The Bull in Tunbridge Wells

Lovely old school pub. No heirs or graces but friendly people, good beers and lovely food. Makes a nice change from some of the boudoir style pubs with through the roof prices.

Very quiet and initially I was concerned about ordering any food because of this. I can honestly say though that the burger with the melted cheese, bacon and mushroom was perfect 👌 Pity about the ambience being cold and no one else was there for lunch. The owner needs to replace the Guinness draught too as the tap is broken and it is impossible to get a proper pint poured. 10/10 for the barmans efforts though.

After a wait of one hour and 15 minutes from ordering, the meal arrived looking pretty much like a school dinner. Two dried slices of pork, no crackling, two balls of stuffing, we asked for applesauce and were told there was none left but they found basically two teaspoonfuls, four tiny roast potatoes, no parsnips as advertised on the menu as coming with a roast, a tiny amount of cabbage and four Brussel sprouts cut into half luckily we had ordered additionally cauliflower cheese which was undercooked and the sauce was burnt. It really was the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. The glass of Rioja I ordered was off, but in fairness this was deducted from the bill. The waiting staff were very nice but completely untrained and inattentive, all in all an absolute waste of time and money really, really disappointing.

Used to go to the Bull regularly a few years ago so good to see it is still a welcoming local pub. Popped in for a quick drink on our way home from a walk and were impressed by the warm welcome from behind the bar and the friendly atmosphere. Husband wanted to try the guest ale before buying which was no problem and I was offered a choice of white wines by the glass. Didn’t eat but it was a Sunday and the table next to us had cleared their plates and were very happy when asked if everything was ok. All in all a welcome neighborhood venue back on our list.

Stopped off for a pint a couple months ago and have been back a few times since. Served by the same girl behind the bar each time, always smiling and pleased to see us - even when the Mrs ordered a shandy (drink a proper pint Tara it’s embarrassing). Quality pub, no complaints at all

Well I am lost for words, this was the worst dining experience I have had in years. We ordered roast beef and roast pork, chicken katsu curry and a burger. The roast turned up and potatoes already looked overcooked and dry. My husband had ordered pork and was given beef with nothing being said, it was only that we said that they acknowledged it wasnt beef. No cauliflower cheese was brought out until we asked and it appeared a bright orange yellow with no cauliflower only broccoli which we already had in the roast. It tasted like processed cheese. The meat looked like slices of meat from a packet you'd buy in the supermarket and not worth the £18.95 they were charging. Also asked for mustard and were served american burger mustard. The burger was bright pink in the middle and cold and the chicken katsu was covered in rock salt and cold crunchy rice which looked and tasted like it had come from a sachet. We complained to the waitress who was very understanding and said she would speak to the chef. We then went up to get the bill and another server was stood next to her scowling at us. I wish I had looked at the trip advisor reviews more closely as we ended up going on a whim after doing an escape room. Please don't waste your time going here. I would have taken photos but we were being glared at from the bar and we felt so uncomfortable we wanted to leave.

We met there for a Sunday lunch for my neices birthday and were all very much looking forward to scrumpy roast dinner. We noticed it was a bit chaotic and disigmorised, the waitresses took our menus before we'd even ordered. We made our orders, was disappointed that they'd ran out of lamb but most of us settled for the pork. After we'd ordered, we were informed that they'd ran out cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puddings and crackling. Food arrive, half of them had no gravy and ones that did. Well the gravy was disgusting, tasted like dishwater. Half of us had no carrots, the food was stone cold, the meat was tastless, the roast potato's were chewy( clearly reheated) This was positively the worst roast dinner ever. They seriously need to get their act together.

Since the new landlady has taken over with a vision for the pub, it seems like a completely new place. Love the fish and chips here, staff are friendly and welcoming. Support local and pay them a visit!!

Great new ownership. They were very accommodating to a gathering we had after a funeral. Very good food and atmosphere. Also a great place to go for dinner etc 👍🏻

We were meeting friends halfway between where we all lived and randomly booked a table at The Bull for lunch, as we both had dogs so needed somewhere dog friendly. The manager/landlord was very welcoming and there was even a plate of dog biscuits on the table which the dogs appreciated! As for our food, it was delicious- homemade and tasty and served nice and hot. The soup was tasty, as were the steak and ale pies. Good selection of deserts which went down a treat! The pub is family friendly and has a selection of board games, which you don’t find in many pubs these days. There is a seating area outside for if the weather ever improves! A great find - just wish we lived nearer to The Bull!

We enjoyed our visit to The Bull last night. Dinner was excellent and the service friendly and efficient throughout the evening. Live music created a lively atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I expect we'll be regular patrons.

Popped in to the pub in the afternoon last week. It was very cold outside and colder inside. Very quiet, which is understandable at that time. I know it’s new management and I wish them the best and hope they make it work.

We held a wake at The Bull. They were absolutely brilliant and the food was great. The overall experience was outstanding.

This is a local pub to us and we have only been a few times in nearly 2 years. We came for a roast and it was quite nice. It is always nice to have a cosy pub to walk to on a cold day after a walk in the local forest for a drink or something to eat but, I have found the couple of times I have been here it feels quite cold. It's a lovely pub and there is more they could do with it to make it feel more welcoming and more cosy in the winter. The fire wasn't on and it was really cold out. Sitting on the sofas with a lovely warm fire would make you want to stay longer and drink more lol. We only had 2 drinks and left because we couldn't take our coats off the entire time we were there. Just felt cold and a bit dull. Different lighting, fairy lights, or candles would make all the difference to this pub as it has the potential to be beautiful. Just needs a little bit of TLC. Winter, fire roaring, nice mood lights, cosy vibes and you would want to sit there for a while. It would be a bit more inviting.

