Amazing hotel. Quirky decor and great location. Wonderful selection of beers in the bar and a lovely garden overlooking the rocks. Check out the cave snug too.

As a regular visitor to Tunbridge Wells my first choice for my overnight stay is always the Mount Edgcumbe - such a treat. The rooms are luxurious, comfortable and beautifully decorated and furnished - from the smallest to the largest. At less busy times my room has been upgraded. Every detail has been thought of. From arrival to departure, the staff are helpful and friendly - achieving a nice balance of attentiveness and space while providing a personal service. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the food is delicious. Dinner and breakfast are a treat. This is a family-run hotel, intimate and cosy, where everything is about the guest. I will, of course, be back there soon.

I’ve stayed a few times at Mount Edgcumbe and today I took along a friend for dinner. It was heaving for a Monday evening. We had drinks, starters and mains. Professional service and very friendly. Magdalena, behind bar, very adequately manoeuvred us from waiting drinks to an available table! Nice evening, laughs and a reason to come back! Thank you

We have had many very enjoyable meals here, but I feel that the place has new owners as our meal on Tuesday was less than mediocre. The burgers overcooked and only tasted of the griddle it was served with an oversweet onion relish which dominated what flavour there was. Apart from the chips we felt the meal to be overpriced and not at all value for money.

I live in hope that the good will improve to justify its prices. But I’m constantly disappointed. Which is a great shame as it’s a unique venue and will be better once the building works on the terrace are completed. I ordered the green seafood curry. While the salmon and prawns were perfectly cooked, the sauce was devoid of all flavour except dried chilli. The rice was grey and stodgy. The other two members of the party ordered medium rare steaks. The cheap cuts of rump tasted fine, but were chewy, with plenty of fat and gristle, which our cocker spaniel enjoyed. The chips were dry and overcooked.

As far as rooms go, I only popped in for a couple of pints, so I can only talk about the public areas. The bar decor is quite nice, with a reasonable selection of ales. The "cave" is a particularly nice place to sit and have a quiet pint. Or, I would imagine, a cosy chat with a couple of friends. I'd recommend reserving it if that's what you plan. The outside area looks like it would have a great view, but sadly it is chucking it down as I write this. They also allow dogs for those who are interested.

Food used to be amazing here. Not sure if management has changed but now food is below average. Such a shame! Staff lovely and attentive and fantastic setting.

Beautiful bar with a lovely atmosphere. Magda served us and was fantastic! Magda went to a huge effort to make sure we found a wine that I liked. She was excellent. 100% recommend.

A lovely place with excellent food! We were only visiting the restaurant, but it made a very positive impression on us. The Mount Edgcumbe is very spacious and has inside a lot of tables. We got a nice table in the upstairs part of the restaurant with a separate room and a big spacious dining table. The food was good, tasty, and freshly prepared. I can highly recommend the Harvey's Battered Haddock, the Seafood Board and the Beef Burger. The Selection of Nibbles was also very tasty. Service was friendly and willing to help with choosing the right dish. Next time, we will definitely try the hotel for an overnight stay!

We visited as a family party of 7 - for a late lunch last Saturday. We were so impressed with the wonderful meal and drinks, the outstanding service and help given by their staff, particularly Charlie, who looked after us all brilliantly, and the welcoming and happy atmosphere. We had a lovely time. Thank you, it was, and is, very much appreciated.

Last Saturday, my friends and I had the pleasure of dining at The Mount Edgcumbe. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for the rest of the evening. The ambiance of the pub is charming, with its cozy yet lively atmosphere. There is so much to choose from on the menu, whether you're a meat lover, enjoy seafood or a vegetarian, there's something to please everyone and everything was delicious. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. Thank you to the entire team for a great evening. We'll definitely be back soon!

We have been going to this venue fairly regularly for a few years but I'm afraid our recent experience was poor. On a positive note, the location, ambience, decoration and service remains first class but the food was very disappointing. We had the mixed starter platter which resembled party food from Tesco's! For a main course I had Moules Mariniere which was a pile of unbearded mussels in a very watery flavorless salty broth. My partner had an overcooked burger which was again very salty and this morning has been complaining of a sore stomach. She also had a glass of luke warm white wine which was not right! We asked the waitress to change it, which she did with the comment that the " lady downstairs thinks it is alright"!! IT WASN'T!! It pains me to write this review as we have always liked the location. I seriously think it is time for the menu to be reviewed. Interestingly, I overheard the table next to us complaining about how salty the food was as well.

Was here for the restaurant, not the rooms. Food is great, highly recommend.

