Lovely venue and friendly staff. But £17+ for frozen fish and frozen chips that could have been bought at Lidls for a tenth of the price didn't Impress me.

Stopped for pub lunch here in the garden which was very nice. Pub has a true country feel and the garden with birds in was nice. Food and beer was good and reasonable cost. The kids play frame may need some stiffing up as was very wobbly.

Fantastic. Absolutely wonderful atmospheric pub, lovely friendly staff, great food and ale. Delicious vegetarian meals for two of us and excellent meals for the carnivorous couple. Faultless, unhurried service from an excellent waitress. Exactly what every pub should aspire to. Recommended 100%.

Absolutely vile vegan food. Chef clearly despises the existence of vegans as he's ripping them off and selling them what might be dog food from the 90s. In all seriousness, their entire menu is uninspired and made up of frozen and canned food they buy for pittance and sell as if five star. Head up the road to burger king if you want something made with care and attention because this food is not. Salad on the plate is all cheap watery tomatoes and poorly cut red onion slices. I actually feel embarrassed I ate here. AVOID!

Pretty pub from the outside but that’s all I can say that is positive. My mum and I ordered a ploughman’s - well, hardly any cheese, the ham was so fatty and veiny I couldn’t eat it. Bread was ok but not what you’d expect for a ploughman’s. Apple was brown, no coleslaw, tiny bit of lettuce garnish. All in all not a great lunch and it’s not cheap. Asked if we could have more cheese & that would be an extra £2.50 for about 2 bites ☹️☹️

An appalling ploughman’s lunch. As per a previous review, disappointing small cheese pieces, an old bit of stilton, a hard boiled egg which is not really suitable for a ploughman’s and very poor fatty ham. All for £16.

We called in on a whim for a quick, light lunch. Amazing looking place and we were received with a warm welcome (although the pub was strangely empty for a very sunny Friday lunchtime). Very few light options on the menu. Too hot for a baked potato. Decided that we'd treat ourselves to salads: at nearly £16 each we had reasonably high expectations. Went for the tuna niçoise and the caprese. We went and sat in the pleasant garden and the food was served promptly. The tuna salad was unremarkable, poor value for £16 and pretty bland - but not poor enough to elicit a two-star review. My wife's caprese salad was disappointing. The mozzarella was sufficient but the tomatoes were literally lacking any taste at all: from memory the menu described them as 'sweet'. We were hungry: my wife ate the cheese but left the tomatoes (which were the principal element of the dish in terms of volume). The waitress came 'round to ask how we enjoyed the food and looked shocked when we raised a grievance. She went off to speak to the chef and returned, offering complementary drinks. That was genuinely appreciated but we needed to head off for an appointment. We proposed that, instead, the cost of the caprese salad should be refunded as it had not been enjoyed. Another member of staff (I assume, senior, and apparently acting on behalf of the manager - who had decided against our suggestion for a partial refund) then came to speak to us and it all got a bit surreal. The tomatoes were locally-sourced from their trusted supplier and, no, she hadn't tried them as she doesn't eat tomatoes. She didn't know if the chef had. We said that we'd been asked if the food was OK and had said 'no' but a remedy which helped us had not been offered. She said that they had been trained to ask that (but, it seems, the lesson only covered the scenario where the food was acceptable). We tried again to explain but this was eliciting some mildly defensive behaviour so we left. It was a pity, really.

I pity any ploughmen eating here! At £16 for the ploughman’s lunch, we were expecting a good spread. Wrong! Most disappointing was the cheese. Normally the jewel in a ploughman’s - instead we got identical little portions of sweaty plastic cheese, cut from a catering block (evidence the shrink-wrap wrinkles). The Cheddar, Leicester & Double Gloucester fingers were so uniform in size, they must have been portioned with a measuring ruler! In other news: 2 mean slivers of apple, no coleslaw, not enough bread for a proper ploughman’s. On the plus side: nice bread, OK Stilton, hard-boiler egg, good slice of ham - not wanted, but essential to compensate for the cheese. Plenty pickles too, but if you don’t like silverskin onions, gherkins & Branston - there’s nothing else to accompany your cheese & ham other than the 1 solitary Romaine lettuce leaf, whose main purpose seemed to be covering the platter to make it look full. By comparison: that same evening in Chart Hill we feasted on salmon & swordfish with plenty of veg/salad - for just £1 extra. Know which one we’ll be going back to! The Peacock is a pretty pub on the outside but - as many other reviewers here have said - rather let down by the poor food on the inside

This is a good, old pub, in a lovely setting, with very friendly, welcoming staff and good service. It is dog friendly and has a sizeable car park. Unfortunately, we thought that the food was unremarkable. My wife and I both had chicken and bacon salads. There was plenty of salad but, in both cases, the chicken was overcooked, dry and hard. The salads were not cheap at £15.90 each. The vegan ice cream was £7.95. The coffee and tea were fine. The venue is pleasant but, in our case at least, we thought that the cooking was not that good.

