Great little spot. Went on a Sunday afternoon so wasn't too busy. Service was fast. Seating area was quiet and out the way of the main bar which was nice.

As a weatherspoons it's prices and choice are great, but this pub gets very noisy when full.

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Food quality is not so great. Food arrived too fast... judging by the cold temperature of the food served, it was cooked a while ago. Soft toast, cold egg, bacon and beans.

It's a decent spoons. Good location and good seats. Never had a bad visit.

The food was lovely, and served hot which is always preferable and surprising compared to other wetherspoons, where the food is udiallt cold or Luke warm. Definitely go there again.

Fare prices, pleasant staff, could do with an extra tv

Ordered scrambled eggs as an extra for breakfast, really wish I hadn't as I've been on and off the toilet all day and unfortunately ruined a day of holiday because of it same with the mushroom nothing special about those and ended up being sick. Word of Warning, be careful what you order!!!!

Really nice pub, good value for money. Staff friendly and the service was very efficient. Breakfast with free refills of coffee/tea/hot chocolate is a bargain and a great way to start the day.

Cheap and cheerful. Can eat as a celiac and they are helpful but the options are limited. I find I have to ask specifically as the online menu will not tell you if it is cooked safely for cross contamination, even if it is labelled as free of gluten. For example poppadoms are cooked in oil where glutenous food has been prepped. However they will do them in the microwave if you ask.

Cheap and great serving sizes. Ordered lemon chicken that came with the leg, thigh, wing, and breast! It was delicious well cooked. I also order the vegan roasted veggies and expected more for the price but all together was very filling

the bouncers all really let this spoons down. the bald one in particular is horrible. constantly patrolling tables with a hideous glare. bring back the old bouncers!!

One of the better wetherspoons around south wales, has a real cosy vibe to it.

It's a wetherspoons so you already know what to expect. Took out 11month old for breakfast, he loved the fruit bowl, would recommend.

The pub is a great addition the Barry, gets busy on weekends but the staff work hard and do a good job!

Hands down, the best Wetherspoons I’ve been in! It’s well-run, with a consistently great atmosphere—never too rowdy. The table service is great, the food is good, and there’s rarely a long wait. I love the variety on the menu, especially the seasonal options. Plus, the drink prices are great—you can get three beers for the price of one elsewhere! Normally head here for drinks before moving on to Good Sheds etc. The place is kept nice and tidy. A fantastic experience every time!

Being a Witherspoon's fan I can't fault it It's reasonably priced beer and food staff good food arrived within 10mins like most spoons if You want cheap food and beer that's ok it's worth a visit.

Lovely cod, strange taste on chips though

This place was so busy on an early Saturday evening. A couple of pitchers between us was just the right medicine lol. Its you order via the app then it's at your table so fast. I think it would take longer to take your order from when you first sat down, but ordering from the app. Well, the first drink was served in great speed. It suited us.

It took them four attempts to get one drink right.

Central area noisy and very echoey. Side areas were much quieter and pleasant. On the cheaper side of Wetherspoons variable pricing scale.

Update 5th October 2024. Most draft beer is available at LESS than £2 per pint! Yes, you read that correctly: LESS than two pounds per pint. It remains an excellent modern-style pub' most popular with the younger crowd but there were quite a number of oldies on this Saturday. Huge range of other drinks at very reasonable prices served by very friendly and helpful staff. Main down-side are the acoustics: when busy it is very noisy just from the chatter. Good location, bus-stop across the road and a rail station about 200m away.

One of the nicest Wetherspoons pubs I've been to. Wasn't too long to wait for food and it wasn't too busy either. Had the all day brunch and it was nice for food to come out still hot. Other Spoons I've been to and had the same meal only the chips have come out hot.

2 large breakfasts and 2 unlimited coffee's for £16 - Can't go wrong Food was hot , And service was quick using the app.

Stopped off for a meal. Enjoyed.

