Nice pub to visit when in Ramsbottom did not eat here just a few drinks

Excellent - not been in for 12 months and what a fantastic difference- we'll done

We only called in for a couple of pints but it was nice bar staff helpful.

This is one of our favourite places to go in Arms bottom. The staff are so lovely, drinks and food are really good and the atmosphere is relaxing and laid back, lighting is pleasing to the eyes. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is in the bathrooms, in the stalls they have a wooden picture placed on the door, when I pushed it closed the staples were sticking out and cut my finger open.

The DJ does requests and allowed a group of 20 of us to shout along to Metallic - very hospitable

Served by Jen and she was absolutely lovely. Told me about the deal on the desperado, so of course I got 2. Brought a friend in and he had the lasagne and he's said "it's the best lasagne I've had in years". I had the bbq chicken wings and cheesy chips. The chips were smooooothered in cheese, both delicious! Love coming here for a pint and food. Lovely pub, always clean, bar staff very friendly and good grub

My Dad took us to the Railway for the first time ever and the food & service was amazing. My steak was cooked to perfection and very tasty. My family had a few pick n mix and main meals and were all freshly cooked, hot, tasty and great value for money. Can’t wait to go back. The staff were all smiling and the pub had a very warm family friendly atmosphere considering it was busy. The food also arrived at a great time after ordering and the biscoff sundae’s are Devine 😁. Took my family out for a meal for a birthday treat and it was our first time eating at The Railway. We certainly weren’t disappointed. The warm friendly service was well received, great atmosphere and family friendly. We ordered a series of pick n mix and main meals that were all hot, fresh and tasty. My daughter had steak and it was cooked to perfection, all of which were good value for money and food arrived in a timely manner. Will definitely be returning 😁

Nipped in for lunch and a pint during the 1940s event at the ELR. Quick and polite service, reasonable prices and although only serving burgers had no issue with the food.

Nice enough place but stood waiting for an age to get served then I was provided with a dirty glass sticky with someone’s last drink returned it not a word from grumpy bar maid . Not recommended

Wish we knew wot days food is served,we have called in 3 times an been told no food,u got a cracking pub there next to steam train an known in rammy for years , I've been for numerous meals an nights out so please sort out what days u do food an which u don't thanks

Hi this is a lovely pub restarount that has a lovely affordable menu, I personaly recommend this pub as I've eaten her on many occasions and always enjoyed the food, drink and the lovely polite staff, Lovely eating area and quick service so please do try this pub.

Had a lovely family meal on Sunday but was disappointed to learn food wasn't served at tea time on Wednesday which was also half term. It was only just turned 4 when we arrived and previously kids meals were £1 when ordered with an adult meal during half term. We've been dining here for over 2 years and we weren't even bothered by the deal, but we're regular customers and we enjoy coming in on this day to have some family time, so to see food service resume at this time would mean we would return. We went to another local restaurant and ate, which is a shame as Emma is incredible and I feel this is a disservice to her and her food. She goes above and beyond every time and we have never been disappointed.

Food, drinks and service all OK but nothing special.

Friendly contemporary refurbished pub with plenty of space to relax following walks on the moors in and around Ramsbottom. Outside seating available to the rear of the property and three rooms inside (one has a pool table). Sky sports available on screens throughout the venue. Nice pub, visited several years ago and pleased I went back.

Just called into The Railway for lunch with my good lady and doggos. I understand they’re under new ownership as of last week. Gotta say - food was excellent (burger and chicken wings amongst the best I’ve ever had). Service super friendly and beer good. Can recommend with no reservation. ☺️

Just finished a walk with a few friends and called in just for a drink, good place but toilets are a way off upstairs, but lovely pint of pale ale and friendly staff.

Food is one hundred per cent better than on previous occasions.

Dog Friendly! Great service and atmosphere. A decent menu however the food was average.

