Called in for a few drinks and some dinner with family members. Oh wow. We had the chicken pizza and it was better than pizza hut by far.. the pies are to die for and the drinks are very reasonably priced. They also do a quiz every other Monday too. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Halifaxs place to be!

Once a Wetherspoon's, this pub has reopened and has kept the interior the same and offers a similar menu. It's an unusual shape, but very light inside and has a 60 foot long window which offers marvellous views of one end of the town and some of the local countryside. I ordered a cheese jacket potato with salad, plus a mug of unlimited coffee. The meal was on my table in ten minutes and was well cooked, nicely laid out and tasted fine. A decent pub. Thank-you.

Well, out of all the Spoons I've visited, this has to be the best. The food didn't even taste like a Spoon's breakfast. Everything was warm for a start! Tasty sausages, with actual flavour! Toast in a basket (posh!) Sauce in a bottle, not sachets. Free syrup for coffee. Lovely view. Great service. And clean! Spot on.

First time we've been here and we were quite impressed. We had fish and chips and a Steak pie and chips and both were much better quality and presentation than Spoons food but at similar prices. The drinks were good and the bar service friendly and the only drawback was the long wait for the meals (55 mins), not sure if this is normal or whether the kitchen was short staffed but it did seem a bit excessive.

bright clean and cheerful pub -good food and excellent beers something for everyone -i prefer the fizzy lagers and smooth beers but wetherspoons pubs have been supporting micro-breweries of real ale since they opened the doors of of their first pub in 1979, working with local brewers up and down the country to put local beers on the pumps.Wetherspoon’s pubs are synonymous with real ale – and the resulting awards and recognition received are testament to the company’s passion for serving a great pint.-and creating the perfect pub -this is as close as it gets--arise Sir Timothy- its only a matter of time before the queen invites you to the palace and taps that sword on you shoulders this pub should be renamed the Sir Percy Shaw -who never recieved a knighthood he deserved despite his invention saving many peoples lives -absolutely gutted that this pub is closing -the only memorial that i know of to the great Percy Shaw -or Sir Percy Shaw as i like to call him................has now been taken over by another pub chain and selling more variety of beers and the food is excellent

What a lovely pub. The outside seating area is quite small which was a shame because the evening of our visit was a rare sunny treat and it would have been lovely to sit out. Service was prompt, despite the pub being busy. And I have to say that I LOVED their Purple Rain cocktail. We called in to the pub both nights of our stay and I had it both nights because it was lovely.

The place has really gone downhill since it was sold. The menu is tiny and has very limited options for someone who doesn't want a very meaty lunch. Although the building was quite nice inside and has been renovated, it is just a cover up for what is a very mediocre pub.

Thought we’d visit a local well know cafe but it was full so we opted for Percy’s. It was pretty dead which I was surprised at but haven’t been in since it’s been under new ownership. We got drinks served by a nice lad at the bar and ordered 2 large breakfasts. When the food arrived at our tables we were surprised to see the beans, or should I say lack of beans, they had been put in the smallest pot I’ve ever seen beans served in, it was one of those little pots I’d expect tomato sauce etc to be served in, both plates had the same pot of beans so it wasn’t an error, they’re just blumin tight when it comes to the cheapest thing on the plate, totally don’t understand their logic with this as they could fill a decent size pot and it would still cost next to nothing, the other thing was lack of tomatoes, since when does a full breakfast exclude tomatoes, not one tomato, again something cheap that could make a plate look a lot fuller. The sausages & hash browns were really nice, the bacon was tasty but absolutely full of fat and sat in a massive puddle of grease, just give it a dab with kitchen roll or something instead of plonking it straight on the plate dripping in grease, then 2 nicely cooked eggs which were the best thing on the plate. It was an ok breakfast that could be massively improved with minor tweaks.

If you are pushed for time, don't come here, service at the bar was excellent, unfortunately I ordered our food and almost an hour later we received it, I had asked one of the staff twice if he would check how long it would be, but he never got back to me. When the food came, again, I was disappointed, the steak was excellent however the fries were luke warm at best and the peas hadn't been anywhere near any heat, also it was served on a board, how do you get peas to stop on a flat board? They were in a very small ramakin so couldn't eat them from there, even if they had been edible. My husband's pie chips peas and gravy came in a small bowl minus the peas, and smothered in gravy, (this should have been in a jug like the other sauces do) if we had been told when we ordered that there was a wait then you can decide if you want to stop or not, and when the food eventually came there wasn't an apology. My other observation, whilst I was waiting was that the only people clearing the tables were the customers that wanted to sit down.even the staff taking out the food didn't bring any glasses etc back with them. I have been here several times since it changed hands and have always been perfectly satisfied, unfortunately this last experience means I won't be back again unless it improves.

Went to The Percy Shaw on the strength of a Wetherspoons meal being safe and value for money. The news that the pub is no longer in the hands of 'Spoons had passed us by and so we were left to sample the goods in an ex-Spoons. We weren't overly impressed to be honest. The pub was right on the mark of average and had nothing to add that made us want to return. Our meals were deeply unimpressive and we were far from impressed. It was all a bit bland and dull.

