Been here a few times and lately the service has got quicker. Lovely clean place , food and drink reasonable. And love the garden seating at the back some undercover with heating and child friendly at the front with a small playground. Also a huge shoutout to Cheryl who never lets us down with her friendly nature and always being on the ball making sure that everyone has great service with a smile.

For u, one of those little gems you accidently find. Having been out for the day we looked here for somewhere local to where we were. A few had to be booked so we called to check. We don't know who answered the phone but this was what decided to try the restaurant - no stale, monotoned responses on this occasion. The restaurant itself is a lovely place and clean. The staff were friendly and approachable from the onset. We were served by Bobbi-Lee and Ellie who were fantastic. Even when the restaurant got busier, they still had time to chat and have a laugh and we were made to feel like we mattered (unlike some places where you're just a table number). The food was lovely - steak cooked to perfection (I have a daughter who is fussy about her steak but was delighted with it). Even the sweet potato fries were great and the deserts were lush! The only nit-picking thing was the mushroom on the dinner - either overcooked or left on the hot plate so it was rubbery. Very minor, still ate it and it certainly didn't detract away from the the meal. Overall, a perfect ending to a great day. Thank you Bobbie-Lee and Ellie (and the chef). This restaurant is definitely on our radar and I have no qualms about recommending it.

Just popped in for a quick drink after a visit to DFS. Lovely lady greeted us at receotion. Follow all covid rules with masks, arrows, one way entry exit. Looked really nice place. Too cold too stay longer. Roll in May 17th. Like to know why its called poppy fields tho if any history.

Very disappointed with the services, highly don’t recommend. Lazy and rude staff start to finish. Dessert took 45 minutes to come, turns out they hadn’t even started it, when asking for a refund we was told that they couldn’t and we would have to go to head office. Incredibly rude and unwelcoming women on shift and a man that shouted from across the garden when dealing the the complaint because “he couldn’t be asked to walk all the way over”. Won’t be returning which is a big shame!

Decided to take my mum and two young children for lunch today, as they have the play area and wished now I hadn’t bothered. The lady greeting at the entrance was very rude and made us feel very uncomfortable with a queue behind. Had to put up with the moaning there were only two staff on and expect a long wait. How this is a professional manner I don’t know! The play area had glass in it which was highly dangerous, as was the gate which seemed faulty. Now on to the food, which was awful. Taste wise, felt like all the food had been cooked from frozen and done in a microwave. Avoid and save your money!!

Food was awful maybe we were just unlucky. The rotisserie chicken was off ! My son had a pie which he said wasn’t too bad but the veg looked awful. I had a salad with chicken. The chicken was dry and had obviously been warmed up in a microwave, it was completely dried up and the salad consisted of an awful lot of lettuce a few tomatoes with no taste and some cucumber and red onion totally uninspired. We had halloumi fries to start which I didn’t finish no taste at all and the tomato salsa accompaniment was weird. The staff were very good and you cannot blame them for the food but we will not be returning.

Came in with my family today for a sunday roast and sweets. All food and drink was lovely however was very disappointed in the management here. I over heard the manger “cheryl” as i believe, speaking to her staff like children, with no respect. Absolutely disgusted with her attitude, don’t understand why staff would put up with this, i certainly wouldn’t !

We did not have a table booked but on arrival the lovely Cheryl was at the front, she said it wasn’t a problem and sat us down on a spacious table. Cheryl made us feel very welcome and couldn’t of been more accommodating, she took our order of drinks and told us to take our time ordering the food. The food was very nice apart from my sons chips that was a little on the cold side, Cheryl came to the rescue and sorted it out, nothing was too much trouble for her.I would of given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the chips, The best experience of the night is the way Cheryl treated us, she gave 110% attention to us and we appreciate it, what ever salary she is on should be doubled and is a credit to the company. The other staff members should be more like her and to show our gratitude we left a generous tip.Cheryl you’re the best and the Fields couldn’t be without you !

(Firstly I should point out that we visited 19th August during the eat out scheme, which could have had a negative effect on the experience due to additional stress on staff)We made a booking, unfortunately when we arrived at we found that our table had been given away to a walk-in, and we were led back through the restaurant to the entrance to wait whilst they figured out where else to put us. We were then seated on a table that was cleaned in front of us with one (literally one) quick wipe of a cloth, without a drinks order being taken, and then did not have our drinks order (or anything else) taken for 40 minutes. Waitress seemed to be in a world of her own, we tried to get her attention multiple times. Table next to us were sat with dirty plates for this same time. Both they and us had to get up to find somebody to get service in the end. Once we had placed orders everything was quick and the food was nice, although it was placed on the table very quickly and then the waiter walked away before we could ask for any salt, pepper or sauce (as all currently not on the table due to Covid regulations which is understandable) and we were again left trying to get somebody’s attention, which we ultimately gave up on and just finished our meal so we could pay and leave. Again trying to get somebody’s attention for the bill took a long time. Should point out that at one point my partner did get up to go to the bar to try and expedite these waits throughout, but was told to stay at the table.

