Tables were unclean & sticky, glassware was dusty & dirty. There was NO atmosphere, NO music & NO heating. Food was OK, nothing great but acceptable. I wouldn't visit again.

Absolutely SHOCKING. My advice would be to not visit here! Booked this as my brother was down visiting and we have had nice meals here previously (albeit a few years ago!) when we got there we had to wait with our two young children by the bar to even talk to someone for 15 Minutes, then another 10 minutes while they went to clear a table for us. It was half an hour after we booked for by the time we sat down. We waited at our table for half an hour and nobody came so we went to order drinks at the bar and asked if we could just go up to the carvery (thank god we only wanted carvery!) once we finished our food, nobody had still been to our table, we cleared our table ourself, asked at the bar for menus for desserts, still nobody has been to our table, ordered our desserts at the bar. 30 minutes went by, we went to ask at the bar and they had lost our order and hadn’t even started it. When it finally came it was wrong. It took us 3.5 hours to just have a Sunday lunch, not once did anyone come to our table, the food was absolutely mediocre at best and it was pure chaos. Will not be returning, will be telling all our friends and family how awful it was as well!

Very disappointed, we have been here regularly over the years and never been let down. We arrived and had to hang around waiting for somebody to acknowledge us. We ordered the Carvery which was cold and tasteless. We sent it back to be warmed up, but still a huge disappointment to what we have had previously. I agree with the other review the meat was swimming in water. Will not be going back.

We have a carvery here at least once a month and always great food and service. Would definitely advise booking at least the day before as it gets booked up very quickly. Eating out in the garden is particularly nice in the summer. I can't praise the staff or the quality food and surroundings enough.

The carvery, sorry to say was a let down. The meat was all sat in big puddles of water... 1st time I had seen that. Veg was bland and the gravy was brown water! No roast potatoes. I do think they need to re think their approach here or stop doing it all together. Starters were frozen pre packaged food Glass of house wine was also extortionate!!

We chose the carvery but were very disappointed. Tasteless vegetables. The joints of meat were sitting in puddles of water and were also tasteless. The only saving grace was the gravy, which was nice. My friend sent hers back and ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich which she didn't really enjoy. Lovely building but very disappointing food.

Called in Oct 3rd at 5 30pm for carvery, paid and was told to find table which we did. After waiting some ten minutes for someone to come to us got up and asked if we could get our carvery which we did. It was obvious the heat for the vegetables had been turned off for sometime as they were very cold, the gravy was like water, no choice of potatoes such as boiled or mash only roasts rock hard which must have been standing a long time. When my partner was asked if thing were alright she replied that it was the worst carvery she had ever had. The member of staff said she would try to do something about it but never returned. Poor meal poor service will not be returning

The lady serving was very polite and friendly and an asset to the business, an elderly gent was struggling with his carvery plate and without hesitation she carried it back to his table for him, this kind of service goes a long way in our eyes and she definitely deserves recognition for it. We've always enjoyed going here as a place to meet family and friends however went last night (a Friday) and couldn't wait to leave. We sat outside in the garden area because it was a hot evening and the smell was terrible. I'm guessing they had a problem with the toilets because there was only one in use and it looked like the staff toilet. Went inside to eat and had to keep looking for the waiting staff when we needed to order or pay. It was stiflingly hot inside with no fans or windows open so we finished our drinks back in the smelly garden. I understand that problems do happen but really the place shouldn't have been open the smell was awful. The outside area in general has gone downhill. It used be lovely but now it's tatty. Disappointed.

Whilst this used to be one of our "go to" places in the area, we went there a couple of days ago and it was awful. The owners have let it go beyond belief - outside was terrible with weeds growing everywhere and the kids play area shut off, not to mention rat traps around the seating area. The food was atrocious with dry meat (carvery and Hunters Chicken), to the point it was almost inedible. We left 2/3rds of the meal, and when the staff came to clear our plates, considering the amount of food left, didn't even ask whether everything was OK- terrible food terrible service, terrible overall. What was once a lovely pub is now on the "avoid at all costs" list. If I could give negative stars, it would score 5 on that scale.

