The Pirate Inn is a historic building built in 1674 but only used as a pub since the early 1950s and also offers guest rooms. We were very late arriving to check in, and we were starving. Thankfully, the kitchen did let us order hot food despite this. The meals were ok to good; I had the homemade lasagne and hubby had gammon and eggs, which were both hot and tasty, although the garlic bread accompaniment to the lasagne was rock hard - I only managed to chew through one piece and the top of the lasagne under the cheese layer was overcooked and hard. The desserts were delicious with no problems. For the price, including drinks, it was very good value. The room we stayed in was comfortable, with everything we'd need; large towels, good sized mugs for making tea or coffee. Having lived in a 300+ years old cottage, we were expecting some draughts, and the ancient roof light in the bathroom was exactly as we'd expected. All in all, the Pirate Inn is a comfortable place, and we consider our stay to have been satisfactory. We were disappointed that no breakfast was provided, so we had a cuppa in the room and had to drive a few miles after check-out to a supermarket to get pastries. A small continental (bread and a toaster, perhaps, or pastries and fruit) added to the room offering would have made this a better experience. We would stay here again.

Great family & pet classic pub! After a day in St Ives and an afternoon at Lands End we needed a hearty dinner for 2 adults and 4 healthy appetite teens. The pub had a few regulars in, and easily accommodated us and our Border Collie. Within 5 minutes of being seated, a drinks order was taken, and upon quick receipt of our drinks our food order was taken. 1 beef lasagna, 1 Scampi, 1 Curry of the day, 1 children’s fish & chips, 2 8oz burgers and side orders of onion rings and sweet potato fries. The food was cooked fresh, served within good time and hot! The Burgers, fish, scampi and sides were very much enjoyed. The curry was mostly eaten, just a little bit spicier than expected and the lasagna was a bit too dry for our youngest palate. The bar staff and waiting staff were really friendly, and checked on us enough to show care and not impose.

Stopped here for lunch while staying in cornwall. Both had the Lasagne. Unfortunately the food was tasteless and seemed to try to fix this by smothering in cheese. I couldn't even find any pasta! The garlic bread was so hard I couldn't bite into it. Really disappointing.

We came for a Sunday roast. When I booked over the phone, the lady was very personable . I told her it was going to be a big number of people to which she said was fine. However when the food arrived it was barely warm with under cooked vegetables. Everything was drenched in insipid gravy and the chicken was cheap and had a spongy texture. Nobody enjoyed their meal and couldn't finish it. We mentioned the disappointment to the girl behind the bar she didn't give much of an apology as she was young and maybe didn't know how to rectify this. Overall it wasn't a good meal which was disappointing as it should have been a lovely family meal out

First off all, I would like to say that we were disgusted by the way we were treated by the old woman who worked at the pub. We booked a table three weeks in advance for the four of us and then were told that we were not allowed in because it was illegal and against their license to serve us (bare in mind this was at 6oclock, which is before the 9pm lockout time for minors, and we were only after food). After explaining to the lady that I booked it and the staff who kindly accommodated us said that we could, she then turned around and said that she guessed we could stay but as soon as we finish our food we needed to leave as soon as possible. In addition to this, everything about this pub was disappointing. Apon walking in, the decor was cheesy, the tables were old and dirty, the barmen were unprofessional and dismissive and there was obvious bias to regulars. Once told to go outside I was flabbergasted to see how disorganised the tables and how old and decrepit the furniture was. Also, the website gave completely wrong prices and even wrong dishes. We had to go the counter to order (having to deal with the grumpy and dismissive staff). The food itself was completely mid. The gammon was fatty and thin. The fish was tiny and I could have made the burger at home for £1. We couldn’t order drinks and so was given cheap tap water with thin plastic cups. On top of all this, we were never given apologies for our mistreatment and the bill was MASSIVE. However, our waitress was very nice. DID NOT TIP! (Sorry queen)

I would not advise anyone to stay at the Pirate Inn. It smelt of dog and there was dog hair all over the carpet. We were supposed to get breakfast but were told they didn’t do breakfast, when we queried this we received a tray with a few pieces of cheese, croissants some crackers and make yourself instant porridge. Not what we were expecting at all. On Saturday afternoon a band started playing the most terrible head banging music so loudly we could still hear it when we walked to the promenade. Mercifully they stopped playing at 9 pm. One meal in the pub was ok but the fish was dried up and more batter than fish.

