Really great experience from start to finish. The welcome was warm, the service was very friendly, smooth and not fussy (as it should be) and the food was very, very good!

The second time we stayed in Hayfield and it was purposefully because of The Pack Horse. Fantastic gastro pub, brilliant food and drink and wonderfully friendly staff.

Exquisite food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly service.

Decided on a cold January afternoon to try out this well reviewed pub. But sadly after standing at the bar for 5 minutes and being ignored by staff, while they had a lovely conversation with what I think was a wine sales person, we made the decision that our lunch was clearly not going to be had here. There were only 4 other customers in the building, so not the busiest of times either. In the hospitality business, customers' money is vital, alongside good reviews. Please inform your staff that ensuring customers are served is important. Sorry, it is unlikely that we will be back.

We went with a group of 15 for a late Christmas celebration. The staff were excellent and organised. The food was delicious. We will definitely be visiting again.

Had a lovely meal in a pretty the High Peaks village of Hayfield.

An absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was impeccable with fantastic flavours built delicately and served in good portions. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant was relaxed without being slapdash, which was helped by the service being on point but not pushy. I’d recommend this to anyone even remotely in the area, a true gem. I can’t wait to visit again.

We dined her for Sunday lunch and we left feeling thoroughly satisfied. Two of us had the lamb, three of us had the Beef….. all of us were extremely pleased with the meal. The wine was also delicious, and the service was top notch too.

We decided to have a Sunday lunch at the Hayfield when we went to Buxton for a Victorian Ball and visited a friend who lives in Stockport. She suggested a few pubs and we decided to go to the Hayfield. It is a very dog friendly pub so my friend was able to take her adorable dog Daisy with us. We had a delicious Sunday Roast and a lovely dessert. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the pub itself had a very friendly atmosphere.

Get yourselves here immediately! Came here to celebrate a birthday and it's now #1 on my list of favourite dining experiences. It's a really cosy, friendly and atmospheric pub. The staff were attentive and just genuinely really lovely. The food was exceptional and everything blew our minds. Really good list of booze too - we fully dipped our bread with everything, but it doesn't have to be a dear do. We honestly cannot wait to return, we've already told our friends and family!!

Called in after Kinder Scout Hike. Lovely place, busy and cosy. Didn't get food, just relaxed with a pint. Fire was lit, heating was on.

Food is lovely, very reasonable pricing and great service ! Certainly a little gem. We have the Fish & Fizz deal, two mains and a bottle of wine for just over £30. Will be back next time we are passing through. One of our party was gluten free and was well catered for.

While I commend your team's initial professionalism and understanding when we were running late, I must express my grave concern and disappointment with the way a severe allergic reaction was handled during our dinner. To provide context, I failed to disclose my severe nut allergy during the booking process, an oversight for which I take full responsibility. However, I was alarmed that neither our server nor the kitchen staff inquired about allergies when we placed our order, a standard practice that could have averted the unfortunate events that followed. I ordered the Stone Bass fillet, and upon taking the first bite, I immediately sensed an allergic reaction—my ears itching and throat tightening. Concerned, my boyfriend asked the server to confirm if the dish contained nuts. After a brief check, the server assured us that there were no nuts in the dish, and gave a thumbs up afterwards. Trusting this information, I continued to eat, only for my reaction to intensify. In the midst of my escalating allergic response, we expressed our urgent need to leave and requested the bill. Shockingly, another server insisted on the mandatory 2-course minimum for the set menu, despite our plea that I was unwell. This felt like an inappropriate and callous insistence on a policy rather than a genuine concern for our well-being. I want to emphasize that our complaint is not entirely motivated by financial concerns; we understand and respect restaurant policies. However, it would have been appreciated if we could have just paid for what we ordered. The lack of sensitivity and understanding during a medical emergency is deeply troubling.We both work in healthcare and we would expect a higher level of care and compassion from your establishment. The situation was aggravated by the absence of an allergen sheet, a standard feature in reputable establishments. Instead, the server texted the list of ingredients, which did little to alleviate our concerns and added an unusual element to the already tense situation. I sincerely hope you take this feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to reevaluate your team's approach to customer care, particularly in instances of allergies. Imagine if this were a life-threatening situation involving your child, I would trust you would agree that compassion should always take precedence over policy. I urge you to consider implementing better training for your staff regarding allergy protocols and emergency situations. Your restaurant's reputation is at stake, and I believe a commitment to improvement will not only salvage customer trust but also contribute to a safer dining environment for all patrons. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I sincerely hope you take the necessary steps to prevent such distressing incidents in the future.

Wow!! Absolutely amazing food, excellent service! Dog friendly, get booked in!!

Went for a celebratory meal with our 10yo daughter. They wrote her a card which was signed by the staff which made her feel special. Food and service was amazing. Can't wait to go back!

Currently staying in the area, so booked in advance and I cannot explain how glad I am, the food and service were literally anazing. Such a cosy pub with a real family feel. We feel the staff were very attentive and welcoming. They selected an excellent wine to go perfectly with our meal. The food was delicious and seasonal. The pie was a highlight for me and my husband loved the Manchester Egg. We would definitely return.

