Although a smallish pub not many staff te food and service were very good and prices even better

Popped in for a quick bite with my wife whilst on holiday, the food was really well cooked and the chap behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. Thank you! 👏

Called in for lunch after a walk nearby and will definitely visit again. The beer was kept well and although only one of the three was on it tasted perfect, as it should. Wide selection on the menu and several tempting offers, we chose to build our own burger and were very pleased with our choice which was tasty and so filling we had no room for dessert. Thank you Trevor for the welcome, and although you were obviously run off your feet we were so delighted to see the care you showed to a customer with disabilities who arrived after us. We shall certainly return soon.

Not a bad little place to go. I have always walked straight past this place as it's never appealed to me but visiting Spalding with 2 starving children we decided to give it a go and we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered 2 all day brunches for £11.99 and 2 kids meals for £3.49 each which was a bargain. Food was good and no complaints all round. Definitely recommend!

The food was absolutely cooked to perfection, with the size of the meal also to specification. We are regulars to the pub and would not go anywhere else. Trevor and Ben are exceptional members of staff. Can’t ask for a better local pub.

I recently visited with friends thought we would try out again.its always been great food and pleasant staff.we wasn't dissapointed had selection of meals pies .gammon.fish etc plates well presented and tottaly delicious.staff very polite also.found the manager very bubbly and enjoys a laugh.made our day.highly recommended place.Also we noticed new tvs installed so when premier league back would be popular im sure.keep up good work we will return ..

What a real disappointment this was when we dropped in for something to eat at lunchtime on a Sunday recently. There was a really long wait for food, which is not a problem, but what arrived did not match the photos or descriptions on the menu. The portions were embarrassingly small and the food was poorly cooked and presented. I asked the manager politely and he said that everything was done according to strict portion controls and there was nothing he could do. Finding a few extra potatoes and peas was apparently impossible given the restrictions. This was such a disappointment; we paid nearly £30 for two meals for what turned out to be a very typical, inadequate British pub experience. Would really appreciate a reply from the brewery or the owners. Do you think it is OK to operate in this way? No plans to return any time soon.

If you spot the large menus on the tables you might think that the Pied Calf is some sort of pseudo Wetherspoons, but it is decidedly different. The decor and style of this Greene King establishment is that of a local pub, as is the ambience. Another huge difference is that the bar staff know how to welcome customers and pour beer properly (what chance that in a Wetherspoons?). Arguably the menu is similar to the Wetherspoons style, but I reckon that Greene King give more choice and I particularly like the Bar Bites section that caters perfectly for people who just want snacks. We chose loaded fries with bacon, cheese etc on top and a bucket of chicken wings and they went down a treat. This is a very good all round pub.

Food took 45 minutes and was not as advertised. The portions are tiny. This was a classic British public experience. The member of staff told us that the photographs don’t match what you are getting, there’s nothing they can do about it. Avoid, do not eat here.

Always a friendly greeting from the team, service always good, and not a long wait for food, and the food is always hot when you get it. We're regulars, it's a sky sports venue so if you want a quiet meal go after the game as the pub does empty quickly after a game has ended. On a quiet night you can chat with the team and on a match night the locals will involve anyone who wants to join in. The beer on pump is dearer than spoons but is a far superior pint. Food is good value, we had mains and desert and soft drink under £20 per head, do daytime deals for OAPs and the pub classics are cheaper if you buy 2 all day, every day. The cheese potato and onion pie, and the steak pie slices are great flavours, gravy is lovely.

Not going to lie. Had no idea what to expect popped in when I noticed the 2 for £11.99 on pub classics with the wife. Wasn't really expecting much for fish and chips for 6 quid but was really amazed for the price the fish was massive and lovely crispy batter. Chips cooked well and good portions. Have zero complaints. We were in Bournemouth the day before and paid over 30 quid for much much worse fish and chips. Everyone was really polite as well. Puts Weather spoons to shame. 100 percent popping in again next time in town. Good stuff.

