We used to love a walk to the Prince of Wales for a pint and a bite. Obviously under some temporary management the place has really dived. Messy garden, no tables on the grass and food that was basically inedible. Seemingly off a Brake Brothers mass menu the garlic bread was barely grilled, the pie and mash virtually inedible with gravy in a boat with unidentified stuff floating in it, my wife's jacket potato was green (poisonous) with some supposed pulled pork on top. Fullers completely missing that the pub is now the only one in an affluent area. £30 completely wasted. Won't be returning. Avoid at all costs no wonder empty on a sunny Friday lunchtime.

The new publican at the Prince of Wales, Westcott, Dorking, has just started cooking pub meals. We went for lunch on the first day and were very impressed by the food. Both the lamb shanks and the chicken burger were delicious. The service was great, too!

We took family members for lunch here and were delighted with the cuisine, it was of a high quality that you would expect in more upmarket in better surroundings. The decor was basic as was the furniture. The pub i# badly in need of a new fit out, which would certainly attract more diners. It is a shame because the pub is situated in a lovely set in the Surrey Hills, It begs an uplift ,but in the meantime it needs all the support it can get - for the excellent food.

Despite being the only place to eat out in Westcott, a charming village of over 2,000 people, and having a superb chef, the pub is sadly in need of a makeover. Neglected infrastructure has resulted in a chilly bar area, and a restaurant reminiscent of the 1950s. The publican is a fantastic chef. The menu is excellent and food produced is delicious. The bar staff are friendly and helpful, there is a lovely garden and decking area, plus a large forecourt potential, and excellent parking. It is in a great position to attract people driving past on the A25. This pub could be the heart of the village if only the decor could be more inviting.

Delightful welcome by gentle hosts to a clean and peaceful environment. We chose to eat outside on the comfortable balcony and were served quickly and efficiently by attentive family members. Ate THE most delicious roast pork with perfect vegetables and roast potatoes to die for. Too much food for me, but I still managed to finish the most delicious creme brûlée I have ever eaten. This lovely pub is a must and the family running it are a joy. Long May you be in business. I will return from Bristol again. Thank you for a perfect visit.

Wanted to take advantage of the "Eat out to help out" scheme. The rather haughty young barman told us that it only applies if you have a meal.He maintained that eating in but just with soft drinks and snacks do not qualify.UK government advice states the opposite"This includes soft drinks and/or packaged snacks, as long as they are for immediate consumption on the premises."

Nine of came here for lunch today feeling hungry after our morning walk and received a very friendly warm welcome from the charming staff. There was plenty of choice on the main menu from generous salads through to burgers and a more adventurous specials menu which included dishes such as shark steak with thai stir fry and confit duck leg as well as a Moroccan veggie option. I had the home made chicken pie with extra veg as I didn't want chips. The veg consisted of beautifully cooked broccoli and french beans as well as roasted roots. Wasn't going to have a pudding but succumbed as others ordered and had one scoop of rhubarb sorbet which came prettily presented with a garnish of half a strawberry and a little piece of chocolate wafer. The pub itself is comfortable and attractively decorated and there is an outside decked area where you can eat as well as a small garden beneath where the children can play,The biggest accolade we can give this pub is that we all said that we'll definitely come back soon...

We met up with some old friends and decided to come back to our village where we were first married and set up home and booked to have Sunday Lunch at this establishment. Staff are friendly and welcoming and shortly after we sat down our drinks order was taken and menus given. The choice was very good two of us decided on the Roast Beef, one had Scampi and one had locally sourced Trout. The Roast Beef was delicious, with a rich gravy, roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding but the outstanding point was the vegetables that were also served with this fish, cooked to perfection and this was made obvious by our clean plates at the end of the meal. We all had dessert which again was plenty of choice and when they arrived were nicely presented. We spent just over three hours at lunch, we were not rushed by the staff and the whole experience was very relaxed. Would highly recommend to our friends. Food is freshly cooked, prices are very good both for food and drinks. A little gem in the heart of Westcott village.

Upon entry to this completely empty pub our group of 12 asked where we should sit if we wanted to eat and have some drinks, we were told we couldn't be "accommodated" despite it being 15 minutes before the pub's dinner service had even officially begun (as advertised by the sign in front of the pub), as there "wouldn't be enough food for people tomorrow." About half an hour later after we had left the pub and gone to eat elsewhere, we had one of the English members of our group call the restaurant to make a dinner reservation for a group of the same size (without saying that we were the same group) and were told over the phone that we could be accommodated for dinner that evening...the only difference in the second request being that the barman couldn't see that we were a group of mixed ethnicities and nationalities before he came to his verdict.

