is so poor it is painful The service itself is diabolical with youngsters running around achieving very little for their customers due to their lack of attention.

We visit Hatters when we are in town and fancy some lunch, yesterday I had a tuna and salad bap, scotch egg and a Diet Coke, my fiancée had a salmon salad and a bottle of water, we paid £8.20 which is very very reasonable. There's a greggs just up the road but I would go to hatters over anywhere else any day. You would be paying £10-£15 for that amount of food at a chain restaurant. Hatters is small and Independent. Staff are very friendly and they're always busy. Am I surprised? Not at all. Best sandwich shop in town! The carrot cake is amazing too!! 😀😀

This narrow, busy sandwich bar is the hidden gem of Bury St Edmunds when it comes to lunchtime sandwiches. Food is freshly prepared to order, with a decent range of fillings and breads, salads, hot and cold snacks, Hatters is very popular with local workers and well-researched visitors Monday to Friday.

The Hatters Sandwich Bar is one of three in the same general area of Bury St Edmunds. It provides a very good counter service, but has very limited seating in a bar style arrangement. The shop is in a relatively awkward place to access, being on a one way street with limited parking. This said it seems popular with a fair amount of foot traffic, and judging by the acknowledgements by staff members, a fair few regulars. The positives include really good quality bread. The granary bap I had was very fresh, and was very large. The tuna mayo was average, but the salad portions were very generous and complimented the tuna well. The selection of fillings, and of salad options was more limited than the nearby competitors, but the overall sandwich was as good. All in all this is an above average shop, with professional friendly staff, and a feel of quality. 3.75 of 5.

Frazzled from shopping with a toddler and our 3 first choices of restaurants full, we went to Hatters and we were glad we had. Nice service , good food,I had the mussels and my husband the soup, which was homemade and our daughter- in- law the hummus, all very good. Our grand daughter had a child's meal which she thoroughly enjoyed and of course did not mind that it was a chicken burger and not the sausage one I had ordered. Nice touch the appropriate size cutlery for Eve. Thank you we will come back.

Found this coffee shop following recommendation from a friend. The sandwich bar has now been extended and there's a coffee shop on the side. Tables and comfy chairs are situated in the front part of the shop whilst out the back there are sofas and more comfy leisure style chairs. We went on a Saturday and were the only ones in the front part (a family were at the back) - clearly it was empty like this because no-one knows about it yet! Service was quick and attentive. Ordered a cappuccino and a mocha, some rocky road and a bakewell tart and it was under £9 - great tasting too. Would thoroughly recommend this whether you are after a quick catch up with a friend or going as a group - surprisingly though, the menu choice of sandwiches and wraps seems somewhat limited (considering it is a sandwich shop!) but I guess they don't want to scare customers off with too much choice. At a guess, they'd pretty much make any sandwich you wanted to order! Check it out.

This was our first visit to Baileys 2. We were warmly greeted on arrival & given a choice of where to sit, there is a small dining area as you walk in but there is a larger dining area the back all really welcoming & cosy. There is a great selection of food & drink available & we settled for the cooked breakfast which was beautifully cooked & presented. The staff were lovely - many customers were obviously regulars given the warm & friendly manner staff greeted them when they arrived. We will definitely go back, it's one of Burys hidden gems. We highly recommend visiting if you're ever in Bury St Edmunds.

Food as always was fine. But made incorrectly due to the rush of the server. Came in at 1:30pm 1 hour till closing, and the atmosphere was panicked , rushed and ultimately I wished I’d never even bothered. All baps had salad scraped from the bottom of a tub, which the servers and managers couldn’t decide to keep out or put away, even while someone was making orders. I was told prawn was sold out, then they found some prawns to use. No manners from anyone involved. I had no time to mention an intolerance to tomato as the server rushed off to the kitchen to make my theirs and final order so this one went straight in the bin. No care taken. Please do better