Visited for the first time on Friday night, an exceptionally friendly welcome. The staff and locals are great, a proper warm local welcome. But the real highlight is the good, wow, it's in a different league, local produce cooked to the highest levels. I will be returning, and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We couldn't reserve a table online until 8.30pm which was OK, however we did feel abit rushed as obviously the last table.

This restaurant is a must if in the area and worth the journey if not. we eat out in nice places regularly so know when a place is really doing a good job. Service, hospitality, drinks all fabulous and the food has the wow factor you want. lots of gastro pubs claim high standards but this place has it in spades. very very pleased!!. our bill was £230 for x2 including tip and great value for money. a £300 dinner easily in town

Lovely, friendly, and cosy place with a good atmosphere and absolutely lovely staff. Extensive menu and what sounds like a mouthwatering vegan option, which I will definitely try next time. Oat milk provided so i could enjoy a latte, dog friendly too!Well worth a visit.

Excellent meal. Cooked to perfection. Very tasty. Service great. Only slight moan is that some dishes came without vegetables so sides had to be added on and the cabbage wasn't hot enough. Otherwise, would highly recommend.

Lovely pub and worthy of its place on the top gatropubs in the UK. Special shout out to Lola the dog who greets all guests and the person who selected the music. I loved the early 2000s indie music that played the whole time we were there.

Beer selection could have been more varied. Wines overpriced. If the server was a little less apathetic and slow it would make it easier to stomach the prices.

This was our first trip to The Pack Horse. Hopefully won't be our last, as it was amazing! We got a very warm welcome from Lola, the pub dog, but it quickly became apparent that Lola was trying to simply soften us up so we'd get her treats! Very impressed with her cheekiness. All the staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere in the pub was very relaxed. The obvious reason for a visit to The Pack Horse is for the food. Which was absolutely beautiful. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection, and there are a very good range of options, unless you're vegan, that is, as vegetarian was the only non-meat option on our visit. Definitely worth a visit though. Excellent cooking in a lovely setting.

Exceptional food, nice location, lovely internal decor and layout, very friendly welcoming staff. Expect to pay a little more, but truly restaurant quality food and not your average pub grub. A gem which went years undiscovered because I always judged it from its looks on the outside until I saw online that it's michelin star. Now one of our favourite places. Book in advance as it gets very busy!

Just had the best experience at the Pack Horse... professional whilst also nice and relaxed a difficult combination to pull off, but done so with ease. The food is fantastic but as are the front of house staff it is definitely a team effort that pulls off a fabulous dining experience. Thank you team Pack Horse you've created a memory for life.

Visited today whilst having a drive out. Stopped off in Hayfield and ended up staying for a couple of hours. The sun was shining so we got a table outside and just sat watching the world go by. My partner had four Prahva lagers and I had a couple of appetisers. We didn’t eat as nothing took our fancy but lots of locals and visitors were heading for the restaurant, inside seating area. Never seen so many dogs at a pub, they were enjoying their outing too. Lovely afternoon in a beautiful county setting.

Our local.f Haven't tried food yet but it looks amazing. Great service lovely beer.

Excellent food & well worth the price

One of the best meals we've had in a long time. Absolutely delicious food, with clearly very high quality ingredients! The high peak lamb and salted caramel tart were particularly fantastic, though honestly everything we both had in all 3 courses and all additional amuse bouche pieces was sensational. 100% will come back again!

Great food but very expensive for its location

Very disappointed with this visit on their curry and quiz night. The portions were small (small shallow bowl of curry and between 4 people, the platter was 4 small flatbreads, a handful of cut potatoes, 4 bite-sized onion bhajis, a small ramekin of chickpea type dip and raita), they don't offer rice(!!) and it's £20 pp. My cocktail took 20 minutes to be made as I think they made it wrong the first time as I could see them at the bar but didn't offer any apologies or even acknowledge that it took a while. They don't offer desserts that night which would have helped with the hunger and to complete the meal. Considering it's not full table service for this night, the service seemed to be worse than a proper service. The table hadn't been cleaned when we sat down and I had to ask someone. It's not good enough and not value for money.

Happy with food and great service especially from Chris. We have had 4 dinners in a row and all testy, especially Manchester Egg, Sunday roast 😋, mackerel starter and crab one.

Had no idea this is one of Britains top gastro pubs with Michelin accreditation. Only stopped for beer with Paulicarus. Had a lovely pint of Theakstones best. 4 real ales to try. Inside is a mix of eating areas with some space for drinkers. Good sized front roadside patio seating. Luckily the July sun burst through the storm clouds: even letting the local cricket game start on a day of dire weather forecasts. Pub set in the lovely village. Car park to side plus on street parking. Another great find well worth a visit. Must come back for food.

If you want great food, wine and service in a pub then this is the place for you. No wonder it keeps winning awards and fully deserved.

The chef advertises his establishment (on Tripadvisor) under ‘Dietary Options’ as ‘Vegetarian friendly’ with ‘Vegan options’. But the reality is non meat eaters are offered 1 boring (side) dish and then are subject to extreme hostility (on Tripadvisor and to a lesser extent here below) about ‘entitlement’ and being a ‘cult’. Poor food choices and Unacceptable behaviour.