We have had Sunday Lunch here on multiple occasions and it has always been excellent. Ordered roast chicken for a change and when it was served up the skin was black and burnt. Due to previous experience we assumed that it might have been honey glazing that was burnt. Wrong! The chicken was as dry as could be. It was probably a one-off but the Chef should not let food like this out of the kitchen.

Yesterday ten of us had a fabulous lunch celebrating Lynne's Special Birthday. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We dined in a private upstairs room, which was beautifully decorated and just the right size for our party. We will certainly be returning.

I booked The Mount Edgcumbe for a special birthday meal with friends and was not disappointed, everything was perfect. We had the private dinning room and the sofa area to use beforehand which was wonderful. The food was amazing and thoroughly enjoyed by all and the service from beginning to end was absolutely excellent. All the staff made the booking and organising so easy. We will certainly be back!

We booked the private dining room for my twins’ 18th birthday for a late Sunday lunch. There were 10 of us and the room felt just the right size for us all. We had pre-ordered our food which made things run smoothly. The service and attention to detail by all that looked after us, but a particular mention to Jade, was superb. The food was lovely but more than that the service we received made it very special. Merry was brilliant at communicating with me through the planning stages and we were able to drop off a cake and balloons in the morning which was helpful too. The Edgcumbe has been a favourite location since I moved to the town 20 years ago and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you again to the team - you helped make a special occasion one to remember

Had lunch with the whole family (10 adults & 4 grandson) for my wife’s birthday in the upstairs private dining room. The welcome & service we received was outstanding. The proposed extension looks very exciting and we look forward to returning in the summer.

Lovely cave bar, however for drinks I think they have just 4 tables. (Lots for food)

Varied menu with lots of choice - vegetarian, fish, meat starters and mains plus sharing platters. Nice touch that you can have some of the starters as mains too. Food was good, big portions, well presented. Set in lovely surroundings, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Parking can be a challenge although you can usually find somewhere to park on the road.

Great service. Friendly and welcoming. The cave is stunning and so unique. Atmosphere was lovely. We'll definitely be back again.

The Mount Edgcumbe was the venue for our walking group's Christmas Meal. Eleven of us sat down to an excellent meal with enough choices to satisfy everyone in the group. The staff were very friendly and the service was both efficient but unobtrusive, which all helped to make our meal a great success. We will definitely look to book again.

8 of us stayed Friday to Sunday for a wedding. From beginning to end the staff were wonderful, as was the food. Would thoroughly recommend. We will be back!

We just loved the quirkiness of this building and the style in which it was decorated really did match. The room was very comfortable and relaxing and we had a wonderful nights sleep. The staff were all lovely however there were several issues which really shouldn't occur in such a costly establishment. The tea/coffee station was not very well equipped unless you like a range of flavoured teas from around the world. I prefer a good old fashioned cup of tea of which there was only one tea bag. 2 cups provuded but only one saucer and only 2 sugars. Luckily I don't take sugar and my partner only 1 however there should always be enough not to worry about these things. Water left in the kettle and coffee machine is also not acceptable. A fair amount of dust on the TV, bed, window blinds, top of the bath etc. Otherwise, very clean. In the restaurant/bar the chips were overcooked on both of our meals however this appeared standard when looking at other meals. During breakfast, our cooked orders were taken however when delivered, one was completely wrong and the other, cold.

We had a perfect evening at Mount Edgcumbe on Saturday 9th April. I booked the private dining room upstairs for a party of eight. We were looked after primarily by Charlotte who is a first class waitress! The menu was interesting, the food was beautiful (visually and the taste) and served promptly but not in a rushed manner. We all felt very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble.

Thoroughly enjoyed our night away. This quirky boutique hotel was a great choice. Our bedroom was beautifully designed and spotlessly clean. We were in Room no.1. Customer servive was excellent. Staff were friendly, breakfast was delicious and nicely presented. Dinner downstairs in the pub that evening was very tasty too and again nicely presented. Would highly recommend

Our book group just had drinks and conversation and Magda looked after us splendidly. The overall environment is perfect for our meetings.

We had lunch in the marquee which was pleasant. The staff were excellent and Charlotte looked after us extremely well. The slightly disappointing part was the Sunday lunch itself. The meat and roast potatoes were not to a high enough standard and they were not enough vegetables. The sticky toffee pudding though was one of the best I've tasted.

As a couple we pop in on a regular basis and this week we arranged for another three couples to join us. The food, service and attention was excellent (as usual) and all the couples waxed lyrical about their experience, asking for us to do this once a month.It was a lunch so most of us opted for nibbles to start off followed by starters, followed by various coffees. A lovely lunch for all.

