This is our favourite tea room/cafe in the area. Lovely setting, friendly , helpful service, and delicious food: baguettes, salads, soups plus a few changing hot dishes all freshly made and generously served . Plus a variety of tempting cakes, scones and good teas and coffees.

We called in just for 2 coffees and we had brought a huge 4 cup of caffeine £2.50 each - an excellent bargain but for our taste a little weak. We then walked around the garden. It spreads back quite a way. It's half wild and other area planted with wild flowers. Parking is quite easy because there are a few little lanes to use.

Nice little Tea room set in a very scenic setting. After demolishing a bacon sandwich and a hot chocolate I set off to walk through the gardens which is my main reason for visiting. I love the gardens they’re very well cared for and the flowers are beautiful so nice to see so many wild flower areas too. There’s plenty of benches about too so you can just sit and take in the scenery 🥰 A lovely place to kill many hours as there’s a fabulous walk from the Tea Rooms heading upwards towards the light house.

We hadn't planned to stop at The Pines, but needing a refreshment from a sunny walk along the cliffs we thought it seemed a good idea. As we approached we were greeted by a chap who offered us, if we were not busy, a free family workshop where we explored the garden and made some food using items in the garden on an open fire. Drinks and snacks first we went into the team room, a few options for drinks - and with it now into the afternoon I opted for a nice cider! We also got some Jaffa cake (very nice!) and kids got some juices. Inside the tearoom is plenty of seating and mixed into the team room is a museum, plenty of stuff to read about if you want to know more on the area. We opted to sit outside (again, plenty of seats, both next to the tea shop and also just across the lane in the gardens). With snacks and drinks done we joined the workshop - this was primarily aimed at the kids, but with little to no knowledge of these things myself I got to know a few bits too. The garden has the original Winston Churchill statue which was rejected as he 'looked a bit grumpy' and also has a original mock up of Cheap Side following great fire of London (now being used as a flower bed!) We were told the garden is left to just do it's thing mostly, ie. there is no specific planting of random plants, albeit things do make their way in on the wind / birds etc. We enjoyed our afternoon here, and it's worth a nose around if your passing! (Garden is based on donations).

Absolute shambles of a place. Our first time visiting and it will be our last. After being rudely told we need to order at the front before even stepping through the door, the very brunt and abrupt lady behind the counter refused to cook any hot meals. Bear in mind it was 2:30. While having our lunch, we overheard members of staff complaining we brought our 2 small and very quiet dogs in. "well their going to get mud all over our floors." We Ended up having some very sloppy baguettes with half hearted presentation. The sheer price of the food let alone treatment from within and disappointment of the museum we definitely do not recommend the tea rooms to anyone. Poor poor place. If only we knew of the kiosk or the pub on the beach beforehand.

The two stars are purely for the pleasant welcome and service. The food and drinnk were abysmal. The coffee was gut rotting and the tea harsh. My baguette was like soggy cardboard and apparently the quiche was like scraambled eggs. A certain irony given how close we were to France. A real shame because the staff were lovely and the boards show they want custom. Maybe get better supplies and up the cooking?

The saddest news today - the wonderful Michelle is leaving the tea room. Over the years, she turned it from a decent but ordinary cafe into the best cafe for miles and miles. The staff are so lovely and the service is superb, lovely atmosphere in there too. Only thing I would add, the Sunday roasts are £17, and the portion sizes are very small - we had one small bowl of cauliflower cheese and veg between 3 of us and weren't sure if that was in error, so the price seems a lot for what is actually available. The food itself however, excellent!

Perfect lunch: delicious, healthy, home cooked food in a beautiful setting, with friendly caring service! We eat out regularly and rarely find the perfect lunch but at Pines tea room, it always happens. Wonderfully spiced butternut squash soup, a perfect warm baguette with thick sliced ham and cheese and a colourful mixed salad plus excellent coleslaw. Followed up with the best carrot cake we’ve had and perfect coffee. Michelle who steers the ship has a big heart and cooks with generosity and skill. And her team are all lovely and helpful which we appreciate being elderly. The garden is lovely to sit in and they will do takeaway to take down to the seafront if requested. If you miss this little diamond your life will be unfulfilled. Not only is it a great museum of the local goings - on in this specific area of Kent during WW11, but the Restaurant therein is fabulous. They serve good wholesome food which is locally sourced and truly organic and in quick style. The Ladies that work here cook like your Granny used to, you will feel welcome, satiated and lucky to have found this place. This will be your first call when you visit Kent and trust me - you will be miserable if you miss it.
