Lovely pub with good decor and a nice "feel" to it. The staff were excellent and the service was very good. Menu choices were varied enough to satisfy all members of our party. Food was very tasty and presented well. We were hampered by the weather so couldn't enjoy the beer garden, but it certainly looked good. Prices were very competitive and fair. Overall a very pleasant lunch time family birthday and I would strongly recommend a visit. 5*.

Not impressed at all. Forgot one of our meals, so one of our party had to wait 20 mins for the meal, everyone else had finished. It's a weird thing to say but the portions were so big it was off putting. The food wasteage at the pub must be huge. No need for that much on one plate.Ordered Olives, we were laughing as they looked like they were from an Aldi's jar, no effort and tasteless, in brine.

Lovely Country pub and settings, dog friendly too which Is great. Unfortunately no table checks on food order and glasses left from prior occupants were not cleared away efficiently. Ordered some nibbles to share with my daughter and her partner. Chicken wings basket, belly pork and chicken goujons. Unfortunately a few of the wings were under cooked. I informed the staff but it was shrugged off, no offer of a refund. Please probe your food before allowing it to leave the kitchen, especially poultry!

Amazing food - ate here twice once after visiting the beach we stopped off for a burger and sandwich and the sweet potatoe fries were probably the best we have ever had. After a few disastrous meals at other pubs we came back here again and had 2 very lovely burgers the spinach and lentil as a veggie is amazing, lovely garlic bread and really good selection of veggie meals if you fancied something other than a burger. Topped of the holiday having a nice end of meal dinner.

Having had an excellent meal the day before, we had a shockingly bad experience when entertaining the family the next day. Excited to sample the local Welsh lamb, five of us ordered their roast with explicit instruction for as pink as possible. The lamb arrived burnt, overcooked, dry, and lacking in flavour. The response to our feedback was less than satisfactory. The management failed to make necessary amends for our poor experience.

Peli-can I get some service? Neglected and left to our own devices, we struggled the entire evening to get the attention of the waiting staff even though there were only two tables requiring service in the whole of the bar (pub completey empty). 10oz Ribeye Steak for the main course which looked like it had been scraped off the B4542 outside. Did we accidentally order from the dog menu? Apparently, frozen thick-cut chips are called "Posh chips" now. Your four legged friend can drink water for free at the Pelican, which is generous considering you will have to part with one of your kidneys for a few rounds of drinks. I tried to order English mustard because it's hotter than french and was told by the waitress that they keep their mustard in the fridge so it won't be hot. Really? Over £130.00 for some road kill, frozen chips, and practically self-service the entire evening, save yourself the hassle and drive past.

Unwelcoming atmosphere at Christmas time. Staff were disinterested and non attentive. A course in hospitality or an alternative occupation would be beneficial. While the menu stated coffee and mints we were asked to pay prior to receiving these. We then had to ask and these seemed to be then served reluctantly with cold coffee and no mints . Food and decorations were lovely but atmosphere and vibes given by rude staff were they couldn’t wait for us to finish our food and leave . Music was switched off during our meal and staff closed the bar at 10.45pm while closing time was 11pm . They knew we were waiting for a taxi at 11pm but made us feel uncomfortable so we had to wait outside.

First impressions were disappointing with only one other table occupied for a brief time we were there. When they left the music was turned off. At this point we were happy entertaining ourselves as the food and company was so good. However when we retired back to the bar area for our coffee & mints, this seemed like an effort from the staff & the coffees were tepid with no mints as per Christmas menu! At 10.45pm one of our group was turned away from the bar to order a wine while we waited for our taxi, as these were the rules. Our taxi was also 10 minutes late and we were not welcome to stay so we waited outside with the doors closed firmly behind us. Such a shame as the food was delicious and the pub itself was beautiful. Just a shame the pub was empty and the staff couldn't wait to get rid of us, even before 11pm when we had spent a lot of money as a group.

We called into The Pelican on the off chance on a Tuesday lunchtime when passing. The menu is quite extensive covering a good range of pub food. The pub was quite busy even at midweek ,but has enough room for diners in the bar area and restaurant. We were pleased to be shown a lunchtime menu with two meals for £15.00 so we ordered from this menu and have to say the meals were very generous and good value for the price. Would return again.

