Couple of visits recently for lunch and cocktails. The lunch deal is such good value, and great quality food. Cocktails are reasonably priced. Very friendly staff

Absolutely stunning restaurant just on entry. The way everything looks and feels is amazing. The service was fantastic, lovely servers extremely friendly and helpful with the few questions we had. Food. Absolutely outstanding. The simplistic flavours mixed with the more complex sauces works so incredibly well. They offer meals for those with dietary restrictions as well such as Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan. Gorgeous 110% recommend this place to anyone.

First time I’ve been here and I will definitely be back. Lovely restaurant, love the wooden decor. Plenty to choose from in the menu, I had the pan fried sea bass which I would definitely recommend. Nice selection of drinks, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. Prices were reasonable for it being in the city centre. Scarlett was the girl who served us, she was extremely friendly and polite. Nothing was a bother for her.

Emily and Molly were great!! They catered for out every need and were so kind and helpful! They kept checking in that we had a drink, and were very efficient - thank you.

We called in for lunch today with our little dog. The staff were all so welcoming and directed us to the dog friendly seating area. We tried the lunch kebabs and they were delicious and very reasonably priced. My husband had the chicken ones and I went for the tofu. We will definitely be back.

Servers was Scarlett. She was amazing. Really friendly and lovely service. I would recommend to family and friends

Went to the botanist for a birthday meal with my partner, the place itself is beautiful, especially the multicoloured glass hanging shade as you initially walk in, the food was beautiful, however, the service was horrendously slow, we Went on a Wednesday night after booking our table, waited 10+ minutes to be seated (wouldn't of been an issue if they were busy but they weren't) and not to mention the service was incredibly slow too. Shame as it's a lovely venue.

Hi. Extremely disappointed in experience this afternoon. Our server was great- Jacob. However our drinks too soo long, we were almost finished our meal. Then we were asked to give our table back- booked 2- 3.30. At 3pm!!! One our, hadn't even finished our second drinks. Very disappointing 😞

Went for a Bottomless brunch. Food was fine but service was very slow. Sat without drinks a number of times.Won't be going again.

We sat in the restaurant part, next to a window overlooking grey street. The food was tasty. We had the bottomless lunch option The service could have been faster to avoid gaps in the drinks refill.

After looking forward to eating here for the first time, the experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, we stood for nearly 5 minutes before someone eventually came over, only to inform us our booking was 15 minutes later, not the time we were told. We got to our table and our food orders and drinks , we with us promptly. The person who we were told was looking after us was nowhere to be seen. I eventually stopped a passing waitress to ask if we could have the dessert menu. After around 10 minutes, our table was still full of empty plates, and glasses, when I asked another passing waitress, would she be so kind to clear our table, as there would be nowhere to put our desserts. The look she gave me was of "why you asking me I'm busy with another table" at 20 mins since we ordered deserts, they had not been delivered to our table. I politely asked for our bill, checked to see if the deserts we hadn't had were on the bill, they were. I had the bill corrected and was then told there would be a 10% service charge. For what ? The service was non existing and shocking. I asked them to remove it. Food was delicious, but a very rushed, experience. I don't mind when food is on the expensive side, but it has to have great service too. Will never eat here again.

Lovely atmosphere, love the tree inside. Can get busy but has decent happy hour (wish it was over weekends too as we'd stay here a lot longer!). Lovely staff and nice outside rooftop bit 😊

Service appalling. Desserts never arrived. Had to ask twice for table to be cleared, which waitress did not like. Toilets disgusting. Poor food and portion size

This is without doubt my favourite bar in Newcastle. The atmosphere is simply enchanting, and the selection of delicious and varied drinks is impressive - often served in unusual glasses, which makes them even more special. The food is also excellent and the service is characterised by its warmth. I can highly recommend this restaurant!

Definitely need more bar staff on a Saturday afternoon. Only 2 people serving and waited almost 15 minutes to get a drink. Lovely setting and atmosphere was good

Came here for my birthday, I booked the table with a note it was my birthday and to my surprise the table just looked like an ordinary table. I was excited because I saw by previous reviews that they put a sign, I didn’t get anything. Sounds like a little but it would have really made me happy as only 2 people showed up.

Superb restaurant. The staff is very friendly and patient with people who do not speak English well. The cocktails and dishes are delicious, no waiting. The setting is out of the ordinary.

A food and drink place in a good location and with a very interesting interior design. There is enough space. The food is delicious and the selection of drinks is rich. The price-quality ratio is right.

