Fish & Chips was brilliant, both are crispy. Oysters was fresh for sure.

Positive things first: they serve some really nice oysters - go for the medium sized ones and get a glass of white wine as well, and you'll be a happy person afterwards. Five stars for that. Now for the negative: their ordering system sucks. You have to scan a QR code -- they will completely ignore you if you turn up in person at the oyster bar and try to order there... The mobile phone connection is patchy & slow at the location. The online menu is bloated and confusing. And on top of that they automatically add a 10% service charge which you cannot remove! So, you do all the work: finding a table, ordering, paying, etc.. and they charge you for carrying a paper plate 2 meters from their bar to my table?!!? Sorry, that's zero stars... So that's why it's only three stars. It's a lovely place, good food, but a really bad ordering service...

Fantastic oysters, raw and cooked.

Went to get some early lunch, ordered 2 fish and chips, 2 mussels. Tried to change the chips for one of the mussels to bread. The person operating the till seemed extremely perplexed by this request, got a second member of staff to confirm that this would indeed be possible, to then discover that they didn’t have the mussels available. That’s fine, these things happen. We changed the order to scampi, and prawns with an addition of salad and bread. The fish and chips came out. The fish was small, my batter was burnt, and the real kicker, the chips were oven cooked ones. If they weren’t, they definitely tasted like them. Not great for nearly £17. The scampi and (oven cooked) chips came, then the prawns, minus the bread and salad. Prawns were ok. Asked a member of staff where tne addition items were, they didn’t know, slowly went to ask, didn’t come back. When we then asked again, they said it wasn’t on the receipt. Didn’t offer to get them added to the order, or try and resolve the issue, which was good, because by this point we had finished and were done. This was before the lunchtime rush too. We have been to this part last year and had some decent food, but not today, certainly not at those prices. Not in a hurry to come back either.

Very very nice! Fresh oysters of different kinds. Grilled oysters with Parmesan is local specialty - highly recommended along with raw ones.

Oysters were excellent. Local. Service was super slow but the queue was long. Kid was trying to sort queue out and older guy who appeared in charge wasn’t listening to him and just messing everything up. Kid appeared to be new. Should put him in charge. Not rocket science

Just tried the new reopened oyster shed just had a beer and was asked to use the app on the table which we did although the bar was empty . The locally brewed stout was £8.50 (Ouch) And they charge £1 to carry it five yards to your table . Could be a really nice place but this app business. Will let them down it took almost 15 min to get 2 drinks . They had lots of people behind the bar but wanted us to use the app . So it was 8.50 for the beer plus a pound delivery £9.50 .

Fish and chips are the best here! We ordered two portions, a bit pricey £14.95 with local draft beer, tasted great. Highly recommended! Unfortunately, oysters not my cup of tea, love fish

Horrendous food poisoning after eating 3 oysters each on Sunday. I second the previous reviewer’s observation that teenagers have been left in charge and this is clearly not the best shout. Everything unkempt and a bit grubby. Don’t take chances with seafood - steer clear of this place.

Wasn’t impressed the cod tasted as if it was frozen. Usually when you have fresh fish you don’t have water between the batter and fish mine had. I had a better cod close by in a fish and chip called Ossis’s for half the price .Don’t get me started a bottle of their ale £8.50 won’t be going there again. I was so looking forward to it.The restaurant seems to be just catering for tourists. I asked a local if they could recommend a local restaurant for fish knowing that Whitstable has a fishing fleet and she said she would go to Iceland supermarket

Pop into the oyster shed for some lunch. Food was very tasty, we both had scampi and chips and a nice pint of cider. The service from max and dee was super. And they had a great play list going. Perfect place to watch the world go by.

WARM OYSTERS - HEALTH HAZARD Tepid/warm Oysters, mishandled by teen kids (no actual adults work here). Ordered a plate of oysters but upon putting one in my mouth, imeaditaly spat it out and threw them away... I still felt stomach cramps and nausea. Dangerous food hygiene practices. Also, i watched one of the kids who works there applying suncream all over his face/body then imeaditaly handel food... Disgusting. Was also over charged for 2x whole pints when we ordered half pints.

Great oysters! Has more stuff that we didn't try, like fish and chips and even bacon and egg baps. The service was friendly and fast even though the place was full. Very good selection of beers, including two zero alcohol beers. Definitely recommended.

