Myself and two former colleagues agreed to meet up for an evening meal on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. One was travelling 25 miles from Bromley; the other from Crawley and myself from Reigate. We checked on the website which confirmed the kitchen was open on Tuesday evenings. Unfortunately, on arrival at 7.15pm, we found this not to be the case. The kitchen was closed and there was no chef available. The courteous staff explained it had been quiet on Mondays and Tuesday lately so a decision had been made not to serve food in the evenings. I said the website said it would be open. There were more apologies. Sadly we left this cosy pub and enjoyed a great meal at the Star down the road.

Menu was not as advertised on website. Basic meals offered. Ordered neal of chicken and leek pie with mash and vegetables. Chicken and ham pie was delivered. Mash was dry and vegetables delivered was a few spears of broccoli which did not constitute vegetables. Left half the meal, terrible. No apology.

We were a party of 9 and as soon as we arrived, we were greeted in a friendly manner. We ordered starters, mains and drinks- all of which arrived promptly. Every single one of us enjoyed our food; in particular the steak and Guinness pie which was the best pie I've ever had. Kudos to the chef. We definitely recommend and will ge returning at the next given opportunity. Thank you!

Kat and her staff accommodated our two family gathering (18 of us) for Sunday lunch with a prearranged menu in the lovely medieval attic rooms with our sole use for the afternoon. We cannot praise highly enough the service and food we enjoyed and the total ambience of this lovely old pub enhanced by the excellent attention of Kat and the chef who are now the owners.

Booked as it was Sunday and we thought it would be busy. When we arrived we were worried when we were told we could sit anywhere. We were the only people in the restaurant. Not a good sign! Service was appalling. Wait time for drinks and food was ages. Fortunately we hadn’t seen our friends for ages so we had plenty to talk about. We ordered two lamb roasts and two beef. My goodness they were bad. Covered in a brown water which I guess was gravy. Meat as tough as old boots and veg as hard as concrete. The only nice part was the horse radish sauce. Puddings were served in really hot bowls with Luke warm syrup sponge and custard. To get this took about four hours. I would have had another drink but after ordering it it never turned up. Thank goodness we had good company as normally this would have been totally inexcusable. Such a shame as the location and pub are beautiful. Unfortunately we should have checked the reviews before hand. Like so many you only check after a bad experience. Will be giving this establishment a miss in the future.

The staff were great BUT… Waited for 15 mins for an over gassed pint of Guinness to settle. Ordered food which was absolutely atrocious! Lasagne with pieces of gristle in the meat. Dried out mash, with even drier veg, along with what can only be described as unbelievably soggy pastry on a steak and Guinness pie, which was surely made at least a day or two before. My recommendation is to drive past and try somewhere else. The ‘quaint and lovely’ comments on here must be from people who never ate the food! We left the ‘food and guinness’, paid the £40 and left, very disappointed!

On a cold Tuesday there was a warm and pleasant atmosphere with friendly landlady. It's a lovely old pub with low ceilings and plenty of warnings to mind your head on low beams. There was a good beer selection and a good draft cider. There were four other tables occupied. We ordered a steak pie and a chicken pie with winter vegetables. We had wait a bit for the food but it was not excessive. The pies were pretty good, good pastry on top and with mostly tender meat with no gristle but a couple of chewy bits. Overall good. I would go again.

Meal for 7. Sat down at 3.20 and order quickly taken. Starters did not arrive until an hour later even though all but 2 were cold dishes. We waited until nearly 6 o'clock for our mains. Over 2 1/2 hours after ordering, even though the place was not busy (it was late afternoon). Four of the dishes immediately sent back. 3 were venison pie - in fact turned out to be small sections of a much larger pie that has obviously been reheated as they were all heavily overcooked and very dry - the gravy at the side of the pie slice was actually crispy! The other dish returned was slow cooked belly of pork that was as tough as old boots. It was served to a butcher who pointed out it was so thick it was clearly from a very old and large pig, hence the poor quality meat. Only main dishes that were edible were deep fried. 4 of us left the place hungry and upset at the experience This place used to be amazing. Seems to have changed hands and gone downhill. Chef needs the sack before he drags the place under. I'm very local (Capel) and they've lost my business until things change.

