Did not seem to be enough staff, although just opened. Was told coffee would be a while because of a problem with the "machine". Found out that this was not proper Barista made coffee, although the prices did not reflect that. Staff friendly enough, but was not impressed.

We haven’t been here for many years as the place had really gone down when we were last there. This time we only went because the Langham had a private function and was closed to non-residents. The - to us - new outside seating area of the Pavillion attracted our attention, so we decided to give it another try. It has really improved and the service is good again. There are apparently some worries about the lease so we hope that can be sorted out and the present management retained. We shall then return, maybe even when the Langham is open to non-residents again!

Called in two days ago, after a lovely stroll in the sunshine. We decided to purchase three cheese scones to take away. We've had these in the past and they've always been good. We stood at the counter behind one other customer and after they'd had their order taken the member of staff turned her back on us to chat to two other members of staff, no eye contact with us or a 'won't keep you a moment' comment. We ordered, paid and were asked to take a seat inside and they will be brought out to us. On returning home we discovered the scones were really stale, obviously not been baked that day, so very disappointed. At £7.90 we felt cheated. I decided, rather than write a bad review to email my complaint, however two days later no reply. The member of staff who served us definitely needs some training in customer service! Where this cafe is situated will get a lot of footfall during the next few months especially from holiday and day trippers, sadly we will not be returning as there are plenty of places that will be pleased to have our custom.

Great suntrap terrace when we visited. We had coffee and sandwiches. The coffee (Black Americans ok, but not great and the tall mugs on saucers not to our liking, what is wrong with cups. Sandwiches were a game of two halves - brilliant dish of salad on the side, but bread rather uninspiring - factory sliced bread - pity as we have some great bakers in Eastbourne. Cutlery complete with smears not appealing. Staff were nice and for that reason we may drop in again.

The food here is excellent. You get a large salad with the sandwiches. Good coffee, very helpful and friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble for them. Situated in pretty gardens next to the sea. They have comfy sofas to sit on. The only downside is that the chairs inside have an extremely small seat and are very uncomfortable to sit on. You can sit outside and enjoy the view on a sunny day which is very pleasant.

We have visited the pavilion several times recently and always had very good snacks and lunches. Their lunchtime menu is very reasonably priced and I have always enjoyed their food. Their jacket potatoes and toasted sandwiches are accompanied by a really good salad. I am a coeliac so need gluten free options and I love their gluten free cheese and onion toastie. They have several different fillings and the Brie and cranberry is delicious. They serve some of the best coffee along the seafront too. You can sit inside or outside and dogs are welcome too, as long as they are well behaved. They also serve cakes and alcoholic drinks. Very friendly and helpful staff and nothing is too much trouble.

Arrived and wasn’t too busy. Ordered 2 latte and two jacket potato’s, one with chilli and the other with tuna. The latte’s arrived after 15 minutes but the jacket potato’s took over half an hour to arrive. My jacket with the chilli was fridge cold right through the middle. I returned it and the staff were very fair on this so I opted for it to be warmed so I could finish it rather than a refund as rather hungry. Even when it came back out it was tepid as opposed to warm or hot but by then I was too hungry to care. The chilli arrived splashed all over the plate - in the trade a clean plate edge is a must. My wife was thoroughly disappointed with her meal, the jacket had obviously been microwaved but not turned over at some point so the bottom was solid. The tuna mayo was literally a tub of tuna dumped on with a tiny bit of mayo and was very dry. The location is brilliant but the service was very slow despite lots of staff on duty. The couple next to us pointed this out to staff and the poor couple 2 tables down didn’t receive their meal and were forgotten about. If the service is slow and muddled in the winter then god forbid anybody hoping for a meal in a timely Fashion in the busy summer months. My advice - try one of the other cafe’s on the seafront.

Visited a number of times over a 4 day period for coffee, cakes, lunch and an evening meal. The menu is limited but that makes it easier to choose. It seemed quite quiet most of the time we were there and so we were served at the counter promptly. The cakes were nice and fresh as were the sandwiches. Our hot meal was prepared quickly and came with colourful salads. Prices are very reasonable.

We had been strolling along the prom in Eastbourne and felt like a late afternoon cup of tea. We made our way to the chairs and table outside on the veranda and then ordered a pot of tea for 3 persons. Nothing extravagant but in line with most other customers at that time of day. Service was pleasant enough and we were grateful for the chance to take the weight off our feet, relax and, eventually use the decent restrooms before continuing on our little tour of East Sussex.

It’s slightly unfair for The Pavilion to be ranked on Tripadvisor as if it was part of Eastbourne’s increasingly excellent restaurant scene. It’s not. It’s a cafe with a bizarre museum attached. It does at first look like it should have Julie Walters playing an ancient waitress guiding people insolently from the cafe to the museum. In reality, though, it has very friendly and helpful staff who serve good fresh coffee, different teas, and even beer and wine. But you don’t come here for that (do you? Oh, you do? Sorry.) You come here for the lovely location. The terrace is sun-kissed, wind-sheltered and life-affirming. Get over yourself and stop for a cup of redbush.