From the moment we were seated, our waitress Magda was exceptional, very attentive to detail, didn’t mind our banter despite 5 of us order various versions of the burger, drinks were regularly serviced, food was good from the sharing platter starter to the burger with chorizo to the honeycomb ice cream to finish, a really enjoyable evening with tables nicely spaced out in the heated marquee and great service from Magda

This is not a fussy, flourishy place - and all the better for that! Two half-size sharing platters (at the suggestion of the server ) made an excellent starter for four of us. The fish platter was especially good; whitebait, squid smoked salmon etc. All very tasty. Then beetroot risotto was really good and the burger was one of the best I have had. There was a good selection of wines on offer.Service was friendly and efficient. Initially we were placed in the marquee extension, but we were moved inside at our request. It was a good move as the inside is much more cosy and characterful. We'll be back.

Magda is an absolute asset to Mount Edgcumbe - polite, thoughtful and very friendly! We shall return and look forward to seeing Magda again :)

From the moment my travelling companion and I arrived at Mount Edgcumbe hotel we were made extremely welcome by the hotel’s brilliant young team. We couldn’t have wished for a better and more comfortable twin- bedded room.The quirky decor and attention to detail throughout was much appreciated. The breakfasts were generous and the lunch and dinner menus were particularly good leading to us eating in-house each night of our stay. We would thoroughly recommend the Edgecumbe Hotel, a great base for visiting the many delights of Kent and East Sussex.

What an excellent venue, restaurant and staff. I messaged the Mount Edgcombe to arrange a birthday dinner for 12 and was offered a private room on the Saturday night. The room was fantastic, comfy sofas with a log fire for pre meal drinks, dedicated waiting service all evening, and when we were ready a beautifully set table for our meal in an adjoining room. The food was ordered 48 hours in advance, 3 courses for 12 people, and was served expertly with a minimum of fuss, the food was wonderful without exception and the whole evening was made a special occasion by a really professional team and a lovely setting.

My second visit and as with the first, it was outstanding. The Mount Edgcumbe is tucked away in the rocks but still within very easy walking distance of the main town of Royal Tunbridge Wells I was met promptly and taken to my room which was absolutely spotless. The room was well furnished and comfortable. There was a great choice of coffees and teas and a nice touch was the biscuits (shortbread I think) The shower was great and again, the shower room absolutely spotless. I ate in the restaurant in the evening and there was an excellent choice on the menu. The service was outstanding and again in the morning when I had breakfast. The service was perfect both with the restaurant and the hotel All in all, a fabulous family run hotel and restaurant. With quality and service like this they cannot fail to succeed

We stayed here for 2 nights in early Feb 2022. It really is a lovely hotel. The rooms are well appointed with all facilities. The cleanliness is excellent - my only comment would be to clean the shower plugs (but then I am a little obsessed about dirty plugs!!). The breakfast were tasty. The first day we had a full English and the second fresh fruit with yoghurt. The staff are really friendly and are very willing to help.We will stay again.

Such a good experience today. They promptly answered my emails about bringing a dog and booked us in with a slightly flexible lunch slot. Dog water bowl was brought immediately without having to ask. Amazingly tasty vegan sharing board and plenty of it. Excellent, friendly service. A very enjoyable stop in the middle of our walk and a lovely location too.

Staff lovely and helpful; outside area well spaced and makes you feel comfortable in a Covid world, and the food and drink are wonderful. And if it’s still on the menu you should absolutely try the sour cherry and amaretto ice cream!!I’ve been coming here on and off for 30+ years it’s always been good but never better than it is now.

We visited this pub for lunch with another couple. Friendly welcome from the staff. You can eat in the pub or on a warm and covered terrace. Simple menu with traditional pub grub plus some new thinking. The food was delicious, hot and high quality. Thomas was a professional and entertaining waiter. Thank you

I’ve been here 6 times now, always amazing food, lovely staff, very enjoyable visits. 10000000% recommend. Only downfall is can’t run a tab if you’re in the snug/ cave. Even if you ask to leave a card behind the bar. This isn’t enough obviously to not visit again of course will be back many many more times. Just tricky when you’re ordering food to share as a group and drinks, and going to be there for quite a few hours. I understand the reason that they’ve had people up and leave without paying which is awful. But still think it should be either pay now/ leave a card. Let the customer have the option. Hopefully they will change this rule in the future to make it easier for customers visiting with friends! :)

Absolutely fabulous lunch in one of the private dining rooms. Everything was organised perfectly for our small festive celebration. The food was exceptional and the service discreet and super efficient. A hidden gem nestling in The Common and definitely streets ahead of the obvious corporate competition.