The staff was very helpful and was willing not to have a tip over receiving a review. Considering these staff members aren't paid a lot and rely on tips I give Cheryl top marks. Keep up with the good job and apologies I didn't have much change for a tip. The food was alright and we wasn't left waiting around for too long.

We had lunch there, lovely starter (fried halloumi cheese with tomato salsa), as main 1/2 rotisserie chicken, which was nice, had it with the Hunter's sauce, a jacket potato, but unfortunately the coleslaw was rather bland with dry old cabbage, quite unappealing. My wife's veggie burger was dry and tasted like plastic, chips were ok, my son enjoyed sausages and chips and he usually loves peas, but the ones served here were massively undercooked and simply inedible I'm afraid. Dessert made up for it a bit, melt in the middle chocolate pud with double cream and Bramley Apple pie with custard. In summary it was ok, but nothing to write home about, and we certainly won't be coming back. On the plus side, staff was very friendly.

Came here for dinner on the eat out to help out and I found they where very safe when it came to covid-19 I was shown to a clean empty table that I saw that had been freshly wiped down by a member off staff they explained all precautions they are taking like no ordering at the bar and the track and trace I felt very safe the menu was limited due to the pandemic but I found they kept many of the tasty options I had enjoyed before lockdown and found all the staff members helpful and insightful to all the covid-19 measurements overall I highly recommend this place and if you want to eat out and still feel safe then go down to the poppy-fields.

Tables allocated and not 2m distance between customers on one table to the next table, no screens between those tables. Staff stand next to you, above you talk down at you and bend down talking to you with less than 1m distance. They don't wear visors and go from one table to another. I bet they collect the plates and glasses from table and deliver your food and drink to your table without washing their hands. They don't give a toss about the virus. Menu is limited and boring.

We're eating out to help out. Service was a bit slow. Starters took 45 mins, mains just under the hour. Some meals were excellent, others not do much.My crispy chicken coupons with crispy onion rings were not crispy, very soggy, speckled with black and disappointing. It was cheap after the Chancellor helped out but not good value at full price. Not up to the usual standard.

Where do I start.. I’m not normally a complainer but felt this was too important.. firstly all staff are following guidelines of covid no one in either masks or face shields and they are serving customers food.. the tables outside were all disgustingly filthy, we asked for it to be sanitized but nobody came, their one way system is a joke criss crossing over.. felt that staff could do with some training in customer relations as I got the impression it was all too much for the staff.. all in all please avoid the poppy fields if ur lucky enough to avoid getting covid then watch out for the food poising

Went for lunch with my best friend and her daughter. BIG MISTAKE! Awful service, food and wasps/flies EVERYWHERE. Seated outside as all was “booked” but restaurant was actually empty throughout the visit. Food all over the floor outdoors that then attracted wasps... when we alerted staff members to this health and safety issue, staff were rude and refused to clean it up. To have half eaten food all over the floor during the corona virus pandemic is disgusting and truly shows that management have no idea what they are doing!!Ordered ribs and they came greasy and looked microwaved. Antiseptic wipes were placed IN THE SAUCE so the sauce then tasted of antiseptic wipes??? Truly the worst restaurant experience I have EVER EVER had.

We have eaten here many times before but this is the first time I feel I have needed to complain .Firstly after being seated we waited 25 mins before anyone came and took our drinks order which came wrong ,We then had to wait another 20 minutes before our food order was taken We both ordered the steak meal one well done and one medium rare When they came out one was well done and one was burnt and both looked like kids meals and also the mushroom was burnt to a crisp .Also we spent more time knocking flies away from the table while we was eating and when we asked for the bill we was not given the receipt we was just told the amount we had to pay and to top it all off it was so hot inside that everyone was complaining even the staff

Good service today when we popped in for a light lunch and a pint. I would recommend the contactless payment option is adjusted so that tips may be added. I stopped carrying cash when Coronavirus changed how we conduct business and couldn’t leave something behind for the team. Other than that, all good.