I had a deeply disappointing and distressing experience last Sunday. My friend and I decided to try the oysters at this place. Unfortunately, within hours, we were both violently ill, suffering from severe vomiting and food poisoning. It's clear the oysters were not fresh or properly handled. Can't comment on the oysters but fish and chips at £15 is too expensive for what they offer. Deep fried frozen chips and a fillet in limp batter isn't worth it. Mussels cooked in veg stock even worse value at the same price. Do yourself a favour and go to a proper chippie if that's what you want. .

I recently visited The Oyster Shed in Whitstable (22nd April) and had a perfect experience. The younger lad working there was absolutely amazing—attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The ambiance was delightful, and the oysters were fresh and delicious. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Whitstable!

2 days after eating 3 oysters at this place I felt awful. Avoid and go to a restaurant instead if you want to eat seafood.

excellent fish restaurant with genuine rustic feel. Food is well prepared and not too expensive although its not cheap. Good atmosphere and of course if you enjoy oysters !

We had squid and chips for lunch amazing batter and super soft squid .. chips were crispy and hot .. we even had one of the staff on seagull watch .. as it was eyeing up nicking a chip.. great atmosphere as it’s right by the harbour. Definitely recommend if your stuck for lunch in Whitstable

Brilliant little spot. Very quick with oysters shucking but because of the rush there were a lot of shell fragments. Still amazing value and delicious!

Specialist in Whitstable oysters. It's not my thing but the only establishment my friend will eat from while there. My friend had half dozen (£12.50) with lemon, as onion with red wine vinegar unavailable, there was Tabasco. I had a cup of tea, no choice, just English Breakfast, and a bacon and egg roll, brioche, although not advertised, £5.50, I think, cooked to order, expensive for what received. 2 packets of sauce, red and brown, served with it in a Styrofoam takeaway box. Staff friendly, seating available. Tourist location.

Place is lovely, windy, but great. Remember to take some cash in small change!! The one parking ticket machine only accepts coins( the other one is broken), and the telescope is 60p? Go figure! Other then that, oysters are definitely the best around!!!

Fresh, small, soft, sweet, salty, delicious Whitstable oysters. (Size and flavour might vary through the seasons I guess) If you love oysters then pop in. Casual. Unpretentious street food.

Excellent place to have something to eat. Prices are good, portions big and the best is they have their own oysters from their own farm. I would recommend this place to anyone who is trying to have a nice a quick experience. It’s not a restaurant, but quality is better in most of the restaurant. Very well done!!!

Had a bacon butty and a latte here whilst waiting for the rain to pass, coffee was good, butty was cooked EXACTLY how i asked and was hot and tasty. Service was great too. ( Hope the lads enjoyed Taylor Swift ) !

We had a plate of mussels with hand cut chips. Absolutely delicious. I’m a real sea food lover. This had be up there with the best I’ve had. From the Hand cut chips flavoured with Maldon salt to the moules marnier flavoured with fresh thyme. And all this from a oyster shack on the harbour pier! Excellent value and real gem. The beer was pretty good too.

Very good oysters to have, however its very slow service. You might be queueing for a while.

My friend and I went there to have a couple of oysters, they seemed fresh and tasted good but, the next night we felt miserable and vomited all night. We called the doctor that told us that it is food poisoning. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone as the quality is awful and you can get seriously ill.

Annual trip to a beach to eat fish and chips and say farewell to the year that was. Whitstable was wet and windy, but eating fish and chips from here at the seafront made us forget about about the rain! Fresh cod in light crunchy batter that melted in your mouth. Excellent value for money too. Top marks all round.

Nice ordering system with numbered tickets to collect your food and friendly staff. But the cod and chips were not good at all (fish didn’t seem that fresh and the batter was too thick). There was also a hair in the food 😖 Promptly went down the road for a much better fish & chips from VC Jones!

First visit to Whitstable and The Oyster Shed. I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Oysters but they looked so fresh and watching others tucking into them made me really want to place an order. £10 for half a dozen. The staff were so polite and friendly! The guy chose me some good looking big fat meaty ones... Loved it, served with fresh lemon, tabasco and tasted so fresh, juicy, plump and springy, what a lovely experience!! Would definitely recommend!

Fantastic fish and chips. We were looking for a very late lunch, and everywhere else was closing on a Friday afternoon along the quay, and we wanted to eat outside. The fish was excellent, batter thin but crispy, skin-on chips and huge portions. Nicely served by a friendly staff and finished with a half hour lifeboat trip. Many thanks

The oysters tasted great but fell terribly ill within the same day. Turns out others have had similar experiences, might be better off getting your oysters at a more reliable place in whitstable.

