A little treasure in the Ripple countryside. An C18 character pub with a large garden and parking. Always friendly and welcoming with wonderful hosts Brian and Roy and the loveliest staff. They have earned their pub award as an 'Asset to the Community'. We have been coming for some years with family and friends and we highly recommend their home cooked Sunday lunch or a tasty weekday treat. Recently we had an event at The Plough and we were so well taken care of, with a heartfelt warm welcome and a delicious buffet with a personal touch. Some of our family had a great overnight stay in the guest rooms too. Thank you Brian & Roy for everything you did for us. You made our day!

I love the Plough at Ripple, it's a very small village and you might miss it if you blink. However, it is well worth finding it (use your satnav) The people are lovely, Brian and Roy go out of their way for you and nothing is too much trouble. The food is to die for. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Having heard good things we decided to book for lunch last Sunday. We were not disapointed as both the roast beef and roast lamb were of superb quality served with five different vegetables (plus of course the roasties), Yorkshire puddings and a very tasty gravy. We had heard portions were large so we didn't order starters but what we saw looked very good. Instead we shared a portion of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream which proved a very good choice. The pudding was super light and went down a teat. At less than £15 for the roast and just under £19 for two courses we thought it superb value for money especially as the service was top notch.

Found this place searching for a pub/B&B near Deal. Glad I did as you would never know it was there. The bedroom was clean and very nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed, bathroom small but lovely . The pub has a lovely friendly local atmosphere with great music playing in the back ground. The evening meal was really good with chips to die for. A very quiet peaceful night with no traffic noise. Breakfast was also very good with everything freshly cooked and piping hot. Such good value for money all round. Will definitely return

A pub we know well and have always enjoyed, evening and lunchtime meals here. Our most recent visit was really poor. It wasn't busy so wasn't pressure on kitchen. Several things not available and we and other customers near us told they just need to re print menus. Food was really very greasy and one of our party had a steak, half of which you couldn't get a knife through, so that went home for the dog.young bar staff very friendly but it all seemed to lack a bit of direction. A huge shame.

We decided to pop to The Plough, Ripple at the last minute for my birthday. They kindly fitted us in, even though they had a large table already booked in and it was steak night. The food was lovely, and quick. Reasonably priced. The young girl who was our waitress was charming. She was friendly, happy and very courteous, checking if we were ok and confident to talk with us. Well I dropped into the PLOUGH for a late breakfast on Friday with my partner and have to say its the best breakfast I've ever had! Absolutely gorgeous food and Roy, our host, couldn't do enough for us. Had to retire to the sun trapped beautiful gardens to let it all go down. A beautiful and peaceful secluded spot. Didn't want to leave! Could have stayed all day! Was so impressed I brought the kids for Sunday roast yesterday and we were far from disappointed. Massive helpings. You definitely get your monies worth here! This pub is a real country gem. We'll done Brian and Roy! You have a lovely pub and John and the team looked after us totally yesterday. Amazing service. We called in for Sunday lunch, We haven't been to this pub before and were immediately taken by the friendliness of the staff. It really is as a country pub used to be. We ordered our roast, which came very quickly. One of us had the lamb and one the beef. The portions were huge with plenty of vegetables and extra gravy. Both meats were so tender. We also had the Baileys cheesecake, with plenty of cream in a jug. We were very impressed with it all and we paid £15.50 for two courses, excellent value for the portion sizes. There is a set price for 1,2 or 3 courses but we didn't find this displayed anywhere . We think the prices have increased a little from those displayed on their website. Booking is recommended!! We will be returning!! Highly recommend.