We recently booked a table for 3 and asked if the carvery would be on, to which we were told yes. On arrival no carvery, and when we asked why we were told it depended on how many bookings they had and if there weren’t enough they wouldn’t put it on. We were given some menus and my friend ordered Hunters Chicken only to be told there wasn’t enough chicken so could she choose another dish. When my meal came (Steak and ale pie) my veg was so undercooked you could barely cut through the carrots and broccoli so I left them.If I’d asked for it to be better cooked my meal would have been cold by the time it came, so I didn’t bother. Then the waitress came in to the bar area with another girl and emptied an entire tray of cutlery into a tray and spent ages banging it around which was incredibly noisy, then brought it next to our table and did the same for a further few minutes. I understand you have to dry it and put it away but perhaps do that in the kitchen or away from the dining area. This is the second time we have tried this venue neither with a positive experience so I’m afraid we won’t be returning.

We turned up for our booking for 6 people to be told we couldn't have carvery as there was no meat, despite there being 2 big joints of meat on the carvery station. We then had to tell the family after being seated and how embarrassing it is to walk past everybody on the way out that we couldn't have roast dinner after all and walk past everyone eating theres. We have been a regular for years and it has dramatically gone down hill. We were told by the waitress thank you for understanding. Having been here a couple of weeks ago to enjoy an excellent mid-week Carvery, we thought we would try the 'Breakfast Carvery' - available on Thurs/Fri/Sat - until 11.00am. I was a little worried having checked the website first only to see the stated opening times were 12.00 each day! Ignore - the website is going to be updated. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely welcome and shown to a table. Having chosen how we would like our eggs cooked, it was only a short wait until we were called to the 'carvery'. Our plates were ready, with eggs as ordered, and another plate of toast & butter. On offer was everything you could possibly want for a traditional British Breakfast. In carvery fashion, you could select and help yourself to exactly what you wanted - no limit, and the quality was exceptional. Certainly one of the best breakfast's I have had and fantastic value. Overall, a lovely pub environment, extremely welcoming and friendly Staff and above all, great food and value. Cannot recommend enough. We will certainly be back.

This is my local without a doubt and been going for years but after my experience today I would reconsider coming back. I have never ever had a bad meal or bad service since me coming to this delightful place but today on Mother’s Day 10th March 2024 I have never had such a very poor experience like it ever. We arrived 10 minutes before time and there was a huge queue to await to be seen and seated. Other customers behind me were shown to their seats and their table time was at the same time as mine. Other customer had been waiting for their table for over one hour and we were not that far behind. Customers were getting very frustrated as well as my party was even those behind me and some voiced their outrage. I had three elderly relations with me all in their 80s for which by this time they all were crumbling. When we finally got shown to our table to be seated the service was abysmal virtually non exsistent. No cutley noticeable no seasoning and the table was dirty. We had to find staff and ask for drinks to order, for the menus to look at, to place orders for food and when our meals arrived they were all cold and not very tasty most of which as overcooked. Very very disappointing.. I appreciate it was a very busy day but even so it was very badly organised. Christmas Day last year 2023 was absolutely phenomenal and outstanding. What on earth has happened. Today was an utter disaster. Will I be back .. I doubt it!

They have just started serving a buffet style breakfast with a good introductory price of just £7 and seeing how they are only 2 mins up the road thought i would give it a go, eggs were cooked to order (nice touch) sausage and bacon were very nice the sort you would expect from the butchers, there was black pudding which was very nicely cooked (not the disintegrating over cooked slop you might usually get) fried bread, hashbrowns, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and chips (wasn't expecting that but the kids might like it) all served with toast and real butter. coffee was excellent freshly ground all in all a very nice breakfast, grab a bargain i think the offer is on for the next week or 2, and if you like a carvery its excellent we have had several and its been very good and hot (every time!) as a point of reference I'm in my 50's so I've been around the block and know a nice meal when i have one :) if you like your ale i can recommend the neck oil