We were on our way to Bedgebury when we saw The Peacock and thought we'd drop in for some lunch. There was an outdoor play area which appealed to our son. We walked in and the pub was virtually empty. A pleasant young waiter took our drinks order, and we thought we'd sit at a table in the bright, airy conservatory area. A woman came up to us shortly after and asked our name, and when we told her, she said the table we were sat at was actually reserved. I offered to move to another table, but the one I chose next was apparently reserved too. "Well where are the signs?" I asked. She claimed they had ran out, yet I couldn't see any on any other tables either. We then told them to forget it and walked out. We then continued our journey and about a mile later, came to The Goudhurst Inn. They were much more accommodating and we had a lovely meal there instead!

Decided on this place as it offers a range of gluten free meals. Unfortunately it was let down by the lack of experienced staff or staff that could be bothered. When we arrived we were shown to our table and given 2 menus to share between the 7 of us. At no point were we told if there was anything unavailable or that it was a reduced menu from the advertised menu on Facebook. Drinks ordered which then took 20 minutes to come. Finally ordered food, only to be told that several options they had run out of. Waited well over an hour from ordering food before food arrived. I ordered a gluten free blackened salmon with sweet potato fries which is supposed to come with salad, when it came it was with normal fries so I told the waitress I had asked for sweet potato fries and asked her to check that it had been prepared gluten free, she took the plate away and about 5 minutes later sent another waitress over to say they were just preparing the sweet potato fries. When they finally brought the meal out I asked again if it was gluten free and asked where the salad was, waitress then stated they had run out of salad, she went to check if it was gluten free and came back with a bowl of lettuce and tomato which she said they had just had a delivery. Food was OK, nothing special and completely let down the service and staff. When they came to clear plates I asked to speak to person in charge, when she came over I explained the problems and she just had a pile of excuses such as only been open a month, eat out to help out extra busy, new staff etc etc. Reading reviews it looks like this has been an ongoing problem since they opened after covid, they problems should have been ironed out by now. Really disappointed and a ruined evening. Avoid if you want good food and good service because at the moment you won't find it at The Peacock.

I hate to give a poor review after the COVID crisis facing us all and the hospitality industry but I feel compelled to be honest. The good- attractive pub, reasonable menu. That’s it though. We asked for our first pint in four months and got given advice that was clearly wrong about the beers on offer. We weren’t ready immediately with our food order and then had to wait half an hour- literally- to be seen again. Despite there being 3 waiting staff and 15 people in the whole place. When the food eventually came (after people who arrived after us had ordered, eaten, paid and left) it was a ridiculously small portion for the price we paid and of poor quality. For example my daughter’s burger was burnt; the lettuce in my husbands burger was rooted and not chopped; my curry was spread all over the plate to make it look big; no gherkins as promised (though when we complained we did get some). The service was casual and very slow indeed; the lady serving us clearly couldn’t care less but the lad who came along tried a little to make things better. In terms of covid- no general wiping as I’ve seen in other places; food served on wooden boards with cuts in them which can clearly harbour germs; customers sitting shoulder to shoulder... the staff didn’t seem to care less when we complained. When we left a car of four adults drove in and asked us what we thought. We were polite but honest. They left. I am writing this because I do t want others to be disappointed and because I don’t want what could obviously be a wonderful pub let laziness grind it down.

Given the hot plate we asked for 2 spare plates for the kids, met with an incredulous reply. I didn't feel I could even ask for tea spoons frankly. A shame as lovely food and rest of the staff are clearly great.

