Very small portions for the high price. Young Staff need training on their customer service. No smiles no interaction. Other fish and chip shops are very generous with their chip portions.

Worse restaurant for potion size meals asked waiter if I had a child’s potion it was so small , no knifes and forks and table, daughter bit into sausage wasn’t cooked, this meal for 2 adults and two children would have cost us nearly £50 and we didn’t even have fish . As for the salad well what can I say you would have eaten it in 2 forkfuls it was that small

Love their fish and chips, but they are just so disorganised and not willing to put themselves out. No wooden forks and they didn't go looking for any, just shuffled in box on countertype all dumb looking and didn't offer a solution, I had to repeatedly ask if we could have real fork from dine in area, that I had to go and get. No napkins. They served us part of our order to then realise they didn't have enough pieces of fish to complete it, so asked the fryers to put another cod on to fry, so part or order getting cold while fresh fish cooked to complete our order. Whilst waiting similar happening to other customers. Servers were blaming the guys frying saying not doing the orders right, but while we waited the servers were dishing out fish to customers that had ordered after us, so just totally not organised. We waited for over 45 mins. Bad bad service, but good food, shame.

Fish wasn't fresh and looked frozen was water and battery greasy. Chios pale and could do with cooking longer. No peas only mushy offered and soggy wet side salad which doesn't go with fish and chips to be honest. The one looked like a flat version of a pukka pie and told comes with gravy we never got it even after telling staff. Overall service was poor two lads doing one job and was polite but not listening well. Over all was dissapointed amd won't be going back sorry.

I enjoyed my time here. Service was ok, waiters were responsive and helpful. Food was tasty. I think prices are acceptable given the sea view and the location.

I would avoid this place, it's very expensive with such tiny portions, I ordered a large chips and I honestly thought they gave me a small portion. I even questioned it and they said they would add a few more on, but it was so small still that my 6 year old finished it all on his own. In reality it's a rip off. You are better off walking a little further and finding somewhere better.

Waited 45 minutes for takeaway order to find out they hadn't even started it others where waiting even longer the chefs attitude stinks no management missing items and the chips were vile

Food had hair in it. customer service is absolutely awful. not wearing hair nets, wearing leather jackets and they are RUDE, not very organised & unbothered when there’s a massive queue on a bank holiday monday, standing around chatting.

Trading on location really. We sat outside which was nice. My wife’s food came out quickly enough but her chips are almost cold. Mine then came out 10 minutes later, the chips were also barely warm and the burger was the cheap stuff you get at fairgrounds. £37 for two meals and three drinks, I wouldn’t bother going back.

Ok food but spending £44 for a fish and chip lunch for 2 peopke felt like we'd been robbed.

My girlfriend and i came here for a quick dinner last night,before visiting the pier ceylon club down the road.from the moment we walked in,we were greeted with a warm and friendly service.the decor is quirky and inviting and we immediately felt comfortable.I love that the menu is uncomplicated,lovely meal.excellent exceptionally friendly and polite staff.all of the food was delicious and fresh. Thanks for a lovely evening. I think we've found our favourite fish bar.

We went in and the restaurant was busy but there was a table free. We ordered our food but the waiter didn’t understand English and didn’t know the menu. My partner kept asking for cod and he kept saying “cod bites”? I had to physically point to cod on the menu and even then it took a conversation with the manager to confirm what we wanted. My daughter ordered a jumbo battered sausage and got 2 normal pork sausages. There was no salt on the table or even enough cutlery we had to ask for both after our food was delivered. My haddock and my partners cod were identical, they were mushy ant tasteless. I’m going to assume it’s under new management now as it’s completely different from anything we’ve ever had in the past. I didn’t complain as we were so disappointed we just left as we weren’t confident our complaint would even be remedied. This has always been our go to for food when visiting Herne bay but unless it’s just a bag of chips we won’t be returning anytime soon.

Very nice staff, very friendly and great quality food for good prices( especially for a family day out). Couldn’t fault this place!

Came here a couple of weeks ago, and the food was all well and fine, but the staff are just so unorganised, I'm sorry to be blunt but it's truth, the staff couldn't understand what customers were saying no matter how simple or properly they spoke, and as a result they kept messing peoples orders up, losing track of who ordered what food, and food would get cold very quickly. We were waiting for what felt like nearly an hour due to the staff taking forever to give people their correct food.

Nice and clean, with one of the best aspects for the outdoor seated area. Decent portions. Attentive service. Drinks all nice and cold. Recommended

The chips tasted incredibly fresh, they were fluffy inside and the vinegar used was delightfully tangy and light. Exceptional chips.

Overall underwhelming. Service wasn’t able to manage a larger group and resulted in a few cold items and incorrect meals. All sorted without a fuss, which was welcomed. Expensive full meals (fish and chips and mushy peas = £19.50) which was the same size as a child’s meal (£8).