Modern pub/restaurant . In the Michelin pub guide. Not wheelchair friendly having steep steps to the front door. Pleasant place to have a drink or two. Pub quiz and curry night on a Wednesday. Curry £20 per head. The "hot" curry is not particularly hot for my taste. Child friendly. Outdoor seating in the sun. Average main meal £25.

Great service and great food. Can't pick fault

We had high expectations based on the google reviews and Michelin guide. The pub itself was lovely, the team hospitable - their care around dietary restrictions was very good, they even printed a specific gluten free menu for one of our party. Starters: Mixed reviews (there were six of us), half of us ordered the mackerel and thought it was excellent, the other half ordered something else and thought it was middle of the road. Unfortunately, that was the peak of the meal. Mains: Average all around. Desserts: Unimpressive. The meal did not live up to the hefty price point (£48/person not including drinks) and was disappointing because of that.

Cannot fault the food or the service. Amy served us and was very attentive and helpful. I will be returning as soon as possible. Have to thank all the staff as I have not had such good service for such a long time. Food was faultless. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Lovely, inventive cooking, impeccable service

We arrived just as food service was ending, however we had an order for a few snacks rushed through by a very helpful member of staff. If those snacks were a taster of the quality of food on offer then you're in for a treat. We would love to return one day.

Great food, the Manchester egg was probably the best I’ve ever had. Super friendly staff and dog friendly also.

Met up with some friends for a few drinks and ended up staying to have the Sunday lunch. It was so worth the money, we had the lamb and beef. The meat was cooked beautifully and every element on the plate was cooked to perfection. The staff were polite and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Nice little pub that errs away slightly from the old country pub look. It's nice and tidy looking and the food looks fabulous, though I have not eaten here yet. I sat outside on my visit on a nice sunny day and enjoyed a few pints. I was here in the late afternoon, so my rating is just on this visit. I would visit and as I have stated, eat here in the not so distant future and I will re visit my review then.

So disappointed... New potatoes and pesto for main course as sole offer for vegan. My parents travelled from Scotland to visit, they were excited to take me to the Pack Horse and called ahead at 1.30pm to book and say dietary requirements (my mum's gluten intolerant and I'm vegan). Having already scouted their menus as I know they change them regularly, I felt confident I'd receive a delicious vegan alternative. Sadly, I felt so embarrassed - I was presented with a separate menu, with a single choice of potato and pesto with some asparagus. As I wanted my parents to have a good time I said it was OK, though the waitress apologised as she could see my shock and disappointment. I really did feel like an unwelcome second-rate customer. For those still reading, we had a 3course meal, I only had one sad option for each: Starter - charred onion & romesco sauce, main as above, Dessert - poached rhubarb and vegan ice cream [chopped up, nothing else]. My parents, it must be said, apart from feeling bad for me, said their food was delicious, I should hope so to be recognised in athe Michelin Guide. The meal with a drink each to start, and bottle of wine, came to £200 [we split the bill]. I also took a taxi there and back which is unusual for me, so I could 'really enjoy the special evening'. I have been holding onto this review for two days as I was so angry I wanted to calm down and reflect if I still wanted to post it. I'm still pretty shocked by what I experienced*. *Please note I have no intention of going back/receiving compensation of any kind. I'm writing this more as a warning to those vegans who'll need to brace themselves if family or friends book this place.

Me and my partner ventured out to the National walk and find this gem! The service was amazing and the best part was the dessert. We cheekily order another salted caramel dessert because it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet and don’t get me started on the lamb!!! 10/10!

Excellent. Went in on Friday night. This pub is on the Michelin recommended guide of pubs. The service was impeccable. A lovely Scottish gent who just loved his job… not over bearing, just very very pleasant. Knew his wines and knew the food. The ambience is very much local pub vibes however the food is certainly of a much higher standard and the balance they have is amazing. The menu is seasonal and this obviously lends itself well to the quality that is served. Cannot recommend it enough.

Enjoyed my evening here, service was very good. Went for the lamb kofte and it was tasty just wish you got more than two pieces for the price but the flavour was very good. Make sure you give Lola the pub dog a treat.

Poor vegetarian option, just carrots with overly acidic dressing and a small amount of goat curd. There were no other options for veggies for a main meal. The meat options looked good so if you eat meat it's a good place to go as the service was good.

Excellent setting in a lovely pub. Food was delicious but on the small side, especially when you consider the price. However it is highlighted as Michelin quality and that is true. Staff were very attentive and drink choices were vast. Would recommend

The food was out of this world. The skrei cod with Jerusalem artichoke purée was an inspired combination. I had to Google Skrei cod to discover how fortunate we were to find it on the menu.

Thankfully my friend who I went with insisted in that we visited here. I didn't do any research or check the menu. Wow wow wow. Totally amazed at the excellence of the full experience. Stunning and quaint inside, met with homely and warming service by everyone. To then be presented with beautiful and exemplary food really surpassed expectations. I'm still thinking about some of the flavours and quality of the food.