A lovely old English pub We booked a table a week ago for 5 for Sunday lunch. It was very busy, but we like a good pub atmosphere. Initially the table we were given was in a chilly area ( it is exceptionally cold today) we were moved without a fuss. A lovely lady apologised that there would be a delay with our food. We didn’t mind as we were warned, and we were comfy and having a nice time The food when it arrived was well worth waiting for, the staff were polite and accommodating. It isn’t a large venue and coped very well

6 of us thought we would go for the advertised super Sunday roast. We prebooked, they had full contact details, we arrived on time. They told us that the table was available but they had run out of food! No thought to contact us and stop us from travelling some distance for a non event, and we were hungry. The Star in Rusper came to the rescue, accomodated us, initially with difficulty but as soon as a table came available we were seated and had an amazing Sunday lunch, thank you Kosta. Needless to say we will not bother with The Plough again

Just a shambles start to finish. Our first contact at the Plough was very sporadic in whether he would reply to emails or not. He got all the booking details wrong and could rarely be contacted. A second manager then took over and again was liable to not reply to any emails - meaning that requests made in good time were completely ignored and people got the wrong meals on the day. On the day the service was very messy. Some of the food was good, but some of it - particularly vegetarian options - were just plain bad. Then the day after, which happened to be my wedding day, the pub started accusing guests (who had fortunately kept their receipts) of not paying. We sent receipts and bank statements but quite stressful really. Another sign of their just fundamental disorganisation. It is probably a good locals pub for a pint but they shouldn’t be doing big group bookings if they can’t actually handle it. I would strong advise avoiding if more than four people.

Under new ownership and food was good enough, not spectacular but decent enough. The charcuterie board was all bread and olives with very little meat which was a little disappointing, let’s just say had better. But overall friendly atmosphere, not back to its former glory, food was coming out but the waitress didn’t have a clue to which table it was ordered by so room for improvement.

The Plough and Attic rooms has had a real roller-coaster ride over the last few years. After a troubled period it became one of our favourite go-to pub/eateries when Time Well Spent took it over, especially with Amanda as manager. It was taken over again just before Covid struck (you have to feel so sorry for the poor lady who sunk her money in with such bad timing) but even when it opened it felt like a team that were struggling to find their feet.Spotting that it was open again, now run as part of a small chain by the aptly named Revived Inns, we booked in on Saturday to give it a whirl. The welcome was warm, friendly and professional, with the manager, Rob, and the chef both stopping at our table to chat. The menu was fairly short (actually a reassuring and good thing although it looks like it will develop in future) with a couple of specials to expand the offering. We went for garlic bread with cheese (main menu) with salmon bons bons (specials) as starters and katsu chicken burgers from the specials board as mains.Garlic bread was tasty, generous and absolutely laden with cheese, salmon bon bons (sort of round croquette balls) were delicious, and the mains absolutely on point. Portions all round were substantial so think twice before over-ordering!All in all a great start, with great food, great service and a friendly welcome to a fantastic old pub from an utterly professional team.