Shame about waiting time… Jumbo Sausage had a weird taste but chips were very good. We sat on the tables opposite with a nice view of the sea

The only positives are that the food was freshly cooked and the tea was served with our main course was good. The rest of the experience was shocking. The service was very slow and the food was awful. The batter fish ratio was poor and the batter was foul tasting and very greasy. The Both dinners were advertised as 'cod and chips with a salad'. No salad but unwanted mushy peas. Very disappointing, poor quality, terrible service and we shall not be returning.

It's really a shame when a good seaside fish and chip shop that used to be good goes down hill. Cod was overcooked, Rock was smaller than usual and large chips were no bigger than the medium at most places. The poor girl behind the counter kept asking for our food and even commented at the chefs about being slow and was also disappointed at the rock when it got put into the cabinet! A "Managerial type person" was more concerned about how many cases of drink to order than actually helping the team! They also didn't know where customers that ordered after me (5 mins after) had went, so I called them myself!

Waited 15 mins for room temp chips and 2 amateur battered sausages. The staff were very dismissive. Chucking everything into a paper bag and walking off. We asked if we could have it in a box and that took another few minutes for them give us a box and left us again to sort it out ourselves. No napkins or cutlery given either.

The place has FISH BAR in the title, so my logic was that it must do good fish/seafood. We ordered the calamari which is a pretty basic starter/snack. The quality of the calamari was horrific, straight from the microwave and to add comedy to the situation one of the rings turned out to be an onion ring...I will be back again to see if they improved.

Very slow service , had to ask for a glass for our drinks then given plastic cup , all our order didn’t come had to ask for it , then in the end I had to go myself and find the salt pepper ect , will definitely not be coming here again

Fantastic food and drinks for us 4 Girlies and beautiful little girl on our day out. Wow the service and portions were spot on, cannot rate any higher! Will defo return very soon - just perfect.....

There really isn’t anything positive I can say about this place. Everything was poor and pricey too. My wife chose scampi, which was of the worst quality - clearly budget chopped and formed stuff and it was over cooked too. Myself and my son in law had saveloy and chips. I have no idea how you get a saveloy to have absolutely no taste whatsoever, but they pulled it off. All of our chips were inedible too. It all went in the bin. Yes, that bad. I guess being in such a great position they don’t have to rely on repeat local customers, like us - the day trippers are what brings their money in. Never again.

Two of the girls there Sophia wanstall and Jess phur gave my family awful attitude served me little portions and all the food in there was not freash lots of chips sitting there getting cold and fish there getting greasy and poor as me working at minis bay fish and chips this service and food is awful

The food was served cold, even our toddler didn’t want to eat it, the price was also expensive and £8 for a kids meal is a joke, really we should have read the reviews on tripadvisor first and we will not be making the same mistake again! Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

I queued for a very long time last Thursday 17 August as this Fish N' Chip Place had a few decent reviews! Well all I can say is that it was not worth the time it took to queue nor the time it took for my fish n' chips to be served! Very expensive too 😳 The chips were fine to be honest but I had paid £9.00 for what was a slither of cod in a lot of batter! Absolute mickey take! Will never use that place again and suggest that you too do not get taken in by the big queue as that is only because they have one overworked girl dealing with takeaways!

Nice location, on seafront for breakfast. Full English large plate of food. Both my eggs had the yoke broken and cooked through so more omelette than fried. Toast missing, For £10 I would expect the tea to be included especially as it was the cheapest weakest cup even after standing for a while. Presented nicely just needs to be better quality products for the money .

Family lunch for 3 adults & 2 young children just after 12 on a Wednesday. Restaurant was quiet when arrived & filled while we were there. Order was taken after we were seated & drinks arrived promptly, I asked about our food after 45 mins when orders were being delivered to tables that had arrived after us. Complained when yet more tables were being served who had arrived after us & said we would leave if it didnt arrive soon. No apologies just excuses. It did come, 1 lunch was wrong chicken nuggets instead of burger which was corrected fairly quickly & my 4yr grandson helped with mine until it arrived. The 2 fish wraps must have been cooked & sat waiting for quite a while - they were not great & i only ate half of mine. Not a good experience & we will not be returning...