Called in for a very late lunch when we had given up any chance of finding somewhere to eat at 4 o'clock on a winter's afternoon. We were warmly welcomed both by the staff and the atmosphere in this old-fashioned pub; those log burners were certainly doing their job. My wife is Gluten Free and there was a good choice for her on the menu. She had the rack of ribs because this is the only place round us we have so far found that produce Gluten Free sauces to go with the ribs. There was also a good choice of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The food was well presented, well cooked, very tasty and the portions were more than sufficient. The price was also reasonable. And one further bonus, it is dog friendly.

Five of us lunched here mid-week. The food is always good here as is the real ale. Slightly on the expensive side for a pub.

Our family of six enjoyed a super tasty Sunday roast at the Peacock. Food was delicious, portions were generous and staff were welcoming and attentive. Certainly a great place to spend time enjoying Sunday lunch.

Having read the good reviews we popped in for lunch when passing. We received a warm welcome which was a good start and when taking our orders were informed that the days special was Homemade lasagne with garlic bread and salad. Now, I love a homemade lasagne so that was an easy choice and hubby ordered macaroni cheese. It took a long time to arrive and oh the disappointment when it came! It was a small solid slab of what looked and tasted like processed supermarket lasagne. The outside was hot but the inside still tepid as it hadn't been reheated enough. The garlic bread was actually two slices of white bread lightly toasted and spread with garlic butter but had gone slightly floppy. The salad was the only good thing on the plate. Hubbys macaroni cheese was a solid greasy mess. The worst lunch I have had in a long time. We were asked if everything was okay and I'm ashamed to say I did the British thing and said yes, because looking round the pub I decided I couldn't cope with the confrontation and left.

Thank goodness for this traditional, good honest pub. There’s nothing wrong with the poshed up, gastropub which seems to be everywhere of late. However, if you want a proper pub with good local beer, lovely traditional food and friendly service then The Peacock is a little gem.

Stopped in last Sunday for some lunch. Noticed on the board outside must pre-book, went in and asked as we hadn’t booked “no problem” we were told. Offered a nice table and given menus, we decided it was too hot for a roast so both had scampi and chips which were lovely, no nasty watery pink stuff and a good sized portion as well, not too big but didn’t leave you wanting more.

On a magnificent September Sunday, we arrived at this attractive 14th-century pub in the Kent countryside as recommended by friends. We had booked and judging by the busy car park had made the right decision. Walking from the car we saw most of the diners and drinkers had taken up positions in the large garden, and why not?

Six of us met at the Peacock for an early Friday night supper and found it comfortable and relaxing. Attentive staff, drinks quickly brought, left in peace to talk before deciding on our orders, no blaring music or deafening shouts from the nearby bar (as in a recent visit to a different pub). Two of us ordered the ribs (honey glaze version) and found them absolutely delectable. Delicious meat fell off the bones with ease and were highly appreciated. The fish and chips orders were very good, and the giant chips were much liked and held their heat better than the slimmer ones served with the ribs. The lemon posset that two of us ordered afterwards was amazingly good.

A group of us went mid week, a tuesday, for lunch. There is ample parking and a nice garden if the weather is fine. Inside it has very low ceiling and people of even an average height will find themselves having to duck, or walk with a stoop, permanently. My only grouse!

Three of us went for a meal Thursday evening and found staff very welcoming. The food was extremely tasty and portions were good. A couple of us had swordfish and the size of the steak was good, jacket potato fluffy and even the side salad had a nice dressing. We will definitely be going back.

4 years ago after going on a long walk round Cranbrook, my wife and I were struggling to find a pub still serving food when we came across the Peacock. In our mind we had a fantastic meal but we were never sure if that was because we were really hungry and desperate for food after our walk or that it was the high quality food served at the pub. Consequently, we decided to visit again when we were in the area and... the food is fantastic.

Var en tur i Calverley Grounds for en gåtur og da der kom en regn byge valgte vi at gå ind i denne lille hyggelig cafe. Her er servering både inde og ude. Hyggelig typisk engelsk.

A lovely lunch today … tasty shepherds pie my partner had the lamb shank, which was beautifully cooked. I would highly recommend a visit to Waterside cafe, great food at a reasonable price, welcoming staff and all in a great setting overlooking beautiful lake! Will be back again!

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, offering a cosy and relaxing environment. I recommend taking a table by the window to enjoy the views accross the park. Decided to indulge in 2 of the sharing boards with my friend and a bottle of wine. Nicely presented food and excellent service from the staff.