Went in for a drink on a Saturday night. There was one drinkable real ale. That's fine. It is also the only good thing to say about the place. A big, soulless space. 99% of the clientele seem to be young males watching what appeared to be sport of various screens. I say appeared because the commentary did not match what was on. Very unfriendly atmosphere. avoid.

The service is great and staff is friendly. The food is in-standard (but slightly expensive) Because of its unique location, it is a great place to recharge yourself if you are waiting for the steam train in Ramsbottom Station.

I came from Salford for the day lovely town . The pub was friendly and welcoming the food was excellent 👌

We visited here several times whilst staying at a local campsite. Everytime we went in the service by all the staff was excellent. Especially the lady chef, we spoke with her as our family was coming to visit us for the day and we wanted to bring them to the pub for a meal, my mother in law needs gluten free options. Eventhough you don't have a Pacific gluten free menu, which is no problem because you're lady chef came and spoke to us and she did everything possible to try and accommodate this. The food was absolutely excellent and great value for money. A little note for the manager, what an excellent team you have there. Everything was perfect even when the pub was extremely busy, the whole experience was 5*

This is a great place to enjoy a cold beer on a hot day and watch the trains go by. The staff were friendly and there was a wide range of drinks on offer.

Decent pub grub. I had the fish and chips. Sat outside with the dogs in the sun with a couple of pints. Can’t go wrong!

Excellent service. Popped in for a drink after a meal up the road. We asked for a taxi on leaving which the bar staff sorted out, and even let us know when it was outside. Perfect

Used to go in here many, many moons ago and what a change for the better...Good selection of lagers for me, reasonably priced, very modern, good vibe and you can get your sports as well, not much not to like..well done for the re-vamp 😀

Having last been in the Railway 30 years ago and noticing on Facebook that it had been given a new facelift we decided to have lunch and a pint on a wet Saturday and we realy enjoyed it , The wife and daughter had good old Mac and cheese and I had the chicken combo ,washed down with a couple of pints nothing not to like , super friendly staff got to be a massive thumbs up from me ..

Excellent experience, staff great and the place was spotless including the huge beer garden with a hoarding the size I have never seen before, with heaters and a huge TV.

It’s rare that I offer a bad review but felt the need today. My friends and I visited for a quick lunch, nacho starters were watery runny Luke warm bottled cheese and drab sour cream / salsa and then then mains arrived. My chicken combo was so over cooked the chicken strips could have cracked a floor tile if dropped. My friend ordered chicken tikka, the oil was literally dripping from the popadoms and sitting on top of the curry bowl. The chicken burger wasn’t cooked through and again was oily and tasteless. The pleasant young girls serving were very smiley but on attempt to complain about the food standard we were met with a very insincere “sorry about that” .. it wasn’t an expensive meal but a wasted £85 and a loss of repeat custom for the establishment as we wouldn’t consider returning. Very disappointed

Beer was nice and the girl behind the bar was great. Food was average, gammon was quite tasteless and even though there are plenty of options from the grill, they don't supply English mustard... Waitresses response was they'd asked for some but it's never supplied, please show some initiative and just buy a few bottles from the supermarket...

Popped in for food and a few drinks, amazing service tasty food. The young lady (didn’t catch her name, was wearing a red top) who looked after us, was pleasant, extremely friendly & always smiling away! 10/10 for customer service. Definitely would recommend!