After the wonderful service and meal from the previous night, my friend and daughter booked for Sunday lunch the following day. on arrival and being seated we was told the roast beef had gone, also the Yorkshire puddings, but in its place was extra potatoes and veg. My friend decided to continue with the chicken, half a chicken thigh, some cauliflower cheese, some carrots and green beans( she'd been looking forward to the beef), I had a home made burger and chips. The waitresses and waiters was helpful and attentive. The meals came out in good time and all drinks ordered was fine. However, my friends meal came out with a ( single )new potato cut in half to make two. So my friend asked where the potato was. The waiter had been told they'd ran out, but was still taking orders for roast dinners. My meal was gorgeous, expect the side salad had no tomato, cucumber etc. just some rocket. After complaining 3 or 4 times about my friends meal I asked for a discount for her meal ( £5) was taken off themeal had cost £14.50 I asked for a chocolate and raspberry torte which had been amazing the night before and presented extremely well. However, it came out to me in a messy lump, it looked like the base had been left behind and there wasn't much left in the tin so was heaped onto a plate. I spoke to the waiter, he took it back to chef, but came back out to say that's how it's supposed to be. I had another look at it as I thought that maybe I was over reacting, it was very clear it had been scrapped out the cake tin. So I explained to the waitress that had come over that I wouldn't be consuming it or paying for it. Again, I can not fault the front of house staff.

I lived locally in this village and the plough has had a few owners, it used to be really great food and a lovely atmosphere and granted we are still in a pandemic but I visited on one of the eat out to help out days unintentionally, thank goodness I did because I wouldnt have paid full price for the food. We both had x2 Sirloin steaks that came with chips, onion rings, tomatos, salad and a cooked mushroom which presented well. The steak was 85% grissle in both of ours which was so dissapointing. The surver didnt even ask us why we had left so much so we couldnt get a chance to feedback. It was really quiet in the resturant where as the other pub across the way we couldnt even get a table. I just really think they need to work on there food, this isnt the first time that I have had a poor meal there before that I had a pie and it was so dry which is not what you want from a hearty pub pie. Also in the past we have been kept waiting at the bar for 15/20 minutes when its quiet to be told that they are not serving food anymore. I really hope they do something about the food because before it used to be such a busy pub with a great atmosphere and I think it complements Rusper so well.

Things were looking good when the starters arrived. The halloumi fries were crispy and the chilli dip lovely. However things went rapidly downhill with the main courses. The fish and chips were oven chips and a packet battered cod fillet that was soggy and greasy and plonked on top of the peas making them equally as greasy. The pie of the day was dry and lacked any pie gravy. The mash had far too much whole grain mustard, the vegetables were cold and overcooked and the gravy in the jug could have been sliced it was so thick. We skipped dessert to save the chef opening another packet.

A new chef had just started, who was MORE than accommodating to our requests. Definitely the best fish and chips we've had in a long time, Sunday roast plentiful, pie of the day very tasty. If you want traditional pub grub with a typical country pub atmosphere, this is the place to visit. Disappointing visit. Staying in Crawley so used the Government eat out initiative to find somewhere local, but not part of a big chain. The Plough and Attic rooms came up on the list, a look at the website matched the kind of place we were looking for so we booked a table for 7:30.Upon arrival we were seated with menus and left to make our choices. no problems with social distancing as we were the only people at our end of the restaurant. 20 minutes later we were finally asked if we were ready to order food and drinks. We ordered some drinks which arrived quick enough, Nachos to share and hot chicken wings were ordered, these took around 45 minutes to come. A weak apology for the delay was given, but no explanation. The starters were simple, but tasty enough, and were eaten a lot quicker than they took to come. The mains then took another 20 minutes to come. Mixed grilled, spaghetti carbonara and a cheese burger. The steak on the mixed grill was well done, not medium as requested, there wasn’t a trace of pink. Service was poor, we had to ask for a spoon as we were left with a knife and fork to eat spaghetti. The mixed grill was OK apart from the over cooked steak and the onion rings from a shop like Iceland. the Spaghetti Carbonara was strange as it was drowning in a cheese sauce, so not a traditional carbonara. The garlic bread on the menu was also not served. The burger was OK.At the end we asked for the bill and paid, there was no “how was it” or “was everything ok” as though they already knew it wasn’t.So overall not a pleasant experience from somewhere that has the promise of a good evening out.

