What a wonderful way to spend my daughters 1st birthday. It was warming, friendly and welcoming. The staff are attentive, and all a joy to speak too. Without asking they brought out a candle in a cupcake for my daughter with our afternoon tea. Everything was scrumptious! We were able to put a birthday banner up by our table and celebrate with ease. Although the atmosphere was busy, it was very pleasant. we were taken care of the whole way through our time spent at the parlour tea room. I would highly recommend and would defiently visit again. The decor in the parlour tea room is classic, beautiful and well kept. The perfect place for our occasion. Thank you all for a lovely afternoon.

Always a lovely place to go for lunch or a little treat! Very family friendly, with highchairs but leave pushchairs in the car as there isn’t room for them indoors due to the cosy nature of the tearoom. The decor is fabulous and outdoor benches are available. Toilets and baby change are elsewhere on site. The food is perfection and the service is always good. Staff are always very friendly and we always look forward to visiting.

Wow! Last weekend nine of us attended a baby shower at the tearoom. We prebooked and we all ordered afternoon tea. From the beginning to the end of the visit was amazing. We were welcomed by a very friendly waitress who took our order. Two of the party were Coeliac (gluten free) and they had put aside slices of cake for us incase we wanted it. The sandwiches were excellent especially the gluten free. They can be dry and tasteless but these were full of filling and perfect. The gluten free scones were the best you could get. They didn't crumble and you were able to spread jam and cream easily. The carrot cake was lovely too. Moist, tasty and didn't crumble. The other guests enjoyed their afternoon teas as well. A huge variety of sandwiches and cakes. Friendly staff throughout. We weren't rushed at all. We were able to sit back and relax. Even at the end we were all paying separately and one of us cleared the payment. The waitress excepted the apology and sorted it for us. One of the reviews mentioned that this place was as good as places in London. I honestly have to agree. Perfect from beginning to the end. We will all be returning in the future.

We enjoy eating here but really feel that the prices have started to get a bit silly. I understand that prices have gone up quite considerably but a childrens cheese sandwich, some crisps, a small fruit bowl (one type of fruit) and a cup cake (which I noted I’d not the large one that it used to be) is now £9. It does come with squash but clearly that’s mainly water .,. An adults sandwich and crisps is also £9 then a drink on top. Sadly we wouldn’t come for lunch in a bigger group now (my parents refuse to pay the prices) based on the price. However I do enjoy the food here so the two of us would likely return on our own

So appalled by the customer service we received from the manager here this weekend. My friends travelled 16 miles to visit me here for my birthday under my recommendation only to be treated with rudeness and disrespect. I phoned ahead in the morning and booked a table. We had an hour booking. This was totally understood and was told that we could sit outside afterwards with no time limit if we wanted to stay after the hour. So, we arrived a few minutes early, our table wasn't ready yet. It was finally ready 10mins after our allotted time. Our order wasn't taken for another 15 more mins then our drinks and food arrived 20 mins later. This left us with less than 10 mins of our hour slot. The manager abruptly came to tell us this just after our drinks and food arrived. When we politely queried this with her, we were then told it took so long because they had to "deep clean the kitchen" because one of us in our party had a nut allergy. It's almost beggars belief that this isn't already the case?! So essentially the manager blamed my friend for why the service and the food took so long! When we tried to reason with the manager, she spoke over us and was clearly very angry. We had to ask her to please let us speak! We agreed to move outside (as we did understand we only had an hour) but we were swiftly told as soon as we sat down again that we had to pay our bill as the table was also booked. My poor friend couldn't even finish her scone! As a small business I'm sure they can't afford to lose customers. Especially in the current cost of living crisis. We did (begrudgingly from the manager) receive a 10% discount off our bill but our entire experience was ruined by the poor attitude and customer service of the manager. Will not be returning or recommending sadly, as we enjoyed the food (when we were able to eat it!) and venue and the rest of the staff were lovely.

