Yes the menu has changed, but there's still plenty of good quality meals to choose from. Food is still amazing.

Ignore the reviews saying bad things about this pub, we visited here and it was lovely, the new management have really made this pub back to being the best in the area again, warm friendly service, food great value and reasonably priced, will be back again soon

I stopped off here whilst visiting family in Newcastle. The pub was very clean and the staff were very attentive. We both ordered food from the menu, and the service, staff and food were great. We will definitely pop by here again. Thanks for a great first visit

Lovely lunch, had hunters chicken baguette with chips, great value for the price, and a couple of drinks with friends, staff very helpful and pleasant, will be back soon 😀 They also so have good daily deals

Would give zero stars if I could. New menu awful, especially the Sunday dinner. I have been a regular visitor for 20 plus years and have to say that the place has gone down hill. Such a shame. The White Swan and Sorella Sorella for me now.

Come here every few months as we visit family. The manager is great and you can always have a laugh with him! Lovely atmosphere and really friendly team!

Absolutely terrible meal there today! Genuinely don't think I've had a worse meal. Visited here several times previously and always been happy with the quality, taste and portion sizes, however hadn't been since September last year. Really disappointed at changed menu! I'd been craving the chicken curry but no longer on the menu, and my partner always has the cajun chicken and steak but also no longer on the menu. Disappointed but we thought we would be satisfied with an alternative. Sadly, the sirloin steak I had was literally inedible. So tough, fibrous and chewy to the point I didn't want to swallow it for fear of choking! Chips bland, two tiny onion rings ,a few button mushrooms however no peas served as stated on menu. Partner had the 'mega mixed grill' which was equally terrible, all meats were bland, tough and cold.Final cherry on the cake were the over cooked fried eggs which had the added bonus of a hair in! I hate complaining when eating out, so didn't bother bringing these issues to attention of server as it's not their fault and just couldn't be bothered with any hassle and embarrassment. Brought uneaten meats back in napkins for the dogs as they'll eat anything and hate waste! Won't be back. Such a shame as used to be a safe bet for a decent meal.

Fab pub , love friendly staff, and a good selection of delicious food

Despite reading and hearing bad things from other people about the changes to the menu food and prices and apparently rude staff but the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly I can honestly say that when my husband and I visited there on Valentines night we thought it would be really busy but it wasn’t, we were shown to our table and then after looking at the menu went to the bar to order our food and drinks the food was absolutely delicious I had a Prawn Cocktail and my husband had Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork which was hot then I had the Steak Americano upgraded to Sirloin which was amazing and my husband had Sirloin Steak which he thoroughly enjoyed, when we went to order desserts we were told of the specials they had so I had the Lemon Tart and my husband had the Banoffee Tart we will definitely be going there again in the near future.

La hemos visitado con bastante regularidad durante muchos años. Siempre ha estado muy ocupado y con bastante frecuencia hemos tenido que esperar una mesa. Por esta razón llamamos por teléfono para hacer una reserva el lunes pasado, ya que íbamos a llevar a nuestra hija y nieto para su cumpleaños. ¡Qué risa! Cuando llegamos el restaurante estaba totalmente desierto excepto para nosotros mismos y permaneció así hasta que nos fuimos! Sentimos como si nos hubieran dejado en el Mary Celeste! ¡La comida lo explicó todo! El aumento considerable de los precios no habría sido un problema si el tamaño de las porciones y la calidad de los alimentos hubieran permanecido invariables. Tristemente no lo han hecho. No fue una velada agradable y francamente nos dio vergüenza que habíamos llevado a nuestra hija allí para su cena de cumpleaños.

Portion sizes are tiny. Hunters chicken is not a chicken breast as stated on menu its probably the size of a budgies breast. Wont be returning! Also the ice cream tasted sour.

Visited here on 02/01/25 and wont be returning, Portion sizes are abysmal. We all ordered hunters chicken and it wasn't even chicken breast as stated, it was so small we were all starving afterwards.😡

We had heard the pub had changed owners. We have visited for the past 6 years on a Boxing day as a large family group of 20 ish. Mainly due to super friendly staff, cosy ambience and good food. Today was 'just ok'. Chips weren't freshly cooked, making them hard. The rump steak was not as good as it has been in the past. What a shame current owners aren't reaching the standards of previous owners. I think this must also be the thinking of others, as the pub was relatively empty, where in past years it has been full of families and laughter. Think after today's visit we may have just ended a family tradition.