Completed a 3 hour walk and popped in by chance (just after the news of a second lock down), the service and food was incredible. I cant imagine how hard it is during a time like this especially after the recent new of a second closure, but the staff and food were still incredible. Big shout out to the young man who greeted us at the door and served us on Sunday 1st November, I think he said he was 22 years old, he was fun and attentive and just brilliant. Will definitely be back

Whilst staying in Ramsbottom for a couple of days we were looking for somewhere for dinner where we could watch the football. We contacted the Railway having walked by earlier in the day and they replied immediately arranging a table for us. All safety measures well in place and enforced, service outstanding and the staff so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Definitely a place to visit.

came here last night for a few drinks under the new lockdown rules and we just wanted to say a massive thank you to troy who handled everything so well considering how busy it was in the pub and to all the rest of the staff as well. always made sure we had drinks on our table and were so polite. Paid a visit for the first time today and orderd food on the last ..eat out to help out .. scheme. Eventually after quite a wait we were disappointed at the quality of the food . Very basic . It tasted ok but if we had to pay the full price we certainly would have had a complaint ! Its lovely inside and the outside area is excellent. The staff too were doing the best that they could. Obviously very busy but in the main efficient and friendly. Thank you to our excellent servers Connor, Callum and Troy. Without your excellent service our experience would certainly not be as good. So yes, we will return but not for the food.

Today we decided to go for a family walk to Nuttall Park and call into The Railway on our way home with our 7 year old daughter. In the theme of social distancing we sat outside in a booth minding our own business.... until all hell broke loose!! The table behind us had a huge argument with what seemed to be half the pub, the language in front of our daughter was horrendous F, T & C words used repeatedly, one guy leaning over me punching the wooden table whilst f’ing this & t’ing that!!!! The bar staff came out & heard the argument in full flow but couldn’t control it & more came from inside the pub to join in, it was an absolute disgrace, frightening and completely out of control. One of the bar Mgrs kindly asked if we was ok, after it eventually calmed down, he went on to offer us a drink for the upset ....then, wait for it, charged us!!!! I just wanted to get the hell out of there alive. I am still gobsmacked, awful experience WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!! Our daughter upset all evening DO NOT GO HERE FOR A FAMILY AFTERNOON DRINK, real shame as a lovely looking pub - end of!

My self and a couple of friends along with their dogs, decided to stop off for a drink and bite to eat. The waitor on duty at the time, Troy, was only too obliging and accommodating. Considering it was our first day out to a pub since the beginning of lockdown, we were made feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - Bailey and Cass included (woof woof). We will be back soon.

My partner and I a ride out to here just a stop off for a beverage. On arrival we were asked to wait to be seated. A young lad then showed us to a table for 2. We sat down and waited for someone to come over to collect our orders. After 15 mins of nothing and a table of 4 coming in within 5 mins and being served by a girl we still had no one come over to us !!! So after 20 mins we decided to leave. Not very good in my eyes. !!!!!!

Lovely pub staff friendly but what a very bad roast dinner they serve up, it's all processed bland tasteless food you can dig out of the freezer yourself, disgusting frozen roast potatoes, frozen carrots all 6 of them, frozen Yorkshire pudding , nothing homemade, revolting shockingly bad I'm afraid so I won't eat there again, shame as the setting is very nice.

Decided to try a meal my husband had an all day breakfast and I had a 4 oz gammon with fries. Very disappointed with gammon and my husbands bacon as it was greasy and defo been cooked in old oil as it left loads of black grease on the plate, the bacon looked disgusting. Fries not brilliant neither. Would not go there again

Visited today as a family of 3, no problems getting a nice comfortable table. Husband ordered food at the bar and told there would be a 20-30 minute wait, which we thought was acceptable. Over an hour later it arrived, sandwiches were ok but chips dry and overcooked and no salad garnish (as advertised). Child’s beef burger arrived on a chargrilled, rock hard toasted roll which was sent back to the kitchen to be swapped for a ‘fresh’ one, which was also completely stale. The table next to us also had to send a number of items back and had to request some of the food they had ordered which hadn’t arrived. They requested to speak to a manager and was told the deputy would come over once she was ready but she didn’t turn up. Not worth the money we paid, wouldn’t visit again and would not recommend. Felt sorry for the waitress receiving the flack for the poor quality food.

We decided to try out the menu as there had recently been a refurbishment. My wife had the chicken curry. The flavours were good but there we only 4 pieces of chicken and she didn't even get the chutney. I had the fish and chips which was nice but chip where poor and there weren't enough peas.

