Most of us know that post pandemic many country pubs are suffering due the decline in customers and the current cost of living and every rising water and energy bills. The Plough inn is no exception and times have been hard. Even so, the landlady and her partner have worked tirelessly to try and get back on track. A new Cooker has been installed at a considerable cost and the eating lounge has has a lovely refurb. I went for a Sunday dinner with my partner and the meal was very tasty and my beef was tender and cooked to a perfection. My partner ordered roast chicken which went down really well. For deserts we were presented with a choice of typical English Sunday deserts, served with fresh cream or custard. We also ordered a bottle of red that was complementary with both meats and deserts. " The landlady has just started "Breakfasts at the Plough" every Saturday from 08.00am -11.00 am. Great breakfasts and great prices, served with fresh coffee, teas and fruit juices. The Plough also has live music nights, bingo, and pub quizzes. Plan some tie to drop in and I feel sure you will not be disappointed.

Perfect homely place to enjoy a pint. Good range of ales and nice decor. I didn't enter this traditional village pub expecting a modern gastronomic culinary experience like some of the other simpletons reviewing, so I wasn't disappointed at all.

Sat outside for a drink on a spring evening, two main problems 1. Smokers in all areas and none in the designated smoking area ! No matter where I sat there was a smoker right behind me. 2.the outside area was neglected, weeds everywhere, junk and old furniture piled up in the corners everywhere looked untidy and scruffy. What a shame as it could be so much better

Bodicote is an odd little place, on the map it looks like a suburb of Banbury, but if you get through the multitude of new housing estates, the older centre has a lovely country feel about it. In the heart of this, is the Plough Inn. A lovely little country pub that serves a good selection of ales, and a friendly welcome. The menu was varied and served both hot and cold food. Well worth a visit if in the area.

The Sunday evening before a bank holiday and The Plough was closed! They are definitely missing a trick by closing on a Sunday evening as the other pub in the village was packed out.

It was the first year that Kim Wynn (who is the landlady of The Plough Inn,Bodicote) , organised and hosted a New Years Eve Party and what a fantastic party it was. Kim had kept the ticket number for the event to a maximum of thirty people because she wanted to create an intimate social gathering with a friendly atmosphere and an opportunity to enjoy a conversation, the top class refreshments, the live entertainment, as well as her personal touch throughout the evening. Without doubt Kim and her partner Shaun were delightful hosts and ensured that each person was seated with their friends at a well decorated table. The buffet of food was fresh and well presented and each table was quickly replenished when the plate was empty. There was a champagne toast at midnight and each flute was quickly refilled and party poppers guaranteed some good humour and laughter. The two DJs, Steve Cracco and Johnny Angel played music from the 50s, 60s. 70s, as well as some well selected anthems. Jolina Blues duo provided the live music with two sets of good rocking electric blues. Kim kept the party going and her stylish attire which was especially rich and splendid due to her touch of a 1940s film star with sequins and black tailor cut trousers. Shaun Paul Sutton was faultless in his choice of a black tie and suit and his comfortable and stylish manner was reminiscent of “Lloyd” from the film "The Shinning".Perfect for New Years Eve. A great party with great people and at a great price. A must for next year. Thank you Kim and Shaun Paul Sutton.

Sunday lunch we thought we would try the plough. There were four adults and my 16 month old grandson. Sadly on arrival after stating they would set a table for four we were then told that there was no high chair for baby which of course caused us to cancel and walk away. Sorry Plough you lost 4 customers! Not a good impression and no apology. Please purchase a high chair!!

Unless you are a regular patron of this bar, I suggest avoiding it because you likely won't be made to feel welcome, as I found out. In fact this was actually the first time I had entered a bar and been made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Having had a pleasant afternoon walking the local fields, I thought a nice way to end the walk would be a pint in a pub which I hadn't yet sampled. Not long after entering The Plough in Bodicote, I waited patiently to be served and was dismayed to hear an old man, who was sat at the end of the bar, whine that "we see it all in here, don't we?" to which his equally retarded fellow drinkers chuckled and said " it would be a strange world if we all looked the same". Bear in mind, fellow reviewers that I was unremarkably dressed in tracksuit bottoms, an anorak and baseball hat, yet here I was being judged merely on my appearance. And as if the judgement of an old fart of a man wasn't bad enough, the female bar tender charged me £3.80 for a pint and then on giving me the change from a fiver changed her mind and on giving me back £1.10 said "sorry, it was £3.90" . For the sake of 10 pence and to be customer friendly she could have taken a hit and left the price at £3.80. This was, without exception the worst experience I have had in an English pub and I would not recommend the Plough. Go to the Jockey down the road instead, a pub that values your custom whether you are local or not!