We ordered a curry and a burger. The burger came without it's advertised sauce, the waiter said he'd go fetch some but we waited so long that we had to go to the bar and request the sauce. The poppadoms were deep fried (they shouldn't be) this meant they were greasy, cutlery got greasy, glass got greasy 😔 not the best

Got thrown out as we had our 16 yr old son with us after 830on a queit Thursday night no problems being served in Hungary horse or brewers fayre won't be back again

We meet every 6 week at weather spoons in Barry myself and my friend both had steaks and we both. Have had really bad stomach cramps and using the loo a lot i have tried to ring with no joy

Bar and waiting staff were very polite food was good quality, the door staff on the other hand were bloody rude, I tried to take my 4 year old daughter and her friend to the toilets, and 3 door staff approached me and said "what do you think your doing get away from the the toilets" I tried to explain that my daughter was using the toilet, and i was just waiting for her, but they continued to raise their voices, as my daughter came out, no apology just walked off

After my years, knowledge of hospitality. Going to various weatherspoons. This is just the cream of the lot. Not only excellence the staff give naturally. But, food,perfect when brought to the table. Taste, presentation, cleanliness. Shrewsbury is the lowest experience where staff rudeness is not condoned. Drug usage on site. Security. But staff. Are they at Shrewsbury, complacent to weatherspoons allowing this poor performance. Then I go to Barry, Gwent. This Weatherspoons. Is an excellence. Staff are so lovely. Thank you.

Just wanted to pass on a special thanks to Jake, Ruby and the rest of the team in here. I’ve been down visiting from Glasgow, and genuinely could not have been made to feel more welcome. Great bar with a great layout and atmosphere. Clean and the beer garden is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks folks, it’s been a pleasure!

We came to the restaurant as a family of four to have something to eat and drink. There was no staff at the entrance, so we assumed there was free seating and found a table ourselves. The decision fell on the place that was least dirty. A waitress and a waiter who passed us a few minutes apart didn't even glance at us. At some point we got tired of waiting and decided to leave again. The place gave us a dingy impression. The floor was sticky and the tables were inadequately cleaned, if at all. If we assume that hygiene is the same in the kitchen, the removal was perhaps better for our health. Maybe this pub is good for people who want to get drunk cheaply. Everyone else should give it a wide berth.

There's no better place to unwind, relax and enjoy a meal and drink

Ex cinema. Wetherspoons have done a good job repurposing the building. Sometimes loud and busy. Sometimes not enough staff to keep up with custom and clearing tables. Drinks are still quite cheap and selection is huge. In general okay.

This is a great spoons. Busy and loud at night but the service is unwavering the standard of the food and drink is superb and the place is actually clean and tidy and was on all of our visits. We had dinner on a Friday night which was the Ramen Bowl and they are superb and we had 2 breakfast. Great value, great pub. Looking forward to returning.

Really decent Wetherspoons, good fast service, plenty of seating and really nice seating by the windows.

Voor de lunch had ik nog een adres nodig en daarom ging ik naar The Sir Samuel Romily in Barry. Ik koos voor een sirloin steak met jacked patatoes. Zoals gebruikelijk bij Wetherspoon werd het vlot geserveerd en smaakte prima.

Very impressed, ordered from the table and drinks were within a few minutes. The food was very nice, we had breakfasts and it was reasonably priced. Coffee was great and £1.56 for refillable.

Absolutely appalling place. My wife, my twelve year old son and I had not eaten as we had been travelling all day. For convenience, we decided to visit the Wetherspoon pub in Barry for our evening meal and a drink. We found a vacant table (of which there were many.) Table 23 which was about five metres from the bar. We took around five to ten minutes to decide on our meal and drink choices. I went to the bar and tried to place our order. At this point, there was no problem and i ordered the food. I was just going through the drinks and asked for a mineral water for my young son, when the lady taking the order asked if any of our party were under aged eighteen. I told her that my son was and she then said that she could not serve us as my son is under eighteen. I was absolutely outraged and complained strongly. She told me that children were not allowed in the pub, i think she said after 8.30. The time was not even 8.30pm anyway. The staff also had a clear view of us when we entered the pub and sat down. Nothing was said at that point. I would have still been annoyed if it had, but they let us sit there and said nothing, then took the bulk of the order at the bar. Even if this is their policy (which i find outrageous, bizarre and discriminatory to children and families,) they must have noticed us and had ample opportunity to say something, rather than wasting our time and denying us a meal when we were hungry. I thought the UK had grown out of this backward attitude decades ago re children going in pubs and restaurants with family. I asked to speak to the manager and briefly complained to her. She also said that because we would be in the pub after 8.30, then we would be in breach of their rule. A rule, which i might add, appears to be unwritten anywhere i could find on their notices. We checked the front door and windows and there was no mention of children not being allowed to eat after a given time. And even if there was any notice, it's still an absolute outrage. We left the pub. My young son was very upset and in tears. My deaf partner and i were very upset too. It created a difficulty in me explaining to her what had happened. I'm not sure how your Wetherspoons system works, but i really think the staff in the pub need to do a lot better. Even if that is their unfathomable and crazy rule, they should adopt a more flexible and inclusive approach to customer service. As a result of this incident, i'm unlikely to be taking my family to a Wetherspoons pubs ever again. I sent in a complaint, but as yet, it has not been acknowledged. A sad state of affairs that they would see a weary family go hungry.