The setting was scruffy and old-fashioned. Popped into the loo before leaving and really wish I hadn't. Two toilets, both beyond disgusting (I won't go into detail), no handwash, filthy sinks with broken taps. Actually made me feel quite queasy. My husband came out of the gents and before I'd said anything to him, he told me that it was grim in the gents. I said I'd mention it to the staff as we were leaving, and told one of the girls behind the counter, to which she replied 'oh yes, I know. We've had no cleaner for three days'. Gobsmacked. No apology. No offer to put it right. Nothing. Returned to chat to her colleague. Sorry, but this is an eatery. Hygiene is important and those toilets were just not acceptable. Will never return. Makes me wonder whether they should have closed down for the new year if they can't get anyone to clean up.

Friendly homely atmosphere with nice old fashioned sea-side feel. The real star was the free Summertown Camp Exhibition which runs from 16 March to 15 November 2015. Here in Eastbourne thousands of injured WW2 soldiers came for days or weeks or months to recuperate. Both equally fascinating and sobering. Not to be missed if you are at this end of the promenade. The subject of the exhibition apparently changes each year.

The Pavilion Cafeteria was lovely, and the food we enjoyed there was excellent value for money. The big pleasure for us was the opportunity to walk through the Summertown Rehabilitation Camp Exhibition, which is housed inside The Pavilion. Stories, pictures, military awards, artifacts and verbal recordings, all relating to the life and times of a most valued recovery and rehabilitation camp that helped so many 1st World War returnees. Much of the information is drawn from the diaries of a few staff and service personnel, but then built upon by dedicated historians for the area, so that the exhibition pays tribute to everyone involved, past and present, in a truly fitting way.

I had just visited the Redoubt Fortress which is right next door and decided to go into The Pavilion to view the Summerdown Camp Exhibition which is on in part of The Pavilion. The exhibition itself is well worth a visit. It doesn't cover a large area but is well laid out It commemorates a camp which treated 150,000 men wounded in World War 1. The reminiscences of staff who had been stationed there such as female army cooks was interesting as was reading about the masseuses who worked there. There was personal mementoes from former soldiers, a blue wounded soldier's uniform to try on as well as an uncomfortable looking bed! After spending some time perusing the exhibition I definitely needed some refreshment and went through to the Pavilion Cafe for coffee and cake. The service was quick and friendly and the coffee and cake both very welcome and very nice. There are seats and tables outside but as it was a bit of a windy day I decided to stay indoors. The cafe itself is situated on a quiet part of the seafront and it was well worth a visit especially as it had a pleasant tearoom feel to it.

We stopped here for a quick cuppa and a fruit scone with cream & jam. It was in a good location away from the busy end of the promenade and had outside seating. The scones were a little hard and dry, but they filled a hole, and both the latte and hot chocolate were a little disappointing as they lacked flavour, so I probably wouldn't rush back if im honest. Saying that, if you're after something basic and 'average' then you shouldn't be disappointed.

I am sure they do a lot more than tea & cake, but that is what we had when we popped in after a brisk walk along the prom, and very good it was too.

Here is a very nice, comfortable cafe in the old style, very near the pier but not in the main crowded area. Just enough away from the popular part of town but near enough to be a short stroll away. Good view of the pier. All kinds of nice snacks with a good service. When we were there, only yesterday, it had an Ancestors Exhibition with very intersting facts about people excavated in digs in the area from hundreds of years ago. A very good display with fascinating exhibits. Also the Pavilion is right next door to the old Redoubt fortress that was built to defend Eastbourne in the late 18th. century. That is worth a visit, too.

Ok let's get the 'staff bit' out of the way.family visit, trackers, cake, coffee, and tea. Couple of soft drinks. Young lass behind the counter appeared to be on her own. She was helpful, pleasant, efficient and friendly... 9/10 in anybody's book. Now the cafe is a little battered, the building works going on around it don't help, but it's basically clean,in a great position ,the garden is lovely, and its convenient. Now the negatives, one clean the cobwebs off the Windows, its off putting. Two, when the suns out for heaven's sake have an opening window! When the suns out its roasting inside, we had to sit at the back in October! Lastly, it's not great value for money, but it's worth a go. I will come back in summer to see what it's like when it's busy.

Morning coffee taken outside on the terrace was pleasant. Good for a light lunch or snack though probably not the greatest atmosphere if you sat inside. Don't expect a huge choice. The layout is a little strange though that's could be down to the exhibition. It does offer the Meet the Ancestors Exhibition which is perhaps a good diversion for bored children.

Looked for somewhere to have a cup of tea and came across this place which looked quite clean & well presented. I approached the counter area. There was a waitress obviously on her break, eating a snack & two girls behind the counter. I stood there and said excuse me twice. Both looked up & carried on washing up & cleaning. The one having her break just looked up as if to say. I can't help as I 'm on my break. I just said "great service; not" & left. It was a Sunday afternoon & not that busy. Very poor customer service & not impressed at all.