Having lived in Dorking for over 30 years I am astonished I have never been inside this pub before. My usual choice of pub was too full, having just done a long walk and feeling hungry we opted to pop into The Prince of Wales; how thrilled we were with our decision. The interior is clean and nicely decorated (and by the way the lavatories were very clean and well appointed which is always a good sign). It was Friday night with a reasonable buzz although not as busy as one would expect. I fully intend to let people know this is a great destination and shall certainly put the word out, and return myself to sample more of the menu. On first glance it appears to be standard pub grub, it doesn't give the impression of being a "gastro pub" and neither does it need to be. My friend and I both ordered salads with a side of chips, when they arrived we realised we should have just ordered one side of chips (a very generous portion of nicely cooked and hot ones at that). The salads were enormous and beautifully presented, everything was fresh with tasty dressings which appeared to be home made and not the usual gloop that comes out of an industrial size catering bottle. As we had sent a message to the kitchen to thank the chef it was very nice to meet Rob who came out to say hello. I so hope Rob stays on for several more years (he said he'd been there for 2 years) as I would love to take other friends there. Truly wonderful with friendly and attentive staff. Oh and plenty of parking at the back.

The place was empty & we wanted to have both food and drinks. No reason was given, no offer was made for alternatives. It was interesting they were unable to accommodate us, and it's also interesting that most of us are not white. We subsequently called to see if they could accommodate a group of our size for dinner. They were happy to have us in an hour. At the end of this experience, I can't help but think our race had something to do with this.

Popped in here on Friday evening for a meal - we chose to eat in the formal dining area out the back of the pub, which has been nicely decorated. There are lovely views to the Surrey Hills.Very friendly service - our waitress could not answer a question about a dish with absolute certainty so she happily went to the kitchen to ask the chef. The food very good quality and tasty.A suggestion to the pub, though - why isn't your standard menu available on your website? We almost didn't visit because we are vegetarians who occasionally eat fish but prefer not to, and I don't like dairy very much - which is a problem in most pubs as you are usually offered goat's cheese, brie or camembert. It was a risk going to a pub without knowing if there would be anything I'd want to order, but luckily there was a spicy bean burger - it was great. And the chips are some of the best I've had in a long time.

In adition to this, the food was average, far away from the fabulous food advertised.Looking nice inside (the only positive thing), but in front of the slide for kids was missing the grill, so full of mud, another way to respect the happy customer who's taking home a kid full of mud. Robert Cornelius and his wife Laurence lived in western France and ran a restaurant there for several years: that French influence is apparent in their menus. They serve delicious food, which is a charming mix of French style with solid British favourites, and cooked by Robert. I came here with a friend as we'd heard good things about it. Upon entering, the decor is shabby chic in its appearance with large arm chairs and solid wood floors. We chose to sit out on the decking as the sun was shining. I chose pork belly roast dinner for my main, as did my friend. It arrived quickly and the plate was lovely and hot. The portion size was good, and the food was cooked well. For me, it was down slightly by mismatched cheap cutlery and one paper napkin each. These little touches would bring this pub up to a better standard, which it does deserve. The meal was around £11 so from a cost perspective it was definitely good value. For pudding I chose to have a banoffee pie. It was presented in a glass, which I thought was quite unusual. I would have preferred to have seen an individual portion of banoffee pie rather than a deconstructed version. The chef hasn't showed off any skill, and I'm sure that given the quality of the main, and my friends pudding (home made pavlova) there is definitely the potential for that! Otherwise, a good overall meal at The Prince of Wales, and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Visited on Saturday night for a group dinner (of about 25) and we had pre ordered our menu choices.I had duck pâtè to start (huge portion!) And the beef stew for main which was delicious. For dessert I had the chocolate brownie (my favourite) which had warm gooey chocolate running through it!Very good food, excellent service and very reasonably priced!

I lead a walk for the U3A arranged with the landlord to use car park whilst we walked I had estimated about 8 people coming for lunch. However far more turned up and there were double the number with16 of us at once wanting lunch. The food was good and the staff were very obliging. I was very impressed and thankful to them for accommodation us. Next time we walk from the pub we will pre order lunch.

We (three of us) did the Sunday roasts: all were excellent - plenty of it, very well (as in excellently) cooked and served well. Service was good and the atmosphere very friendly. There are 2 menus (look carefully): the pub's own and the Fullers standard menu. Our observation was food from the forner looked by far the better (and the roasts are). Very good puddings, also from the "own" menu. Good beer. All round, very nice, but not world-beating!!

Went on Sunday as heard the roasts here were good and wasn't disappointed. There's a lovely eating area out back. Had the roast pork which was delicious. Service was a tiny bit slow at times but didn't impact the overall enjoyment of the experience. Will definitely be back.

We ate breakfast and dinner here several times while visiting Dorking. They have the most courteous staff. Food was delicious. Atmosphere, delightful. A not to be missed pub!

Rob & Laurence could not have been more accommodating. This is truly an English pub as you would expect - warm and inviting. The food was fantastic - I recommend the duck! The bar was well stocked with pints of ales and beers. All of the staff provided terrific service

I decided to take my family to my local pub for Sunday lunch. Usually I only pop-in in the evenings, so I didn't know the staff who were on the lunch shift. The waiter who greeted us was very friendly and attentive.I decided on the roast pork and my wife the beef. Roasts for me are one of the best ways to determine how good or bad a chef really is. A good roast is beyond compare and a bad one can really ruin your experience. To be honest, this was the best roast pork I have had in Surrey and my wife's beef wasn't far behind. The helpings were generous with ample roast potatoes crackling. If you're in the area make sure you visit this local gem.