Having visited here many times and enjoyed what was a top quality Sunday Carvery, I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and the service from the staff. For starters, we were seated in the darkest part of the restaurant, even though there were plenty of tables available, and it was 5pm so I don’t think all those spare tables were booked. When a different waitress came to take our drink order, we asked to be seated somewhere different, this was no problem - so why place us in the worst seating to start with? Albeit we booked for the last sitting of the day for the Carvery, and with this in mind I didn’t expect the vegetables to be as they are at midday, but the vegetables were basically mush. There were no carrots, and when I asked if they would be anymore I was told very rudely by the lady staff member who was carving the meat, “no more carrots” there was no apology, (btw she needs training on carving a joint, my beef slices looked like three rump steaks it was that thick). I was then informed that if I wanted carrots, there was mashed swede and carrot available, which I had. But it was inedible as it was like puréed baby food. When we paid for our Carvery (which was definitely not worth £16 per person) we were not asked ‘if all was ok with our meals’ which seems to be the norm at other restaurants. So all in all, the Plough and Harrow has really gone down in both its quality of food and customer service from the staff.

A very pleasant Greek salad with flat bread and hummus and plenty of feta but lacked tomato- 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half and dressing. I would have asked for dressing however no-one approached our table whilst we were there to ask us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our food. We left without dessert or coffee for this same reason. Menu not as good as 12 months ago

I popped here quite a few times having paddle boarding on the Avon as it's on the way home. The service has always been very slow. The last time we visited we waited over an hour for cheesy chips which eventually came out cold when I asked where they were. We spoke to a waitress who was very nice and said it's not acceptable and they'll refund us everything when we've finished (inc groups). After waiting at the bar for 20 mins I was served and told everything had been refunded. After a few weeks I realised it hadn't been refunded. I have emailed and messaged on FB and just keep getting ignored.

I came in for dinner with my family & a few friends. I ordered the carvery which was okay but very cold & the selection wasn’t great. I did inform our waitress who acted as if my complaint was the least of her worries which didn’t set a good tone for the meal, she was young but the attitude was not necessary. We had a few enquires throughout the meal but every time I called our waitress over she was too busy chatting to her friends or on her phone. the food, although cold I could have put down to a bad day however the staff (we spoke to 3 of them) were all rude. We asked to speak to a manager and was told he was busy however our waitress was next in charge, well If she is in charge with an attitude like that I’m glad we won’t be returning. such a shame i visited in March time and it was lovely, clearly gone down hill. We were warned by other family members that the staff have made the place go down hill but as we had a good experience we thought we would give it a go. Wish we would have listened.

Called in on Bank holiday Monday for a carvery ! It was delicious good choice of vegetables and all fresh (unlike some soggy frozen ) the meat was beautiful and tender just melted in your mouth . Service was great too . My only criticism was that I thought the veggies needed to be hotter they were only just warm and the cauliflower cheese was actually almost cold ! I like my food piping hot , my husband likes his just warm ! But on the whole would recommend it !

Wide open car park just off the main road. Easy to park. Pub entrance wide enough for wheelchairs and staff at reception desk really good. A minor hiccup over the online booking if a table was sorted by the manager who found a table for us. Our table server was lovely. She was open smiley and genuine. Drinks order taken whilst we looked at the menu. There were two or three other options on the menu but on a Sunday the reason we were there was for the carvery. £16 may sound a lot but on reflection it was worth it. Atmosphere, setting and overheads considered, £16 per head was reasonable when the selection was viewed. Three choices, beef, ham, turkey with or without a Yorkshire pudding with 12 trays of optional veg, including: Cabbage, broccoli, parsnips, peas,.carrots, pomme dauphinois, red cabbage, swede mash, stuffing balls and mashed potatoes. Plenty of gravy and options for cranberry sauce etc also available. Tasted really good. Table service was charming during and after our meal. Toilets clean and fu ctio al I'd recommend this as good family orientated carvery location. Note that at the time of writing, close after 5 on a Sunday although revised opening from September, so check to avoid disappointment. Well worth a visit