V disappointed with the parlour rooms. Was one of our favourite places and visited often. A gift voucher had been given to a couple of close family members as a xmas present. Sadly one of our intended party of four passed away a few weeks ago. Parlour rooms refused to extend the ‘6month period’ on the gift voucher as it had felt difficult to visit so soon in the last few weeks without the person the voucher was intended. However Today we had to go (only three of us of the original four) not the same but had to use the another voucher before that one ran out as well..!! Poor customer service in my view. Won’t be going back there anytime soon sorry. Took the money for the gift voucher but not able to use in the time period and no empathy with the situation we found ourselves in.

I visit the parlour tearooms often when I am passing for work or with friends and can’t recommend enough! I think the quality of food here is of a very high standard and very reasonable price. I’ve also attend some of the events that they hold at the tearoom which are lovely (mediumship nights, afternoon tea by candle light, galentines afternoon tea and wreath making). The staff at the tearoom are always so welcoming and friendly. I’m just gutted I don’t have any photos of the afternoon teas to upload as these are presented gorgeously!

Staff kindly moved our booking forward, however, we weren’t very impressed with the quality of food. I had ham which appeared to the most basic supermarket ham you could buy - inedible gristle in places. Panini was underwhelming, however the crisps were nice. Very small with cramped tables and a little chaotic as main doorway and kitchen doors are right next to each other so people constantly in other people’s way. We didn’t bother with desert.

There is an option to have a sandwich, cake and tea on one tray which makes it excellent value for money. Though I do recommend the triple layer sandwich :-) Lovely to see it busy even on a really rainy afternoon .We were asked to sanitise our hands as we entered and staff all wore masks. Tucked away in a small center full of quaint shops, far away from the Town Centre, I never knew about the tearoom for years. I discovered it on a random google search and looked up reviews. I'm glad I wasn't deterred by a couple of negative reviews and decided to go with my sisters and nieces. We had a jolly good time. The scones were freshly made and delicious, with a generous helping of clotted cream and jam. They had a great selection of fresh, homemade cakes for us to choose from. The room was warm and cozy, quaint and quirky, with little quotes on all the walls. The ladies who served us were kind and attentive, we didn't wait for long before our order was served. My niece had the Children's High Tea and she loved it - great option for kids as it was good value for money. She also had hot chocolate topped with cream and a generous helping of marshmallows - made her day! We had a toddler with us too and she enjoyed her cheese sandwiches. My sister who's pretty picky loved it and gave them a high score. She's vegan and was able to get vegan sandwiches and a vegan fruitcake. There were two celebrations going on while we were there - a birthday and bridal shower - and this added a festive vibe, albeit noisy but we didn't mind.If you're really looking for coffee though, this is not their strong suit but they have a pretty decent tea selection. All in all, we discovered a great new tearoom and we'll surely be going back.

Say it as it is. That is my motto, do not fudge the review. The best things about this place is the welcome, the ambiance and the price. The sandwiches are very fine together with the paninis. This is a tearoom that all ladies dream about, everything but everything does not match but this only adds to the overall experience. Too many possitive things to say about The Parlour so I will concentrate on the small amount of negatives. Tea too weak, no fruit cake. All else FAB.

What a lovely looking tearoom covered with querky, amusing quotes on the walls. We received a friendly welcome and the tearoom was buzzing and busy. Our waitress was lovely and politely asked if it was ok to clean down our plastic tablecloth. Once done tthe tablecloth was still 'sticky'. Our waitress then gave us each a napkin and knife but unfortunately handed the knifes to us with her fingers on the cutting part of the knife. Having just used a chemical spray to clean tables and not cleaned her hands we found this unacceptable. We ordered various teas with scones with jam, cream and fresh strawberries. They forgot our strawberries. One of our teapots and a milk jug had a chip on their spout - totally unhygienic - I asked for a second milk jug which they were happy to provide. The scones were delicious and the cakes looked awesome. Unfortunately attention to detail and hygiene is lacking. Think I probably visit here again. :-(

Unfortunately there were no tables inside so you had to book, we just sat outside which was OK for us but where they are placed makes it feel like your in a car park. There was only a latte and filter coffee as an option. We ordered two lattes a chicken wrap and a slice of cake. It came to £15.85! To our dismay the lattes were small and we were sure they were the kind you make instantly from a sachet. Not very nice. The wrap was also small and came with a small portion of crisps and a few leaves as salad. Really disappointed as I had hoped for more for the price. Unfortunately wouldn't go back or recommend.

