You honestly won't find a better chip shop in canterbury.

Had cod and chips, cod was dry and overcooked, perhaps it had been sat around for some time, chips were undercooked. Considering the high prices very poor service.

Excellent experience with The Deep Blue fish and chip shop in Canterbury yesterday ...we placed an pre order for a large family gathering for Good Friday..... hot and delicious food enjoyed by all....many thanks to the very helpful staff. Would highly recommend!

Read a couple of bad reviews while waiting for my order tonight and was a bit worried but the food was excellent. We had 2x cod and chips with mushy peas. The fish was firm and delicious and the mushy peas were the best I can remember having. Will be back for sure!

Food was hot and fresh, service was bland, not really any atmosphere.

For the price and portion size not worth it whatsoever! A medium chips could easily be seen a kids portion! Also I’ve never seen a battered sausage look so abysmal in my life.

Well unfortunately this place is overpriced and the food is mediocre. Along with some other bits, I order a standard chips and a large chips. The large chips were nearly double the price of the standard at over £5! And they barely had 20 more chips in the box. I took it back into the shop and complained and they did immediately top it up but still unacceptable. I won't be using this fish and chip shop again as there are better, more friendlier ones close by.

Good fish and chip style food, average portion size. Burgers are fairly unexciting and at nearly ten pounds for a piece of cod, not a cheap option for a family meal.

Spent the weekend in Canterbury and this chip shop was close to my hotel. Everything I had from there was freshly cooked and the cod bites meal with chips and mushy peas was ridiculously good! A nice looking shop and experienced good service both times I was there. Recommended.

Went for the takeaway option....no cod left so ordered scampi, food ok. Real wind up though was waited over 30 minutes for food cos apparently they forgot me although I was standing in front of them....total of 5 people served before me....not happy

First time of visiting this eatery. The service was quick and very friendly. The food was really nice and tasty and not over priced. Enjoyed this experience.

Have lived in Canterbury all my life - years ago have had great experiences with this Fish and Chip shop, but not today. The chips were soggy, the batter on the fish oily and not overly flavourful, and there were two hairs cooked into the batter of the fish, which cast a shadow over the full meal. Unfortunately, would not recommend based on this experience.

Only ordered cheesy chips and regular chips with salt and vinegar, the cheese on the cheesy chips was still cold and not melted and the regular didn’t have salt and vinegar on them even though I asked them twice

The halloumi burger was just a slab of halloumi in a bun with some sauce, be prepared to add your own salad in when you get home. The chips were mediocre at best 😞

It really is annoying when places don't update their Web pages etc. RESTAURANT CLOSED!! after a wasted walk from London Road across to you only to be told RESTAURANT closed !!! Please update !!!

Don't not eat from this place just paid 2.40 for a medium chips opened the box to find around 40 small crusty chips rang and was told that was right??? Drive 5mins down the road to marinos in st dunstans!! medium chips are 2.00 and you get that many chips three people can't finish them much better quality instead of dryed up chips and poor customer service!! If I could I'd give this so called fish and chip shop a 0 star but it won't allow me to!!

Hands down the worst fish I have ever had. Large Cod was basically a small with more batter. Batter was burnt with no flavour and fish was dry and overcooked where the oil had basically fried the fish instead of just the batter. A fish and chip shop that doesn't know how to cook fish is basically just a chip shop....isn't it?

Normally good but tonight my fish had been re-fried after an earlier frying and was inedible. A cheap trick and firmly decided NOT to go again.

On the few occasions that I've been there, I've had the feeling that serving customers is an inconvenience to them. Don't expect any smiles or thanks or apologies for being kept waiting. Yesterday, the chips were a bit ropey, and my cod was mashed around the box, as though they had dropped it. I won't be going back.

Great food and very affordable, we have definitely found our new fish and chip place!

Really nice place. Pretty much everything i have had from here has been decent. Chip portions are a little small, and sometimes there is quite a wait, but overall excellent.

A lot of cod for your pound, and by far the best chips in town on an evening.

I fancied a quite bite to have while I wait for my ride to arrive. Seemed like a good idea at the time, drinks refrigerator nicely located at the entrance and can help yourself. Order taken for the cheesy chips and, luckily they had some from previous batch. The lady even took the chips to a back room then returned with my order, to my surprise. There was a big standard cheese, not even melted as seen on the picture and some of it was still cold and knotted together. The presentation was not there and the taste of, this was worth my money was non existent. I was terribly dissatisfied with everything, so much so that I didn’t even want to give them a star. That’s how much I was annoyed with the service I was given

Small portions. Not a lot for your money. Chips over fried. Too much salt, not much vinegar. Chicken nuggets not very nice, very oily. Restaurant was closed. The best fish n chips to be found is Ozzie's in Sandwich 😋

Not sure how this manages the reviews it gets as I must have gone on an off day. Only came here due to Marino’s being closed and I have to say I was served up the worst portion of chips I’ve ever experienced. What must have been a quick re-fry of last nights leftovers not acceptable. Awful

We were served poor quality food that had been cooked in old oil. I usually eat anything but found this inedible. Please, do not put up with this type of stuff

Lovely service on a Saturday afternoon in Canterbury's "Papa's The Deep Blue" take away 💙 the cod and chips were absolutely delicious 😋and the fish was sooo fresh! I gave 4 stars because the calamari was disappointingly dry, it probably needed 5mins less in the fryer for perfection... Otherwise a very pleasant experience and we will certainly be returning for more 😁

Good quality, cooked whilst waiting

Gave it 4 stars and not 5 only because I was slightly disappointed in the salad that came with the grilled cod....apart from that everything else was top class. Easy to see why it is rated the best in Canterbury. I would recommend and I will be back....but pep up the salad guys!!

Great food and customer service

An hour ago I phoned my order to Papa's, drove to Wincheep, picked it up and have now eaten the the best Fish & Chips I've ever had. Great haddock, not over cooked and dry, good thin batter and great chips. Without doubt 5 star. Well done.

Have previously rated a five. Based on the latest meal this week - still rate the fish and chips. However, the curry sauce, normally lovely and thick, was like water. Also, ordered Cajun chips, but had next to no Cajun spice on them when opened carton. Made a big difference to enjoyment of the meal - please keep the old standards up!!

I have been eating the fish and chips from here for years. It's my "chippy" of choice locally because the chips are just perfect, not to hard or squishy like in other similar places. The fish is also delicious, I like haddock but the cod is good too.

Hace unos meses tuve una mala experiencia con un miembro del personal siendo grosero, así que salí y me prometí a mí mismo que no volvería a ir allí. Esta noche les di una segunda oportunidad, pedí 2 bacalao con patatas fritas y cuando llegué a casa después de 20 minutos ¡no teníamos patatas fritas! Les llamé por teléfono y la chica con la que hablé dijo que no pedí patatas fritas, lo cual no es cierto. No estaba muy feliz, pero en lugar de disculparme y mantener feliz a un cliente cabreado, ¡COLO EL TELÉFONO! ! ¡Qué grosero! ! ! ! Así que terminamos comiendo solo el bacalao, ¡y fue absolutamente repugnante! ! ¡Recocido, mantequilla muy seca y dura! ! ! ¡Nunca volvería a usar este lugar! ! ! ! ! ! !

If I saw the photos on here before we stopped I wouldnt have bothered. I can honestly say this is the worst fish and chips I've had. The chips are frozen chips that I can get from the shop, not any actual potato in sight. The battered sausage was also cheap. I had cod and well less said about that the better. It was horrid. So greasy and tasteless. And even if the food was great the lady behind the counter was just so rude and not welcoming in the slightest. If you would like a decent fish and chips. Don't eat here.

Fine for fish and chips but nothing special

Manejamos 20 minutos para recoger una comida y cometimos el error de no verificar que la hubieran cumplido completamente antes de regresar a casa. Me habían cobrado por un pastel de pollo que no tenía y, para empeorar las cosas, compartí el bacalao de mi esposo con él solo para encontrar un hueso afilado. Esta experiencia me ha hecho menos inclinado a comer pescado.

*WARNING* Check your order before leaving the shop! Ordered a chicken a mushroom pie, never got it but was still charged. Also the fish had lots of bones in the cod.

Visité The Deep Blue durante una visita de fin de semana a Canterbury. Pedí calamares y la ensalada de pollo a la parrilla. La comida era deliciosa, y las raciones eran generosas. La comida para llevar estaba ocupada, y había un tiempo de espera significativo, pero supongo que eso es muy esperado ya que es un lugar concurrido y popular de pescado y papas fritas.

The best Fish and Chip shop in Canterbury. Staff is excellent and very helpful every time I go there. They always look after me !! Keep up good work guys.

We came here for lunch and really enjoyed it. Between us we had the cod, haddock and scampi and all were huge portions that were freshly cooked and not too greasy. Chips were chunky and tasty too. Prices not cheap but well worth it. We would eat here again.

Ended up here after having to bin the chips I brought from Marino’s up the road and was relieved when I ordered a portion of chips and was swiftly served a fresh hot tasty portion of chips although the portion wasn’t very big

I felt like the cod and chips both had very little flavor. The house wine must have been the cheapest you can get in bulk. I will say the portion was large, but I didn't really enjoy it, especially for the price. City Fish Bar is way better. Sorry. :/

Personally, I find this place an absolute surprise with the standard of food served! A small takeaway shop with a restaurant next door, we were served (in my humble opinion) the best battered cod and plaice FISH & CHIPS ever! Apart from that, the meal were very very decently priced!!! Service was fairly good but the food is the main star 😉😉 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone looking for good fish n chips!

Normally a good chip shop but last night got battered mushrooms which are Normally large and covered in lovely crispy batter last night I got about 8 button mushrooms that were soaked in fat & the batter was wet! Yuck!!! The chips were so brown as well not like they were freshly done!

We went in here for an evening meal on our visit to Canterbury,it’s not a bad little place could do with a bit of a spruce up.The food was quite enjoyable you certainly got a good portion for your money.The Mrs went to the toilets and said they were not that brilliant,it’s a shame as little things like this let the place down.You can sit in or take away with a good selection on the menu.

Not great. Certainly not as restaurant. Place looks a bit grubby and you feel you want to give tables a good wipe down. Food okay. Not great and not awful. Will I return? No. Doubt it.

I visited this fish and chip shop at 9pm on 28th August because of the cleanliness of the place, however I was very disappointed with the food. The fish and sausage was full of grease. The chips were over cooked, crispy and dry as hell. You could tell the chips had been stood for a while. I ate about 4 and had to bin them. I only ate the fish as I was really hungry otherwise that would of gone in the bin. As it says in the shop, spend over a tenner and 1.69 goes on vat, the rest goes in the bin. I'm only giving one circle because I can't give none.

Just been robbed! Almost 7 pound for 2 so called large portions of chips!! I dread to think the size of the small portions. Box isn't even full. Never again. Shame as just moved to wincheap and this is my local chippy.

What a grotty meal straight in the bin It went today for lunch I had a real craving for chips 1 mouthful put a end to that the oil in friar probably hasn't been changed in a long time what a shame use to be nice food it was oily in looks and taste chips were dark gold looked like they were over cooked but we're not just a dirty friar

Some people go out of their way to eat at this Fish & Chip shop/restaurant. Once an award winning establishment. Some say the service was slow. I say if you want good food, most of which is cooked fresh, it's worth the wait.

Ein typisches Fisch n Chips Restaurant zum drinne sitzen und mitnehmen. Für Biertrinker gibt es Becks. Das ist ein Lokal was viele Einheimische besuchen mit freundlicher und schneller Bedienung.

Oh dear what's happened to this plaice (😁)... This used to be the best of the 2 on this street. Tonight no haddock again. Forgot to put my curry sauce in bag, chips were dark and limp as if been in fryer all night.and to top it all the toilets cleansiness was disgusting.

Nice clean place, quick service, and a great fish and chips. Little one was also happy with the kids meal. All in all a good outing

First time I have been to this place. Lovely seating area. Score out of ten for their standard fish and chips, 8.5 to 9. If you want 10 then you need to go to Hythe High Street. That said, really did enjoy the meal and will go again.

Had steak and kidney pie, chips etc. Not cheap at £6.95 but well cooked and no grease. Good service. Can recommend.

Tasty. Very generous portions, too large TBH, go for the small size! Usually a wait though that means it's freshly cooked.
