Great well organised public house. Sat in the beer garden in the sunshine . Great choice of drinks but we did not eat on this occasion. Dogs welcome in tap area and beer gardens front and back. We will visit again when in the area.

We came here a few years back and had cheese and onion pie and didn't really rate it. Came again this week to try something different, wife went for a burger which she enjoyed and I had the steak and ale pie, wow was it good, probably the best pie I have ever had! The gravy was so rich, meat was perfect as was the pastry, I'd highly recommend that! Plenty big enough carpark although it was tight in the car I had from work, there was only a dozen customers in so was quiet, customer service was great and everywhere looked clean. Well worth a try if you're in the area.

Great pub. Second time visiting and wasn't disappointed. We both had the steak, which was flavoursome and tender. Pleasant staff and great service. Food a little more than average but was worth it plus they seem to do offers I.e. fish and chip Tuesday.

Pretty standard unfortunately, great little place just the food that was a bit of a let down. Beefburger came well done, no option to have med rare, the cheese was quite tangy and didn't quite compliment and the same that came on the cheesy garlic bread, I probably would have preferred an American cheese on the burger. Scampi and chips, not a lot of scampi, a lot of pease. So it was all ok, nice place nice service

Our favourite place to eat since moving into the area eighteen months ago. Today's meal for our cousin's birthday was first class! Sorry not to have taken photos. We had two of the beef & ale pie, new York chicken followed by sticky toffee pud & a 'cloud' of eaton mess (to die for 😍) Freshly cooked & flavoursome. Staff are always so welcoming & even gave us 'breathing' space between courses! Highly recommend this beautiful place.

There is a new chef at The Plough (Scott) and his Sunday lunches are amazing. I had nut roast and my friend had the beef. We both agreed that everything on the plate was cooked to perfection. The plate consisted of (beef) or (nut roast), the most beautiful, tasty roasties, parsnips, a few peas and a little bit of savoy cabbage, smooth mashed potato, smooth carrot and mash, really tasty red cabbage, and a giant yorkshire pudding. The only thing I should have done is ask for more gravy, which I will do next time, because I am definitely going back for another helping near in the future.

Whilst the service was ok the food was a little below the usual standard. I had ordered mine with fry’s and it arrived with potato’s, it went back but this left the chicken very dry. The vegetarian option selected on the menu did not match what arrived and on the bill it was more expensive than the menu price, but paid in full anyway. Just needs attention to detail to get back to the service and quality of old.

First time at The Plough, lovely kerbside appeal, lovely decor inside, very welcoming by the staff, the pub is very clean. We ordered the rump steak and it was cooked to perfection, and a steak and ale pie with fresh vegetables and chunky chips. We didn't have to wait long for our meals. Both dishes were so tasty and we both really enjoyed what we had, plenty to eat also. Thank you to the team, and especially Harry who was very attentive. We will certainly visit again, very soon.

Since when did human beings rank below animals? After a lovely walk with our daughter, we were looking forward to having a meal at The Plough. As well as this, I needed to feed my daughter, who is breastfed. As we entered, we were advised that no children were allowed in this restaurant, at which point I spotted a dog sat beside it's owner. I queried that dogs were allowed but babies weren't, and this was sadly confirmed. Seems like this is the way the world is going, animals favoured above human beings. As a dog and cat owner myself, I feel this is worrying So I was turned away and forced to breastfeed my baby in the car park. How sad.

We were directed to the bar side area with the dog, fair enough...not everyone wants to eat next to a dog...I get it. Two of us sat down with the dog. When my Daughter entered with her baby ...she was told Sorry no babies allowed. I really could not believe what I was hearing. 2024 and the dog is welcome but no babies...whats going on here. The lady behind the bar explained that its been their policy for 20 years. About time they changed it then as there was only us in the bar side. She said, we have no facilities or high chairs. Maybe time to buy some. Our 5 week old baby didn't need any other space than her Mums arms and certainly wouldn't have caused any trouble or offended anyone, Im sure. My wife's family have moved over from Hong Kong and I have been showing them the fantastic pubs we have in this country. The theme has been for my mother in law to try fish and chips at every opportunity in the pubs across Cheshire and further afield. We found a winner this weekend when she confirmed that the Plough has the best fish and chips so far! Great value, cooked with care and attention. Wish this pub a lot of success in the future.