Disappointing experience today. Service was very slow (no tables available in the restaurant (all were reserved) so we had to sit in the bar. The queue for the bar was very long (about 3 bartenders all with individual queues). Music was very loud making it hard to communicate with bartenders and to have conversations. A very uncomfortable atmosphere with smoke and loud noise. Food came out quick and was tasty. Service could be improved as we had to seek out a waiter to get plates and sauces for our kebabs.

Great team night out, party of 11 were very well looked after by Emily and the team during our visit. All food was delicious and well presented. The karaoke bingo was a welcome surprise, wish we had been seated closer to be able to take part. The decor is also absolutely stunning. Loved the spiral staircase and roof garden. Photo opportunities aplenty if that's your vibe. My first Botanist visit, look forward to trying out the other venues across the UK.

We recently dined at this fantastic restaurant that left a lasting impression. The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere was lovely and we were fortunate to be seated at a table overlooking the Monument, offering splendid views of the city centre. The environment was beautiful, and the extensive selection of food and drinks added to the delightful experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking quality food in a charming setting.

Great atmosphere, but service very slow. No point using the QR code app on the table. At least 30 minutes wait - much quicker to queue at the bar....

Sent burger back without touching it. Girl serving asked how I knew burger was bad without trying it ( rustlers burger > botanist) £16.75 for the privilege …Got a kebab to replace it which was distinctly average also. 2 friends were also bitterly disappointed.

Visited here as staying overnight in Newcastle whilst visiting our son Myself and husband both had the chicken kebabs which were really good. My son had the small steak which he said was very tasty but portion size quite small Overall the food is very good but you pay for the venue and the name Lovely to say we have visited the Botanist and to be fair the food was good but there are just as good venues with much cheaper prices

I went to the Botanist with my friends for my friends Kristólfur Gimli 50th birthday party. First of all the food was great but my friend Valur was not happy with our seating. He wanted us to be seated upstairs but not possible. But the atmosphere, food and drinks were great!

Beautiful place to go, it is expensive but it’s beautiful. I would 100% recommend. They have a roof terrace where you can overlook monument. Staff are friendly and super chill and the restaurant itself is quite nice will say though that you have to walk up three flights of stairs to get into the restaurant itself

Ordered a berry colada and there was 3 dead flys within the drink, asked for the drink to be remade, just to get the second drink also having bugs in the drink :(

Went for Valentine’s day and we were served by Scarlett and she was so lovely. She noticed we didn’t have our drinks while we were eating g our started and got them straight away!

Really nice place Great service, lots of choice. Drinks are relatively expensive but your paying for flamboyant drinks so it's not that bad.

2x Hanging Kebabs 1x hummus starter 2 x pints and a service charge =£55 about the going rate for dining out in Newcastle now even if you went to the pop up crap in Eldon Square food everywhere is So overpriced. Food was tasty and plentiful still not sure about the hummus being served in a Troul, just put it in a bowl.

Food was tasty . Only problem was the price and size of the portions. Overpriced Burger and a few chips . Wife's hanging chicken kebab again small for what you received

We went to the Botanist, last night for food and drinks. The service was good, attentive and friendly and the cocktails delish! Sadly the food was very poor. We opted for the Beef Sunday roast. The meat was a rump cut and was dry, hard to cut and very chewy, we left most of it. Such a shame as the veggies were tasty. It was luke warm and the impression we got was the chef had left and a server was neuking it in the microwave. We shared a dessert and sticky toffee pudding which was barely warm. The botanist is renowned for good food but sadly we won’t be back for eats, as it’s over priced for the quality we got. Such a disappointment.

Seemed understaffed tonight. Waited quite a while to be seated & had to go find someone. Once seated waited a good 15 mins for 2 drinks. When food came they gave me the wrong type of chips & forgot the onion rings. The steak was lovely & cooked perfectly. Overall a little disappointed but, won't stop me going again.

I have visited The Botanist before for a few beers (not the best selection hence the 4 stars.. better beer selection would o made it a 5 star). But not for food until a meet up with my sister for a late lunch n av gotta say the food (whilst yes it was expensive) was absolutely tremendous so much so I went for a bottle of Red wine which complimented the steak (which was cooked medium rare n just the way I like it) perfectly. Will I return? If the chance arises.. yes

I loved the central location in Newcastle's city center and the building itself is amazing. Inside, there's a stunning glass ceiling that makes you feel like you're in a giant, chic birdcage. The vibe and atmosphere are fantastic, and the service is friendly and attentive. However, the food was disappointing—bland and mediocre overall. I would have loved a bit more vegetarian options as well. The only highlight for me was the hot cookie dough dessert, which I had never tried before and absolutely loved, addictive. Come here for the unique ambiance and vibes, but not for a memorable culinary experience.

The botanist is a great venue for drinks and food. It upmarket and they have spent time making the venue look great. There is often live music in the evenings. Great place give it a visit.

