The chef here really knows what he's doing. Lunch today was just gorgeous! Every course was delicious and cooked to perfection. We all agreed that the chips were the best we've ever tasted (we're quite fussy about our chips and avoid anywhere that doesn't serve home-made) so that was impressive. A lovely choice of dishes on the main menu and specials board. Can't wait to return when we're back in the area. Well done The Plough!

For a pub next to the wye valley brewery this could be a great opportunity for business however, the Barman was put out on our arrival just like he couldn’t be bothered to serve us . The beer was nice but the chips were soggy and re- heated I won’t be visiting again. This was meant to be a nice walk and a drink at the end but our day has been ruined by this customer service and poor food

We were new to the area and were looking for somewhere for dinner. This pub was recommended by many people on trip advisor and it did not disappoint. It ticked the boxes for our party on all accounts. The menu was varied, the portions were very generous and everyone said the food was delicious. The service was excellent. We did not have to wait long for our food and all ten of us were served at the same time. They catered well for our special diets (vegetarian and gluten free) and access was good for one of our party who has impaired mobility. We were extremely happy with our evening out. It was good value for money and provided a warm and friendly atmosphere. If we are ever in the area again we will revisit this pub.

Whilst staying in West Lodge,Air B n B in nearby Bromyard,we booked to eat at The Plough,Stoke Lacy last Friday evening. On arrival we were warmly greeted and shown through to our reserved table. I felt compelled to write a review to send our compliments regarding the meals we all had.Every single Starter and Main Course chosen by our party was of the highest quality and presented beautifully. The Battered Black Pudding, served with a Poached Egg,chosen by myself I thought was just a 'taste sensation',and my Main Course, the Chicken Breast stuffed with soft Cheese and Bacon, served in a most delicious creamy Sauce, again was just an amazingly tasty creation. All of our party commented just how delicious the entire meal was,and after speaking to the Chef I felt obliged to write a praiseworthy review on here. To anyone local or visiting the area I cannot recommend highly enough this friendly eatery that we were so lucky to find. Our thanks again to all at The Plough, please give yourselves a pat-on-the-back for your Service and Quality of food.We will return if we are ever in the area again.

We visited for an anniversary dinner, attracted by what looked like a more adventurous menu than normal for pubs in the area. Let’s give the place its due: service was professional, the vegetables were beautifully cooked and our drinks were really delicious. But let’s cut to the chase: portion size was out of control. Our first mistake was ordering the plough platter as a starter - it would have served as a main meal for two. Tasty enough, but very deep-fried and filling. Our mains, again, were acceptably flavoured but a little over cooked and again mahoosive…. And flooded with sauce! The place was rather characterless too - I think I’m being a little harsh giving it 2 stars rather than 3, but the occasion was special, expectations were high - and it all fell a bit flat. Halving the portion sizes would be a good move and make the business more profitable - it deserves to thrive and I hope it does!

Went here for a nice evening meal. Used the website contact form to ask about dogs and to book. Fast response, and it appears half of the pub is allowed dogs, other half not, making it good for those Who don’t want furry friends amongst them as well as dog owners. Was met on arrival by a very friendly lady. Decent menu choice, can recommend the garlic mushrooms as a starter. Most starters can be made into mains if you wish. Had steak for main and was cooked to perfection. Good portion size and well worth the money. All food is cooked fresh and you can tell, so don’t expect to be in and out in 20 mins but worth the wait. Local beer was nice, I assume it was from the brewery next door. Car park is small, but you can park on the brewery car park. If we were here longer would definitely come back again. Definitely book before you want to come to avoid disappointment.

Never have my family and myself walked into somewhere and be greeted with a scowling face. The man was so grumpy and rude. On enquiring about the different beers, he was most unhelpful and normally you would expect to be offered a taster..not on this occasion. The barrel needed changing on one of the local beers so off he marched off muttering under his breath and then I heard him shouting expletives in the 'barrel room'! Most unprofessional. Finally we got our pints which at best were not that great. They looked like dishwasher and no head on it whatsoever. Having tried the same beer in a pub in Bromyard the day before, I knew that this barman clearly had no idea or inclination on pulling a good pint. We enquired about the pool table but got a blunt, "it is not being used as we have had a function on." At the same time we were informed that there was no food on either. The pub was completely empty and we for one will never return. The barman should be stripped of both his duty and bartender license. Utter disgrace to the hospitality industry. Vile experience.