Sunday lunch today was abysmal. Tasty beef but tough! Spoonful of gravy and £1 for more. Roast potatoes were actually new potatoes and stuffing ball appeared shop bought. At nearly £14 it was very very disappointing and the room itself was freezing cold as we're the plates the meal was served upon. Certainly won't visit for food again especially on a Sunday.

Returned last night for the first time since new menu brought in. Yes things have had to change and yes some favourites taken off including mine! but we all still enjoyed our meals and the chips and portion size still remain the same homemade and huge! Great service with attentive staff as usual.

Was there last night for a birthday party and first time with new Menu. Food was great as usual still real chips smaller menu but still full of favourites. Staff great prices brilliant.

A nice enough local pub with friendly service and tasty food for a fair price, plus happy hour beers mid-week! What more could you ask for really, worth a trip!

This used to be one of my favourite places to eat, real comfort homely food . Went couple of months ago and wasn't great but thought maybe a one off, went today, order 5 meals and drinks spent £120 3 meals came really cold , when mentioned to staff, he was quite argumentative in front of my child with autism or I'd have definitely responded Said he would speak to chef and offered us a drink baring in mind 3 of us were drinking water , we declined , he said well it is what it is ,nothing I can do and walked off. Won't be going back and would advise anyone to avoid it (also on leaving my youngest needed the loo which were dirty and had no hot water at all. Capped off so only cold water to wash hands

We were a party of 13 and we were all very happy with the food! It was absolutely delicious and the service was fast and friendly! The atmosphere was great, with a live singer who was really good! Price was for 3 courses plus drinks, so I would say pretty reasonable! I would definitely recommend this place!

For some reason they have changed the menu chefs pie is gone replaced by a much smaller version.no boiled potatoes or carrots.the burger was a disgracewha

Been for breakfast with Santa. I had the classic breakfast with poached eggs. I was happy with portion but the food was cold the sausage was hard and the bacon over done. Santa was fantastic really enthusiastic and great with the kids!

Bar amable y personal de camarero como siempre y un buen ambiente. Tuve el filete de solomillo, cocinado exactamente como se pidió, de gran calidad y acompañamientos perfectos. Como siempre las patatas fritas caseras eran perfectas. No podía fallar nada en absoluto. Mi marido tenía el especial que eran las salchichas y el puré, es un conocedor de salchichas y dijo que estaban deliciosos! Para cualquiera que mire comentarios negativos, ignórelos y pruébelo usted mismo, ¡no le decepcionará!

Solo tenía que visitar después de que me enteré del nuevo menú! No había necesidad de entrar en pánico, ¡sigue siendo la misma gran comida con papas fritas cortadas a mano reales! La elección del menú se redujo, pero no de una manera decepcionante, era claramente una calidad sobre la cantidad menú y todavía tiene algo para todos. Comí pastel de pollo y champiñones con patatas fritas, guisantes y salsa y fue una de las mejores comidas que he comido en un bar gastronómico. Todavía gran tamaño de porción y muy asequible, buena relación calidad-precio. El personal de espera es tan increíble como siempre Becca se destacó muy atento y amable, el servicio al cliente es tan bueno por todo el personal como siempre.

I know menu has changed and owners had to get brewery to help them out. People tend to forget how much owners have done for charity, the pleasant staff and atmosphere. Yes the menu has changed but surely there is something on there for everyone. Covid really destroyed small businesses, so instead of being so negative maybe supporting businesses like these would be a nice pay back. Thank you to the owners for all there charity work.

Changed catering. Not up to usual standard. Have gone for years for freshly cooked Sunday lunch. Was very disappointed. But staff still very helpful

Menu has changed, very disappointed. Been coming here for years and won’t be returning. Charging extra for chips now with certain dishes. Shame as it was a nice place to eat! There Chilli was delicious to be change to a vegetable Chilli.

Alough the staff are exeptinal and a nice friendly pub a after coming here years for delicious food sad to say the food menue has changed what was once a delicious steak pie has now turned into a rock bun pie chips were awful really disappointed and don't think we will be back to taste more of this disappointing menue

Chicken tikka worse than Wetherspoon and I preferred Sainsbury masala much better. Very poor

Lovely surroundings staffed by polite and helpful young staff who happily attended to all additional requests for my disabled service user without any hesitation. Excellent light bite options and from the other food I could see in the room, a fantastic main menu too. We look forward to going back soon.