No longer serving a traditional Sunday lunch! Service at the bar was very slow and drinks are not as good value for money as in some other places across Ramsbottom. Had high hopes for when it was refurbed but hasn’t lived up to expectation on all occasions that we’ve visited. Beer garden is cramped and smokers are allowed to sit anywhere so, if you don’t smoke you’re surrounded.

Went on Sunday evening about 6pm with my husband and dog for what we thought would be a nice pub meal. Got a table no problem, despite it being busy with people watching the football. We could only take the dog into non carpeted areas, which is fine. Lovely decor and comfortable surroundings. We ordered drinks then looked at the menu. We had looked on line at the menu but couldn’t find one except on the chain website, which looked fab. The one we looked at on our table was nothing like the one we had seen and didn’t have the same offers. We asked was there a Sunday menu, as stated on the Railway website, but was informed that it’s only 2 Sunday lunches for £13. So we decided on 2 burgers and my husband went to order only to be told that there were no burgers. We ended up finishing our drinks and not ordering any food and ended up elsewhere. Disappointed because we walk past everyday and it looked so inviting, busy and welcoming but it just didn’t deliver.

Visited on Saturday night, the chips I received with both our meals was rock hard inside, obviously wasn’t cooked properly and the peas was black from where they had stuck to the skillet. Brought it to the waitress’ attention who told me ‘she’s told the manager’ I questioned why the manager hadn’t come out herself to speak to us and the waitress said she would get her. The ‘manager’ appeared who claimed she didn’t want to come and speak to me because she wasn’t ready, to be honest no matter how she was dressed I doubt it would have made her attitude any better. She was rude and accused us of lying several times has she had ‘broke a chip in half in the back’ I went on to say her attitude wasn’t coming across great as I have previously worked in hospitality where she Interrupted ‘let me guess for 15 years right’ before walking off. Never in my life have I been treated so disgustingly. Hope everyone sees this review and doesn’t bother to waste there money.

Me and a few mates came down for a few pints to watch the football at this so called pub for them to tell us in our chill clothes that we need to leave at 8 because one of my mates is wearing joggers absolute ridiculous when did so called pubs have dress codes

So it was Boxing Day 2019. Popped in as we had an hour to wait for our train on the ELR, Atmosphere was good and the place was fairly busy, uusually a good sign. After a couple of drinks we chose a cheddar melt and onion sandwich and a cumberland sausage and onion sandwich. Really wished we hadn't ....the onions on both sandwiches were bordering on black and the amount of salad to the side was miniscule. Cheese was non existent ad the sandwiches lacked butter. Very poor. So if you only want a drink and a climb of three flights of stairs to reach the toilet this is the place for you.

Thought try Sunday lunch,bad mistake,choose roast pork loin,obviously pre cooked and warmed up,very dry,hard roast potatoes,semi frozen Yorkshire pudding,splash of gravy,no one checked on me to see if everything was okay,staff more interested in siting with friends,also serving pork,no apple sauce,won't return,shame place had money spent ,looks good but doesn't deliver on food or service

After a special dress shopping morning decided to nip in for lunch before continuing with shopping, ordered food after waiting for a long time asked how much longer it would be a nice young gentleman was very apologetic and said it would be another 10 minutes, 15 minutes later we had finished our drinks so asked him again and if we could have some drinks, he said he would ask his manager which was a miserable looking blonde lady who came over to say your food will be a few minutes no apology or anything, when the food eventually came longer than a few minutes brought by the same lady was told that they were very busy and we should have been told that there was a long wait on food, it was busy when the food came but wasn’t when we walked in. The food was disgusting I had a stale wrap all the food was Luke warm, my daughter couldn’t eat the pasta dish she had and I couldn’t eat mine so took it back, the manager then refunded us the dessert that we did not have time to eat as we had pre ordered it and sandwich without any apology, she had no people or customer service skills.A very disappointing end to what should have been a lovely family day out. Will not return.