The chef even spoke to us to check what we needed. Their burgers and chips are gluten free and they use a separate frier. We went back for Sunday lunch with our family and had a lovely meal. Four of us are Gluten free and it was no problem. We had cauliflower cheese and stuffing and gluten free gravy. Roast potatoes were crispy and the meat was perfectly cooked. Huge portions though. The Plough was the chosen pub for my regular mid-week walk with a group of friends. It is ideally situated for easy access to local footpaths with some great views across the countryside and out to the coast, with some lovely churches and even a windmill! It is the first time I have been there but it certainly won't be the last. The staff were very friendly, taking our orders before we walked and we had a great welcome upon our return, even to the extent of being offered refills for our water bottles. The food came promptly and all our choices received great comments from the hungry walkers. I had the brisket and it was delicious - so tender and with some very tasty mash and gravy, and a good selection of fresh veg. According to my companions, the fish pie was also delicious, as were the muscles, the dressed crab, liver and bacon, and the fish and chips! The beer was also to be commended - indeed it was a prize winner at the local CAMRA beer festival - and it slipped down a treat. And after a great meal and a pint or so, you can then enjoy a lovely Solley's ice-cream - made just down the road! Perfect!

We have been there twice now and on both occasions the food has been quick and excellent. The first time was Monday when we had braised pork, there was a table next to us and two had liver and onions which looked fantastic, one had a beef burger then on the table opposite were a couple having fish pie which also looked fantastic. We went again last night and the 2 lads and dad were there again, they had liver and onions again and were in raptures. In fact we thought they were working for the chef! But no they were builders on a job locally but were from Hull. They put their order in for their last night which is tonight for a big steak. I had mussels then dressed crab, so fresh and so good. No grit in the mussels and beautifully cooked, the crab was really fresh and no bits of shell. My husband had prawn cocktail which was amazing and really fresh plump prawns, then he had fish and chips the cod was amazing and very tasty(I tried some). I said to the chef Huw that I liked salads and cod without batter, his reply ..no problem at all. In fact I can order any fish..like skate which I love and he can get it fresh the next day.We now need to get the family there as I think it could be a very nice cosy local for them especially as the beer is great too.

I found this pub whilst taking a leisurely country ramble through this lovely green and peaceful part of Kent on a blue and sunny summer day, and made it my lunch stop. Being a non-meat eater I chose the fish pie, and was amazed at both the amount and variety of fish beneath a creamy potato crust lightly topped with cheese. The flavours and textures of the filling were soo yummy. My walking companion chose sausages and mash served with onion gravy and declared it was nine out of ten! This lovely old pub does a special deal for lunch, if you order your two meals between 12 noon and 1pm the bill is just £10, bargain. There is a varied menu of superbly home-cooked fare and for beer aficionados at least three of the ales are from The Ripple Steam Brewery sited less than a mile from the pub.

Frozen mushrooms in piping hot casing. Undoubtedly our ordered food would also have been similarly frozen/bought in. Another hour ,no food. Walked out . Friendly at first, but indifference to our situation and ,I guess, terrible management. There is nothing wrong with "locals" pubs , but this sorry experience had nothing to redeem it, except the real ale was fine. I have never felt strongly enough before to leave a poor review, until now.

Really good honest rural country pub food . Great. Atmosphere in public bar, wide range of local and international beers and ales. We booked in for two nights accommodation and were surprised by the high standard of our room. Highly recommend. Staff friendly and locals very amicable. Consider wisely ahead of Dover as an over nighters.

Huw.. the Chef has widened his menu with one criterion. His menu is entirely British from Deal Boatmans Fish Pie to great Liver and Bacon, Cumberland Pie and Cullen Skink. It is hard to beat his sausage and mash or home boiled Bacon. Excellent value along with excellent food. To be recommended. Senior Citizens get really good value at any weekday lunchtime. Local beer from Ripple Brewery only yards away completes the picture. It remains a pub with food rather than a restaurant in a pub.You won't be disappointed.

Had fish and chips and fish pie. Pigeon pie, liver and bacon, roasts on a Sunday, Cumberland pie, steamed pads, all the stuff you want to see. Mine was too large. Hubbys fish was sustainable, so not cod but lovely with twice cooked chips. Such a friendly atmosphere. Hugh the chef and Richard Crocker, behind the bar are sooo lovely.