Reservamos el almuerzo del domingo para una celebración familiar en octubre. Toda la experiencia no fue lo que esperábamos, con una serie de colas y largas esperas que no hicieron que pasara un tiempo relajante. A la llegada a las 11. 55 am para una reserva de 12 del mediodía, nos dimos cuenta de la larga cola que se extiende desde la puerta hasta el aparcamiento. ¡Qué extraño que la gente estuviera haciendo cola bajo el viento y la lluvia en lugar de esperar en sus coches! ¡Ay, estas eran las astutas que sabían cómo funciona! Nos unimos a la cola cuando las puertas se abrieron a las 12 y se nos mostró a nuestra mesa a las 12. 05 pm. Después de echar un vistazo muy rápido al menú fuimos a pedir comida al bar a las 12. 10 pm. No llegamos al frente de la cola del bar hasta las 12. 25 pm. Después de ordenar y pagar, estaba de vuelta a nuestras mesas para esperar por la comida que finalmente se sirvió a la 1. 10 pm. 70 minutos después de nuestra reserva y exactamente una hora después de que tratamos de ordenar. Para cuando llegó nuestra comida, algunos de los clientes astutos/habituales antes mencionados habían terminado dos platos y abandonado las instalaciones. Así que realmente vale la pena pararse bajo el viento y la lluvia para acercarse a la parte delantera de la carga a la barra para ordenar. Cuando llegaron los alimentos recibieron críticas mixtas de nuestro partido - el consenso general es que era bastante promedio, pero esto era quizás lo que se podía esperar dados los precios relativamente baratos. Fue decepcionante que el pub no tiene salsa de rábano picante para acompañar las cenas de carne asada - nos pareció bastante extraño. Vale la pena decir que el pub estaba muy ocupado, así que claramente sirve bien a su mercado. Pero pasar una hora de almuerzo el domingo en varias colas y soportar largas esperas en la mesa, especialmente con niños pequeños hambrientos para entretenerse, no era lo que teníamos en mente. También - nos dijeron a la llegada que teníamos que desalojar la mesa antes de las 2 pm. Para cuando todos terminamos nuestros almuerzos no había tiempo suficiente para considerar un desierto.

Always love the food from here, seems very traditional and home cooked, none of the frozen veg, always greeted and lovely staff, quite quick with food.

Pretty grubby tired pub in need of some brightening up. Staff need a bit of training, I came back to the bar having just picked up a glass of red wine having noticed a huge lipstick stain on my glass. The barmaid without apology took my glass and poured the wine into a fresh glass and handed it back! I told her I didn't want the wine and asked for a fresh one as its been in a dirty glass. She couldn't quite grasp why she should do this until one of her colleagues told her to ditch it and pour a fresh one.

Amazing place with amazing staff and out of this world food not expensive aswell the specials that aren't on the menu are amazing and change daily I had the mighty burger that was 18oz of meat with chips and salad for only £12! They also have great bands on occasional Saturday nights and a live acoustic singer every Sunday!

Amazing food. Had the chilli loaded nachos for starter. Loaded with cheese , and chicken Tikka for main. Food was so nice and filling..proper home cooked food

Food is delicious my favourite is dumplings. They are huge and soft. Prices are very reasonable. Waiting time is a bit too long sometimes

Este hotel está situado en la localidad de Callerton, a las afueras de Newcastle. Un aparcamiento de buen tamaño con algunas bahías para discapacitados. Fácil acceso para los usuarios de sillas de ruedas. Baños para discapacitados. En el menú hay opciones vegetarianas y veganas también sin gluten. El personal es muy bien informado y sería capaz de discutir y aconsejar. Hay dos opciones sin alcohol, Guiness cero y Peroni. Pedimos una comida del menú principal, yo tenía el picadillo y los dumlings con verdura y patatas nuevas, muy bien cocinados con los dumplings suaves y sabrosos. Mi mejor mitad tenía los scampi con patatas fritas guisantes y zanahorias. Había media libra de scampi. Dos comidas muy buenas disfrutadas. Estoy deseando volver a visitar este interesante lugar.

