The Plough is a great community pub, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is great … but, the prices are high! £30 for a roast dinner, it was lovely but I’ve never paid £30 for a roast anywhere else, and have eaten at some nice local places at the same standard! There is the option for £35 to include a starter or a pudding but didn’t fancy this Will be back, but not for the pricey Sunday menu!

Another disappointing meal at The Plough,West Hanney,a community pub that offers little or nothing to the locals and long suffering investors who have supported this venture. The burgers no longer have high ranking, the pizzas are cold and unappealing ,the vegetarian options are extremely limited and rarely available, service is both average and slow. The menu offers a few new options, but fails to fulfil expectations.

I ate here twice over two weekend (once for lunch and once for Sunday lunch); i try and choose independent/small chain pubs over big chains every time and the Plough certainly satisfies. Its a community pub with a great team of staff; the food quality and service is excellent and both the lunch and the sunday lunch were good quality. The wait service staff knew their stuff and were friendly and welcome to an 'outside' and i really enjoyed the ambience of the pub. The sunday lunch isnt cheap (35 ph), but was well worth it. Id pay as much in a city centre chain and it wouldtn have been served, presented or be as high in quality. Ill certaibnly be back when visiting in the area .. i just hope that too many positive reviews dowsnet mean they are always fully booked when i want to visit!

This is a very traditional country pub with a great feel and atmosphere . Landlord Owain and his team are extremely welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Great service serving a really good range of delicious food. Great starters to share from charcuterie to an Indian street food bread. Lovely pork belly bites and more. Burgers, steaks, mussels, fish and chips, pizzas, chicken, risotto there is a great variety of dishes for everyone to enjoy. I didn’t partake , but the puds look pretty good too. My whole group of ten for a birthday celebration were very impressed with everything from start to finish . The covered and heated outdoor space was perfect for a big group. We had my very young grandson with us and the staff went above and beyond to help by warming his milk etc . It is not surprising why this is a very popular village pub. They also serve HB Traunstein Helles on draft, which is one of Bavarias if not the worlds finest lagers Thank you for a great value and enjoyable birthday afternoon

A very pleasant good quality meal. Not criticisms but just observations, The choice of mains quite limited, those available were as you would expect in a pub restaurant. We especially enjoyed the large chips and the chocolate mousse and the cinder toffee. My wife had the burger which she said was very nice but not the best as it was missing some salad maybe? I had the beer battered fish and chips and peas, as I said the chips were excellent. My wife had the cheese board which she enjoyed, but would have liked maybe a grape or a celery stick? My sweet of chocolate mousse and cinder toffee was excellent Would definitely go back again

I moved to Wantage a year ago. The food offer in the village are desperate and hence exploring out. The Plough came highly recommended and hence giving it a pop. Appealing village pub which admirably caters for both locals and diners. On the bar, there are three or four decent ales available, some of which are from local breweries. The food is of exceptional quality, but with a price to match. I opted for the pan fried sea bream which was very good although, at £27, was certainly not cheap. It was accompanied by a seafood cassoulet which was also good although not too generous in terms of portion size. I was not too convinced by the 'shoe string potatoes' which made up the third and final element of the dish; personally I think they would have done better by just serving it with standard chips. At least these would have filled out the plate a bit more. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Overall a pub which is well worth a visit, but be prepared to spend perhaps more than you would normally for a pub lunch.

A relaxing Boxing Day experience. Front of house was friendly and professional, no hassle experienced over the unavoidably late show of one diner and helpful explanation of the vegan options available to another. Food was delicious, reasonably priced, and service prompt, especially considering how deservedly busy they were.

Christmas lunch was so so good. Expertly cooked; the warm duck salad and my wife’s deep fried goats cheese starters were perfect, the roast turkey with a crispy skin and all the trimmings main couldn’t have been better and then followed by the Christmas Pudding for me and the spiced poached apple for the wife to round the meal off perfectly. We had an excellent table and we were so well looked after by the front of house team. Mid week lunches are always good and this special one was simply amazing. Thanks Owain, Luke and your team.

Staff very welcoming and attentive with a good selection of beers and ales- quite a few locally brewed. We had a roast and shared a sticky toffee pudding. Wow what can I say the food was amazing and I finished wanting to eat it all again- (not because I wasn’t full but just because it tasted so good). The pork melted in your mouth but also had very crispy crackling. The apple sauce was creamy and complimented it very well. It was also lovely to have the addition of beetroot and parsnip. I would highly recommend the plough and we will be back for sure on a Sunday and on another day to try other food on the menu. Make sure you book! Also felt very secure with good covid regulations.

Smallish village pub which has been modestly modernised and still retains a good village atmosphere. Although I have visited the Plough previously, this is not a pub I know well, but I understand it has had its problems in the recent past, so it is good to see that it is back on track again. There were three ales on offer at the time of my visit, all from smaller independent breweries, some local, but I opted for an excellent pint of Weetwood Oregon Pale (from Cheshire). From the fairly straightforward menu I chose the Pie of the Day, which was Chicken & Chorizo. This turned out to be an exceptionally well crafted pie, packed with meat and delicious, served with greens and chips and a jug of gravy; well worth the wait - service is friendly but not the quickest here.

Staying in the area on a business trip and wanting to eat away from the hotel. It was a bit of trek in pitch darkness. Well worth it though. Great food and you couldn't be made to feel more welcome by Nick and Trish the landlords. Also Nick does a great selection of local ales that he changes regularly. I would recommend to anyone.

Thai green chicken curry with rice for six friends was not on the menu but the friendly new chef cooked it for us all. We had good service in this friendly community pub.

The pub is under new management and the welcome could not have been warmer. Nick and Trish have already made a great impression on the place - and there was a bustling, friendly atmosphere.

Jardín trasero era agradable y no estaba lleno.

I refuse to use this place as the owners obviously have no pride in the look of the place. Rubbish piled up near the entrance. I took the photo on a good day, usually it’s much worse than this. How do the customers not consider this an eyesore, unbelievable.

We had a very enjoyable birthday lunch here. However, it seems unsure whether it is a restaurant or a gastropub. Food quality and presentation were up to the standard of a high quality restaurant. So were the prices! The staff were very professsional (and we noticed that they close once a week for staff training). However, it still looks and feels like a pub, with a bar, wooden seating, no tablecloths, casually dressed staff, and they neded one or two more staff both in the kitchen and serving. They should either put in place the finishing touches for it to be a fine restaurant, or dial down a bit, particularly on prices, and present it as a really good gastropub.

I wanted a sandwich. Didn’t arrive for over 2 hours because one of your drivers didn’t want to do his job. I want a full refund. I don’t want to use your awful service again after this. I was trying to cancel my order well over an hour ago. But no.

The Merry Miller offers a delightful carvery experience, combining excellent food with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The carvery station is well-organized, with a generous selection of tender meats, fresh vegetables, and hearty sides. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring you feel right at home. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, the Merry Miller’s carvery service never disappoints.