Was with a party of seven who had a weekend lunch in January, at the beginning of 2020. All of us have dined here before a number of times and things are not as good as they were. I understand the pub might be under new management and has a new chef: if so, they need to get some fundamental basics right.First, I though it fairer to email feedback directly (a good few days ago now) but have had no response or even an acknowledgment. This is the not the right way to deal with customers trying to give constructive, discrete feedback. Secondly, the food that is served is not as described on the menu e.g. brioche bun for the burgers (actually served in a plain white bap); fries with skins (actually normal fries without skins); homemade burgers (but they looked and tasted like frozen burgers and not like we have enjoyed previously); and, a choice of nut roast (but this is now no longer even on the menu when you ask). These discrepancies are at best careless; at worst misrepresentation. Thirdly, there is now little choice for vegans or even vegetarians. Service at the table was good, however, and we didn't have to wait long...but we all noticed the pub was almost empty. For a Sunday lunchtime, we thought this unusual (it is normally very busy). An otherwise old, cosy pub, with a nice ambience. But they really need to get their menu corrected and standard of food made much better than it is currently.

The ladies who served us were very attentive and chatty, they kept the cake we brought to side and brought it up as requested. Really enjoyed my dinner here so would def come again, and my dad also loved his meal for his birthday. Easy parking across the road although very very dark at night but not an problem with torch on phone.

This is just how I like my pubs - warm, cosy, low ceilings and wooden beams. Two friendly ladies greeted us on Saturday night, making us feel very welcome. Thanks for the tips on the different gins! The food was excellent, too. Really good value for money and absolutely delicious. I hope to visit here again.

Just out for a drive and thought a stop for drinks where there was a garden would be relaxing. G&T; a rekorderlig cider and two bags of crisps came to £14.20. Maybe its a while since we went out just for a drink but it seemed very pricey.

Having had several previous good meals here over the years, I wanted to impress two US visitors with a traditional meal in a traditional country pub. What an embarrassing disappointment. The food was unbelievably poor and the service, if I am being generous, was inexperienced. I can't believe that I drove past so many better venues to go there. I won't again.

We went on quiz night for the quiz. Food took ages to arrive- nearly an hour. Two of the starters were ok but the salad starter was poor and served in an enamel cooking dish. Two of the four main dishes were dreadful. The fish of the fish and chips was cold and tasted of cardboard. Chips were hard and dry . The scampi and chips little better. The curry was quite good but very limited in quantity. The burger was apparently good.

Decided to try their garden for an early supper last week as the weather was so nice, arrived just before 6pm to blag a sunny table in the garden. Half a dozen other customers floating around -mostly drinkers with only one other couple eating who got their food after maybe 20 mins. I had to ask where ours had got to after nearly 40 minutes and it then miraculously appeared. Quality was OK ( wife's chicken was a bit gristlier than it should have been) portion size OK, nothing to write home about on either side, drinks a bit dearer than our local but it was very disappointing to have such a long wait for two standard meals ( ie no special preparation time) when the kitchen was obviously not busy. I don't like having to chase around to see where our order has got to, it shouldn't be needed in a service orientated environment like this.

We are staying at the Manor just down the road and last night we walked into to the village after our meal and decided we would walk to The Plough & Attic tonight for a meal. As Tuesday night the pub looked very busy which turned out to be a quiz night , we decided to call on Wednesday lunch time to book out table. The staff were very friendly and chatty and helpful in recommending our choice of drinks and meals from the menu. The inside of the pub is very quaint and typical of a country pub from 16th century. When the food arrived at our table I was taken back, I had ordered the homemade chicken, leek and bacon pie with fresh vegetables and mash potato. It was very filling and tasteful , my wife ordered jacket potato with tuna , slaw and salad. We had a break and then tackled the sweet menu ordering the chocolate brownie with ice cream and sauce. Our overall experience was excellent and if in the area again we would call back.

