Our lovely friends treated us to tea out and what a lovely meal we had. Mini crab cakes for me, Scampi for him. Extremely tasty and the home made coleslaw was delicious and worthy of a mention. Portion size is big so go hungry! Great atmosphere, very welcoming. Our first visit but we will return. Sunday lunch next time!

We tried this pub for an evening meal, wanting to support the new owners at a local pub. Unfortunately the landlord was only interested in chatting to his mate and it seemed a great inconvenience when he had to come over and serve us a drink, let alone show us to a table. The landlady tried harder, but it was a bit disconcerting to hear the only vegetarian/vegan option be described as "for weirdos". Much of the limited menu was unavailable as it had been prepared several days before and some options had run out. What we had was bland and tasteless. The emphasis was fairly on quantity over quality. We weren't able to wash away the taste with another drink as the landlady couldn't take our order due to having to serve the one other table of diners. She shouted over to the landlord who never came to take our order. And if you thought they were rude about vegetarians, you should hear their views on foreigners! Positively backward. Won't be going back.

I stopped off at The Plough when I was staying nearby on my way to Norfolk. Bill and Jane made me very welcome, stopped to chat to me and presented me with a cracking chicken Caesar salad and a pint of Tydd Steam ale. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Unexpected, spontaneous lunch time visit on Monday 29th July with five others on an outing from local nursing home. We couldn't negotiate the step down to the beer garden and entrance with wheelchairs and electric wheelchair so, instead of turning us away, the landlord and landlady set us up with a table and chairs in a shady spot in the car park. Brilliant! Normally quiet on a Monday, this one was particularly busy but this was no problem, even though re-flooring was planned and business was not expected to be brisk! Great food, sensible portions, kind and considerate service; all good - we will return!

We arrived at this Fenland pub on a Monday lunchtime with a minibus from a nearby nursing home Although Monday is apparently a slow day the staff cannot be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent, I haven't had and enjoyed a fishfinger buttie so much for years! Definitely a return is on the cards and can genuinely recommend a visit!

Visited on 20th April, party of 4. An excellent experience. Real ale, good selection of wines. The menu and specials were varied and suited most tastes. We had nachos and soup for starters followed by rib combos, chilli, fishcakes with an excellent lime tartar sauce. Overall we had a very pleasant and enjoyable evening. We left the table full and the food was very good. we shall visit again without question.

The Plough has recently changed hands, so now it is open on regular hours rather than needing an almanack to calculate opening hours. The Sunday menu is purely roast meals...but what lunches! Every element is delicious but the gravy deserves special mention. I'm hard to please when it comes to roast potatoes but these are as good as my own.

Been I few times now, with my partner & then with a group of friends, great atmosphere & food is delicious, Sunday roast is spot on & gravy to die for, we’ve had a few different meals now & cant complain about any that we’ve had, the mince & tatties which was on the specials board was absolutely lovely, great propper homemade food, just what we expected from a small village pub, & to top it off the prices are fabulous too, I definitely recommend to give this little place a try, you won’t be disappointed 👍

I telephoned to book a table and explained I was a vegetarian. I said that if I were not able to find something on the menu, would I be able to have a Ploughman's. The new Manager said I could but I stressed that I was only asking and that it wasn't a definite. My friends and I went along and told the man behind the bar that we had a table booked and he said "Oh yes, one of you is having a Ploughman's aren't you?" I said again that it wasn't a definite. The Manageress then came through and said the same thing. I told her that I hadn't decided yet as I wanted to look at other options and she said "Well I've got it ready now!" I asked if the cheese was Vegetarian and she told me that "All cheese is vegetarian" I went on to explain that it isn't and she answered that she couldn't see why it couldn't be. I explained the source of rennet in a non-vegetarian cheese. Whilst we were talking to her, she was fussing her dog around it's face and when she saw us look, she said "Oh, I'd better go and wash my hands now! My mind flicked to the plate of Ploughman's that was sitting in the kitchen and I wondered if she'd washed her hands before preparing that. We went and sat down and had our meal which included the Manageress's "home-made coleslaw" I'm not too sure about the food law facts on this but I do have my doubts on it. Whilst we were eating, the dog was pushing under our table which in my book is a no-no although I love all animals. There is a time and place for dogs in eateries and not everyone feels the same love of animals as I do. After we had finished our meal, we waited for someone to bring the dessert menu. And waited.....Eventually one of us went and asked if we could order dessert and we were told "We're not a pudding type of pub" We were then told that there were a few bits of puddings left from the previous Managers and we could have those. However, no-one came to our table to take the order. I cannot understand how anyone in catering can be a non-pudding place. It's easy to order from Cash & Carry or Supermarkets or Food wholesalers where desserts are already portioned out. So...feeling very miffed one way and another, we paid the bill and left. When the previous Manageress was there, there was never any questions over food. It was always delicious and plentiful. It was always a lovely atmosphere and the desserts were wonderful. The fact that my Ploughman's had already been plated up, made me feel obliged to have it even though there was something else on the menu that I would have liked. Our little group will not be going back there again, unless the previous lady Manageress returns.

We have been going regularly on a Thursday 2 for 1 menu, small selection of homemade pub food, quality has always been good & plentiful. Beware of the chilli burgers, too hot for my palate, but if you like it hot, give it a try. Good selection of local beers, Doom Bar hubby favourite. Husband 7 wife team, plus serving staff, all very friend Flu & happy to chat. Made to feel very we,com, probably make this our local, as it has a good pub atmosphere, would like to see them do well, as we need more local pubs like this, sadly lacking in Whaplode Drove. Every meal we have had has been excellent & plentiful, often too much for me, as stifle to eat large portions. Great to have this lovely friendly place just up the road.

Having been here twice before for Sunday lunch, and previously impressed, we decided to bring my brother this time. I am really cross with myself, that I accepted the incredibly overdone roast potatoes, and charred Yorkshire puddings, which totally ruined an otherwise reasonably acceptable meal. The two other times we have been, we had gorgeous cauliflower cheese, as well as generous quantities of fresh vegetables. This time there was no cauliflower cheese, and a very small dish of vegetables shared between three. This was extremely disappointing, as we had been singing the praises of this place for the past 9 months. We won't be returning.

The landlord Ian Irvine persuaded the South Linc`s Triumph Owners Club to have it`s Christmas Dinner at his pub. Well it`s 4 miles off the A17 from Holbeach, but worth every click on the Taxi meter. Fully decked out with light and decoration, warm and inviting. Good humour - great staff and the service with a smile was in abundance. The dinner was simply fantastic in taste and presentation, the party of 20 all had their choice served hot with extras being served while we ate. Tabitha is an excellent chef, timing was spot on. All enjoyed the full evening immensely. We will book again

We have been visiting The Ship at Long Sutton in South Holland for a number of years but I am compelled to put pen to paper to highlight this pub as a place to go. I would say that recently a new breath is sweeping through this establishment and with a very willing staff, super home cooking and a lovely menu. This week The Ship became the venue for a luncheon club my wife and I belong to. On a recommendation from us a group of 17 members of our club descended on the pub and we were met by Charlie who was directing operations along with her family, Great food, good prices, excellent service and approbation all round from our members. Well done to everyone at The Ship, you are definitely in our sights as the place to go to.