Wouldn't return for another meal, but I would certainly consider coming back for drinks. Despite how busy it was the staff were always friendly and helpful.

In the past I have reviewed this location to be 4-5 star. However, our experience on 29th November was terrible and unacceptable. Food was mediocre, service was good around the bar area, but the person in charge of restaurant front desk was rude, negative and effectively spoilt the evening. the lady who served us was ok, but they were all unnecessarily stiff about where to offer seating for guests. Although Turkey hanging kebabs were advertised in a pre-arrival marketing email, the item was not available for order unless you were ordering festive menu. Shame, as other restaurants like Zizzi for example has hanging kebabs in their menu. Over all, the experience was off-putting, and we will think twice before returning here. There is enough choice around Newcastle to be bothered with the rude supervisor.

1st visit to this place for a xmas party meal, we collectively pre-ordered our meals. We anticipated our food coming relatively quickly once we were sat. We waited atleast an hour for our starters, which there was only a small amount of the party getting. After roughly 45 minutes wait, the party leader asked for an update on the main course, 10 minutes went by and we failed to get an answer, so she asked again and got the same response, after waiting anither 15-20 minutes on top of that, the mains eventually turned up. The food was really nice. However the service was sub-par at best unfortunately. Definitely room for improvement.

Very disappointed, despite being a frequent visitor, particularly for Sunday lunch. Went to today for live music and roast and no live music. Nothing on website to advise and in-fact when I asked at the bar the guy didn’t have a clue, I had to ask him to go ask someone, which was an inconvenience for him. Minimal staff interaction or genuine customer service. I’d say most didn’t want to be there or interact with customers, which is such a shame. Asked to speak to manager to give feedback who was super defensive and interjected every time I gave some feedback. Resulted in a generic ‘sorry about that’ and a flat 20% refund without asking me what would make it right. When I asked why no live music was told only on Saturdays in January. Suggested maybe it would be good to put that on the website and was told that’s a ‘head office’ thing. Overall really disappointed, and despite the 20% refund I’m still leaving unhappy as it’s not just about the discount but the overall way it’s handled. There is more here that could be said but I’ve tried to limit it to this.

First time eating at The Botanist and it did not disappoint, we will definitely be back.

We visited for my boyfriends birthday meal, they went above and beyond to make it an amazing experience! I'd mentioned in the special request that it was his birthday and asked if we could have a window seat, not only did we have a window seat but they'd left a birthday message for him on the table! The food was incredible as always (the kebabs are amazing) and the service we received from all staff, in particular from our server Joe, was outstanding! Will definitely visit again!

Spent New Year’s Eve at The Botanist in Newcastle, and it was amazing! Live music, dancing, and great drinks – the vibe was unreal. The place looked stunning, and the crowd made it even better. Such a fun way to kick off the new year!

came here for christmas night out. We pre ordered our meals weeks prior. We waited 15 mins for a table that was already booked. Genuinely waited about 1 hour 45 mins for food, understand that there was a lot of meals but considering we pre ordered, we assumed this would be a lot better. on top of this, drinks as simple as a bottle of coke took 10-15 mins to arrive. Food was very mid, definitely not worth the extortionate prices. Overall, very poor experience. wouldn’t return or recommend.

Very nice restaurant, really a hidden gem in the center. Unfortunately we couldn't go straight away as it is very popular so always make a reservation! The music is very loud, making it difficult to hear each other

Festive hanging kebab cold veg served with it really hot. Waited ages.

It was absolutely amazing. The hanging kebab was bomb and the dessert smashed! Great service as well, indulged our preferences and gave us tips on nice places to take pictures. Had starter, main meal and dessert plus wine and water for a steal.

Lovely cocktails in a gorgeous setting. Live piano singer made the vibe and atmosphere very indulgent. Loved it!

Whilst attending a Christmas get-together, my party and I arrived early and were told by front of house staff that our table would be delayed by 15 minutes due to the prior guests. Once seated, our server was amazing and couldn't be faulted. We each had a hanging kebab and were not disappointed. Unfortunately, we were asked to leave our table another 15 minutes early to accommodate incoming guests despite many tables being vacant, meaning our 90-minute slot was cut to a rushed 60 minute dining experience.

Booked Christmas meal for 6. Three of the reordered meals where seabass on parmesan new potatoes, these arrived without the potatoes. When we pointed this out we eventually received a bowl each of potatoes. We had finished our fish by the time these arrived and they were the ordinary potatoes that were being served with the other meals. The waitress then gave us a bottle of wine as recompense, we did not want any more to drink and two of the diners affected were not drinking wine, this was clearly just their standard response. We complained about this and they did eventually deduct an amount from the bill. However, insult was really added to injury when another waitress quite curtly asked us to vacate our table as it was only booked until 8. When we told her that it was booked until 9 she told us that we were wrong, (a quick check of the booking on a phone proved we were not). Very disappointed, given the not insignificant price we paid. Will not be back.