Old Inn/Pub with many locals as customers. The Inn has 3 rooms. Our room was a bit on the small side and cleaning could have received a little more attention. More than enough free parking spaces and a large beer garden. Tasty beers and the food was also excellent with friendly service from two ladies. The Inn is about a 10 minute walk from the sea and the centre. We had booked and paid for a room with breakfast but breakfast was (no longer) served. The somewhat grumpy owner tried to wave this away and that didn't give us a good feeling. In the end it was resolved well, but it could have been a bit friendlier.

You can’t reply to previous reviews so I thought I’d write my own. Firstly I’d like to say, Elliot, your response to a family member is disgusting. You may need to take a course in customer service! Pre order or not surely you can cater for 20 people? How many people do you cater for in peak seasons? If not, perhaps you should have said no to our booking. Yes, apparently we were asked to pre order our meal blah blah blah. Our table order was the first to be taken, yet we were the last to have our food, and one persons food arrived….he had finished and then the other 3 people’s food arrived. Having not pre ordered should not mean food having to be sent back cos it was cold in the middle. Should not mean starters are brought out after mains? Clue is in the title. STARTER. Another order was sent back because it was inedible. The comment to staff was praising the ones who were there, not to bash. My family member was asking where management was. I am not one to bash a business as I understand how detrimental it is. However I am appalled at your response, lack of compassion and understanding, prompting my review. I am hoping you take the feedback as constructive. Take a course in customer service Force people to pre order if a large group you can not handle Or don’t take a large group if you have a “tiny kitchen”

She came back and gave me the food in the box and when opened it ITS THESAME OLD HAIRY FOOD I HAD the chef just add on 2 new tenderstem broccoli and mash potato. If i only knew they would just retuned the food that i had. I would rather had a refund instead. This is without doubt the smallest room that we have ever stayed in anywhere in the world! Barely enough room to walk around the bed - had to put our case in the bathroom as there is just no other space for it. The bathroom is very worn and quite grungy and the heating is connected to the pubs system so you are unable to set it to your own needs. The breakfast was a sad revelation - should not be listed as a B&B - tray with instant porridge, yoghurt cup and mandarin left next to the bed The food in the pub was OK - they had a world cup burger offer on with a drink included and it was not bad. A concerning point was that none of the staff seem to know much about what is going on - or maybe just don't care - seemed to be more interested in what was happening around the snooker table that about addressing our enquiries Would advise looking elsewhere when in Penzance

Atrocious food & appalling accommodations. Room was tiny, could barely walk around the bed. Towels need replacing, a dirty pinky/brown. Clearly not the original colour and just look dirty. My husband actually went down to the car and brought his own towel to have a shower. Shower does not work ran no 4 blue/cool but it was burning hot! so hot I scalded my hand putting it under to check the temperature! Shower screen mould horrific and clearly not been properly cleaned the shower was either scalding hot or cold. Bedroom carpet needs washing or replacing- a grey carpet so filthy it was brown. ironic a carpet cleaner was on the landing!! Pub with rooms advertising as a B&B , but no cooked breakfast?? should not advertise as a B&B if a cooked breakfast is not provided. Yoghurt, a ready pot of porridge and a 200ml carton of juice plus a wrinkly old apple. Longlife croissant 🥐 in cellophane plus 1 jam 1 honey 2 butter and a marmite. We had 1 teaspoon to make drinks eat yoghurts/porridge. The mind boggles!!! A rubbish bin right next to one’s head is totally unacceptable. The only saving grace a great selection of hot beverages. If we had not if travelled 9 hrs had to awake very early in the morning we would have declined the room and left. To be honest sleeping in the back of a car would have been preferable. Dog hair on the bed linen! Bathroom filled with mould due to zero ventilation-Grimy tiles/shower screen and mildew all over the ceiling as no window to open and no air-vent. We only booked as it was walkable to Scilly Isles Park n ride- What a mistake! we read reviews that stated it was exceptional/amazing great staff. We did not have the same experience. We ordered dinner after a 9hr drive exhausted. When a dish states served on a bed of lettuce one expects lettuce and maybe a bit of dressing- Oh no peppers and onions! I’m allergic to onions. So i picked items with zero onions. But each dish had onions with it! flatbread came with side salad full of onions, chicken tenders on bed of lettuce came with finely chopped onions and peppers, baked mushrooms topped with summer vegetables came with peppers and onions!! i picked onions out of the lettuce but could not remove them from the baked cheese on top of the field mushrooms. No staff came to enquire about our meal except to clear plates I explained I had clearly picked items without onions on the menu. Staff did not ask about allergies and as no one came to check our food was ok and no staff around the dining area (they were behind the bar or washing up) so i was unable to eat the mushrooms. Wait staff just threw them in the bin. Did not inform bar staff who created the bill so we had to explain once again the issues. Staff need better/more rigorous training! 1) Always ask re:allergies 2) always check back with customers once food is served 3) pass on any issues with food. we sat down at 7:30pm and heard wait staff share the kitchen had run out of x,y z do no dessert for us. The only saving grace was the steak & ale pie. Flatbread - was a cheap pizza not a flatbread at all! chicken tenders verging on burnt (a lot of burnt edges) measly portion of 3 too! Menu description does not reflect the food brought to the table. The menu needs updating to reflect the actual ingredients. Chef clearly obsessed with peppers and onions! . A very poor do! and not cheap either! £12 for pie and chips.