Popped in here for drinks and a light snack on a really hot day. It was lovely - spacious and airy. We tried the scones - cheese with a dish of excellent chutney, and fruit with clotted cream and a choice of jams. Both were very good, as were the tea and coffee. The service was polite and attentive. A lovely spot to chill before tackling the "Meet the Ancestors" exhibition.

The Eastbourne Ancestors exhibition here is so fascinating-and the Beachy Head Lady beautiful-as are the willow figures holding the burial artefacts-and the video projected figures standing just watching us certainly made us think !Afterwards we had delicious coffee and cakes in a nicely laid out space clean tidy and comfortable

Ok, it probably helped that it was a glorious sunny Sunday morning. We stopped for a morning coffee and toasted tea cake. The premises has been totally refurbished and now looks neat clean. It has an interesting small museum of sub-Roman and early Saxon finds entitled "Eastbourne Ancestors" at one end. The staff were friendly and helpful and they served light lunches and sandwiches as well as a variety of cakes and pastries. We sat on the large veranda looking out over the gardens and the sea. A great experience and we will be back.

Went here for the Sunday lunch carvery . Food was good value and plentiful if pretty basic, but that's what carvery food is all about. Everything very basic, cheap, but without the cheerful perhaps, although we visited on a dank cold Sunday in November so difficult to shine.

Its a 'good' rating but theres not a 'good' option on Tripadvisor so went with very good, Nice looking from the outside and inside is more conservatory style with bamboo seating and ceiling fans and glass windows nothing too fancy or grand, really nice on a sunny day sit outside or in, service was very good, and simple food, looks like the more older generation make use of this place, the food was good what we had and the beer cold, a relaxing place hidden away from the prom, they do a Sunday Carvery, very clean toilets too, theres a piano inside but no one was tinkling the ivories which would have added to some sort of atmos, but would use again a half decent place to sit and have a drink outside too

We went originally for coffee and cake but once inside decided not to eat and ordered just two lattes, however they come out in a cup and saucer and was more like dish water, no coffee flavour at all. The surroundings are nothing special and lots of fake flowers around and not that clean looking. Would not revisit and wished we had walked further on to find somewhere else for coffee. Thought we would avoid the major coffee chains but sadly disappointed this time.

I've been here twice whilst visiting Eastbourne. First time about 2 years ago and it was fine, nothing remarkable. The second time today. Maybe I caught them on an off-day today. The person who served me was nice but seemed exhausted/exasperated - almost as it it was the end of a very busy season rather than the start. I ordered a coffee and a slice of cake. Having checked my order with me twice, they (eventually) brought me a pot of tea and a different cake. I hadn't the heart to say they'd got it all wrong or send it back. The tea was not great and the cake was sickly sweet and perfumed like scented soap. At almost £6 (top end of price range for Eastbourne, about £4 or so in most other places) it wasn't value for money. I didn't bother complaining, I thought it would only add to their woes. Pity, because it's a lovely location with nice views of the sea from the terrace but, as I say, maybe they were having an off-day ..... (I've used the words 'person' and 'they' as I don't want to specify if the person was male or female)

I am amazed that this place hasn't been reviewed before. We've been here many times, over the years and it's always lovely. It's right on the sea front, set in a beautiful little gardens, between the main seafront road and the promenade. There is parking very close by - it's only a short walk from the car parking spaces on the seafront. You do have to pay to park in Eastbourne - thanks to the Conservative council who voted that one in.I think this place has changed hands as it was a bit different when we went inside - there used to be a piano and once we were lucky to have beautiful classical music played but now it's very quiet!Great news for dog owners - they allow dogs to sit outside on the beautiful terrace. This is quite a posh place, so I was surprised and very delighted! There are metal railings so your dog cannot escape into the gardens which the terrace overlooks - unless you've got a really small dog. They serve lunches and afternoon teas here and also cater for private functions. My husband had the Welsh rarebit, which he'd had before and loved. This time it had changed and there wasn't as much of the mixture on the toast and he didn't like the taste as much as before.I was luckier and chose a new item - brie and cranberry toastie. This came as four trianges which were very thickly filled. The taste was really superb. There was so much in it that the cranberry sauce kept falling out!I had a glass of rose wine with mine and that was lovely. My husband had a bottle of lager which he said was perfectly cold. They do cream teas and there were lots of cakes on display in a cabinet inside the main restaurant area. There is a toilet for the disabled - wheelchair friendly with rails by the loo. It was immaculately clean. If you want a some good food and you're by the seafront - this is most definitely the place to come. The view is perfect and on a sunny day you will be so happy to be here - I promise you!

Only drank in there a few times it’s ok has a pool table and the people are friendly and the barmaid with long blonde curly hair is spot on at her job, definately on the ball and remembers what you drink whoes next to be served and keeps a tidy bar. I think her name is Ali? Met a lovely Scottish lass in there she was so friendly and such fun, had a good evening . 😀
