As a stop gap from our hike, this amazing little place was a very welcome sight. We sat outside in the beautiful garden terrace with its own “tiki bar” area. Staff were all super friendly and helpful, even when we decided to change seats! The food! Wow! Seriously nice, great service too. Highly recommend this pub, will definitely be back to visit!

A very short drive out of town, but well well worth it. Went here for lunch after doing a walk around the Seven Sisters. Was nice and warm inside with great music and the food was absolutely amazing. Not your typical pub grub but had more of a home-made feel and taste to it. Portion sizes are very generous. Service was friendly and wait staff knew the menu. Highly recommend The Plough and Harrow for a lunch or dinner.

The Plough and Harrow – A gorgeous 16th-century pub full of charm, set in a stunning valley. The fish pie was probably the best I’ve ever had—rich, hearty, and perfectly done. Only downside: no Guinness on tap. Still, a must-visit for food and atmosphere!

Disappointed with the food options on the new menu. Had the chicken skewers with couscous which was very poorly flavoured with plain unseasoned couscous and no salad or dressing. Very basic for the price. Won’t be rushing back. Service was however very good, but the menu should be reconsidered.

Had friends from London to join us for an Easter meal which sadly did not meet our expectations. All the meals were disappointing regarding taste, the (flavours of India shepherds pie was very bland with an almost non existent taste of India present. Next was the overpriced (Harissa chicken skewers) with a bland cous cous pitta bread and plain yoghurt, this once again had no taste and very much lacking that Harissa flavour. The (long man beer battered cod) had very oily batter and finally the from the specials board the (chicken pie) arrived with a burnt crust and lacked flavour. Overall we were very disappointed and feel the price charged does not reflect on the poor quality of food served up on this occasion. We expected more.

Hit and miss. Had great food here, but yesterday was bad. We sat outside as it was a lovely day, and paid upfront as outside. My order was wrong, they offered to leave the fish pie, or wait for my correct order to be done. As my husbands was on the table, I didn't want to wait and eat on my own after him, or his get cold while waiting. The fish pie was poor, it was over run with cheese, was just about all I could taste, and very sloppy potato. I had to scrap off the cheese as so much of it, and fish out, the fish, from the sloppy potato.I know some people do like under cooked green beans, but they were pretty raw not for me, we both left most of them. All in all I left most of the meal and was hungry. Was offered another free drink for the mistake, but we didn't want another and my husband was driving. Nothing else was offered. There were no courtesy checks, and the staff disappeared altogether when we had done with our meal . We waited a while but no one came to clear plates or ask if we wanted desserts. Such a shame it was so bad, as have had good here. Has put us off going again as worried it won't be any good.

Very poor. We had ham, egg and chips. The ham was watery with no texture or flavour. The chips were good but surely for £17.50 they could have avoided serving some of the worst ham I've ever eaten. Very poor service as well. The bar said they would not bring our food into the garden and insisted we collected out plates from the bar. I've had better service and food at a school dinner. Pretty dreadful experience on all levels

This is our local, and has such a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, but unfortunately the food is very hit and miss. Last night we had a meal there, the chips were amazing, the battered fish the worst I've ever tasted - soggy, chewy batter and dry overcooked fish. The waitress only asked how our meal was once we'd finished and I did say 'do you want the truth?' and told her, which she said she'd feedback to the kitchen. I have had good fish and chips there in the past, but this was like it was cooked at lunchtime and re-heated. The side of 'tenderstem brocolli, sauteed chilli' at £5 was a small portion of brocolli, no sign of chilli or any oil or butter. It's a shame as it's such a lovely pub, but in future we'll just go to drink not eat, unless we can guarantee better food!

Today we had a Sunday lunch/dinner at the Plough and Harrow. This was the best Sunday pub lunch I’ve had in 40years! Food was excellent, roast dinner with plenty of gravy and all the trimmings accompanied by a lovely pint of Longman’s beer. Not only was the food delicious but the waitress brought round additional helpings (for free) of roasties, gravy and Yorkshire puddings! The service was the best I’ve ever experienced! Super quick and really friendly. I am a regular pub goer from Derbyshire and today was why I love English pubs, lovely people, top service and great food! 10/10! A must and I’ll be back! Thankyou! Sunday lunchtime on a wet and super windy day, we stopped here on our 8 mile walking route from Alfriston. Classic old pub with low beams and plenty of atmosphere, staff very welcoming and constantly asked if we needed any drinks etc. We all choose the Venison Pie 🥧 which was absolutely delicious, plenty of meat and great flavour. We all drank the Longman beers which is the local brewery and complimented the meal perfectly. We will return 👏👏🤩🤩

A lovely village pub that I've been frequenting for several years. It has a lovely beer garden which was refurbished during the COVID lockdown. There is now a decked area in addition to tables on the lawn. There is a serving hut where some beer and food orders can be taken. The pub currently stocks the Long Man beers which are brewed a mere 320 metres away at the brewery. I had a delicious lunch here yesterday (Sunday 11th Aug 2024). Food really was extremely bad. Fish was not fresh, felt barely cooked. My partner's bean and sweet potato burger was pretty much just mashed sweet potato with something that tasted like marmite. I think it might have been the worse meal I've ever had in a restaurant. When asked how our food was we said it was not good and just got a pained sorry from a young server but that was it. No-one came out to speak to us, manager or chef. Pint was nice, chips were fine but it is not a gastro pub by the longest chalk. My partner did not want to make a fuss so we just left. Will not go again.

What a gem of a pub... Really nice food and atmosphere. Very clean and inviting. Loads of outside tables with views of the Sussex downs and county side. Carpark was reasonable size but would think it could be busy in Summer. Prices are comparable to other pubs and possibly lower than across the river in Alfriston. Had a fantastic meal and will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Looking forward to walking or cycling down from Seaford and using the beer garden in summer.... Update just popped in today (Friday lunch) no reservation but they did find us a table for 4 car park was filling up and a few braving the weather in the beer garden. Just after us a table of 6 walked in no reservation and that was the pub full. Thought we would be waiting due to being busy but food came out well cooked and tasty and in good time. The Plough and Harrow is an absolutely lovely pub. We visited as a party of seven with three dogs and were seated at a table inside. Our drinks order was taken really quickly and when we had an issue with one of the drinks they immediately remedied it. We ordered four Franco chicken burgers, one fish and chips and two beef burgers. The food came really quickly and was absolutely delicious. The chicken burgers were a whole chicken breast that had been lightly battered, with a delicious homemade slaw and the chips were divine. The beef burger was similarly really nice and had loads of fresh salad in it. Just wished the chip portion was a bit bigger. When the child's beef burger came the kids meal had more chips than the adults meal did, as they put them in little metal pots for the adults meals. The inside of the pub is lovely it has loads of fairy lights and old fashioned swirly light bulbs. The staff members were really helpful. There were lots of menus around so we didn't have to share and the whole pub itself looked really clean. The toilets were also clean. That was a good range of seating inside as well as outside in the beer garden and further down past the car park there's also an additional garden with seating. The Plough and Harrow is obviously very popular as it was very busy and we went. I can see why, we had a lovely meal and we'll definitely be going back.

First visit with family for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it! Arrived at 1pm, found seating easily (dog friendly too). Ordered from the counter, cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, fish finger sandwich and bacon and brie panini, two mugs of tea and a water. All arrived quickly and presentation was well executed, side salad and pot of crisps. Condiments available from the counter. Staff were friendly and attentive, a nice atmosphere with lots of customers coming and going. Nice and clean, cannot fault anything. Highly recommend !