I have stayed in many hotels in Tunbridge wells and this was the first time at Mount EdgcumbeI have to say it is without doubt one of the best hotels in the area. Service was excellent from start to finish and the accomodation was fabulous. The room was impeccable, very tastefully decorated and everything was immaculate. Great Xmas feast and good well priced wines. Excellent choice of beers served with first class friendly efficient service. Lilly was particularly good and ensured our glasses remained topped up.

We requested the table we had when we celebrated the baby shower two years ago and they accommodated our request for the same table for the now born Sienna's birthday without even hesitation which meant alot to us and made it extra special. I have been attending this establishment for a number of years with friends for our monthly book club. Post Covid, the staff are notably unfriendly and clearly keen to empty the pub as early as possible. Despite being a small group of 50 year old women, they refused to let us have a tab - the reason being that we were sat near the door (we had, in advance, booked the cave area). Presumably they thought we would leave without paying? We were given “a couple of minutes” to finish our drinks that we had ordered a short time earlier (they admitted that they had forgotten to call last orders) at 11pm so we felt rushed to leave and overall unwelcome. No apology was made. Poor service and unwelcoming atmosphere despite lovely surroundings. No wonder the pub was empty so early!

I have been meaning to write a review of the Mount Edgcumbe for some time due to the many visits over the last three years. We have generally always visited as a family group of between four and nine people and had fantastic food, drinks and service on every occasion.Private dining has been available when we have had a large group, outside dining during Covid times and the cosy downstairs for everything else in between. Our group also includes a few different allergies which have been catered for without any fuss and with the usual great service and humour. Sunday lunch is always excellent with all the trimmings and optional extras if you're feeling up to the challenge.The evening menu has some great options as well but it's probably the fantastic service that keeps us coming back, such a wonderful team.If you haven't been then get booking.Will

Stayed at The Mount Edgcumbe for 1 night after suggestions from some friends. We stayed in room 3 which was lovely and cosy. The bed was super comfy and we loved the entire room (especially the coffee machine!) On arrival we were greeted and shown to our room by Emma who was excellent and really friendly. She made sure we were happy and answered any questions we had. Couldn't have asked for better service!We also visited the bar in the evening downstairs and shared a bottle of wine in the little cave seating area. The whole bar and restaurant area is super cosy and has a very homely vibe to it. You don't find many places with a cave in it that's for sure!The service from all the staff was great and we were also suggested some places to visit as we were planning on popping into the main high street area just down the hill before we left in the morning. We took a lovely walk through the Pantiles which was lovely too. Definitely going to be returning as there is so much to look at!Also we had the full english breakfast which was lovely. Can't fault the food at all. The entire stay and experience was perfect. Couldn't have asked for more. Super happy! Thank you to all the staff for such a wonderful stay, and to Emma for the 5 star service and a good laugh too :)

We had a lovely time, with some delicious food, great service and fab atmosphere. The waitresses were really helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was yummy, and loved the outside inside space allowing dogs to come in too.

Stayed for two nights at this hotel. Staff most welcoming and friendly. Lovely room with bath. Very clean and attritive décor. Lovely cover balcony with independent table heaters (not required). Restaurant food was excellent. Wonderful BreakfastJust 10 minute to town centre. Good shopping centre BUT very disappointed with the "Pantiles" DIRTY and RUN DOWN.Only down side was as it was a bar service only at table. So every time my wife and I had a drink( NO FOOD) a 12.5% charge was added to bill. OK I except it when in restaurant . To charge me 12.5% to bring a drink 3 meters is a bit EXTREME. Left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Booked here based on reviews and wondered if I would be disappointed. But v impressed by service and the quality of the food. I had watermelon salad then the lamb and booked were excellent.

Very good staff who spent time explaining the menu and proving a list of items containing garlic which one of our party cannot eat. The food was very nice and I recommend the salmon pate for a starter and the burger for a main. An upmarket pub with great service,

Great location for walks all around and stroll into town. Superb service over our 2 night stay, such a brilliant team of people, heads and shoulders above most other places I have stayed. Nothing was too much trouble. Moved cars round so we could park! (minor criticism re parking. Restaurant vv. Busy in the day so if you leave in the morning you may not get a space. Suggestion would be to have a couple of resident parking spaces only? Hotel tastefully decorated everywhere with lots of quirky bits to add interest. Room a bit on the small side with small shower room but spotless, very well appointed with everything you need including excellent mirror for makeup (!), coffee pods, loads of teas and hot choc etc. Really comfy bed, air con if needed, excellent sleep both nights. Fantastic breakfast selection, service and quality. Brilliant coffee. Your staff really are wonderful. 100%recommend. Thankyou!