We had a gift of Tea with a Friend from the family. I was told we should book. We arrived on time but we picked a bad day. With a hen party in residence it was clear peace and quiet were going to be non existent. A very small internal space increased by outdoor tables. Our tea consisted of 2 minuscule warm scones, jam and clotted cream, a piece of our choice of cake and tea. The scones, though nice, were tiny. By 3pm the choice of cake was sparse. The noise inside such a small space was uncomfortable. You struggled to have a conversation. And at £17.00 we felt it overpriced for what we had. I had heard good things but the prices were astronomical for sandwiches or ploughmans. Bitty decor did not help. We were happy to leave as soon as our bite size cakes had been eaten.

Having visited The Parlour Tea Room recently with my children I have to say I was massively disappointed. After being seated at our table I then waited a considerable amount of time to place my order whilst watching the staff talk, at which point I then wanted to leave given everything I seemed to touch felt sticky and not as clean as I would like. However given I had hungry children with me I decided to stay in the hope the experience would improve but unfortunately not. The cutlery did not look clean (thankfully we didn’t have to use it given what we had ordered) and the cups/glasses in which the drinks came in also looked ‘grubby’. After we had finished our lunch the children then wanted a cake, there was ‘nothing’ that would have appealed to a child, I then paid my bill and made my way to the nearest supermarket to buy them the cake they were very much looking forward to. Such a shame as this could be much better.

Today I visited the parlour tea room with my residents from Basingfield residential home. we booked in advance the staff were very accommodating and organised an area for us. Some of our residents are wheel chair users so it was nice to know they would be comfortable with suitable access.

We booked for 7 of us to have afternoon tea on Mother’s Day. The staff were very friendly during booking over the phone and were lovely and friendly on arrival. The tea was absolutely delicious and we were all very full afterwards! Would definitely recommend! Amazing fresh cakes, sandwiches and scones. Lots of different varieties of tea on offer too! Will definitely be returning!!

Just Brilliant!!!! I have visited the Parlour Tea room a few times before for afternoon tea with friends. I recently attended their medium tea and cake party evening with my mum and sister. It was such a well organised event and all staff and the owners were extremely welcoming and kind. We even had a good old chin wag with the owner after the event had finished! A fantastic place and will look forward to my next visit, Thanks.

Visited for lunch and was very disappointed. This used to be a fab place but definitely gone downhill. It was busty, mainly big parties with lots of children and very noisy. The tablecloth felt tacky and the place generally felt a bit grimy. The cake I had was dry and tasteless, not very nice at all, standards have most definitely slipped here and it’s a great shame but under different ownership these days.

Visited with my young son for mother/son time. We were made very welcome and the children’s high tea is brilliant. My son ate the whole lot. My farmers tea was excellent. Lovely choice of sandwiches and delicious handmade cakes. Would definitely recommend to others and will be returning again soon.

My husband & I enjoyed a leisurely lunch here recently on a visit (from up North in Lancashire) to my niece & family. Very impressed - pretty décor, good service and nice food. I had the soup of the day and a Panini, both of which were very enjoyable and well presented. It must be lovely to have one of their Afternoon Teas here as it is the perfect setting.

Really well worth a visit and I advise that you book in advance. We visited on a miserable rainy day and chanced a visit without booking. We were really lucky and were allocated a table as long as we left in time for the reservation. We were not disappointed and I do recommend this jewel in Basingstoke - a bit like Betty's Tearooms on Harrogate, but smaller.