The food was really nice, I had the tower burger but the burger patty was rather small it got dwarfed by the bun and I found I was just eating bun with no meat at points. The portion of chips could’ve also been a bit bigger. The prices per pint are also top end for Tunbridge wells with paying nearly £7 a pint which is close to London Prices. I would go back because the food was lovely but not for drinking as it is expensive and not centrally located so driving is required

Really nice and friendly pub. Lovely menu food cooked fresh and hot . My friends were raving about their burgers. Good selection of drinks and the manager Nathan was friendly polite and attentive. A very unassuming pub which was a great surprise and we would definitely go back . They have parking also.

Tried a meal there about a year ago, wasn't impressed. Totally different now, went up there last week and my boys and I got the burger & chips. It's literally the best burger and the best chips we've had in our life's. Staff were brilliant too. Will be back more often now.

I had a friend pass away and the bull hosted the family after. I dont drink but the food was amazing. I loved how the calibre of food met the surroundings. btw guys please be mindful of the main road as its pretty close to the pub, if any customers get tipsy might get into trouble. but 5 stars all around I intend to go back next year for my friends anniversary

Food and service excellent. Easy to park, would definitely recommend. Menu choice was great with a good choice of light and more substantial meals.

Stopped here after travelling back from a day trip to the coast. Glad we chose here to stop. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming. They had a nice variety of food on the menu. The food was tasty and a good price. We would definitely stop here again.

We had such a fantastic dinner celebration at The Bull Restaurant. Everyone was welcoming, the food was delicious, beer deliciously cold and we had fun as the soccer game was on, music playing and this neighborhood pub came to life! Cheers, Spicy Jan

Popped in for their monthly quiz night which was very entertaining. Lovely staff, punters and atmosphere.

My husband and I together have 15 years in the hospitality industry and we rarely find a place we can’t fault, that changed this evening when we came to the Bull. The service, the food, the price was impeccable. We live near and will be returning, shepherd Neame have knocked it out the park with this one

Omg wouldn’t give the food to my dog. Had to send my roast back 4 times another roast had the string in it from the beef just glad the kids didn’t have beef.one of the burgers was still raw in the middle so that got sent back.and the chicken was black and so dry the kids couldn’t eat it. And the staff had attitude (well tried to) wouldn’t go back my life depended on

So we had a meal last night at The Bull. The service was on point. Nothing was too much, drinks arrived promptly glasses were always topped up. The food was amazing hopefully the pictures can do justice to the quality of the meal we had. Every mouth full of food was tasty. I have to say that was the best Xmas Dinner I have had in years. I will be back to sample more delights on there menu.

Wow what can i say, random journey to Tonbridge today and we were Pleasantly surprised by this little gem. The food was delicious and the staff are so lovely and friendly, you got it just right. The service and food out weighed the lack of parking. Thankyou so much and we will visit again.

Sunday Lunch was ok, but waited 50 mins for it to arrive. No apology. Also, I know prices have gone up everywhere, but £17 for a one course roast. Really?

A traditional pub which was buzzing with local families and friends gathered around large tables. We went for Sunday lunch, lunch was above average price which we don’t mind if the food is well prepared and meat good quality. However, the food was awful. The meat was tough and leathery and the cauliflower cheese was prepared with processed sandwich cheese slices. For a Shepherd Neame pub here was only one ale available so overall not a memorable experience. Don’t bother.

We stopped on the way home. What a lucky find. The guys behind the bar were friendly and still smiling when we, with our sugar rushed child left. (He had eaten, and never will again, a Kipling cake!) The food was really lovely, the portions a good size and well presented. There was a great choice of food for both adults and children. Thank you for your patience. We would definitely recommend this pub.

Very disappointed. Had the pub told me when I booked there was no choice of beers and that service would be maddingly slow (even to get a menu having booked) I would have chosen to go elsewhere. At £6 each the desserts were tiny (my cheesecake was a slice about 1cm wide and 5cm long and was not served with any cream or ice cream, my friends cake was the thinnest slice possible). The main course was ok but nothing special. Very poor experience. Feel really ripped off.

Ordered 2 roast beef meals to be delivered. £15 each,We both received,half a carrot each,a teaspoon of cauliflower cheese…only 3 roast potatoes and 2 burnt Yorkshire puddings Incredibly disappointed

Portion size of peas with the haddock is smaller than the pot of tartar sauce so basically about a quarter of the size of a normal side portion. Two mouthfuls at best.

The Bull was the venue for the wake following the funeral of an old friend. The service was good and the range of food was first class. Everyone who was there agreed it was an excellent spread. Thank you to The Bull.

We went here today as a family of 11 and the food was amazing, compliments to the chef, the staff were polite and friendly. They had baby facilities and they made sure the children were fed first. Would definitely recommend and go again!! 😊

BEST PUB IN KENT! Food is amazing, served to perfection and really good prices! Drinks are always perfect and have a massive selection. If your looking for a nice meal or a a place to meet your mates, this is the place! If you are going to get any burger get the PULLED PORK one! They even do vegan operations! The vegan salted caramel cheesecake is SOOOOO NICE!!! 100000% recommend!!!

Just ordered a takeaway from here on deliveroo.. ordered the roast lamb which turned up without the gravy or Yorkshire pudding..!!! Very dissapointed would be an understatement .made for a very dry and incomplete meal experience

We asked Zoltan to get us some steak for our Anniversary supper. He cooked 2 rib eyes to perfection with sauce bernaise and peppercorn. Great service too from Lauren. A perfect evening.

After switching around management and chefs for a few months. They finally made it. The bar there is top quality, brilliant for watching a bit of football or rugby. Outstanding during winter and summer. Food is truly great, but during winter, there are barely any spaces. Either way the place is pretty cosy with a fireplace, a few stools, tables, and sofas. A place to go for a catch up with your mate.