Beer was good, but he decided to close half an hour early, when we would have stayed and had another round of twelve drinks. The room was a featureless box with a TV, and having to take of boots in a country area seems churlish. Visited with a gang of friends on a wet spring day - we'd booked but as it was so miserable turned up a bit early and were made very welcome. It's an unassuming little pub next to the brewery, parking a bit limited and very traditional inside, although the loos and entrance hall have had a spruce up. Sunday roast is served carvery style, although there were a number of specials on the board that looked appetising, and one friend is a veggie so they made him a special meal. There was a choice of beef, pork or turkey, and all looked good - the beef was nice and rare and a big portion was offered. You could help yourself to a good range of veg. Puds were nice and there is a choice of ice creams if you are not that hungry but fancy something sweet. There were three Wye Valley beers on offer including HPA which is a nice light pint for summer drinking. All in all, a very enjoyable lunch.

But the food was delicious! We both had steak and ale pie and it was perfect. As a football pie-loving person, i was apprehensive with short crust pastry but it was cooked sublimely. The Tripadvisor photograph and Post code do not correspond with the Plough (though the Wye Valley Brewery itself is next door), where the postcode appears to be HR7 4HJ, so check that you have the right place. After a few miles cross country on narrow lanes from Bishops Frome we arrived at the main road, where a sign proclaimed that a warm welcome awaited one at the Plough, 500 yards further along. That proved to be a slight exaggeration, as the waiter looked less than ecstatic when we arrived at 2.p.m. on a Saturday enquiring if there was still food to be had, and although the place was empty was unwilling for us to sit in the sun at a table he had already laid up, presumably for dinner. However the genial chef said that he was still happy to cook, and the pork tenderloin with white wine sauce that he produced was pronounced delicious; ample quantities of nicely cooked vegetables were also available, with the result that 'the platter' was almost literally 'licked clean'. The Ploughman's also came with so many accompaniments that it was hard to finish it. So, full marks on food. One suggestion: the management might perhaps give the chef some overtime to make his own pickles, as the only slightly jarring notes were the rather vinegary commercial pickled silver skin onions and the chutney, which, though quite edible, was the usual rather boring commercial sort.

In fact nobody was. They have a fantastic menu that is really value for money and very generous portions. We live in Gloucester but we will be re-visiting this establishment again very soon. As we were delighted with the way we were treated and our meals. The staff at this pub are a credit to the owner. Long may it continue.

We enjoyed another superb Sunday lunch today with excellent service from the staff. However, we couldn't help noticing how it was looking a little tired now and really in need of a bit of TLC. Such a shame when everything else superb ( well perhaps a new selection of CDs wouldn't go amiss)Great food and service - keep it up team!

Wonderful to have a restaurant near us that serves such fresh and good food. We do love the pubs in our area but most of them serve ''Pubby food'' that is not too exciting. This is a wonderful change.

We had a group booking which was handled efficiently, when everyone was served without delays and mistakes. The food was delicious, I had chicken and my significant other had the fish. A variety of nicely cooked veg to accompany. Puddings were equally good. Well done to all the staff who worked cheerfully amongst the noisy but happy group.

My third or fourth visit for Sunday lunch but my first alone. A really nice Prawn salad, followed by a choice of three good quality meats - I had the turkey which was beautifully moist - and a selection of fresh vegetables. The Old Press Shiraz was a new one for me, and very acceptable. The Banana Split was probably one of the finest I have ever had - simple but delicious ( I always specifically ask for vanilla ice-creams only since I dislike perfumed ones intensely ). The Plough Inn was very busy with local folk enjoying their Sunday lunches...which is a recommendation in itself.....

Meal was excellent, I started with chicken strips in cajon batter and chilli sauce - very good. Then I had beef chilli, half and half rice and chips, this was even better. I was recommended to go to thIs restaurant and I wasn't disappointed.

We had our wedding reception here after another venue let us down. Right from the start Nadia & Simon could not do enough for us, from changing the menu to dressing the room ourselves, which Nadia helped with. The day itself was amazing, in the kitchen Simon gave us a fabulous knife and fork buffet with incredible desserts and front of house Nadia was always there on hand to help out with everything. We can't fault them and were so glad our last place let us down. Huge thanks to you all, you went above and beyond what we expected.

I feel a bit disloyal writing this as I didn't pay for lunch.... but its 20+ years since I visited this pub and was sad to see it looked the same and is in need of updating/refurbing. I know this all costs money but when was the bar last done??? We had booked a window table which when we arrived it was occupied and although it was vacated before our food was served we didn't feel like moving. The menu, is in my opinion, too extensive. This always suggests "bought in food" to me. This is the only pub for many miles on the main road from Hereford to Bromyard and I feel is missing a trick. I don't want to go back in another 20 years and find it the same.