Claimed to have disabled toilets via Google. Came and realised they didnt. I have an assistance dog and had to leave him with my parents - he could not fit in the toilets either. I'm autistic and hate using normal toilets but had too. Very distressing. Not very disabled friendly. Nice lady at the bar though, and the food was great. But unfortunately wouldnt come back. If your arent disabled this place would be great!

We discovered the food in here after Wetherspoons wasn't serving food this afternoon. I've got to say the value was great. We had 2 fish and chips meals for £11.99. If you included the drinks in the price for a little bit more, I would say you were on to a winner. Thanks very much and extremely friendly staff, Wetherspoons loss, ha ha.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I have lived here for years and only just discovered this place has magnificent food! The quality is outstanding, and the value for money is second to none! We used to eat at the local Wetherspoons, but no more! The Pied Calf knocks the socks off Spoons when it comes to quality, choice, and price, and the staff are wonderful! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 P.S. I ate my food without taking a picture, but the picture of the double burger on the menu is exactly what I got!

Visited recently with friends,great food Burgers especially great offer for £5 on a Wednesday ideal for groups.we ordered Burger,lasagne and fish and chips. We ordered and food came out very quick despite being busy.all food was hot and plenty of it.Service was polite and friendly great atmosphere and so much sports available.highly recommended.great value.Must have new Head chef as food tasted so much better recently and the burgers wow.keep up good work.

We were a party of 6 with a child. We ordered our food in couples except for with child. The table had been booked previously therefore when we ordered we assumed it would be obvious we were a group. Our food was served as couples the first couple had finished their food before the couple with a child were served. The staff then proceeded to clear the table before everyone had finished eating this I find really rude!! In answer to your reply we did book the table for 6 adults and 1 child with a high chair. We didn't just walk in.

We are regular eaters in this pub and James is an amazing cook. This time it wasn’t James and sadly it was shocking. The good was overcooked. The bacon in the burger was the size of a postage stamp. The place needs refurbishing and it’s sad Greene King won’t invest in this popular pub. If it stays like this it’ll lose custom.

I had hunters chicken it was bang on, tried my partners fish and chips and that was really good as well, nicely cooking and very tasty

We don’t live locally but we booked here for a family meal. There is an extensive menu which was very good value for money. We didn’t realise it was a sports bar, and may not have booked if we had. However, the staff were amazing, extremely attentive including bar staff and kitchen staff. We had a lovely meal and would go again.

Great, friendly staff on two occasions I visited. I also took a friend I met in Spalding there, he did not know the cafe existed (he rarely gets out btw). He also had a great time watching a live football match between Newcastle United and Sunderland FC I think...

Absolutely great night called in on short notice met with friendly staff who gave a great service. Food was delicious and plenty full. Staff happy to accommodate the group having a birthday cake. Wanted somewhere for lunch that was dog friendly, they definitely were. Good varied menu choice, excellent service, very friendly. Food was hot and great portions, excellent value for money. Staff great, very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us.

Please don’t get me wrong here. We were looking for a pub lunch with my mother for her birthday and one of her usual haunts would be weatherspoons so that was our benchmark We had a lovely lunch, the menu was varied and every meal was lovely The pub is a proper local pub and got quite busy as time went by Service was excellent and the staff could not do enough to ensure we had a good lunch We all found something different on the menu and nobody had a single problem My wife had fish and chips which were lovely My mother had such a large meal she took half home for her supper Really nice place for a pint and a bite to eat

The chef kindly did us two chocolate fudge cakes even though the kitchen was closed , he sat and chatted with us as-well and really created the atmosphere and was a pleasure to be served by , i will definitely be returning as the Guinness was also beautiful. The pub was also incredibly clean and tidy and the tv quality for the sport was the best in spalding by a mile. Id give it 6 stars if i could

Was served by a lovely staff member who was very helpful to all my needs. Once I was seated with my wonderfully poured pint I was overjoyed by the feel the pub gave me. The interior was clean and everyone one there was happy. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will definitely be coming back!