Met up with friends and our kids last night. Nice drink on the terrace catching the last of the sun whilst the kids played in the enclosed garden. All our dinners were lovely good home cooking and nice desserts too. Staff friendly and helpful. Will visit again.

We have lunched here a couple of times recently when walking on the downs. .Every meal has been very enjoyable, the vegetarian options too. The garden is a little noisy on the main road.

Popped in on the off chance they were still serving lunch. We were seated quickly, and ordered off the main menu. Food was delivered quickly, and was quite tasty. It was all a bit processed - the chicken goujons were obviously frozen, then popped in the fryer, but were tasty never the less. A friendly local pub.

I was here on a Thursday for lunch and was alone the entire time I was there . The beers are good, the food also, the staff friendly and the pub comfortable. There were three pubs in Westcott once upon a time and one is a restaurant, the other a wine bar leaving just this one . People need to make sure it survives.

We had our Christmas day lunch here and the food was fantastic. I could not fault anything. Absolutely superb! We love this pub!, they do the best roast dinners in dorking and have a greatselection of beers and ales.It is very family friendly, we always take our 4 year old with us and she is made to feel very welcome. They do a great children's menu, smaller portions from the main menu.

Yes there is a real touch of French chic going on in this welcoming pub which emanates from the Landlady. If you like your food to be fabulously edible then try out this place. Flavour and style on a plate. And just a hint of cool music in the background, with comfy chairs to rest in after a bracing walk in the beautiful Surrey Hills. My advice...go before the secret gets out and the Price of Wales get too busy.

We booked a table here for Sunday lunch after seeing good reviews, and were not disappointed. The roast beef and lamb were both nicely cooked and flavoursome, as were the roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and other accompaniments. The food arrived promptly, portions were generous and service was both friendly and attentive - nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The ambiance in the restaurant was also very pleasant. Well worth a return visit!

I nipped in recently for an evening pint on the way home. First time there and the welcome was warm. Nice bag of onion crisps. I asked to see the menu saying I might not be eating there that evening to gauge their reaction. They understood completely and brought the menu with a smile as well as topping up with a half pint where I was sitting. How refreshing and I will certainly return. Nothing was too much trouble.

Been here several times for drinks and food since Rob and Laurence took over. Wasn't expecting a Fullers pub to deliver much. However, have been quite blown away by the quality of the food - good quality produce cooked to perfection (scallops a particular favourite). Nice decor, friendly staff and good value for money. It's great to have two good places to eat and drink in Westcott and long may this continue.

We were in Wescott on business for a few days and found the PoW within walking distance from where we were staying. We enjoyed two evening meals there. The food, though somewhat basic, was extremely good and well prepared. The new owners were both friendly and accommodating and we wish them every success in their new venture. Highly recommended.

We are here today with our family. The new landlords have made a complete transformation. The food was great, really imaginative and tasty. Children could have anything on the menu, in a smaller size- which they loved. Bar staff very helpful and attentive. Recommended if you are looking for good food, good surroundings- and a nice garden!Wishing the new owners every success.

Hopefully this excellent coffee lounge will re-open soon. Visited just before the lockdown and had an excellent lunch in the sunny garden room. The staff were very friendly; the food was of high quality, well prepared and the prices were reasonable. It's well worth a visit, as it is home to a very large, fine quality antiques centre. We spent at least an hour browsing and purchased some silver (there is a wonderful selection of genuine silver and objet's d'art here). Dorking remains an old-fashioned market town and this tea-room is a gem.

What an excellent family friendly pub with fantastic food, it was the best roast I have had in years. Going anywhere with an autistic child can be hard but the staff couldn’t do enough for us and made such an effort to make us feel welcome and at ease. The food was not only of an excellent quality, the beef melted on your mouth but the portion size was very generous as well. It was so cheap for what you got and was one of the best value meals I have ever had for the quality and size.

Fantastic service, sadly my husband had some of the blue label in his wine which went un noticed until we mentioned it and I had a large bone in a small fillet of seabass. There was no apology, just a response from thr head chef of oh, that sometimes happens. This made me feel that we were there at their behest, not enjoying a relaxed Anniversary celebration as was intended. The waitress referred to my husband and I as guys which wasnt appreciated. Some incredibly odd food pairings of black garlic in a petit four and castel blue cheese and German sausage on a plate of Highland venison. It is the most beautiful building but I have enjoyed better tasting food in other locations. Sadly not for me, an8d I am classically trained in food cookery.

Went to the garden house for lunch. So beautiful and atmospheric, everybody was really welcoming and Phillipa was especially lovely, taking good care of us and informing us of the menu and specialities of the day. The beef ragu was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was a great treat! Definitely worth it.
