The Percy Shaw in Calderdale

Ordered sunday chicken dinner. Arrived within 15minutes. 3 roast potatoes burnt to a crisp, broccoli was under cooked and still hard, chicken was dry, mash and 1 yorkshire pudding were all cold. Didnt serve with gravy. Sent it back (was given no apology or asked if I wanted something else) 10 minutes passed and a waitress offered me a free dessert courtesy of the manager which i declined because i had to leave for work. Wont be eating there again

The pizza wouldn’t fill a child and it came under cooked even after waiting 30 mins for our order

Had a Sunday roast yesterday from the Sunday Special menu, it was lovely, there was a problem with the pork so they withdrew that and I had gammon, it was cooked, the carrots and parsnips could have done with another few minutes, and they haven’t smashed the roasties yet, need to get brown and crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. There was a wide selection on the menu, my son had toad in the hole as a starter and then fish and chips, his partner had a huge sandwich, cheese and chutney, and all the trimmings, what a doorstep it was, she could only manage half so got a doggy bag to rake home. Will certainly eat there again 👍👍👍👍

Managed to reserve a table for 9 at short notice. Everyone really enjoyed their meals which all came out at the same time. All staff were friendly and happy. It was really busy so hats off to you all and merry Christmas 🎄🎁

This is my 1st time I've been to Percy Shaw since it has been taken over and unfortunately it has massively gone down hill. It took an hour to bring our food out even though the place wasn't busy. My steak was well done but I asked for medium, my chips were raw in the middle, I paid extra for 3 onion rings, tomato and a large mushroom but only received 2 onion rings and the tiniest burnt mushroom. The only resolution they offered me was if I return in the future they will knock 20% off my bill (food only). It's safe to say that I will not be returning. I think I wasted enough money! Very disappointed!

Met in here for ore drinks before my works Xmas party was really good atmosphere and busy but still quick service. Great place to be and nice inside also

Shocking breakfast had to send it back . Burnt bacon slimy egg and ashbrowns were cooked hours before I think . Will not be putting myself through that again

Unfortunately over an hour's wait for food totally unacceptable... otherwise a lovely place to sit and chill out and nice view if you can get near the window.

When my husband got to the front of the queue he was told that they were so busy that they weren’t taking any food orders. While we were sat looking at the menu, several members of staff walked past us, and not one of them bothered to tell us before we wasted our time, that they weren’t taking orders. And It wasn’t even busy, we got a table no problem and passed several empty tables as we walked in. Load of rubbish

absolutely terrible, waited an hour 20mins (was told 30mins) for 2 light snacks/meals, when the food finally arrived it was just luke warm and nothing special! Numerous other customers had walked out and got a refund, it wasn't overally busy so dread to think how long the wait would have been if it was! the waiters/bar staff were lovely and very apologetic so can only think the issue was with the kitchen staff!

One of the cleanest looking Wetherspoons I've been in! Bar mam who served us was really friendly and quick. Didn't have food so can't comment but what we saw being bought out looked good. Just a nice, bright and clean looking bar. 👏

Great pub was weatherspoons but has been bought out simular prices and decent pub food.

Has a feel good factor to it. Called in for breakfast after nhs appointment. Table was dirty. Had that cleaned. Ordering from the menu was easy but the breakfast, Oh dear. Toast was warm bread. Eggs and sausage were nowhere near cooked. Could probably have made one decent slice of bacon out of the four. On the up side, the choice of flavoured lattès was a bonus. Got a refund and left.

Don't normally like precinct pubs but good views and service

Lovely place and atmosphere. Decoration is lovely. However the food was a big let down. Really greasy onion rings and fish battered chicken in the burger. Chips were okay but overall the food was a bit bland. Would not get food again however drinks possibly.

We headed for breakfast to what we believed to be a Wetherspoons. However, this place is no longer a spoons. We ordered breakfast which in fairness was tasty. Unfortunately, the big let down for us was the time it took to serve it, about an hour went by which to us was far too long a wait, had we have known the wait time we would’ve gone elsewhere. Also, one of the breakfasts came minus the mushrooms, beans, and an egg, so this took still longer to sort. We weren’t impressed, and therefore we won’t return.

Haven't been since new owners, went for breakfast and it was lovely, food was fresh and tasty, it was very clean and hospitality was spot on .