Work team Christmas meal last week, very disappointed. We pre ordered from a set menu, as we were quite a large group (15 or so) the food arrived and most of it was wrong. None of the steaks were cooked to our liking (after pre ordering days before), it appeared they had been pre cooked and left, meaning none of them were rare/medium rare. Chips were hard and not fully cooked. Starters were all over the place, giving a group of 5 people the sharer starter for 2. Staff very blunt with colleagues when anything was said about the food. Very poor and not what we expected but still had a good night afterwards. Unfortunately, we will look elsewhere for our work events.

Such a lovely location for drinks, always looks gorgeous lit up on a night and it’s truly so magical inside! Love siting on the balcony in the sunshine having a nice cocktail with friends

We had a large group and went for the set menu for £40 a head for the Christmas menu I thought it would be something special. The best part was the family sharing starters, these were some of the same on the standard menu. The mains were the Christmas hanging kebab. Cold, dry and dull. It was not enjoyable whatsoever, if you want a roast just go on the Sunday. That is way better. The dessert was sticky toffee pudding, This was neither here nor there. The venue was obnoxiously loud, we waited 20 minutes to be seated at our table for 8pm because the venue was overbooked. I've been to this venue twice in the last fortnight once mid week where it was not even a quarter as busy as it was on a weekend and service time for a lime soda was still 25 minutes + Im definitely not rushing back here anytime soon

We came here for a work's evening out. The food was very good and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Chicken katsu curry was good.

Rude staff! Arrived early for a drink, I was told you can sit anywhere. We made our way to the empty top floor. We just sat down enjoying our drink and we were told sorry we have to move downstairs as they are using the tables for diners. Ok off we go. We sit downstairs in the half empty room, another member of staff asked us to move again. This table is for diners. At this point I’m getting annoyed. I ask hey if I can stay until you need the table, the bar area is busy there is no seats. No no no a manger sends us packing! Cheers for spoiling a quiet drink. Oh and the tables were both still empty when we left! Use your common sense people. We won’t be back

After entering, we marveled at the beautiful bar, the tree above it and the very high ceiling topped with light garlands that gave the feeling of a starry sky. We went upstairs and spent some time in the outdoor area of ​​the establishment overlooking Newcastle's night center with its beautifully lit Christmas market. We had our favorite IPU and enjoyed the night rush. I highly recommend ❤️

Been a long time since I’ve visited the botanist after being a former employee and really glad to hear it’s still doing so well. Great food and drinks and excellent service from Scarlett, will make another visit much sooner!

We waited 40 minutes before any body took our order only after I had to go up and ask Then our meat and Yorkshire pudding came 48 min after asking did the veg came we had eaten the meat as it was going cold spoilt the experience my Grandaughter birthday no apology given straight there with the bill ?? I phoned later to speak with manger just said I know it was not good send us a email 😡😡😡😡 would not advise any one to use this place

Great atmosphere and service but the food was disappointing. Chips and pitta were overcooked. £110 for four adults on shared starter and a poor main. Not again.

It's good, the atmosphere is good, it's original. But the service is a bit slow, don't be in a hurry. We stayed for more than 2 hours to eat 1 dish and a dessert, and that was at the beginning of everything, that there were not many people

Although the surroundings, service and staff were good; sorry to say the food was mediocre at best for the price. The kebabs look impressive but really had very little meat on them. The fries and pitta with the kebabs were bland and the pitta was very hard. My sea bass was ok ( skin not crispy) but the roasted new potatoes were under cooked and barely warm. An expensive mistake choosing to eat here.

Pre booked a table, waited for table to be cleaned, which was very efficient. But this was the only efficient thing of my visit. Waited 20mins then found a staff member and asked for a colleague to take our order, a member of staff came over, who was abrupt and I felt put out as we requested to be served. We then waited a further 15mins and no drinks had arrived, so unfortunately we walked out, informing the desk to cancel our order and explained our frustration. There was tables to the side of us and behind all either canceling order's or speaking about never going back. We have ate at the botanist many times, on busier Saturdays and on match days the service we received was diabolical, and we.will not be returning.

Sunderland was excellent but not happy at the Newcastle Botanist! I would have complained normally but I was with 6 other guests, 1 of which has a son who is a manager of A Botanist elsewhere. I had Katsu chicken which was way overdone ! This should never be served that way.