For non-UK readers, Marmite is a foodstuff you either like or hate. The Plough Inn is similar. It may suit you: it may not. It really is a 50:50 game from our experience as a monthly dining club. We were split on the place's ambience and main dishes' quality and especially the chips (French fries) much vaunted in other Trip Advisor reviews. If you like overcooked, greasy potato wedges, you'll love them. If you seek crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, pieces of fried potato, run screaming elsewhere.Positives: service was excellent, right until all the staff disappeared after our desserts had been served (we're talking 9pm, not some extraordinarily late hour). No invitations to have coffee or liqueurs: no contact at all. The cook eventually sorted out our bill after our leader went up to the counter to ask to pay. The menu is extensive: worryingly so in some ways. Can so many dishes be prepared fresh rather than pinged in a microwave? Let's assume they can. Four of our party of six found their main meals very good. Steaks well cooked; pork loin deemed succulent and generous; liver & bacon well above average. We all agreed that the starters were OK and desserts were excellent. Beers and wine were fine, though Guinness cost an eye-watering £3.70 per pint, against £3.30 in our usual, nearby local. The place was busy with diners, even on a Tuesday night. Ourselves excepted, average age 60+.Negatives: ambience is faux "olde worlde". Wooden beams and brasses in one dining area; modern tables (and what looked like more comfortable modern seating) in another which was out of use on our visit. Two diners' gammon steaks were very overcooked. Edible? Yes. Enjoyable? No. When informed, the cook said that he would ask the butcher to cut the gammon thicker. You can judge how that will solve overcooking. Vegetables were OK as were side salads. The chips were a matter of taste. Certainly not the triumph other reviews suggest.Prices of all dishes are above average for the area. Given the variable quality, we agreed the premium isn't justified.

The original part of the pub is quite cosy but shabby, they also have a large function room and a newly refurbished restaurant. The pub was sadly nearly empty all evening so lacked atmosphere. We were given a warm welcome. There's a vast menu which isn't seasonal and a few specials on the board. The food lacked imagination and the veg were tepid (we didn't send them back to be microwaved again). Having read about their chips being The Best, we shared some, but they weren't. Home made, tasting of potato but flaccid. We wouldn't go again unless the food changes.

Stopped off here by chance and was extremely disappointed in the food at the carvery. The beef was fine, but that was about it. The swede and other veg. was totally bland and to be honest it was not that nice. We have never been here before and will not be going back. It's just that there are much better places within a couple of miles.

We called here for lunch and were made very welcome. The menu has a good selections of tempting meals and we were very pleased with our choices, my husband had a substantial piece of delicious belly pork served with black pudding mash and port gravy and I had a tasty fish pie. Our vegetables were broccoli, carrots and the best red cabbage we have ever eaten. We couldn't resist the puddings, I had a gorgeous banoffee sundae and my husband had his favourite, apple crumble and custard. A lovely lunch, and we look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Had a really nice mid-week meal. The chips were amazing - thick cut, crispy and homemade (it's worth going for the chips alone!). The rest of the food was nice and the bill was reasonable. It's a nice pub although it could do with a bit of updating. The only thing we didn't like was the cat wandering around in the bar and the kitchen and a dog which came bounding through the bar and into the kitchen which put us off the food a little. Other than that I would recommend a visit and we'll probably go back sometime.

We eat here regularly and it's always a treat. Excellent food - the steaks and fish and chips are especially recommended, with good beer, some from Wye Valley Brewery next door. It's a welcoming place, child friendly and caters easily for groups of any size. For the warm weather there's a lovely garden off the conservatory. Highly recommended if you're passing but worth going the extra mile for, too.

Visited after finding it via TA and whilst staying locally. Had not booked but were taken straight to a table. Place was busy having several groups in that night but service was excellent and professional. Food was lovely, fish and chips was really nice, it is great to get real home cooked chips with fresh fish and a good sized portion to boot. One small thing would be I would have preferred mushy peas with fish and chips rather than garden and it would have been good to have the option. Staff were lovely and welcoming. Will definitely be visiting again and recommending to family around the area.

I went for a ride out on Sunday looking for a lovely country pub to have lunch with my partner, and we found The Plough. After looking at the Menu we decided on the Carvery which i had a choose of 3 meats and 4 choices of fresh vegetables it was all cooked to perfection. The staff was all very helpful and caring you couldn't ask for more pleasant staff considering it was very busy pub. It puts other Cavery places to shame its about quality not these cheap carvery places with heated food from days ago. We will definitely be returning.

A group of us ate here in mid March and couldn't have picked a better place for my son's 21st . Friendly, helpful staff behind the bar and at our table who couldn't do enough to make our evening great.