Called in for a few drinks and some dinner with family members. Oh wow. We had the chicken pizza and it was better than pizza hut by far.. the pies are to die for and the drinks are very reasonably priced. They also do a quiz every other Monday too. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Halifaxs place to be!

Once a Wetherspoon's, this pub has reopened and has kept the interior the same and offers a similar menu. It's an unusual shape, but very light inside and has a 60 foot long window which offers marvellous views of one end of the town and some of the local countryside. I ordered a cheese jacket potato with salad, plus a mug of unlimited coffee. The meal was on my table in ten minutes and was well cooked, nicely laid out and tasted fine. A decent pub. Thank-you.

The best wetherspoons I've been in yet and I've been in a few. Food was perfect and staff very friendly and helpful. The place was spotlessly clean.

Well, out of all the Spoons I've visited, this has to be the best. The food didn't even taste like a Spoon's breakfast. Everything was warm for a start! Tasty sausages, with actual flavour! Toast in a basket (posh!) Sauce in a bottle, not sachets. Free syrup for coffee. Lovely view. Great service. And clean! Spot on.

Very similar to witherspoon around the same price also

First time we've been here and we were quite impressed. We had fish and chips and a Steak pie and chips and both were much better quality and presentation than Spoons food but at similar prices.The drinks were good and the bar service friendly and the only drawback was the long wait for the meals (55 mins), not sure if this is normal or whether the kitchen was short staffed but it did seem a bit excessive.

I haven't been to The Percy Shaw for over 12 months but has been told its still good. So I can't make a comment about it

Good place to start a night out. Sensibly priced beers in a relaxed atmosphere.

What a lovely pub. The outside seating area is quite small which was a shame because the evening of our visit was a rare sunny treat and it would have been lovely to sit out. Service was prompt, despite the pub being busy. And I have to say that I LOVED their Purple Rain cocktail. We called in to the pub both nights of our stay and I had it both nights because it was lovely.

The place has really gone downhill since it was sold. The menu is tiny and has very limited options for someone who doesn't want a very meaty lunch. Although the building was quite nice inside and has been renovated, it is just a cover up for what is a very mediocre pub.

Regular Wetherspoons experience. Clean, tidy, cheap. Nice views. Big glass frontage so plenty of sunlight can get in. Great! 👍👍

Thought we’d visit a local well know cafe but it was full so we opted for Percy’s. It was pretty dead which I was surprised at but haven’t been in since it’s been under new ownership. We got drinks served by a nice lad at the bar and ordered 2 large breakfasts. When the food arrived at our tables we were surprised to see the beans, or should I say lack of beans, they had been put in the smallest pot I’ve ever seen beans served in, it was one of those little pots I’d expect tomato sauce etc to be served in, both plates had the same pot of beans so it wasn’t an error, they’re just blumin tight when it comes to the cheapest thing on the plate, totally don’t understand their logic with this as they could fill a decent size pot and it would still cost next to nothing, the other thing was lack of tomatoes, since when does a full breakfast exclude tomatoes, not one tomato, again something cheap that could make a plate look a lot fuller. The sausages & hash browns were really nice, the bacon was tasty but absolutely full of fat and sat in a massive puddle of grease, just give it a dab with kitchen roll or something instead of plonking it straight on the plate dripping in grease, then 2 nicely cooked eggs which were the best thing on the plate. It was an ok breakfast that could be massively improved with minor tweaks.

If you are pushed for time, don't come here, service at the bar was excellent, unfortunately I ordered our food and almost an hour later we received it, I had asked one of the staff twice if he would check how long it would be, but he never got back to me. When the food came, again, I was disappointed, the steak was excellent however the fries were luke warm at best and the peas hadn't been anywhere near any heat, also it was served on a board, how do you get peas to stop on a flat board? They were in a very small ramakin so couldn't eat them from there, even if they had been edible. My husband's pie chips peas and gravy came in a small bowl minus the peas, and smothered in gravy, (this should have been in a jug like the other sauces do) if we had been told when we ordered that there was a wait then you can decide if you want to stop or not, and when the food eventually came there wasn't an apology. My other observation, whilst I was waiting was that the only people clearing the tables were the customers that wanted to sit down.even the staff taking out the food didn't bring any glasses etc back with them. I have been here several times since it changed hands and have always been perfectly satisfied, unfortunately this last experience means I won't be back again unless it improves.