I went once and thought it was just an off day as my previous experience here when run by mature staff it was possibly the best carvery in the county, however after three visits in the past year thinking each time will be better all I can say is this. The staff are lovely, however I don't think there is a single member of staff outside the kitchen over the age of 20 and the service shows. The food in my opinion has taken a nose dive since years gone by. The meat I edible but that is about as far as it goes, the veg which has been sat dying under a hotplate for gid knows how long and the tasteless brown water which somehow passes for gravy brings together a totally bland, tasteless collection. After three visits, reviewing the same disappointment in terms of carvery each time I think I can safely say its not just a one off.

Waited 45mins (although pub was quiet) when the waitress came to our table and told us that the chef was not happy with shepherds pie we both ordered and therefore would not serve it to us would we like to pick something else off the menu .Never before have we experienced any thing like this before ,(we eat out on a regular basic) needless to say we left very disgruntled.

This pub has been a halfway meeting point for us and our friends for the last couple of years.3-4 times a year Todays visit is our last sadly! WHAT HAS GONE WRONG? The menu has been significantly reduced and quite unappealing. What we ordered from it was unavailable. There is no carvery. My wife had the Ploughs philly cheesesteaks sandwich which was appalling, just 3 x 20mm wide x 100mm long strips of meat a 50mm square of mozzarella, no chilliest just 3 strips of yellow bell pepper, in an enormous bread roll. We ordered drinks with ice and was told someone was currently buying it from the local supermarket, (it arrived in time) before our drinks were served. Then we had to order different starters which took an age to appear. Whilst we were in no hurry the mains didn't appear for over 20 minutes and had to be chased up. The young staff were unaccustomed to the menu and couldn't answer our questions without toddling off to ask someone. Generally nowhere near where this pub used to be, very disappointing experience today.

Popped in midweek for a carvery but unfortunately this option is off the menu midweek. We were not alone as others requested the same thing. I had the burger and my wife the ploughman's with a salad. Have to say granola with avocado and coriander was a tad left field. My burger was ok if a tad overcooked. Staff and service were both ok and not intrusive. In summary no carvery here during the week.

Very disappointing. Over the years we've enjoyed going to the P&H for a Sunday carvery, whereas today's visit was somewhat mediocre at best. To start with, the self-serve carvery was unavailable as it was "broken". We tried to order drinks at the bar upon arrival and were told we had to order from the table. This took a while. The beer my father requested wasn't available unless he wanted the dregs which, according to waitress, "tasted like dirt". He asked for an alternative and didn’t like it at all. The alternative to the self-serve carvery was a plated up Sunday roast, with no options other than choice of meat. For some reason, the prices on the printed out Sunday roast menu didn't match those on the main menu which in itself had also changed, offering much less options. It also took a while to get a waitress to take our food orders. When the food arrived, it was lukewarm and tasteless. The cauliflower cheese consisted of overcooked, mushy cauliflower and not a whiff of cheese. The roast potatoes were difficult to cut into then dry inside. The meat quantity was much less than "normal" and also tasteless. All in all, very disappointing and not worth £16/head. We then waited......and waited......and waited some more, until we lost the will to live and had to ask for someone to clear our plates and let us see the dessert options (by this point it was so late in the day, our options for going elsewhere for dessert were slim to non-existent). Desserts - very few to choose from. The "hot" chocolate fudge cake wasn't hot, and the "shortbread biscuits" with the creme brulee had transformed themselves into Lotus Biscoff plastic wrapped biscuits you get chucked in for free at coffee shops. The tables were sticky, there was a fly getting on our nerves that just wouldn't "do one" and my father felt he'd become invisible at the bar, he had to wait so long to pay. Unless things change, we won't be returning.

So very disappointing I've always loved this pub for food but our meal was shocking carvery was broken so we had plated up food which I think was from the lunchtime rock hard stuffing reheated roast potatoes too hard to cut up reheated meat which was dry just awful and for 16.95 a head definitely not worth the money on a plus the staff are lovelyv
