" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!

Never been to the plough myself, heard all fantastic things about the pub and food, until today when me and my partner went for an early lunch, both enjoyed the Sunday menu and got beef baguette with home made chips, they also catered to our needs by swapping stuffing around onto on of our baguettes, allowing my partner to have both beef and turkey with the same price and also adding an extra Yorkshire pudding on my dish, the meat was absolutely to die for, melt in your mouth kinda of meat😍 Didn’t wait long at all and bar and waiting staff were all fantastic and welcoming, the portions was absolutely massive and prices are spot on! £26 that came to with two pints on top! Can’t beat it will defiantly be going again what a wonderful place and atmosphere and most defiantly what amazing food

The Thai food here that is on Fridays and Saturdays is absolutely incredible! Authentic, fresh, decent sized portions, the food was all perfect, only lost a star because it took 30 minutes of searching the internet, Facebook, ringing and eventually having to add the owner on Facebook to access the menu by message.Simple fix though, just update Facebook site/website. Wait times were longer than expected but we sat and had a pint so wasn’t bothered. All in all, very happy and would 100% recommend to others, owner was very apologetic about wait times and pub was nice and only just over a fiver for a pint and a half of San Miguel! 😍

Called for the Sunday dinner this week. Went to bar to get drinks before we ordered only to be told they don't accept payment by card. It meant going to find a cash point in the area so left without eating. First impressions of the place wasn't good.

Came out as a party of 10 for a birthday meal. All the food was amazing children had the usual chicken nuggets and chips but they was real chunks of chicken and homemade chunky chips. There was normal menu and a tapas menu we opted for the tapas which was out of this world. I couldn’t fault a thing after reading a few bad reviews I was nervous but the food was top rated. Other people ordered from the normal menu which was also impressive.

Went here for Sunday lunch after having it recommended. It was like going back in time the decor was in desperate need of an upgrade not at all as the photo on the website. Shown to a table and ordered drinks, the waitress said "I'll bring you a list!!" She came with the choice of starters and meats on a scrap of paper NO MENU!! Therefore no prices or what the food was served with. We ordered the Starters were OK main course was not very good burnt Yorkshire pudding soggy parsnips and a tureen of vegetables that were just sat in water but there was plenty meat and tasty. There was a young waiter wandering around with a drink which looked unprofessional. The lady who seemed to be in charge was friendly but sadly let down by her young waiting staff who I guess had never had any training or been told what to do .

Had Sunday lunch here recently and was pleasantly surprised. They are under new management. Friendly staff. Plenty of food on the plate and vegetables in a separate dish. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Starters were lovely too. Didn't have enough room for a pudding unfortunately but they did look good. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the restaurant itself needs updating. I'm sure they will get round to that soon.

The Plough finally seems to be getting good and we now count ourselves as regular clientele on the Sunday lunch circuit (as do, as evidenced by its popularity, many others!). In its latest incarnation, you can now count on good beer at the place - ales and lager. And at reasonable prices too.I've eaten at the Plough during the week at dinner time when it's much quieter. It's standard fare stuff but a good price for pub grub - panini and the like. Nice presentation and chunky chips.Sunday lunch is where it's at though and, having avoided carvery like the plague for years (decades even) we accidentally ended up there for one on one particular Sunday. And we're glad we did! Firstly, the starters - the menu isn't overly imaginative - it's a local pub after all - but the mushroom gondolas filled with pate are nice. Other staters include garlic mushrooms (nice), soup of the day (decidedly average when we tried it) and pate (perfectly acceptable). But it's the carvers where the chef comes into his own. Firstly, they make sure the chef is ready to serve you before you take to the plates. A nice touch. Secondly, there's always three choices of freshly cooked meat and a medley is a good choice. Dominic the chef explains how he's cooked each joint and how he's tailored the veg to suit. As such, it's a nice experience with a personal touch. Large portions are always provided, the veg is great (better than most non-Cavery veg), the gravy plentiful and sauces complementary. I usually hate carvery but I love this one and so does the family! Deserts are like the starters - good value but standard fare - i.e. Value for money and perfectly acceptable but won't be rivalling any Michelin star outlet anytime soon. The girls behind the bar and serving the food are fab, giving great service and with a smile too! All in all, if you want an inexpensive, good value for money, tasty Sunday lunch with nice service in friendly surroundings then this will tick the boxes - and it's nice to see The Plough getting it right for their local clientele and showing other locals how to do it. Bravo!!