After waiting 50 min for pie chips and peas, and asking twice when it was coming, it turned up with lukewarm chips and no peas, and with no appolalgis, and a waiter unable to clear glasses on his way back to the counter, won't be going back soon

All the staff are lovely and welcoming. Food is on point and comes out quick. Bottles are cheap. I drink fire ball shots. Like loads 🫶🤦‍♂️ they run out.. so 1 of staff went to reload me some. U can beat service like it. 👍

This is our first visit since new ownership. Staff friendly and helpfull. Looks a lot lighter and nice music playing. Food was lovely. We both had loaded mixed grill and it was lovely, cooked just how we asked really tasty and all meats were wonderfull. This was a late lunch as we had been to The Vue will definitely be back. Prices were good as well

The manager is very rude the service was very bad food was very average will not visit again

Went to The Percy Shaw on the strength of a Wetherspoons meal being safe and value for money. The news that the pub is no longer in the hands of 'Spoons had passed us by and so we were left to sample the goods in an ex-Spoons. We weren't overly impressed to be honest. The pub was right on the mark of average and had nothing to add that made us want to return. Our meals were deeply unimpressive and we were far from impressed. It was all a bit bland and dull.

Five of us came for a meal n Sunday teatime….we were all impressed with the food,also it was hot and served on warm plates (hate it when food is served on cold plates) 👍

Nice place, menu okay, some decent offers on.

Gone downhill since being taken over, service wasn't great, appearance of servers was not good, white trainers caked in mud, touching food on plates, as we sat across from serving window we saw a lot of not nice habits, so much so I didn't have a big meal, just had chips. Won't be going again now.

This meal was really nice steak and ale pie with mash, veg and gravy if u go on a Tuesday. This 1 is on offer they also have other items on offer too, friendly staff quick service

Wasn't so quick on clearing table between meals. Sent adult meals first before childrens. Also same with puddings adults came first before kids

They were very short staffed but the ones that were working were ok. The food was not good cold thrown on the plate it was nearly inedible

Percys is no longer a wetherspoons, however the prices are still very reasonable and the food is to a good standard. The menu is alot smaller than wetherspoons and drinks are not included however it's still reasonably priced and well worth a visit. PLUS at the moment kids Menu is £1 on a Monday !!

Nice social space,staff pleasant and welcoming.Atmosphere in day time is relaxed and friendly.Value very good.Didnt eat here, just met for drinks but plenty of popular choices for breakfast, lunch etc.

Unfortunately not the place it used to be . Real ale choices not as good . Prices have gone up . Last pint had to take back as cloudy and tasted funny . Such a shame . As enjoyed a pint and views .

Absolutely disgusted, my wife came in and ordered the VEGAN BLT and was given the non vegan one! Shes not eaten meat product in 15 years this would be considered a hate crime if she was vegan for religious reasons!

Like the place. Cheap drinks. Not changed much since it was a wetherspoons.

Only had coffee but it wasn't the best. Very weak, couldn't taste coffee. Just like drinking hot water & milk. That said, the place is lovely, just need to sort out the coffee.

Quick service and friendly staff

Great food great atmosphere and welcoming even though I was dressed common and sound it too ha haa 😂 I felt comfortable and I don't visit pub's at all. Thanks for having us also it cost 52 quid and fed 5 plus a 4year old bargain okay okay someone else paid for dessert and another for drinks so still less than 100 easy.

Great start for new ownership definitely out shone the former spoons owner's. Food was good and the service was great It was definitely worth a visit.

Waiting 45 minutes from a breakfast. Never had this before it was sold. I'll be going to Wetherspoons in the town centre from now on. Looks like theu can't keep the standard of witherspoon. Shame

Great pub lovely and clean, food was good, better than the previous Percy shaws, mom rates the coffee so hard she's been telling everyone about it. Good prices too. Lady who served us was very friendly and polite and had a chat which was a nice touch. Good luck for the future.

The food service was terrible with 3 aspects of the mixed grill missing. Our food sat on the pass for 10 minutes and us all getting parts of our meal at different times.

Some dirty tables, no cask ales at the time. Quite busy, not very warm.

Much the same as Wetherspoons was. Out of our party of three adults all commented the food wasn't quite as good and wouldn't be coming again in a hurry.

Food absolutely horrible everything was deep fried waited extra 10 minutes for onion rings couldn't even cut my fish fingers won't be going back

The food was awful. The lasagne was swimming in oil.It was the worst lasagne I've ever had Would definitely not recommend.