Service was excellent, drinks arrived quickly and order taken, we both had the small fish with chips. Traditional country pub, called in for a drink after a walk along the discussed railway line. Dogs welcome in the Tap Room. Maps and instructions for walks from the pub are available and these appear very clear to follow, as a visitor to the area I would suggest that these are available from a holder by the door, for when the pub is closed allowing time to walk and return for something to eat from the interesting menu, we only had time for a drink, two ales on tap. Certainly recommend you call in.

I used to love eating at the Plough when the Hughes family owned this little gem. Wanted to support Darren so thought I would give it a try and recommend it to a friend, how embarrassed I am. The fish and chips were appalling, Luke warm, rubbery and certainly not beer battered as advertised. Made Birds Eye look 5 star. Chips were of similar temperature. We tried several times to call a waitress to explain but could not catch their attention, it was relatively busy though. No one came to check everything was ok and to my suprise no comment was made that 90% of my food was still on my plate when it was cleared away. My friend pointed this out to the waitress who was so rude, telling me I had eaten all my fish despite only having 2 small mouthfuls. The waitress was determined to answer me back - clearly she didn't believe me. She told me she had already thrown my food in the bin but would go back and speak to the chef. We didn't ask for a refund but when the bill came we were not charged for my meal, though there was no comment or apology. I have never experienced such hostility and eat out on a regular basis. We were purposely ignored as we left despite being very quiet and civilised in passing on my comments. I have been a supporter of the Broad Oak group in the past but will be cancelling my forthcoming booking at a sister restaurant. I agree sometimes that the chef can have an off day but I cannot accept the rudeness of the member of staff that served us.

Not been for a while, will be a while before we go again! My Family visited with my Mother in Law for her 92nd birthday. It was a Friday night. We were shown to the farthest corner table in the room. There was just one other couple in. There was no fire on in the main room, no radiators on and it was cold by all the windows. The waitress took our drink order and after a while, returned with 3 wrong drinks out of the 5. We called her over and she argued about two of the drinks but replaced the 3rd. The replacement tasted awful and had to be returned. 'The lemonade was off' apparently. We also then got a glass of lemonade for the lager shandy. My lager and black wasnt nice either but I didnt want to make any more fuss. The meal order came and I asked for some gravy to go with my meal. I had to go to the bar to remind them of this. A small gravy boat of cold, lumpy gravy arrived. My Mother in Law wasnt impressed with her scampi and when my Husband tried them, he said they tasted strange. My daughter said they were 'too fishy'? I dont eat fish so not sure what she meant. Only one of the party had another drink but 3 of us had a dessert. My Husband was not impressed with the Wet Nelly saying that it was stodgy and not nice. During our visit, a party of 4 arrived and a party of 2. I can remember the years when it was heaving. The staff were indifferent and absent for our visit. At no point did they ask about the birthday or wish my Mother in Law Happy Birthday. I was charged £1.50 for the gravy. My daughter was charged £2.80 for lemonade in the drink. I was told that they had given her 2 dashes of lemonade?? No atmosphere, no heating, poor service. No thank you.

Myself and 4 friends have been to restraunt for a Christmas meal for the last 3 years. We diced to return last night and we have been disappointed with the service. Last night, we agreed the staff weren’t great. Our server did not seem to want to be there at all. We had ordered 4 gins (all be it separately), but our serve bought it one gin, and said “who’s got the gin”. We were all confused and we had all ordered different flavour gins, so we asked her what flavour. The server replied - “I don’t know, who just ordered a gin” we said we all had. Called just out the gin on our table and walked off. She did not have a friendly manor to work is hospitality at all. After dinner was served, a different lady came to take our plates. She asked if we’d like anything else, and we said we’d like desert. 20 minutes later, no one came to take our desert order. There was our table of 5, and another table next to us of 7 or 8 at this point. My order of biscoff cheesecake came out with strawberry drizzle, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu and the flavours don’t match… Upon leaving the restaurant, there were table lay out with chocolates in wine glasses, and Christmas crackers on placemats. I’m not sure if this was a different booking than ours, but we did not receive this. The hospitality of the staff wasn’t great at all, and make our experience really disappointing

