Beachy Head in Eastbourne

This pub has amazing views, and the food tastes good. But waiting for starters for 50 minutes was really unacceptable and annoying.

Location is great and food was amazing, however unfortunately we had the truly baffling experience of a manager, Callum, telling bizzare lies instead of admitting he made a simple mistake. Long review incoming- hoping the owners will see so they can address this with the staff member. One of our party is coeliac, so when ordering with Callum at the bar we spent a good few minutes discussing allergens in the roast dinner she was ordering. He confirmed yorkshire pudding was the only item with gluten as an ingredient, and had my friend read and sign the waiver outlining allergen handling in their kitchen. We asked if the yorkshire pudding could be served on a seperate plate for another member of our party to eat- he explained this would not be possible due to cross contamination policies for meals flagged as allergens. This was not a problem, we ordered the roast along with three fish and chip meals. He asked if they had coeliac requirements aswell, we told him no. When our food was delivered, our waitress was suprised to be delivering only three fish and chips to a party of four. We advised we were still waiting on a gluten free roast. She went to check and upon return advised us her manager, Callum, told her it was never ordered. It's obvious he forgot to put it through, which is fine as mistakes happen. However what followed was the bizzare experience of him insiting to both his colleague, and us, that we never ordered it and he was not at fault. We explained to our waitress we definitely ordered it, and spoke with Callum at length about allergens when we did. He told her we definitely did not- putting her in an exceptionally awkward position as she could only pass on what he told her. She was very polite and professional, and arranged for the kitchen to rush the order for us. My friend went to speak to Callum, who point blank refused to acknowledge he had forgotten to put the order through. He told her 'your friend (me) only ordered the three fish and chips, I thought it was weird she didn't order for you'. We were quite literally together at the bar at point of ordering. At this point I went to speak to him. I told him i understand errors happen, however it was wildly innapropriate he was choosing to lie about us rather than simply apologise. He told me to my face he 'confirmed twice' we did not want it. I told him we both knew what wasn't the truth, and he clearly made a simply mistake- all he could say was 'I am sorry you feel that way' - it was like talking to a smug brick wall. Overall a lovely place with lovely servers, let down by an aloof manager who cannot accept he is capable of error. I feel very sorry for the staff working with him, and advise any patrons to steer clear of him when dining there. To clarify, a simple 'sorry' was all that was ever needed.

Such bad service! The waitress has no idea what is going on in this place. Half of the restaurant is empty, but they refused to seat us. They don’t even do takeaway (and we weren’t asking for anything complicated — just some chips). We are very disappointed.

We arrived early evening, ordered food and waited for around 40minutes, no food and we had watched people arrive after us eat, and leave, I asked at the bar for an update and magically the waitress came out from the kitchen with our food. Unfortunately it was cold and must have been sitting for a while getting cold. We pointed this out and was offered for the food to be cooked again and was told it would take ten minutes. 25 minutes passed still no food or anyone explaining where it was so we had to get a refund unfortunately. Not great service can’t tell you what the food was like as the only food we got served was cold. Won’t be returning, ruined our evening went home and cooked. Cheers

This is a great place to finish after completing the Seven Sisters walk. Book ahead if you want to eat as they're always busy! Plenty of outdoor seating if you can't get a table for a drink.

The meal was good however, it took one hour to serve a burger when another burger was served at the start. 3/4 items came an hour later. The most important recommendation is to educate the staff who were rude and turned their back on us when we were giving a feedback (dark haired female server). You should train your staff how to talk to customers, there is a very poor communication. Just because we are not locals does it mean anything. The food is good however.

Went on Sunday, pub wasn't even completely full but service was non existent. Can't comment on the food because we never received it. After 30 minutes waiting we asked for food update, told it's coming in 5 minutes. Food never arrived, after 1 hour waiting we left the place. Awful service that is completely switched off from the customers, especially because we had a child with us.

9 people booked for dinner on our special day as Easter celebration with friends came to visit from abroad. Rude welcome at the entrance where our booking has been questioned without a proper check. Food served with long delays caused by miscommunication on the local rules on serving. Food quality low: all from frozen. Far from a memorable experience.

After walking 10 miles on seven sisters trail we were beyond excited to have this lovely pub right off the trail! They were tremendously kind. Good food and drinks in beautiful setting with a view. Lilly was lovely

We arrived in the late afternoon after a long walk from Birling Gap, and it was absolutely worth the visit. The food and the view were both amazing. We had NG Bar Chorizo, Camembert, Bacon Chop, Hunter Chicken Schnitzel, and Fish & Chips—all delicious. The passion fruit cooler was fantastic too. Loved everything and highly recommend it!

Great atmosphere. Good selection of drinks. Staff were very pleasant and good service. But the food was absolutely terrible. Beef was like shoe leather. Vegetables were cold and hard, but the desert saved the day. Great views, too.

Firstly let me say the staff were lovely & helpful. The food not so, dried out fish & chips (mushy peas, nuked yo beyond recognition), pork belly fatty (not cooked). Long wait for service.

Jan was our waitress and she was absolutely lovely. Food was very good and some lovely New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc went down a treat I would definitely recommend coming here.

Good pub food with lovely friendly atmosphere and staff

After a long hike, this pub seemed like the perfect place to unwind with some food and a drink. The space itself is huge and impressive, and at first glance, the menu looked sophisticated and promising. Coming from London—specifically Hackney, where fresh, high-quality pub food is the norm—I realise what I am about to say may be a tad too harsh. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to anywhere near my expectations. We ordered the arancini, soup of the day, prawn cocktail, and camembert. While the presentation was good, the taste was disappointing. The soup resembled Heinz, the arancini tasted like something from Lidl hastily heated in an oven, and even the avocado in the prawn cocktail seemed like it had been frozen and defrosted. The worst part, however, was that my friend, who had the prawn cocktail, suffered severe food poisoning symptoms afterward. To make matters worse, she saw a staff member drinking from a customer’s unfinished pint—something we considered reporting but ultimately didn’t, as we were both too exhausted to deal with the hassle. Overall, while the venue itself is lovely, the food quality and hygiene standards were seriously lacking. I have never had food this bad anywhere in the UK before. I wouldn’t return. My recommendation will be shorten the menu and deliver what is actually good rather than have ambitions you cannot achieve and make others suffer in the process.

Used to be a proper pub, but turned to be very overpretensously silly place, serving very average food. Very disappointing, avoid and seek other places

I ended up at the Beachy Head after a long day of hiking. I was trying to get back to my Inn in East Dean and the hostees was so kind and helped me order a Taxi. Unfortunately I didn't have time to stay for a drink but the restaurant looked lovely and had great views. Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality and service! My next time in Eastbourne I will be sure to make a proper visit :)

Food was lovely, can’t fault it, Jan was lovely, each dish did also come out slightly wrong either not served at same time and a 10 minute interval so one was hot and one was cold or if we asked for it not to have something and something different for example no custard and icecream instead, given, not the end of the world but worth noting. But would come again

The perfect place to eat after a nice walk along the beach seeing the cliffs. Great atmosphere and stunning views. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable. Our waiter was Jan and she was very polite and accommodating. Highly recommend.