I came in not coming from ramsbottom with some friends after going for a meal with friends for a few drinks. We were made so welcome from troy the barman he went through the different gins with us. Fab service definitely be back x

Visited on Sunday and was really pleased with the new look, nicely done up and cosy to sit and have a drink. However the food lets it down still, it was never great for food when we have visited before the refirb but looks like they have kept the same chefs. We only had a soup starter as we only wanted a snack and check if things had improved but was glad this was all we ordered, it was tomato and red pepper soup but it was literally Heinz soup with a red pepper chopped up in it, it was served in a very small bowl with a McDonalds type bun thrown on the side and worst of all cold, so had to send it back to be microwaved.

We have recently eaten lunch & it took an hour to arrive & when it did lasagne was burnt & kicked like had been ready for a while & only when we asked did they go & see where it was & brought it out right away. The ciabatta sandwich was a roll with a bit of cheese & 1 slice of tomato a not what was suggested on the menu. The service was terrible & we had to sit down at a table that was still dirty from the previous waters & cleaned it ourselves. Definitely would not go back there again

This was our first visit since the major refurb, the 're siting of the bar, the decor, and the outdoor space is a big improvement. Albeit probably one of the busiest days in rammy, the blackpudding throwing comp, we found the service very slow, the staff seemed quite young and I didn't see anyone overseeing the situation. My reason for 3 star is purely service related. Prices are on the high side, £1.25 for a small bag of crisps, but worse still we were charged 2 different prices for the exact same round with a £1 extra on the first round. To be honest, we had waited so long and the staff seemed under pressure we left it, I suppose we should have raised it then . My partner is gluten free snd we struggled to see any suitable option on the menu, however, again, it was so busy and queses so long, we didnt explore options with the struggling staff.Lots of plusses but feel with so much competition in the town, tweaks to staffing is needed

Came on a Saturday 14th September- beautiful sunny day. Busy pub, two young bar staff working and a queue yes an actual queue almost out the door.

Visited with two children for lunch. Tables were clean and the pub is very well presented. Service at the bar wasn’t slow as I have noted that other people experienced. In fact, it was one lady’s first day, she was doing a great job and was being well supported by another lady. Both really friendly.

Our first visit since the pub undergone a major refurbishment and it's a big improvement. Sat outside and improved facilities include an outside bar in beer garden. Some booths have a roof which was handy in the rain and also a wall heater , great as evening got cooler. Only negative was very slow to get served at outside bar

Been several times now had the rump the curry and the sea bass today always very good and price's are very reasonable have two hand pumps as I like ale but very good selection of other lagers, ciders and spirits would definitely go again and staff are friendly and officiant

I have been drinking in this establsihment for a good number of years now. The recent refurb makes it look good and I was not surprised to find the price of a pint had gone up. However when I called in the other afternoon I was shocked to be asked £3.70 for a pint of Wainrights, an increase of 30p since the reopening. I was even more amazed at the barstaff's explanation for this sudden increase - it was "to keep out the riff raff". Surely that is up to the management to sort out not hike up the price for the rest of us. Needless to say I won't be back at those prices. I can get a decent pint in one of the local wine bars for 50p less, where you would expect to pay more than a pub.

I’ve been to the railway a few times when the weather has been good and sat out in the great beer garden. However Friday night was like a youth club ! Also 3 bouncers on the door ! I acknowledge that young people need to go somewhere but I feel the railway will go downhill like it has done before with previous managers !

We visited The Railway last Friday when we had friends visiting. We were sat in the beer garden when a blonde woman came out and started telling the staff, using her best outside voice, that there was a ghost in the building and that she needed to alert 'Meg'. She started shouting Meg repeatedly for around 5 minutes before disappearing back inside.