Been here before with my family, unfortunately went to go for a family meal, and my father is in a electric wheelchair due to MS, they were completely unable to accommodate him, as he was unable to get in through the door as there was a step and no ramp. And the back entrance was locked with no key!! Completely unacceptable and discriminating against him. Not only this. It was entirely embarrassing,

It was very quiet but I do like the atmosphere as I have been before. Very nice place and very nice staff and fellow customers. Do definitely recommend a visit if you have not been.

I have been going to the pied calf for years and it is a lovely little pub. But recently, unfortunately the food quality and portion size has gone really down hill. It used be really nice food but now the portion size is what you expect for a kids meal and the freshness and quality of the food is not what it was... hope you sort the food out.

I've visited a number of Green King pubs over the years but this little bar in the town centre stands out from the crowd. Maybe that's because it appears to be an efficiently managed husband & wife concern. There's an L shaped bar to the front with a neat little beer garden at the rear. The beers are varied & averagely priced however it is the food that ranks this place. The chef (husband) is a really affordable guy (as is his lady wife at the bar) & seems to go out of his way to present your food in a thoughtful & appetising manner. That's half the job for me, an overloaded plate with food stacked up on it is an instant put off. I like to be able to see & access ALL of my food without having to move stuff around my plate & avoid having it fall off in the process. I ought to say that I visited the Pied Calf on a weekday in the early evening &. therefore can't comment on what it might be like at the weekends. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit.

Manager and bar staff were very friendly and helpful towards food customisations, made sure we were satisfied with the food, very reasonable price and the food arrived at a quick place.

Good food, good pleasant service but a little loud on the music side which is just preference, hence only 4 xs on atmosphere. Worth a visit at lunchtimes.

First time visit and will definitely return. Food was fantastic, cooked well and arrived quickly and a very friendly place.

When we arrived the pub was busy as the football was on TV. We found a table and ordered our food from the bar as we had a voucher. We waited 30 mins for our food to arrive but whilst waiting a young man next to our table was vaping which I didn’t like at all. When our food arrived it was nice and hot . We ordered a drink via the app but it never arrived so had to go to the bar for it.

I recently visited some friends for some food and drinks,catch up on gossip aswell.We found the venue very popular with sports Fans watching The live sport that was being shown.we ordered some sharers and had few rounds off drinks.the atmosphere was fantastic, friendly and polite.everyone seemed to be enjoying the sports.food was very night great choice and friendly staff also.The Landlord seem to be very bubbly and joking with the guests also.overall highly recommended for sports.drinks and great value food we will return.keep up the good work.

Great pub. Excellent pub with a great menu and amazing staff. Had a fantastic meal here and the banter from the landlord(?) was priceless (ordering in the app and the presentation of smaller cutlery). Had the pie and the burger, both were cooked to perfection. Waited 45 minutes for our roast beef dinner and was very disappointed. Gravey was so thick it wouldn't pour, two slices of beef one of which was just fat. Very poor quality would not recommend or go again.

Met up with friends for a catch up and some lunch last week, the service was lovely from the bar staff and the food was amazing! I’ve ate here before and I have to say the food was a lot better this time! Can’t wait to come for another visit

Visited venue this week with friends for Christmas drink and food.food was delicious great value highly recommend chip shop platter. Found friendly staff many customers having a laugh with manager too.makes whole place very warming and enjoyable.will return with more people for the Karaoke advertising Xmas eve.keep up the good work ....

Went to the Pied Calf for a family meal today and the meal was excellent. We had scampi, gammon, chicken tikka, fish and chips and a couple of sides. Will be visiting again with family. Compliments to Darren/shelia/Trevor for excellent food and service.

We had stopped for a bite to eat halfway home, there were 12 of us. We felt welcomed and were looked after. (We hadn't been able to book as the phone lines were down)James, the chef did an amazing job of feeding us all, mains and desserts and the 2 ladies that served us were lovely, polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.