I went to Poppy fields last week on the 28th and what I witnessed was awful . The manager I believe her name is Cheryl was talking to the young staff like something she stepped in . I don’t think this is acceptable as the young person was working their backside off. I mentioned to the manager Cheryl that she should be ashamed of the way she talks to her staff! The staff member was running around and apologised for the delay in getting our food out . It’s not a great way to show a family when they’re visiting with their families! Cheryl you need to go on a personality and customer service course . You do not represent Marstons in a good way! Feel free to contact me .

Wow ! I can't believe the way that one of the managers spoke to a member of staff. The barman was pulling a pint of Guinness and was debating on how long to leave it to settle. The manager then screwed her face up and asked "did you not read what I put up out the back " and then continued to moan and point out to this barman how he should know how to pull a pint of Guinness. It wasn't very busy in there but the atmosphere that this woman had created, no people management skills and utterly disrespectful towards her staff ! Loving the blue and pink hair that some staff have got though and food was lovely !

We arrived to such a lovely looking pub, luckily we had booked a table, we arrived to see the pub wasn’t busy , only a few in the garden. We walked to the reception area where a lady (who I assume is in charge) Said “hand sanitiser on the side” so we used it and walked forward, she then said can I help you ? I said oh we have a table booked at 4, she said ok come with me , was literally the most un warming welcoming I’ve ever had, we sat at the table and was told you can’t go to bar you have to stay seated and someone will take your order. We sat there and all we heard was other customers being moaned at for coming in to the building , told off for going to the bar to get drinks , many people turned away because they said they were busy and all tables booked when we only saw 6 people inside at tables , one lady came in to say she had waited 25 minutes and no one had offered her a drink and the lady in charge said she had to sit at her table , the lady said again that it had happened last week when she was in there and theLady in charge said “if you arnt happy then please leave” . I waited 20 minutes before someone came over to ask if I wanted another drink , again only 4 people were in the restaurant so wasn’t busy , I was to scared to ask someone for a drink . A group of men came in and they asked to have a drink and the lady again moaned at them because they hadn’t waited outside , she then told them if they aren’t happy they know what to do . I was shocked about the customer service , it was terrible , someone who is front of house should be warming and happy to see you , we felt like we was asking to much just to get a drink. We could understand if she was under pressure being busy but it was so quiet. Shame really as food was lovely and pipingHot and served quickly

Where can I start.4 of us visited and was seated straight away, bearding in mind there was probably 2 or 3 tables including us and about 5 members of staff, the service was the worsts I’ve ever received. The staff was prancing about and laughing amongst their own conversations. We was told it was table service only and not once did anyone come to our table unless we shouted for them and struggled to get there attention and was told to wait by a girl at the bar who was chatting to her colleague. Food wasn’t very nice 3 out of 4 of us didn’t eat it all as it was dry and flavourless. Not once throughout our meal did anyone come over and ask how we was or to see if we would like anything else. Food came out quickly and the steak was very nice, the young blonde boy who served us was very polite and when we explained we had been given no cutlery, drinks or salt and pepper he went to sort it straight away, we could not find him after for tip. When we went outside every time we ordered drinks we didn’t receive them for 20 minutes or more! and it was not even busy?!! Really not impressed.

Attended for lunch. Way too many regulations in place. Signs everywhere totally confusing, have to register - why? You don’t register in the supermarket where you are much nearer people than you ever would be here.Not allowed to approach the bar so rely on table service. After my first drink I didn’t get an offer of another for 70 minutes. Virtually thrown it by a waitress who clearly didn’t want to be working. Handed salt on a tray and told to take it off the tray and the tray would be collected - laughable.Pubs have it hard with these regulations but a trip into west Malling or aylesford will show that you can still run a pub perfectly safely without making people feel like naughty schoolchildren.Sadly the hospitality sector will learn that people won’t put up with this as it’s simply not enjoyable and instead choose pubs that have more sensible and proportionate regulations in place. As I write this one group being reprimanded for daring to enter the porch without permission, another querying why his group of workmates are being treated like they have the plague and another being told off for a minor infringement of the odd one way system. It’s supposed to be enjoyable!! If the staff are this fearful they shouldn’t open.Sad to see it like this.

This review is 5 stars due to our server Katie, she was friendly, professional and checked back on us regularly. The only issue we did have is when working the bill out it is a bit confusing with the sunday lunch menu option, I think it could be a bit clearer. Thank you, we shall definitely be back

Menu very misleading- asked when we arrived if everything was in the Sunday best and was told yes. When we got the bill everything was charged separately. Queried It and told it was taken off at the bottom. Got home, drinks were charged at different prices! And still Children’s meals charged individually instead of a meal deal. I’m not a skinflint but was told it was a new waiter when I rang and complained! Am I supposed to query this every time I go to dinner ?!!! Very misleading and disappointing as I spent over £100!