I visit Deal frequently to see my Dad and thought I would try somewhere out of town for a change, so looked up local recommended restaurants/pubs in the area and after seeing some of the glowing reviews on The Plough decided to book and take Dad out for a treat. Unfortunately myself, my, and Dad were all disappointed with the ambience of the Plough, as although we were greeted kindly by the staff, we did not feel a friendly atmosphere. There seemed to be disorganisation with the serving staff and inconsistences which hindered our meal. I appreciate it was a busy day for them, but feel they would benefit from looking at how they organise deliverance of food, staffing levels (there appeared to be one person taking and delivering orders in a busy restaurant), as this will help to create a more cohesive atmosphere.

My partner had cod and chips, delicious perfectly cooked in crispy own made beer batter. I had a seafood linguine with muscles, Tiger prawns and chorizo. Was to die for, the shellfish was perfectly cooked and the whole dish was full of flavour. Perfectly seasoned and very well presented. We had a pulled pork starter which was great to wet our appetites! The chef made the experience very personal and dealt with us in person and the price of the food very reasonable We highly recommend seeing the chef here, and will be visiting again.

Isn't it great when one returns to a village pub you have visited in the past and not only find the same atmosphere, the same range of well kept local ales but even better food. The chalked up menu is absolutely right for this friendly and pretty inn just a few miles outside Walmer and Deal. Great home cooked boiled bacon with bubble and squeak to die for. A good range of traditional pub food but also Dover Sole and Sea Bass.Add to this mixture Hugh Irvine a young chef who loves his work and will cater for corporate events, functions and weddings and this is a local village inn that is one to watch. Hugh not only loves food but he really knows about it too and that's pretty rare nowadays. The Plough has always had a good reputation for local beers and ales but now its on its way to getting an excellent reputation for its no nonsense food. No matter how successful 'The Plough' may get, and I hope it does, it must never, ever lose its village pub atmosphere. I shall go back and back and back again. Where else can one actually get flat cider and not that fizzy bubbly stuff called Cidre or whatever - well you can get it on tap at The Plough. Great stuff

We stopped off whilst out for a walk across the fields on a warm summer day and had a pint and a baguette. The décor inside is very tired and drab, it is quite depressing. There are tables outside and a garden too, so it was pleasant enough sitting out there. The beer was very good and from a local brewery "Ripple Steam", which is only about a mile away. The baguette was freshly cooked and the fillings were good. At £4.95 they represented good value for money too.Over all it was a pleasant experience, eating and drinking alfresco in the sunshine. I don't think it would have been such a nice lunch had we eaten indoors though as the bar really is in need of re-decoration.I would have no hesitation in coming back again on a nice day as it is a beautiful area with plenty of nice country walks all around and as I said the beer was exceptionally good.

Visited The Plough for the Sunday roast. We arrived early and had a drink beforehand. Our order was taken when we arrived, but we said we weren't ready for the meal immediately. I had chicken which was succulent - delicious. My husband had the beef which he thoroughly enjoyed. The meal, staff, service, and surroundings were first class. The staff are always attentive and courteous. Without hesitation we would recommend The Plough for any meal - daytime or evening.

We booked a table for four people for 12.30 for Sunday lunch. We arrived at 12.25 and were shown our table. We ordered drinks from the bar and asked for them to be put on our tab – so our presence was known.. At 12.50 we asked if someone was going to give us a menu and take our order. We were told that there was a choice of pork or rare beef. Three of us opted for the rare beef thinking that rare was a description of the length of time it had been cooked – rare in fact meant quantity. It was sliced so thinly and there was so little of it that it should have been described as near extinct rather than rare.We felt we had been ignored for over 20 minutes until we prompted the staff to give us some attention. When we did receive the food we thought it was not worth the wait. No wonder the pub was not busy if that is the standard of service/food.

