Food was poor. Service was worse. Everything had to be asked for. Waited ages to receive anything. One of us had fish and chips, every item of which was completely overcooked (reheat?). No one asked about the food. Didn't want to send it back anyway given the amount of time taken. Price very high for the quality. Staff didn't seem to care much. Too much noise coming from the bar to be able to talk while eating.

We had 2 incredible meals at Oystercatcher. The service is outstanding. Thank you Chloe for your attentiveness. Nothing was too much trouble and you and the chef made us feel very reassured as a member of our group has significant allergies. Food was amazing and the setting absolutely stunning. We can’t wait to return.

The Cottage was just what we needed for 4 of us and a great price with the winter special. Fantastic view from the deck, comfortable beds, good shower and everything we needed for light meal prep in the kitchen made for a great stay. Bring able to walk to the beach and friendly and helpful staff made it even better.

Enjoyed a great meal at the Oystercatcher, Polzeath. A very warm welcome on arrival by the staff. It was Pie & a pint night which is what we both chose. Excellent food - a piping hot steak & ale pie, vegetables, onion gravy & a pint of Proper Job for £14. What's not to like ?? I have added a photo of the meal which does not do it justice, was a great "value" meal. Thank you to all the team.

What a great find. I stay away a few times a month and I will definitely be returning here when I am back in the area. A few weeks before Christmas, the place looks amazing, brilliant views, had great service in the bar and restaurant by Sam and Amy. The food is extremely good!!!!! Room is excellent, I know it is out of season but even so, it is great value for money.

Visited this beautiful bar/restaurant Friday night and was not disappointed! Really big inside, decorated stylishly, warm and inviting. Nice bar area with plenty of seating and a poor table. The toilets were really clean and a decent size with a full length mirror! The staff were really welcoming & friendly, Mike served us mostly and really liked his friendly, fun, cheeky banter & it was lovely to learn some history about the place! We had a couple of drinks in the bar then decided to stay and eat as the menu was extremely tempting. We were not disappointed!! I had a sirloin steak that was cooked by Sam the chef and I can honestly say it was one of the best streaks I've ever had in 7 years of living in Cornwall! I ordered it rare & it was cooked to perfection. Id been really poorly all week with no appetite but I cleared my plate! I had truffle chips and rocket salad accompanying it and both were excellent. My partner had the pie that was on the Specials and it was really delicious. The vegetables were roasted really well and you can could it was all very good quality produce. He even went for a dessert he never usually would try but was so impressed with the overall quality that thought he would try something new and again, it was really lovely. Chelsea served us too and was really lovely and the duty manager Ryan was really friendly, funny and informative. We highly recommend eating here & can't wait to come back! Thank you all for a fab evening

Absolutely terrible service and food. Waiters were rude, and were growing impatient and showing it with my elderly mother. Food arrived cold, and my wife’s food had hair in it. Would strongly recommend against going. Only benefit is view but this is negated by the fact that most seating is in a crowded inside room in which you can not hear yourself think.

My wife ordered the Sea Trout in a Thai broth which when it arrived looked a bit like s starter, it was very small. The trout was well cooked but the broth didn’t taste anything like Thai more like a poor type of stock. My daughter had the tofu Tala Masala, the rice must have been fried to warm it up because a lot of the rice was crunchy and stuck together. There was no vegetables in the tika masala sauce bit of tofu in a bit runny sauce. I normally leave a tip when dining out but sadly tonight I just couldn’t.

We visited on 27/8. They’ve made an effort to make the newish restaurant area quite smart but the overall experience could be improved greatly. Upon arrival we were shown to our table which was dirty and had rubbish on the floor around it. The menu and prices are commensurate with the location but it is a little generic ‘pub-grub’. The food was fine. However, the service was interesting. We were waited on by several members of staff and simultaneously kept waiting. No one seemed to really know what was going on and more organisation was required. We gave up waiting to pay the bill and went to the front of house, declining to leave a tip. The major faux pas was witnessing a waiter spraying cleaner on the table next to us without removing the water glasses, simply shoving them around. This prompted us to check our table and glasses which were indeed filthy. The same waiter seemed to have a fairly flippant attitude and other staff seemed fed up with him, which was apparent as a customer.

Great experience on Sunday for a group of 9 of us for lunch. We were seated in the large room to the back, where the roof can open which was just perfect on a bright but breezy day. Views are fabulous in here. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent, and we al enjoyed out food - roasts, crab, burgers, lots of extras and sides. We were probably quite demanding as a group adding in drinks, sides and sauces every time someone came by but every request was greeted with big smiles and quick service. Honestly a great experience over lunch, thank you and well done to your team.

Restaurant only visit We chose this place as it was close to our hotel and had some good reviews. On arriving, there is a small car park with the restaurant overlooking it. On entering the main building you are surprised at how big it is, the main bar area and the main restaurant. We were greeted by loud TVs showing football and if your not a football fan, suckitup. We were shown the restaurant and chose a table, were handed menus and asked for drinks. The menu is a little overpriced for the portion sizes. For example the monkfish bites were only 4 tiny pieces, the asparagus filo wrap with prosciutto and the smallest fish pie ive ever had. The wrapped filo with asparagus and prosciutto was way too salty and it overpowered the asparagus. The monkfish bites were good but tiny and the fish pie had great taste but only 2 prawns and quite watery. Recommendation Theres plenty of places in the area and i highly recommend Padstow harbour as they have better quality seafood dishes with larger portions and cheaper. The old ship hotel is highly recommended and they have a large fish pie for 20 quid. #garystribe #localguide #localguides #letsguide #cornwall #pubs #theoystercatcher #seafood

Stayed here for a week and on the whole I found service ok, however breakfast service was hit and miss! Jenny who’s been working at the hotel for 31 years is a real asset to the business , she was lovely and so helpful. The young girl who served me on Saturday morning was also very nice, and helpful, I complemented both of them. I came down for breakfast on Sunday morning and there was no place setting ready for me, Also no sign of a waitress, so I went to reception and ask for service there. Not long after I’d got back to my table the waitress came in her name was Alicia (hope I’ve spelt her name correctly) I asked for a pot of tea, she pointed to a pot of hot water on a hot plated, and said this is what residential guests have! Well this is Not how you make a pot of tea, as anyone knows you need boiling water. I asked again could I have a pot of tea with boiling water, she spun around saying I’ll get my manager, I found her attitude very unprofessional. Alicia would really would benefit from good customer service training and learn how to relax and smile. The manager came out with a pot of tea for me and put it down on the table with no milk or cup and saucer! I had to wait a further 10 minutes for my milk and cup and saucer by which time my tea had gone cold. I don’t understand why this was such an issue. I was wanting to leave a 5 star review but this experience left me feeling very disappointed. I hope you take all my feedback in good faith and I wish you well.

The pub has been taken back by St Austell breweries and is now so much better . Prices on food and drinks are reasonable . The menu is varied with a nibbles option if a delicious bite is needed with your drink . The staff are friendly and welcoming , the food options offer 2 fish , 2 meat , 2 vegetarian and a chicken option plus delicious desserts . There is a roaring fire in the bar and the emphasis is to encourage locals as well as tourists and second home owners , those who have dogs are especially welcome with bowls of water and dog biscuits . At last Port Gaverne is getting back to bring a local community pub with a quiz night and live music .