Having enjoyed wonderful food and hospitality here over the years, we decided to revisit The Plough yesterday evening. It’s a lovely old pub/restaurant and the two gentlemen in our party chose the steak pie whilst the ladies, disappointed that previously enjoyed salmon with leek sauce was no longer on the menu, chose fish pie. Whilst the steak pie was just about acceptable ( tough pieces of meat), the fish pie, accompanied by lukewarm, barely cooked green vegetables, was inedible. I have never, ever, handed back a meal before but my friend and I simply couldn’t eat it. The fish pie was clearly an economy version of what a fish pie should be. It was billed as including salmon and pollock, topped with macaroni cheese and a herb crumb. I had no salmon in my dish. The Mac cheese had no sauce and the cheese on the top was just about detectable. The pollock was tough and strangely in cubes. It looked as though it was “reformed” as it would be difficult to achieve that shape and texture from a fresh piece of fish. The crumb topping just added to dry nature of the whole dish. I have to say that our waitress was very pleasant and politely removed the cost of the dishes from the bill. She offered an alternative plus free desserts. My friend just opted for apple pie which was good, whereas I just had a coffee. It was not the fault of the waitress and she handled the situation well. I believe this restaurant has recently been taken over by a small chain which runs other pub/restaurants in the area. We had a poor fish and chips meal at one of them a few weeks ago. Sadly, this restaurant has gone from being one of our long-time favourites to one to which we shall not return. We are also unlikely to patronise others in the chain ( which can be found online).

if I could have given it a zero or a half a star it would have been too generous. I ordered a lasagne off their special menu. Waited half an hour for my "food"??. it came in an oblong dish generous portion until I started to open it up to eat. I found that the so called chef? had put a large spoonful of chilli including the beans, in the bottom of the dish, and topped off with the lasagne meat. Then threw a huge portion of lasagne on top. all stuck? together. It was disgusting. I'm a pensioner and I thought I'd treat myself to a meal at the plough as I have eaten there off and over the past 50 odd years. Their food was always tasty, freshly cooked and delicious. Not any more unfortunately. They need to have a word with the COOK' and not visit such atrocious food on paying customers. I did have a word with the manager before I left and she said they wouldn't charge me for the meal. I said just as well as I wouldn't have paid for it anyway as it was a disgusting glob. Don't let this review put you off going to the plough. All in all their food is normally up to scratch.

An EXCELLENT meal was enjoyed by my husband and I Last week . We did visit at quiet hour, 4.30-5.30pm. On our way home from a day out . My husband has visited several times lately with his ‘walking PROBUS ‘ group, who have enjoyed the food and drink too, returning time & again . It certainly did not disappoint . It was EXCELLENT!! Highly recommend the steak pie! Really meaty and flavoursome . A generous plate of veg too to accompany with delicious gravy . So good I’m returning with girl friends this week ! Hope pie is on the menu ! Service was good, very pleasant, polite courteous lady . Served us a welcome tea pit of tea , whilst waiting for our dinner. Husband says the Ale is good too. Thank you

Went for Sunday Lunch which was excellent..They even give you extra gravy without having to ask. The service was also excellent, friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend. They also cater for the smaller size lunch which meant we could fit in a dessert. First Class...

Called for an early evening meal and I had the steak in ale pie, seasonal vegetables, chips and a jug of gravy, my wife had the salmon, it was delicious, the best home made steak pie I have ever, ever, ever had. Call a couple of days later to repeat the meal and it was sold out, I was not supposed. I cannot recommend the inn any higher.

This is the second time I've been because the first time was excellent, unfortunately my second visit was pretty average and so I will try somewhere different as I can't be sure what I will get.