After months of planning and plotting, and a long walk from Ifield station (beware--it's not easy on the narrow roads), I at last arrived at the Plough. What struck me first was the extremely good music--a medley of first-class 1970s hits. The pub feels a cut above an ordinary boozer, with many creative touches such as artistic pots on ledges and a wooden duck by the window. The black beams and fireplace look the real deal, but there are also plenty of new-looking red leather chairs at the dining tables. I wish there hadn't been live candles on the tables, however.

This was a birthday celebration in one of the upstairs rooms. The pub itself is quirky and full of character. Event room upstairs was a perfect size for our party of c25. The staff were accommodating and very helpful, they couldn't have done more, bringing drinks upstairs etc.

The menu looks good, but it tastes even better and the service is always with smile. The ceilings are very low and it’s a beautiful old fashioned English pub. Better for couples and friends though, not all that kid friendly.

What a beautiful pub, with a lovely large garden perfect for sitting out on a sunny day. We took mum for lunch and had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We all enjoyed the food so much so we had pud as well. The Aussie burger and homemade chips was the best burger I have had. And the posset for dessert, well what can I say just outstanding. Thank you we shall be back.

Went in to get a drink and snack with my family, the place was virtually empty with only two tables dining. This was too much for them to handle so after the staff walked past me 4 times without acknowledging me I decided to take me custom to a pub in Charlwood. I was greeted with a smile and lovely service. The Plough seem to think I should be grateful to be in its Pub. Never again.

After a long day exploring the countryside, my boyfriend and I stop at The Plough Inn for a drink, we sat at the bar in this quaint pub and asked for two glass of wine the lovely barmaid convinced us to share the bottle instead. We were not planning on staying for food as we said to the barmaid but after Amanda, the manageress, caught me eyeing up the game and vegetable cassrole being taken to other guests by the fireplace, she promptly showed me the menu and I couldn't resist. It was a beautiful meal and just what was needed on these cold January evening. the food was 5* and the service and venue matched! We will be going back again and again.

Good quality Sunday roast. Price is a bit more expensive than other places but you are paying for a better meal. The place has a good atmosphere, a traditional old country pub/restaurant. Booking is advisable at busy periods as it can be difficult to get a table. They don’t appear to rush you so they can turn tables, which means you can have a leisurely meal. The menu hasn’t got a wide selection but what it does have is good quality food.

A birthday meal for my son this evening was disappointing. One person ordered a starter but this was served at the same time as his main course (whitebait and chicken) . They did take the chicken back and served one later which we were told was freshly cooked but whoever would want these 2 dishes together. The manager? did apologise. The meals were slow to arrive and edible but mediocre. Service was not good, plates passed in front of other people despite room behind the table and without an 'excuse me'. I can only assume it was untrained, new staff. It was my second visit here but I will not be returning.

Great food and service in a great old pub. A real shame the advertised Gluten Free and Vegen menu no longer exist. Saying we can sort out a Gluten Free meal is one thing, then having no GF bread and only one GF sweet is very disappointing.

The Plough is a pub/Resturant which is old so old that one has to stoop due the low beams which can be challenging,... set in rural Rusper a time capsule village. We a party of 20 were led to the upstairs/attic which again showed off its antiquity with oak floorboards and thick heavy furniture. The meals which did take a while to materialise wholesome food although not a la carte were all well cooked. The service added to the occasion where patience and smiles were the currency of the day, with the prices being amazingly good value...REALLY!!!

We had my daughters birthday party here it ended up being 45 kids/parents in total. The staff were absolutely brilliant, so helpful, polite and kind. The food was brilliant, we did a massive order and it all came out pretty much the same time. They made such an effort with every aspect. Absolutely recommend for a party, my daughter had such a brilliant day.

Service very good. Food so so. I had full English with poached eggs. Hash Brown's very good. Eggs cold. Bacon hard. Tea bag left in the tea cup - which was OK- but nowhere to put it. Pancakes - 3 - came with 3 fried eggs which was a surprise.