We went in here during all the snow, for drinks after a dog walk and the landlord was so grumpy and rude. He called me a horrible name as i didnt have my purse with me and my dad was paying for the drinks. And to top it all he was even knowingly selling out of date crisps which were exchanged for a packet in date.

Whilst visiting the area we decided to stop for a coffee ( we were driving) and some food. We sat in the garden with our dog, which is unusual but quaint, and ordered coffee and baguettes. The drinks came quickly and the food, although cooked to order, followed shortly after, wonderful sausage and chutney and hubby had brie bacon & chutney bith with a side order of chips - wonderful - plently of filling and great value for money. The bar staff were chatty and professional, would highly recommend

Stopped off here briefly whilst waiting for an appointment to view a house in the village. Didn't have time for lunch so just drinks and crisps which were both good. The pub is obviously popular with locals and is what you'd hope a traditional English village pub would look like. My only point (and I hadn't read any TripAdvisor reviews before, just to be clear) was that the pub doesn't seem that welcoming to non locals!

decided to try somewhere different on good Friday 2017.chose the plough in bodicote because of how quaint it looked from the outside, should have realised by the empty restaurant that it was no good.when entering the lounge we were greeted with "what do you want " by an older miserable looking gentleman,we said we wanted a table for three at which point he moved off and sent a waitress over.she was nice and seated us at a table.we ordered 2 steaks and I had the small haddock.small was £7.00 large was £14.00,according to the menu ,and believe me it was small, the bowl was no deeper than an inch and the fish would have sat in the palm of your hand but it was cooked ok,and I only wanted a small portion.we did order another round of drinks and then asked for the bill as the place had no atmosphere whatsoever ,and for a bank holiday I felt there was nicer places to be.the bill came to just under £72.00,my husband said to me on the way home.upon checking the receipt when I got home I found them to have overcharged my husband on the haddock dish £14.00 !! absolute joke ,there was hardly anything there.ive tried 5 times this evening to ring them but there phone was always engaged.if you like a good pub with a good atmosphere and charge you for exactly what you have purchased then this is not the pub for you.what a rip off !!!!!!!!!! DONT BOTHER !! don't waste your money.

When we first arrived and got drinks it wasn't very welcoming at all. As if they didn't want us there as we wasn't local. Asked if they were serving food to which the lady serving said there's an hour wait. Even though there was only 2 people in the restaurant area at the time.Where we were finally seated and got the Sunday dinners they looked as though a child had cooked it. Frozen veg and frozen Yorkshire puddings. Certainly not work £9.50 each.If the owner is reading this, which I very much doubt , then maybe it will be a good idea to tell your waiting staff that it's common curtesy to ask the customer if they want to use contactless payment. I find it extremely rude them just taking your card and placing it on the reader to take payment. Especially when they haven't even shown you the bill. Will never return!

We went here with the intention to eat but wanted a refreshing drink first, when the bartender eventually looked up form his laptop he was very short and unwelcoming, found the bar to be lacking any atmosphere so tried the garden to find numerous tables with glasses and crisp packets left so decided not to eat and went to Spice rooms for an Indian which was great. Shame as nice little garden just needs some manage, net presence to keep the staff engaged to do what they are ultimately paid to do. Unlikely to go back even for a drink.

I've been to The Plough twice now for Sunday Lunch. The food is always tasty, good portions and arrives in a timely manner however the pub isn't very welcoming. The staff are a bit miserable and the decor is quite dated and drab. I think unless you're a local/regular to this pub the staff/landlord have very little interest in making you feel welcome. They could definitely do with some sort of customer service training or even just learning the basics of how to communicate politely to another human being rather than a series of grunts and tired looks.I appreciate people have off days but this is the 2nd time we have encountered this at this pub and judging by the other reviews we are not alone. On a more positive note the food was OK/good but there are plenty of other pubs/restaurants that are just as good or better. The menu is also pretty limited. If you fancy being treated like a piece of dirt on somebodies shoe then i'd definitely recommend. If you would like a normal restaurant meal experience then I'd recommend going anywhere but here.

I am very puzzled by a few of the recent comments. I found the landlord to be friendly and helpful - not a bit like the recent comments. We were looking for somewhere to have an early evening meal and stumbled on the Plough. We both ordered the steaks - and they were probably the best ones that we have had in many months. It is a pity that The Plough is 100 miles from home! Both the landlord and his wife could not have been more attentive and helpful.