Called in on the way to an afternoon stroll on Ogmore beach. What a great choice! We both chose from the very reasonably-priced lunch-time menu that had plenty of options. The food was promptly served, piping hot and delicious. The service was excellent. We couldn't help overhearing a seemingly awkward customer complain about 'fishy-smelling' eggs! The waitress was really professional and ever so polite and accommodating, replacing the whole meal. We had no complaints, just praise, and will definitely return.

It's not the pub it once was. I haven't been in since long before lockdown. A few years back I sent everyone I knew here. It's OK, it's friendly enough but Feels like a run of the mill chain pub now with run of the mill chain pub food. It doesn't have that "local" feel it used to have so it's not worth travelling to anymore because I can get that vibe anywhere.

Called in mid-afternoon yesterday for a drink after visiting the local area. Having waited at the bar for five minutes due to staff concentrating on serving food, I ordered a pint of cider and a soda water and was charged £7.00!!! Having re-vamped both the interior and outside seating areas, it seems the prices have been increased to cover the cost. Whilst the food looked very nice, due to the price of drinks, coupled with a number of dogs inside and noisy families, we sat outside. Dogs should not be allowed inside eating areas, and whilst we are dog lovers, have witnessed staff patting them and not washing their hands in many places. Yet another in an increasing list of pubs that have now become gastro pubs, replacing the traditional olde worlde charm of a proper pub and concentrating on serving food rather than alcohol. If people want food then visit a restaurant!!! Doubt we will visit again due to the extortionate cost of drinks.

Lovely place and beautiful location overlooking the countryside and close to Ogmore beach. Food was mostly very good, I would definitely recommend the bbq chicken and cow pie. The salmon tagliatelle would have been nice but a side of peas, broad beans and green beans mixed in meant there was too much going on and it was watery. If the chef did it as advertised it could be lovely. The service was quick and attentive to dietary needs. Altogether a great place to eat and I’d recommend it.

This is the 9th review on here which includes the word rude. It’s quite an achievement to make so many people go out of their way to write such reviews -and while I’m not a cereal moaner the attitude of the person in charger here was enough to make me do the same. We were literally snapped at for just walking in and asking if there was a table available. We’d never been in before, had no idea of the size or layout of the place and had literally just stepped across the door to ask the question. We did end up staying and eating as there was shelter outside and there didn’t look to be many other options around. So as not to be too negative the rest of the staff were then really nice and helpful. The service was quick and food was all pretty good and not unreasonable. So, a mixed review from us, but it did serve a purpose. I wouldn’t go back though. There is no excuse for rudeness, especially from those who have chosen to work in hospitality.

Ordered the Chicken Balletine. It was truly awful! The chicken was overcooked and dry, the mushrooms undercooked. The risotto was a shocking attempt and somehow dry. The "crispy" mushrooms were limp and dry and completely tasteless. The whole dish was woefully under seasoned and in all, a mission to eat. The most baffling part was the downright crazy number of garlic cloves on the plate.. I counted at least 15 whole cloves in mine, either stuffed into the chicken breast or through the "risotto". They were whole roasted cloves and really bitter. I complained, hoping for at least a discount. The only offer was of "something else". I said the chips and garlic bread we'd ordered meant we'd had enough food so nothing else offered, just a "sorry". In addition, the service to people eating outside was non existent. Order at the bar, get your cutlery from a box lined with dirt and salt and pepper sachets. Not what you expect when paying over £15 for a main. Needless to say, we won't be returning and reccomend you avoid it!

Parking was tight for larger vehicles, but we did arrive at peak time, 7.30. Should be fine most of the time and there is an overflow area across the road. I ordered a cookiedoe. The cookie doe was underbaked and my stomach was hurting after although we told them that its undercooked they still managed to bring us the same underbaked cookidoe. I am very disapointed in this and will never be coming back.

Really nice beer garden and friend service. Dogs welcome and he got a treat. Food served all days except Monday. Unfortunately it was a Monday so cant comment on the food personally, but I had gone there on a good food recommendation.