Went to see a live band and to eat over the coronation weekend. I rang and booked in advance as my partner has mobility problems. Lovely seat by window, food was beautiful and staff bent over backwards to help us. They booked a live band and bouncy castle too. Lovely welcoming atmosphere.

What a great little find. We initially drove past this place in search for a meal out, went into the town, didn't find anything we fancied so came back. This pub has a great atmosphere, the staff are great and food was absolutely amazing! It was by far the best meal out we've had in ages. 5 main meals, 2 sides and 4 alcoholic drinks, all served to our table with expected waiting times for freshly cooked meals for under £70. The quality of the food was amazing and the portions were decent sizes too. There was a bouncy castle and adventure play ground to keep the kids entertained whilst we waited for our food too 👌 We were in Cornwall for a little holiday but we'll definitely be back if we're ever near again, well done to all the staff!

Well. What can I say, bar staff unpleasant and now the we go on to the food!!! That was appalling, uncooked meat that came from a microwave meat and potatoes was only thing that was cooked, veg was really hard not boiled at all, parsnips wasn’t roasted they was rawish, yorkie pudding was black burnt and so was aunt bessys stuffing balls to, and no offer of Apple sauce or Horseradish sauce or mint sauce either and we paid £60 something pounds, what a total Rip off. Won’t be coming back again!!!. And for your information I’m an Undercover food critic and I will be contacting the food hygiene colleges tomorrow.!!!!

Very disappointing. We are a family of six, having placed our orders, two of us choosing fish & chips, approximately 10 minutes later were told there was no fish. We quickly chose alternatives. When our meals arrived, all looked well but when we actually began...

We had a lovely stay here. Great bed, best night’s sleep in a long time. It’s a pub so you’d think it would be noisy, but they close around 10pm so it nice and quiet around bed time. The staff and locals are really friendly and welcoming. Good shower too with decent shampoo and conditioner that made my hairy very shiny. Will definitely stay again. Thank you to all at the Pirates Inn. See you soon, Rita and James.

We arrived on a very wet day to a lovely warm cosy room, although small there was enough room for the two of us, with storage and hanging space for our clothes. The bathroom was large and again had enough storage for wash bags. There were various teas and coffees provided with hot chocolate and biscuits, something you don't see much these days but really appreciated. The breakfast provided was a porridge pot, croissant ( on day three, pain au chocolate), apple, yoghurt, savoury crackers and cheese. There is a mini fridge in the room which was handy and kept the cheese and yoghurts fresh. The location was good for a walk into Penzance and although the road outside was busy at times we really didn't notice the noise. Hopefully we will return.

We stayed at this hotel as well as had lunch and drinks. We loved it! The room was small but had all you needed. It included a great breakfast in the room - fruit, yoghurt croissant, coffee, juice etc. - loved it! The pub was also great - good choice of food, really nice outdoor space, great service, very pleasant experience- would recommend.