Pleasant staff and greeting. Menu and prices reasonable. Atmosphere a little lacking. Service initially good, tea and delicious panini served quickly, but then everything stopped! Staff did not look around to see if anyone needed anything else, did not clear empty plates until we had to attract their attention when wanting more tea as first pot now cold! I was going to have a piece of cake but it was never offered and the lack of interest by the staff made me lose interest. On a positive note - better for the diet I guess! Overall a bit disappointing. I probably won't go again - there are better tea shops around.

I have to say it was wry pleasant from start to finish! From the booking, to allowing us to decorate, accommodating to dietary requirements and even a last minute mini person who was given a delicious fruit bowl! The atmosphere was very relaxed, the food was delicious and brilliant value for money - we couldn't finish the cake from afternoon tea and we could even take it home. I would highly recommend and will most definitely be returning for lunch in the future. Thank you ladies x

I have been coming here for some time and it has seriously improved since the new management took over - much nicer service now. My only complaint would be that the menu is limited and I know it by heart. There is only a tiny kitchen so it must be difficult to provide a big variety. I also think the roll that comes with the ploughmans could be nicer - maybe a wholegrain roll; otherwise this is a seriously good lunch! Delicious!

On the recommendation of a friend we called in for a sandwich, but we chose the Ploughman's Lunch having seen it as we passed through the café. The ploughman's was delicious - large slice of cheese, salad (tomato, lettuce, cucumber) silver-skin onions, pickle, bread roll, plenty of butter. The café is very pleasantly decorated, very clean and welcoming. My only concerns were how close the tables were, we could hear other people's conversations . Secondly I would only return for a ploughman's or sandwiches because they do not serve a sugar free option for diabetics - a huge problem - people cater for vegetarians, gluten free etc., but not diabetics.

Popped in for a takeaway coffee and toasted sandwich (roasted vegetables) on a Saturday lubchtime. The coffee was far too hot to drink or even take a sip of without scorching your mouth, so I started on the sandwich. It was floppy and uninspiring and if I was still in the vicinity I would have taken it back. The coffee, once it had cooled a bit, had bits floating around all in it and wasn't drinkable. Total waste of time and money. Would not recommend this place and will never return there myself.

A spur of the moment visit as my five year old was ' starving Mummy' .. We were met with smiles and given a table for two despite the tearoom being busy. We weren't going to be long and in that time had a beautifully freshly prepared lunch of a cheese and ham toasty for the boy and I had a lovely chicken and mayo sandwich with a pot of tea. We couldn't resist the cake and the chocolate cake was the best we've had! So rich and special! I also had the lemon and ginger slice and would have it again. Totally delicious. The atmosphere was happy and as cheerful as the decor. Can't wait to go again!

i was a regular at the tea rooms, but since it changed hands, its not as nice to visit.. the food is still excellent, but the venue is now a bit of a characterless place to go. Not much of the vintage charm it had before, there used to be lovely old china on display, flowers, and it had a really homely feel about it. but now, although newly decorated, it seems cold, uninviting and just an empty room with a few tables and chairs in it.. disappointed... i hope they bring back its nik naks and charm, because as it is, it is just not got a vintage feeling

I have been regular visitor since the Parlour Tearoom opened but my visit this week was a real let down. My friend and I arrived just before midday on Saturday hoping for pot of tea and freshly made cake. Instead we were greeted with a beautifully redecorated tearoom with empty tables laid out for a Mother's Day event but no space inside for people who had no booking. We were able to sit outside as it was a lovely day but we had to make do with paper take away cups and no choice other than Victoria sponge, which didn't taste particularly fresh. The new owner appears lovely but I think she needs to consider the regular customer's experience; how much trouble would it have been to serve tea in the usual China cups? Or to have a couple of cake choices? It didn't feel welcoming or good value this time round but we have had some delicious teas here in the past so we will sample it again in the not too distant future. I really hope it is successful for the new owners; Basingstoke really needs its friendly independent coffee shops and tearooms. Good luck.