Great place down the road from our hotel. Service was so quick. The food was hot and tasty, the coffee free flowing. You can't beat it for brekky.

Excellent experience we had, customer service was awesome. Our daughter likes the cheesy tomato pasta, chef mistook for spaghetti bolognese but got rectified straight away. Other than that the food was great, beer selection and prices are the most reasonable across all others chains of pubs. We love Wetherspoon!

Popped in for a cheeky drink as it's only a six minute walk from Gwen's house used in Gavin & Stacey. That hill is steep!!!! Nice pub. Lots of quiet areas to sit. Family friendly & prices were the norm for Wetherspoons. Number 60 for us hence the photo of the table number.

Just went for a drink , old peculiar on draught was a pleasant surprise . A bottle of lovely Villa Maria sauvignon at just over £14 was a bit expensive at the side of Asda but it is a pub after all

Went to order gammon only 2 left by 7.45 so had steak. Ordered rare . It came cremated and was grossly.

Standard spoons looks bigger inside than expected

Great pub and great staff, Emily was a great asset to the establishment, prompt service and good food, hopefully be back again.

Cheap drink and food, very large pub, lovely toilets, smoking shelter out the back, open 8am for breakfast, which was lovely. Next to train station and round the corner from our hotel. Very convenient

Had a trip to Barry and decided upon stopping for lunch as we wandered around. The Sammy Romilly honed into view as we strolled, minding our own business. A Wetherspoons pub and as such we could have scripted what it would look before we ambled through the door. A sea of tables, the odd booth, an utterly dreadful carpet and the menus standing and laying around the pub like soldiers on parade who have lost the will to live. A fourteen mile route march to the toilets, staff in varying degrees of bewilderment/annoyance/indifference, etc. And we were right. We ordered a curry and a burger, not on the same plate. They duly arrived, at the same time, on separate plates. The curry was delicious, so my wife tells me. The burger was quite nice, so I told my wife. We enjoyed the meal and decided Barry has one of the more enjoyable Wetherspoons to pass through.

The best Wetherspoons around. The staff are absolutely amazing.

I feel this venue is too big for the staff to manage especially for food we ordered our meal at the bar, it turned up 40 minutes later lukewarm, so sorry to say we will not be returning, it's a shame as the other weatherspoons pubs we have visited have always been good.

I am a frequent visitor of this particular Wetherspoons. I visit when it’s quiet or busy and I must say the staff handle every situation amazingly. The pub manager Nathan is very helpful and knowledgeable, on all of the products that are sold, especially the ale and is very helpful when needed. A rather young manager who I have learnt is called Emily is always welcoming and can never do enough for anyone. All of the managers work hard, and it can be acknowledged that the team is in good hands. I recommend this pub too many Ale drinkers as they have a large variety and are part of the good beer guide, but I would happily bring my family to this establishment, knowing that they will be treated with respect and their every need will be met.

Probably one of best wetherspoons been to. Good staff, great prices and amazing building. Used to be a cinema.

Very clean and spotless Pub, food was served in a timely manner and helpful staff when served at the bar. My husband is disabled, so during our visit, we needed to use the access lift which wasn’t working. I spoke to a lovely young lady, I didn’t quite catch her name, but she was quite petite with short blonde hair and a fringe. Who helped us and fix the problem in no time. would happily return again

It’s a spoons … we knew what to expect food drink wise( our food was actually good and good value drinks) the bar staff however… so rude .. go to the bar to be treated with yeah , so give the drink order , and nothing but that the price and done , no customer service skills whatsoever and this is from 3 different staff, one of them looked managerial, the person that bought our food was very polite, but our dirty plates sat with us for over an hour. Main gripe was the miserable bar staff, if you don’t like your job , move on

Decent pub with good food. 3 plates was slightly disappointing compared to other wheterspoons with smaller portion sizes.