Relaxing place. Seats were well spaced out. Although the oysters were fresh, it had the "fishy" taste.

Only saw reviews after eating, but I'm glad because it may have put me off what turned out to be a great oyster experience! I waited 2 days before writing this, just incase. My friends and I all agreed that the oysters were super fresh and tasty, despite us making the perhaps risky choice to have them at 5pm on a warm day. If you're looking through reviews, just bear in mind, some oysters do carry illness; it isn't necessarily anything to do with the place serving them. It is a risk you take when eating raw seafood.

Expect to have to wait a while but the lads are working their socks off and great to see them getting plenty of business

Avoid eating shellfish from this bar. Myself and partner are in the middle of pretty nasty norovirus symptoms which have left us bedridden and unable to work. It looks like they had a problem with this in summer 2021 and haven't solved it.

We had oysters at 3:45 pm on Sunday July 18 in about 30 degree weather in the shade and although the oysters were in a fridge, they weren't on ice. A day later two of us got very ill. Disappointing!

Lovely little place for oysters and drinks on the go. It was our first time in Whistable, last Saturday. I usually like to check restaurant reviews, but this time I didn't. Unfortunately, me, my husband and my friend, got terribly ill yesterday night. Looks like it happens often according to the previous comments.

Unfortunately, my husband and I got so terribly sick after eating oysters here on Thursday. I imagine we weren't the only ones, especially seeing the previous reviews...The food handling procedures here should be reviewed to prevent other food poisioning in the future. We were miserable.

I have to confirm that my wife and I ate oysters on Thursday and were both very ill as well, this confirms the previous review. The storage cannot be correct.

All four of us who ate oysters and mussels from here ended up sick. As it was the only thing we all ate the same during this trip it must’ve been what we had here. Perhaps make sure you aren’t given the oysters that have been sitting out on a hot day!

Bought two tepid, tasteless coffees and greasy bacon bap at £8.15 served by two young females who were more interested in talking to their mates. Dry, slightly burnt .. wouldn’t go again . Had 3 lots of cod and some scampi and it was all totally over cooked ... not great for £45 😬

We were able to sample a dozen fresh native oysters as well as scampi and chips from the Oyster shed and had a lovely experience eating them by the beach. Friendly guys behind the counter who served everything up very hygienically. Well done for continuing to do business during lockdown!

Lovely rock oysters with choice of dressings 6 for £10. However, we had 2 native oysters to try and they were £4 each. I’m sure I didn’t see that price written anywhere. Felt a bit ‘done’. Maybe it was my mistake. Perhaps good to charge so much if they are dying out!

We never ate at this place because unless simmering had changed I am in aware of I thought we are in a global pandemic... The tables were squashed together it was packed the que was spilling out onyo the street and not one sign of any respect for covid.... No wonder we are on the rise hippie the owner gets his money though

Nice meal once you got the app sorted. Wife had the cod and I had oysters followed by Lobster. Wife loved her cod and the oyster was great. Now realise I am not a fan of Lobster but thats not the restaurants fault. Staff very good.

Wonderful oysters, freshly cooked fish and chips and local beer right on the harbour. A perfect lunch.

We visited on a weekday afternoon and enjoyed freshly cooked Fish n chips, Scampi n chips or Chicken Goujons n chips. ALL were excellent quality and very tasty. Served with lemon wedge, salt n pepper sachets, wooden cutlery and individual hand wipes for when we'd finished! Tea was perfect too! Not cheap but reasonably priced. Friendly Staff always a bonus!

I'm intolerant of a large amount of salt which is just what I got Now it's a weeks worth of pills to put it right ...told them no salt got lots and lots of the stuff also got a bad attitude when I threw it back at them ....just don't complain you won't get anywhere I waved 10 quid goodbye as they waved my future custom goodbye ....

My husband loves Oysters. Our visit to the Oyster Shed was great, plus it had other dishes on the Menue, for anyone that prefers a different meal. It’s worth a visit if you are in Whitstable.

No queue, nice view, decently priced but food is very tasty. Some variety in items and freshly prepared in view of customers. Moules Mariniere and the special of the day which was Halloumi fries

I was very disappointed as I was expecting something akin to the Shed on Mersey Island. Perhaps visiting on a Sunday may have been the reason.