Myself and a friend fancied a couple of beers on the way home from work so we stopped in the Poppyfields. We was served by a lady called Jade who we have seen on many occasion, she poured our pints and to be honest they was dreadful with a head on them that would be a credit to the Christmas Island statues. We didn’t say anything as she seemed to be more interested in the new assistant manager laughing and joking with him. On buying a 2nd round the same happed again, my friend pointed out that the beers was a bit short, she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. We are not expecting a beer levelled to the top of the glass and some head is the norm, but when it’s nearly a quarter of a pint it then starts to be a short measure thus being ripped off in money terms. We have had this problem in the past and mentioned it, but obviously it falls on deaf ears or maybe the staff have been told to do this to save money ? As a customer I do not like being cheated and the diners eating would not stand for it and have the right to complain and get some compensation for the shortfall. It seems in this place if you’re a drinker you are fair game and not treated the same as a eating customer. Hence why no drinkers go in there of a evening anymore. Potential late trade custom not walking though the door because not feeling welcomed and being short changed. We will stay away now as I’m afraid of confrontation and all we want is a descent pint and somewhere to relax and chill. If can’t accommodate regulars could you please take down the signage “pub” and leave restaurant. A lot of locals are not happy.

It was a spur of the moment Thursday lunch and The Poppy Fields was not busy when we arrived.We waited a good few minutes before someone showed up and took us to a table.After another few minutes the waitress asked us if we would like a drink while we looked at the menu so we ordered some.We looked at the menu in some detail and waited for our drinks and for our food order to be taken.Whilst we were waiting, to pass the time, I decided to look at Trip Advisor and found that there were numerous reviews highlighting the poor service and also the poor food.After more than 20 minutes our drinks finally arrived. If it took 20 minutes to deliver two simple drinks, we thought food could take all day so we decided to cut our losses, pay for the drinks and leave.We felt sorry for the waitress, it looked as though she was the only one working the whole restaurant.No point in returning.

First of all the food was lovely, can’t fault that, which is why I’ve not rated a 2. The staff are polite but very unprofessional. I went to the bar to order food and the guy serving was very quick and rushed because he was more interested in talking to his colleague who’s boyfriend had threatened him for flirting with her! Then when we sat down I could see a girl eating in the kitchen as she was dishing food up! She saw me looking but that didn’t stop her from eating the food she was dishing up haha. Staff obviously aren’t fed here... The guy was back bringing out our food and had cloths because the plates were hot but instead of placing the hot plates in front of the right person he just put them on the table and expected us to move them! They were very hot, which I am not complaining about, but we just had to push them little by little to avoid burning. The desserts we wanted were out of stock and a more professional woman dealt with this but when we chose different desserts we had to ask for the refund on the difference rather than this being offered. It’s just a lot of small things that need brushing up on which I feel managers need to be aware of to avoid further negative experiences. Hope this helps and look forward to coming back to receive a more pleasurable customer service :) x

Came for Sunday dinner and then service was appalling. The wait to order and the wait for food was absolutely ridiculous. After 2hours 15mins we still hadn’t been asked if we wanted desserts. Then; after waiting even longer I had to cancel them and ask for the bill. Shockingly; even a simple request to print a bill we had to wait even longer and request it for a second time!

Booked a table of 11 on a Thursday evening. We were shown to our table to find the chairs were covered in stains and the table was sticky. We sat for about 20 mins before drinks were ordered then 10 mins after ordered food. Our starters arrived 50 mins after we sat down and our drinks arrived just before starters. Mains arrived an hour later. We struggled to find cutlery and napkins on both courses. Food was mediocre. Another hour later desserts arrived. One of our party found a bit of plastic in his crumble and we found out that the kitchen had used vegan ice cream to replace what was supposed to be vanilla, no explanation... what if we had an allergy? After ordering our last round of drinks one of our party felt that his beer had been tampered with.