The new owners Black Star Pubs have done a great job. The decor is fresh and inviting. The new menu is similar to Wetherspoons as are the prices, although you must buy drinks separate now. The food quality and presentation are far superior to anything Wetherspoons ever provided. The burger was moist and juicy, onion rings crisp, bacon was tasty, the chips were crisp yet fluffy. As for the gammon and eggs. It looked like 5* service. 2 thick slices of gammon, 3 fried eggs, plenty of crisp fluffy chips dressed with fresh herbs. The gammon was great, full of flavour, and so thick. The eggs were perfect. Definitely worth coming back for. My only issue is done tables are not wheelchair friendly. The door was hard to get through and the new seating area near the bar makes it hard to get to the bar. Especially in a wheelchair, my wife tried and ended up being skipped over by staff as they couldn’t see her over the high bar. But that doesn’t detract from the amazing food and great prices.

Used to visit the Percy Shaw regularly before a cinema outing when it was a Wetherspoons; no, it wasn't 5 star dining by any means, but you got a meal that was good value in a friendly atmosphere. I had misgivings when I heard the place had been sold to another pub chain, and waited several months to pay a visit for breakfast today. First of all, there is no app to order from your table; you have to queue at the bar and wait for a member of staff to acknowledge you, by which time (if you're by yourself and it's busy) someone else could be sitting at your table. No salt or pepper, so if you require these basic essentials I'd advise you to take your own; I saw someone else mention this lack of condiments in a review 5 weeks ago, so it's clearly not something the new owners are worried about fixing. What I really didn't appreciate was a member of staff trying to hustle me into eating up and leaving when I still had a fair amount of food left on my plate; I noticed that he wasn't trying to evict the tableful of men who were already half cut at quarter to eleven in the morning, so it's fairly clear what sort of clientele the Percy Shaw's management team are trying to attract. Next time I have a movie outing planned, I'll eat at home or bring a sandwich to the cinema.

The food was impressive and staff were friendly. Prices are extremely affordable for a pub. I was sceptical when it changed to a new pub from Wetherspoons but I've been pleasantly surprised on 2 occasions now. The chicken burger I had was clearly cooked from scratch with house made batter. It was a generous portion and tasted amazing. The new owners have certainly given the Percy Shaw a huge upgrade in my eyes, especially in terms of food, and I will certainly be back. I highly recommend you try it out if you haven't already. I have been to no other pub with this quality of food offering at this price.

Although no longer a Wetherspoon's pub, little has changed. The menu (on a rack by the entrance) has similar fare to the Wetherspoon's offerings. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and the potato was bigger than what Wetherspoon's used to serve up and the accompanying salad was bigger too. The meal tasted fine. There is (decent) music now throughout the pub which may not appeal to all and at present there is no WiFi. Those aside, still a nice place to eat.

Mothering Sunday treat from my son. Disappointed with the time waiting for food nearly 50 minutes which even after waiting all that time, looked extremely apertising on arrival to the table but once more disappointed as it arrived cold it wasn't as it it was even busy! At this point we were so hungry we just had to eat what was Infront of us as the thought of waiting any longer for freshly made (which we where offered) would have tipped me over the edge! On the positive side....food looked apertizing and tasted very nice even though cold, no complaints regarding the bar and waitressing staff just needs attention to detail with the kitchen staff

Went for lunch with my wife, we waited 20 minutes for our food, not bad, but the order was incorrect. When advising the staff, first we were told he had a lot to do( staff member) then said he will sort it out in five minutes. The rest of the order sat on the hot plate waiting for staff to serve them. Ten minutes in my wife approached what looked like the manager, advised what we had ordered, what was wrong and advised the remaining part of our order had been sitting on the hot plate for some time, advised while we were waiting on the rest of the order, the food we had on the table was cold, we got sorry we will sort it. A few minutes later manager came over with frozen peas and undercooked fries and said am sorry don't know what happened there and walked away. We observed the food hot plate while we finished our dishes drinks , we watched the chef take bacon of an already prepared chicken burger and just put it on a meat burger, we watched a member of staff take chips of a plate and eat them stating she hasn't had breakfast and hungry. This was a poor experience and can sadly say I won't be back.

This was our second visit since the Percy Shaw became an independently owned pub. The new owner has managed to keep prices very close to the level that applied when it benefitted from the buying power of Wetherspoons whilst at the same time improving the quality of the food offering. There were far more customers than on our last visit and at times the staff wasn't able to keep up with clearing and cleaning tables as quickly as might be desirable but they did catch up as a couple of large groups left. We will most definitely return to try the entire menu in due course and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Percy Shaw to anyone wanting a good value meal in Halifax.

First visit here Lovely friendy atmosphere and lovely building The Two stars are for the lovely staff and the coffee. However the salad and bruschetta were awful 😣 The Salad stated it had avocado and celery which it didn’t, but had radish in it which it shouldn’t have . We sat across from the kitchen and could see inside unfortunately. The lady had no gloves on and tore up the up the ham and I know there is no legal requirement to wear gloves although common sense would seemingly be appropriate especially when she drizzled the salad with a dressing and dug her hands to the bottom of the dish and proceeded to mix it in ! Now anyone knows that rings harbour both dirt and germs so that was an appalling thing to do ! The bruschetta looked delicious but tasted soapy for some reason?? We did try it but had to leave the whole meal . We will definitely be back for the coffee and the staff there are lovely but next time it will be a drink and traybake !