Went for Sunday lunch recently. Although busy service was excellent and quick. Lovely log fire. Looking forward to the revamp of the pub as outlined in the planning permission displayed. Husband began to feel ill and the chef was excellent, he wrapped up our food so we could take it home with us and they even waived the cost one of our drinks because we had to leave. Couldn't ask for more.

After reading some glowing reviews for this pub we booked for a family evening meal. The pub is generally rather grubby and tired and the toilet is a disgrace. We sat down and waited for 20 minutes but nobody brought a menu......I got up from the table and went looking for the waitress who eventually came to take our orders. There wasn't a written menu nor was there a dessert menu or price list. We placed our order and then waited over 40 minutes for the first of the 10 meals to arrive. The food was average and both steaks were over cooked. It took 3 hours to be served 10 main courses and 5 desserts 3 of which were ice cream!!!! The staff need more training and clearly the food needs to be served much quicker. We were given knives and forks to eat our desserts with !!! and all in all it was a compete disaster of an evening and very awkward and embarrassing for us.I would never recommend this place.

Came here on a wintry but sunny Sunday lunch time. The pub was really cosy and the staff were welcoming. We had booked ahead in case it was busy. I had the veggie option sweet potato nut roast and my boyfriend had the beef roast dinner. Both were very tasty and good value for money. As a veggie when I have Sunday lunch I still like to have roast potatoes and all the trimmings and that is what I got here so more than happy. Good portion size and reasonably priced. I'd recommend it.

Recently we had the pleasure of staying in Ripple for a week. Luckily we found The Plough Inn on our first night. I can't speak highly enough of it. The manager Martin is a very friendly welcoming landlord and nothing is too much trouble. The pub is clean and warm - a log stove heats the lovely bar area. The staff are great and the atmosphere is very convivial. Over the course of the week, we along with friends, ate steak to die for, chilli which tasted like my own version ( big compliment) it was spicy and rich, roast beef and lamb both which were melting, along with a beautiful sweet potato nut roast. The food is the best pub food I have eaten by a mile. I recommend that you try it and I guarantee you will return because of both the quality and price.

Decided to go to this country pub for lunch last Sunday with my wife. Went quite early which was fortunate as I expect it gets busy later on. They do a really good Sunday roast with choice of chicken, pork and beef with all the trimmings. Two courses cost a tenner and to be honest they could charge more as the quality and quantity beats a lot of local places. Food tasted all fresh and my chicken was beautifully moist. The Yorkshire puds were almost as good as my own too :). If you're not a fan of roasts there were other choices too and I'm tempted to pop in during the week to try them out. It's a real country pub and feels like a community hub, lots of great beers on tap including a well kept local Ripple Steam IPA. Not sure how child friendly the place is as we were one of a few couples in the pub so I'd phone ahead and check if you have kids.

Fantastic place for coffee, breakfast, lunch or cake. Food is always great, as is the coffee, and the character of the building makes this a really nice place to while away the hours. Best of all though are the lovely, lovely staff who are so warm and welcoming, and an absolute pleasure to have got to know over the past 2 plus years. It's almost like my 2nd home as I spend so much time here. 😊 😊

Spire’s Cafe - true hospitality. It’s not modern or has amazing decor. It’s an old church, converted into a cafe. We left our airb&b and walked around Deal and couldn’t find one that could set all 9 of us until we chanced upon Spire’s Cafe at 11am still serving breakfast!! The lady showed us into a side room. Yes, it has mismatched furniture (but I’d gladly bring home one of the dining tables which is most likely an antique!). We were served a full English breakfast with coffee (latte, cappuccino or whatever is your favourite) or tea. Then we were gifted with Bubble & Squeek!! (For those of us not familiar with this, it’s basically fried vegetables - potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli - or any leftover vegetables). And all just £8 each. Add £2 for two pieces of hash brown!