We had heard good reports of this venue so yesterday (11/1/20) booked for a 20:30 sitting for 6. On arrival to a large car park the restaurant is situated on the A20 so easily found. access into the building is flat with very good disabled access.The restaurant was not busy. Staff friendly and professional we ordered drinks separately and was not expensive, good menu choice two had cod and chips two had a mixed grill and I had a change from from my normal Rump to sirloin, the other meal wass BBQ spare ribs, I must be honest here they were no different from the £2.99 spare ribs we have bought many times from Lidle and Aldi so we were a little disappointed, apart from that the meals tasted excellent, and good portion and arrived in good time, non of us ordered a starter as we all prefer desserts. As for the desserts I had a ice cream sundae which was delicious 2 had sponges and one had apple pie all with custard all again tasted lovely one had the apple crumble, which they found to be a bit bitter so asked for some sugar to sweeten it but this did not work so some of it was left otherwise it was ok, but all commented about the small amount of custard that came in a very small jugs which you normally you see for milk for tea, so I think they could as I have often found larger quantity of custard at other restaurants, All said, we did thoroughly enjoyed the meals and would highly recommend it and would return without hesitation the meal came to just under £100 for 6 which did included a further order of a couple of drinks which was put on the bill Service was quick friendly and efficient

I am so pleased I didn't read the reviews before booking lunch at The Poppy fields, as they may have put me off going. First of all the staff were lovely and made all of us feel welcome. They accommodated my father who is in a wheelchair and we were all comfortable. Food arrived in good time and was hot and tasty. My vegetable mash wasn't great but I chose not to send it back and actually once I poured the gravy on it tasted OK. The chicken was fantastic. There were 5 of us and everyone enjoyed their food. We chose not to have desserts but only because we were full. I will definitely visit again.

We went on a Tuesday night for a family meal. The service was extremely slow and the food was average quality. Chicken was dry and by admission of the staff the rotisserie chicken had been cooked in the oven. In their defence they did not charge us for that meal. It started with poor service at the bar on arrival. The meal was the most appalling food I’ve had out in a very long time. Overcooked and as much as I like gravey the meal was swimming. I guess this was to hide the quality and presention. A booking for 20 people and pre ordered food. Not enough to give guests their order for main course and the dessert had several choices not available. The vegetarian option on the main course, also pre ordered several months ago not available. Abysmal experience;appalling service. This was a Christmas meal booked about 3 months in advance for a party of about 20 & despite this they did not have half the requested choices. Not even enough turkey at Christmas ! Many deserts not available. I felt apologies were half hearted from staff who were probably fed up themselves & resigned to the poor service they were giving.The wait was horrendous , initially to get the first course (about an hour) & then the rest of the courses. One particular barman I can only describe as obnoxious; the bar was not very busy at this point; ordered a soft drink, & he then went off to chat to his mates at the other end of the bar; forgot all about me; I made eye contact 2 or 3 times & he still didn’t return ; I reminded him but he made no comment, no apology, no smile; slammed the bottle on to the bar counter ; no offer of a glass or ice or lemon ; & put his hand out for the money silently without telling me how much it was, which I then asked & he grumpily told me. Appalling behaviour. This “ restaurant” does not know the meaning of “customer service”. I shall never visit there again, not even for a drink, & I will be telling my friends the same thing. Awful.

Having booked an early table for my Dad, Mum in Law, Daughter and myself at 12.30, we were stunned to be kept standing at the door for a good 10 minutes after arrival before being seated (even the guests behind us in the queue got seated first!). After ordering fairly quickly (as we could see the restaurant had several parties in progress), our starter did not arrive for an hour! The main arrived about 15 minutes after we had finished the starter! My daughter was on a very tight lunch schedule and when I made the booking, there was a note that we only had the table for '2 hours maximum' - what a cheek! I cannot fault the few staff that were on duty, nor the food (even though there was a main ingredient not available for my double cheese/bacon burger - no bacon!) Being kept waiting for this amount of time is wholly unacceptable, even at peak times. You were seriously understaffed and many of the tables around us were making complaints to the poor staff. This is a major problem at any time for an establishment which accepts bookings and does not live up to the supposed reputation that is boasted on the website. As mentioned, the staff were doing the best they could - the poor waiting staff from the kitchen were very young indeed and subjected to a lot of comments about the waiting times. I shall be watching comments on your FB page and Trip Advisor to see if you are improving before we decide to return.

Visited poppy fields on the 16th December with three friends. We placed an order for four lunches at 1.45. At 3 o’clock we asked the bar staff if our meals would be coming soon. Shortly after waiting an hour and twenty minutes three meals arrived. So we then had to ask what happened to the other meal. The reply was sorry we missed it, we then had to wait for the fourth meal. I then wrote an email complaining and got a reply backing simply saying we were busy and hope you come back. So if you want a long lunch go to poppy fields.