Generally I like the place but the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. Last time I was there the mince and dumplings were served in a small bowl on the plate itself, clearly recently reheated in a microwave. By the time you decanted the dumplings, the portion of mince I was left with was minescule. The dumplings themselves don't appear to contain any suet it seems, the last few occassions I had it they were dry and unpleasant. Used to get cracking meals every time, now it seems like it's pot luck. Another thing, there's always smokers at the entrance, they should be stopped and moved elsewhere.

Disappointed with service, there wasn't any. I no the food was brought to the table but every time we wanted to order we had to go to the bar and pay individually after every course and for drinks. There was four of ys and we just felt that we couldn't get settled. Up for starters, up for main and up for dessert and of course fir drinks. We don't think we'll be back.

Great meal here today. Superb location, hidden gem. Try it out guys!

Haven't been for a long time as it was great when I used to deliver here ,good food piping hot ,tasty & big portions will definitely be back ,I had the burger & the wife had the scampi with onion rings ( lots of them) plus pepper corn sauce very tasty well done the poachers cottage 👏🏼

Worst meal I have ever had. Scampi, chips and garden peas. Very well presented BUT, peas were stone cold, although condiments were available on the table, a LOT of salt was on the chips so could not eat them, they were also limp and lukewarm. Now to the scampi. I have never, ever had scampi where I could not even get a fork in to spear it. Rock hard outside and tried only 1, which I scooped up. I could not crunch it easily so ended up bringing home for the dogs to play with. Did not have a sweet as next table had ice cream, which, although a large portion, was very soft and runny. They ended up leaving it too. 2 adults went, only charged for 1 meal which also included a pudding which we did not have. Appalling meal.

Have just left about an hour ago and have to say what a let down. First off our food took a lengthy wait which I can understand if busy...it wasn't..this was about 12.10...then when all 3 meals arrived 2 of them were freezing ..the veg all cold not even luke warm . Terrible as for the 3rd it was a sandwich so expected to be cold. Then we sat and waited for a waitress to come and ask if everything was OK which she had done for the other 4 tables but no we were never asked. £47 pounds on three meals and to say it was bad is an understatement avoid if you like hot food as you will not get it here. It gets a one from len ...avoid ...try the percy over walbottle instead ...the food is hotter but only problem is there isn't enough variety on their menu..but it will be hotter...it couldn't get colder than here that's for sure. !!!!Also would like to add woman who owns or runs this place got onto me about half hour after. She was not happy that I had posted also never once did she mention refunds or anything...not that I wanted but sometimes you have to take criticism to get better and this place deserved it...I'm not the only one that found this lady with a bit of a temperament....you have been warned .

Fantastic pub, the food is excellent & the staff are lovely.

Great food and service . Sundays do have a limited menu, settled for mince and dumplings which was amazing came out piping hot. Really needs WiFi as signal is terrible as loation is hidden in the middle if nowhere.

Food is decent enough, good selection of draught beers, ales and gin varieties. Could just do with 10% extra effort in the housekeeping stakes, clearing of tables etc. Left just a little too long for 5 stars.

I've never had a problem here with food before but I came on Sunday 7th April for a Roast dinner and I won't be back for more. Completely tasteless, carrots especially bland, turnip lumpy, roast potatoes tasted fried, new potatoes a bit hard, cabbage watery and gravy not good. So disappointed as had Sunday lunch here a few times in the past and was lovely. Such a shame, don't know if there's a new chef but they need to get it sorted before they lose their regular customers.

On my doorstep but never been before. Was definitely worth the visit. It has to be the best value for money pub in the local area. Had a Halloumi starter which was lovely and very tasty. Had black and blue burger for main. Good portion sizes. Burger very tasty. Although I enjoyed the chips, usually I'd have less of them but chunkier. I can't fault the staff friendliness. Drink prices also very reasonable in the current climate. I will definitely visit again.

Food absolutely beautiful,, presentation fantastic,big portions,,and amazing homemade chips,not frozen,my steak cooked t perfection,asked for medium ,, fantastic t get the old fashioned surf,turf(steak, scampi) staff incredibly friendly, especially dark haired young girl behind the bar,only it could do with a little spruce up, modernizing,,love the basket in the toilet with little toiletries, loved idea,used the body spray x

Mid week visit. Very busy all be it with students. It didn't take away from the vib of a busy pub.