We had a lovely night away break here last weekend. We live not far away but this was an ideal hotel right in the centre of TW that I didn’t even know about, before we went, as it is so well hidden in the Parkland. As a result it feels like you are in the countryside rather than a town. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and happy. The room was very nicely decorated and presented and we especially appreciated the air con on a very hot night. Unfortunately we were not able to book an evening meal as it was a Sunday and only nibbles and sharing plates are available after 5pm on Sundays. However, the hotel is perfectly located for easy access to the copious alternative bars and eateries in the Pantiles and rest of TW so this wasn’t a problem. Breakfast was generous and very tasty and cooked to order, though it did take a long time to be served - which helped build our hunger even more that was probably just as well!Overall this is a great hotel and will recommend to friends and family and will definitely return if we get the chance again in the future - thank you.

This hotel’s rooms have a boutique feel and are stylishly decorated and very comfortable. The hotel is a short walk from the lovely town centre. The characterful restaurant serves excellent food and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Great place to stay and eat.

I'm impressed with the service here and the food is good quality and fills me up. I have non alcoholic drinks and they are well priced. I don't feel like a second class diner just because I'm not knocking back wine etc.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for 3 nights. The room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel itself is well appointed and full of charm. Staff (especially Anna) were considerate and helpful throughout our stay. Dinner was excellent (although a surcharge for a sprinkling of Parmesan seemed excessive!) and breakfast was adequate. Definitely recommended.

Honestly one of the best meals and boutique B&B stays we've ever had, set in a gorgeous location really close to the Pantiles and main town but surrounded by woodland walks. The best of both for a weekend away in Kent! The big stuff - beautiful, historic, characterful, clean and welcoming from the minute we parked up, checked in and sat for early evening drinks. Amazing beds, powerful shower and all mod cons with attentive and friendly staff. The little stuff - very clever uniquely different decor with superb British made toiletries, including our own mint hand sanitiser that is a welcome difference from the generic alcohol rub most places are using. The food was simply excellent, with local produce where possible and great choices. We had the asparagus starter, with swordfish and could have eaten all the desserts! Great wine menu and staff know the menu really well so trust them for recommendations! Breakfast was also amazing, simply good quality and cooked well - especially the scrambled egg with parsley.Our friends recommended this place as they're local and it certainly didn't disappoint. We will absolutely be back soon (if we can get booked in to this rare jewel in the Royal Tunbridge Wells crown)!

Invited some friends to stay and dine at the Edgcumbe , so glad we did, they loved it as much as we do. Food, staff, and company all amazing! I feel another visit coming on Mr and Mrs Hunwick!Keep up the good work Team Edgcumbe!

Visited here for a late afternoon drink over half term when it was glorious outside, staff were friendly and large menu selection for drinks. Only down side was the outdoor area, it felt very closed off, despite the lovely weather the staff were putting the sides down and it felt quite stuffy. Would have been nice to enjoy the outdoors in the nice weather.

Had a really fantastic evening here with a friend. The food was delicious and the service was great. Special mention to our waitress Hattie - she was super friendly and professional! I highly recommend and we will be back!

I've had many burgers in my time and unfortunately, this is one I will remember for the wrong reasons. Tasteless, and dry was the burger and even the chunky chips, were just simply greasy and unenjoyable.

Had dinner at Mount Edgcumbe for my partner’s birthday. The food was great and the service was excellent. Magda looked after us throughout the evening and gave great recommendations on food and wine. Would recommend to book in advance as this place is quite popular and gets booked out pretty quickly.

We have visited Mount Edgcumbe a few times now, and on every occasion the food and service has been brilliant..This time we were in the outside area due to the Covid restrictions, and even on a cold day with the heaters on and the covering around the area, it was first class.. The staff and the management are a real credit to the place...When you couple that with the beautiful location, you have a wonderful place to spend an evening..

Highly recommend Mt. Edgecombe for Covid Safe - WARM outside dining - under the heaters in the covered area. The food was delicious and the service from our waitress Magda was exceptional, we received some excellent wine and menu recommendations. The Spring risotto was delicious and my friends loved the vegan platter. Great selection of small and large dishes, great for family or friends.

Have been here a couple of times since reopening and the marquee they have set up is fantastic with heaters and it doesn’t feel like it’s outside. The food and the staff are brilliant and I’m already booked to return again. The best pub in Tunbridge Wells in my own humble opinion!

Mt Edgecome is a good experience made better by Lilly who puts the hero in service. You absolute legend. It’s all all very nice.

Wonderful evening , food was delicious, loved the risotto & mussels. Portions very generous, heating was good & atmosphere perfect . Best of all was Lily , our fabulous waitress .