Went today with a group of friends and family members. One of whom is my older autistic sister (19 yrs) who is extremely passionate about animals. When she asked for crisps she wasn't sure about the name so she asked for the "yellow" ones which made it perfectly clear to the landlord. But he just stared at her condescendingly. After that when a friend arrived with her dog, as I've mentioned my sister is extremely passionate about animals. She had paid and collected her crisps and so was therefore no business to the landlord. However she had crouched down to greet the dog enthusiastically. The dog's owner smiled at the land lord and said "Chloe clearly loves her" her being my sister. The landlord then quite rudely turned to our friend and said "she needs to grow up". Luckily my sister did not hear but obviously myself and the friend did.Later when he came to collect the glasses, my sister handed her glass to him but he ignored her and then thanked everyone else who handed them over.Frankly ruined our afternoon out and we shall not be going there again. Our life is hard enough without rude, ignorant people like him making it harder.

We live in the village and my husband popped over to try the new fish and chip takeaway deal last weekend, he came back saying the landlord had said kids were welcome as long as they didn't use the pub as a play ground. (FnC ok a little over priced) Great we thought. Today for my husbands birthday we thought we would pop over with the kids for an early evening drink. Upon arrival my 7 year old wanted to see what drink he could have so stepped up to the bar to look, the landlord barked "step away from the bar young man" he may as well have bitten him. Poor boy nearly cried but held it together. We understand pubs aren't for kids but we just sat quietly at our table at 6pm hoping to enjoy a family drink and chat. If we had been welcomed like we are in many other village pubs as a family we would have returned. There is however no way we will ever go back, we have lived here in Bodicote for 10 years and are still waiting for a decent pub to emerge. The spice room was much debated as a bad thing for Bodicote but their friendly staff and good service knock the socks off our dingy rude unwelcoming local The Plough!!! I wouldnt recommend it to friends.

I live in the village and heard great things about the food at The Plough, but much less favourable comments about the landlord but decided to brave it. Have been in twice now and have never made it as far as looking at the menu! Since recently moving to the village,I have visited this pub several times over the last few months. Inside is traditional and cosy, outside has a great beer garden which kids will love! i haven't eaten here so can't comment on the food although the menu looks nice. The beer is reasonable if lacking in variety. My biggest problem with this pub is the landlord, who is unwelcoming to the point of rudeness, and was certainly unwelcoming towards our children on one particular trip. He geniuenly (whether intentional or not) made us feel so unwelcome that we finished our drinks and vowed never to return to what we had hoped would be our new local.I really hope this place improves.

It's that time again, when my bowling buddies and I pick a place for a Christmas lunch, and this year this was it.The food is good: about half a dozen choices of each course , all very palatable, venison, duck, turkey etc; all with interesting sauces and signs of invention over the preparation. The beer is good; two Wadworths brews and a guest ale; nicely kept and most acceptable. However, the vegetables were served on very small dishes, which meant quite a bit was spilt on the tables: the crackers were a total waste of time and merely created extra litter: and the service was to say the least rather slow. We were the only customers in there, so I'm not sure what might have happened if others had walked in off the street. The 3 course meal was £30 , all but a penny, so not at all cheap, and I feel that if a place is going to charge this much , it ought to compare with the White Horse in Kings Sutton, or Coach and Horses in central Banbury, and at the moment, it doesn't.I would have given 3 and a half stars if such an option had been available, but - Ok it's Christmas!

Turned up just before midday half way through a dog walk and sat in the rather nice but small beer garden at the rear. I was looking forward to a drink and a rest but was startled when I asked for drinks at the bar and was told that I couldnt have a hot drink because there was no staff coming on for 20 minutes. It would have been acceptable if there had been an explanation or something other than a rude man just staring at me as if I had just walked into his personal living room and asked for a drink. It is a shame because I had been to this pub a few times over the years and had been treated well but this was unacceptable - we all have bad days but if you want a business to survive you should always treat a customer with respect!

The reader will be pleased to know that liquorice is not on the menu but plenty of much nicer things are! The new management has been in place for about six weeks and are going to make a good addition to the facilities in this pretty village three miles from Banbury.Expect to pay around £6 for starters, £13 to £15 for mains, and around £5 for a pud. Our choices included antipasti, tagine with couscous and pork fillet with a mushroom and cream sauce, modestly described as "lovely" by the menu and I wouldn't disagree. However, possibly the most interesting thing was the dessert "Middle Eastern Mess"! which was the usual creamy ,fruity concoction with additions of rose water and Turkish Delight. You can probably see now what I meant by the title of this review. This place is still a pub, though , and it is comforting to know that well kept Wadworth's bitter is also available.A very good start, folks - please keep it up!!