We come here regularly for a drink. The bar area is great, lovely atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. We've come occasionally for food on a Sunday. The food is ok. This time we came, the yorkshires were burnt, and everything was a bit tasteless. However, my starter and pudding were excellent. We used to love coming for the homemade pie. This used to be a wedge of great tasting pie and homemade chips. This made the visit for us every time. They've changed it though to an individual pie in a small dish with a pastry lid. It's quite tasteless and dry so this is a real shame. Can't complain at the price though, three courses for £11.95 is excellent. We've never tried the food in the week so I'm not sure what it's like. We'll still come for drinks and the amazing atmosphere but might give the food a break for a bit.

My wife and I took our grand daughter of nearly two years to the plough for lunch yesterday . It is under new management and was obviously a change for the better from the moment we walked through the door . We were greeted by a very friendly barman and shown to a table we both had a latte from a proper coffee machine and the girl made a baby chino for our grand daughter who demolished it it one and wanted more ( must have been good ) . The menu had plenty of choice I had chicken tikka lasagne it was perfect not too dry but not a sloppy mess spot on , my wife had fish and chips which was made with beer batter not some pre frozen bought in 3663 rubbish but the best of all was the childrens menu we ordered fish fingers and chips but when it came it was home made fish gougons again proper food no rubbish . How refreshing to get real food at such a great price too . If you have children try it . If you havnt try it aswell you will not be dissapointed

My husband and I live locally and used to go to the plough for a bar snack regular, the plough pie and mushroom gondolas were well known and very popular, sadly the pub changed hands and plough pie was no more !! then we heard the original chef was back... yay turned into a nay after we tried the so called Marilyns plough pie, thought perhaps we had had ordered from the kids menu judging the portion size of all of it,the pie with the burnt undercrust the veg and the undercooked roast potatoes ,but not quarter of the price of course!!! Shame .

Read the reviews of this place and they were very good. Booked a table for 4 as advised. Arrived at 6pm and the dining room was empty!!! The pub itself is a bit worse for wear. Anyway we ordered food from a confusing menu. No starters or desserts were on it, they were on the Sunday lunch menu. The food, though prompt and well presented was at best average. Don't think I will visit again.

Located in the middle of nowhere in a sort of "no man's land"" between Huddersfield, Batley and Dewsbury, the Plough is a local's pub where occasional visitors and passers by are welcomed. There are two bar areas, a pool room and a restaurant - or dining room as the stained glass panel in the door has it.Inside, the decor is traditional, yet bright and clean - more country pub than urban local. The bar offers the usual range of beers etc, and includes a couple of local Guest Beers. The food menu is largely English Staple, but is well cooked and presented and does not scrimp on quantity. The staff are pleasant, service is good, and the over 60s qualify for a discountWith real fires and good coffee, this is a delightful place to pass a leisurely lunchtime

Wasn't too sure what to expect, we used to go to the railway in mirfield until it changed hands - and had heard the chef had moved to the plough. It seemed exactly the same set up - ie. 3 courses for £9.95 so fantastic value. Lovely large dining room, friendly staff. Food slightly better than average. We had prawn cocktail and soup which were both good, and a meat and potato pie with chips (yummy) and a beef roast dinner. The roast potatoes were pretty disappointing and the veg were limited with carrots and cabbage. Overall, you can't complain really for that price - will probably go again.

Amazing Sunday breakfast. It looks closed when you drive in to the car park and if you try to get in through the restaurant door you will still think it’s closed. Be creative go to hotel reception, no obvious sign just look for the door. If you are persistent you will be delighted by the breakfast. We went for Fathers Day breakfast. Choice of raspberries, strawberries, melon, yogurt cereal etc. Followed by cooked breakfast made to order. Beautifully cooked ingredients which. I couldn’t resist toast and marmalade to finish. Choice of a pot of tea or coffee. My only criticism would be that the coffee could be a little stronger but that’s my preference. A lovely food experience sat at a white starched table cloth in a calm environment with lovely staff.

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .
