Beltinge Fish Bar in Canterbury

Having been going to get my burgers/kebabs as well as our Fish and Chips since moving here 4 years ago. Never had a bad meal and always portions larger than I need. Once, when closed on a bank holiday, i went into Herne Bay as I fancied F&C. Glad I had my credit card with me, didn’t know the difference in price to Beltinge, 20-30% MORE. If your of “more mature” years like myself, give the OAP portions a try, more than enough Fish, Chips and mushy peas for £8. Parking can be a but hit and miss and you will have to wait while fish cooked, as sometimes he can’t keep up! Not surprising though

My wife had Cod and Chips and she said it is one of the best cod she has had anywhere. I had the the special Kebab and it was huge it has lasted for three meals. More importantly though was the fact that it tasted really good.

I have been to this fish and chip shop a few times now and every time the food has been really nice. Good portions and a really good price. Highly recommend

Small doner found two dark hairs about 4 inches long disgusting 🤢 made me feel sick never again would I use this place i will drive to Herne Bay instead.

We are here on holiday in Herne bay (from South Milford near Leeds/York)and decided to try the local fish and chips. The fish ( cod) was beautifully cooked and tasty. The fish portion size was very good, the only thing we could fault was that the regular chip portion was huge. We shared1 bag between the 2 of us and left at least half of them. Highly recommended and will revisit next time we are in this area.

Alright lad, gonna be honest with this one. Best chippy in the area. Went up north on a trip. Them Geordies don't make as good fish and chips as we do down here. Also down the road from me mate's place. Head down the road get some fish and chips and sausages every time we hang out.

Great takeaway. Really great fish and chips and plenty of it, too. Friendly people. And anyone who has been to this place once will keep going back.

Put a huge order of £150 in online. Went to collect and customer service was excellent. Got the food home and it was all fresh and all hot and everything was there which we had ordered! Highly recommended to anyone who wants a takeaway!

Good local chippy. Service is on point but it’s worth noting there isn’t much seating in the place. Really only 6 chairs for waiting/quick individual meals. The price list was reasonable and the scampi is something I wouldn’t turn down in the future!

So pleased we found Beltinge Fish Bar. This is easily the best fish and chips I have had. Portions are fresh and generous. Staff are friendly and we look forward to the next visit.

Cleanest chippy I have ever been in!! The food was cooked fresh for us, but there are some pre-cooked items keeping hot and ready to go if you don't want to wait. There is a large menu on the wall with plenty of choices, and the shop also sells kebabs and burgers and has a kiddies menu, along with the usual things you would expect to find in a chippy. The staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. There is space to sit whilst waiting for your order, and the area is spotless. There is also disabled access.

Ordered online, was told it would be 20 minutes, arrived then had to wait a further half hour because order was not ready. Several bad experiences now, won't be going back.

Excellent food. Haddock well cooked and chips crispy and not at all greasy. Saveloy is top notch and always a good way of testing quality of food at chippies.Really friendly and kind. U will not be disappointed

This place used to be very good- great fresh food but recently it’s gone downhill and some of the food is served cold & has obviously been sitting around. We were regulars but probably won’t return after 3 recent below average experiences.

First time trying here as usually go into town for chips, food was great will be using you from now on

Best fish and chips I've ever had (and I've had a lot!)

Ordered 3 sausage and chips and was told it would be 10 minutes. After 40 minutes and watching 2 groups that ordered after me get served first, finally told him just cancel my order. Don't know whether they serve locals before everyone else but that's the only reason I could think of. I only live 4 doors down but never going back. Usually go dominoes, thought we'd give a independent business a chance.

Fish was moist and the batter light. One small portion of chips served two of us and too many left over for the dog. The poor reviews on this site are old. They date back to 2015 and 2016.

4 dinners as take away, delicious non greasy chips and fish that tasted fresh and not overly battered. A favourite of ours whenever we visit the area. Well worth the 15 Min drive from Chislet.

Two Haddock two Cod and two med chips.....beautifully fresh, nicely cooked with light crispy batter, so tasty and big family size portions all for £24 an absolute bargain. Super clean shop with great service too.....and its my local chippie.

Fancied kebabs so thought we'd try Beltinge Fish Bar for a change. Pleasantly surprised. Although I wanted a chicken doner they only do lamb but it was good and plenty of it. Quite like the fact that they give you a separate pitta bread. My wife had a chicken shish which was very good. Again, plenty of meat and very tasty. Will be using again.

For many years we drove down from the village into the town for fish and chips, however, we decided to try our village one. It is so easy to telephone and then just pick up the beautifully cooked fish and chips. I cannot eat too much batter so their fish on the grill with a salad is a real change. Real value for money.

All freshly cooked to order. Nice crispy batter. Good portion size. You will often be given a sample cone of a few chips while you are waiting for your order to be cooked.

Haddock and chips freshly cooked to order. The fish was huge and succulent with a delicious crispy batter. I was made to feel like the most important customer ever by the proprietor who was friendly and welcoming. I was given a few sample chips to try while I was waiting and they were crisp and light. I could ot wait for the meal to be ready and it did not disappoint. I will definitely go again when visiting the area and can highly recommend this chippy. They do kebabs as well.

Having been on a motorbike from 10am I was returning home and needed a bite to eat at 2pm. I was able to use my debit card and ordered medium cod and chips. It took the fryer 10mins to cook it and it was worth the wait. I sat outside on the roadside table and chairs provided and enjoyed my meal. If local do visit and I was in need of a 'pee' before continuing my journey home and the local conveniences were immaculate. A great stop on my journey, as always you get a larger portion of chips than you can eat; the seagulls were grateful to eat the chips I could not eat when I arrived home. I will return

In 69 years on this earth, this is the first 'chippy' that I have experienced that sells Spam fritters - and I will kill for a Spam fritter. The measure of a Spam fritter is, 'is it as good as mine?' The taste wasn't quite as good as mine, but the round size was enormous, both in diameter and thickness. All-in-all, an excellent Spam fritter. The battered burger was thin and mediocre. The battered sausage was adequate. chips were excellent - large cut and soggy. The staff were friendly and sample chips were on offer whilst we waited for our freshly cooked food. The food was excellent value for money- portions were large. We will be back again for more Spam fritters.

After a number of years driving into town to get decent take away fish and chips the one in Beltinge changed hands. Cooked while you wait, or you can ring with a time, the fish is absolutely delicious. From time to time we have ours cooked on the griddle with a salad which of course is low calory and really tasty. There is nearly always a queue which of course shows popularity. Well worth trying if you have not been there already.

We phoned through our order to collect, I had cod and chops and my wife cod roe and chips.We arrived at the arranged time and all was ready for collection. The food was cooked to perfection and the staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Best fish and chips we've had for a long time - even given a free sample of chips whilst waiting! Fish was perfectly cooked, chips delicious. Customer service was 5*, very friendly chap. Will come again when in the area.

This is excellent fish and chips at a great price. The staff are super friendly. It is mostly take-away, however we were able to find room to sit down.

Although the food is very good, I am very unsure about hygene in this shop, staff need to change - - wash hats and jackets, more often , staff always cheerful though

The food quality, customer service a overall please is still among the best takeaways you can have. Great value for money. Overall a great experience. Complimentary chips taste great!

They took a while to cook but well worth the wait. Some of the nicest fish we have eaten. Still hot when we got back to our tent. Loved the extras - the chips my wife was given to "try" while waiting and the tartare sauce sachets we discovered when opening the bag. Very generous portions and very well priced.

Had 2 fish and chips here last Saturday it was very nice not the best I've had but very good will I go back , yes I will if I had to give marks out of 10 then they get a 7

Always try and collect our dinner here once a week the guys here are so good and they know what we want as soon as I get in the door .. Boring never the service and quality of the food is superb and little touches like a small portion of chips while you wait is fantastic.Great value for money and you never end up having to wait for your food very long which often is cooked fresh to order too

We eat from here once a week. they cook a great chunky cod, the chips are amazing, they always give you some to eat while you are waiting for your fish to be freshly cooked, and anyone on a diet they do a fantastic cod on the grill with salad, the staff are really lovely, they also do deliveries call 01227 375314

Whent to this chip shop today for 2x large fish and chips 4x battered sausage and chips and onion rings and chips. After waiting 30 to 40 mins for them to be cooked when i got home the fish was over cooked and dry and it was a childs portion of fish and the sausages where rock hard and uneatable the onion rings tasted of fish. My husband took one look at the food and wanted to take it back but it would of been closed before we got there. If any of the food was nice i would say but i have never spent £21 on such terrible food.so now i am cooking as no one ate it .

food indifferent but worrying thing is that main fish fyer has been wearing same chef [ trade descriptions act may apply here!] trousers all week even when spottted out and about in town and at local hospital. The trousers are easily identifiable unless he has several pairs with black grease stains virtually from waist to knee.

Extremely friendly fish bar. Fish lovely but eat the chips whilst hot they don't taste quite the same as when they give you a taster in the shop.

We've tried this chippie several times since the current owners took over and we can honestly say that it's the best it's been for years. We have only tried the cod and haddock and the cod roe, but they are of good quality and the portions satisfy the largest appetite. The chips are obviously hand cut from fresh potatoes, so the quality is superb there too. Cheerful friendly staff and competitive prices complete the package. If you live in or near Beltinge and like fish and chips, you owe it to yourself to try this gem.

The best chips I have ever had from any fish and chip shop,anywhere,ever!!! The menu is great, they also do kebabs if that's your thing, all freshly cooked to order. Try their grilled fish with salad it's amazing you would pay four times the price for this at a top restaurant. The new management are great, very friendly and the place is spotlessly clean you could not ask for better. As a side note they deliver fish and chips, find another shop in Herne bay that does that!! Perfect.

This fish and chips has recently been re designed with new owners- all i can say is fish cooked to order and is of wonderful quality but because of this be prepared for a wait. Staff are polite and friendly. Portions are huge and i mean that. As i like crisp chips i feel these are the best in Herne bay, but its personal preference. Great value- give it a try!!