Absolutely shocking food. Ordered calamari and chips come out cold, they brought it out again still cold! Obviously cooked and left until someone orders. The best part of the mean was the small plate of salad. Wouldn't recommend to anyone!!! And at almost £50 for 2 small meals. Avoid and go else where is all I can say

Lovely place to eat outside near sea front ,food was good but we waited quite a while but they were very busy ,but the prices are a total rip off £16 for fish and chips fish was good small bottle of water was £2.50 Fanta £2.80 can iced tea jar £3.50 kids chicken nuggets £8 small portion of peas £3.50 and small portion of curry sauce £3.50 total of bill was £80.10 for three adults and one child ,oh and they don’t have prices on menu won’t be going back there

We arrived at 5pm for some dinner we were seated fairly quickly as we sat down a waitress was there and asked if we could place our order quickly as she had another table she wanted to take an order for before the road was closed for the carnival ! As we read out our rushed order she again asked if we could be quick so she could serve the other table The food came out within 10 minutes but was cold like it had been at for awhile Disappointed as I had been wanting to try the place for a while having lived in Herne bay for 5 years I can say it was a let down

Although the location is spectacular, the service and food quality leaves a lot to be desired. We had to wait over an hour for our meals, after requesting to place our order twice. We were patient and hopeful but our experience was really disappointing. Of course, we understand a busy seaside restaurant in summer, but, the lack of communication and follow up to our requests was just poor. If you are going, go in the quiet season, you will enjoy a much better experience than we did.

We had breakfast here this morning and it was worst experience for the money I've ever had. The sausage had no flavour the egg was burnt and the toast was, well I don't know what it was - it was black and soggy. Avoid

Food and service excellent. We ate in roughly £15 including coffees (each). But we'll worth it. We will be back

Rather disappointed in the lack of training for the staff. I visited on Saturday, we was really looking forward to our food, but we were served by 2 young ladies who obviously had no food hygiene training whatsoever, one was standing in front of the fryer scratching her head, playing with her hair and flicking her hair everywhere, the other girl was standing biting her nails and playing with her ponytail and the pair just standing around gossiping. Such a shame as the food smelt amazing and just what we all wanted after a long day. If I ever return I'll make sure I'm served by someone that has hygiene as a main priority especially with covid around.

Food was way over priced and not great. We ordered fish and chips and pie and chips and asked the waitress for extra crispy chips and she agreed to this before we placed the order. When the chips arrived they were soggy. When we asked the waitress if she could make them more crispy she said they were too busy. Why did she promise this in the first place? As well the pie was heated up in a microwave and was very sub standard especially when they charge £8.45 for a pie?? The pieces of fish are very small and so are the serving sizes of chips for the p[rice of £12.50 for both. There are far better value places nearby. Will notbe going back!

I appreciate it’s my opinion, but I felt the chips were undercooked, crunchy and pale. They have been reviewed by others for this failing before. At first the cod looked okay, but upon cutting it open, it was full of slimy, scaly skin, which was really off putting. Why they can’t be bothered to remove this, is beyond me. I didn’t eat any of it. The bread and “butter” is also not butter, it’s clearly a synthetic, cheap margarine / spread. Absolutely no way was this worth £50 for two fish and chips and a couple of drinks. Won’t be back.

Pretty unorganised and lost stuff. Waited like 10 mins for someone to come up so we couod place the order. But stuff is wandering around, wiping tables twice just to make sure manager sees that they are doing something while dirty toilets next door. Fish ok, small, chips not fired enough. We had to ask for a ketchup, they gave us 3 little sachets ( 4 people).

A great location complimented by a well presented nautical themed interior sadly let down a little by the food. Our meals were certainly not awful, nevertheless they failed to meet expectations given the price point.

Visited last week, with a party of 5 for a takeaway and was highly delighted with the quality and quantity of food and we thought it was fairly priced. Visited again today, and dined in but sadly this fell well below our expectations. Today there were only the two of us, my food was acceptable, nothing spectacular but fine, but unfortunately my husband's meal was half - and I literally mean that - half the size of what we'd received the previous occasion. We mentioned it to the staff, who offered no other explanation than it being a different chef!!!! We settled the bill, but were somewhat shocked to see that we were being charged £3 less for 2 than what we paid last week for 5 people. Obviously, we appreciate that dining in carries overheads that increase the price but this was really over-inflated. I've read responses to other reviews about over pricing here, which are met with a response that the location justifies this. Because this restaurant is so well placed in Herne Bay, I'm sure there will be people who are happy to pay through the nose, for underwhelming food, but we will be taking our custom elsewhere

Great food and service. Nice to find a place open and buzzing when everything in nearby Whitstable stopped serving food at 3pm!

Visited yesterday with family and sat outside. Service was a little slow but we were a group of 8 so can appreciate that. Food fantastic but a little pricey and staff were clearly a bit stressed. Jugs of tap water/glasses given on request and plenty of condiments

Went here on Friday for breakfast informed them my husband has a dairy allergy, we ordered the breakfast wrap that was meant to be dairy free and he takes a bite and there is cheese in the wrap, within seconds he reacted to the dairy and i had to rush him to hospital and he’s still unwell now. They didn’t take what happened seriously, this could of been fatal and it’s absolutely disgusting that this has happened in the first place! If you have a dairy allergy AVOID this place!!

Absolutely gorgeous food and friendly staff. Sat outside on the seafront and thanks to a QR code on the table, you don't even need a waiter/waitress to take your order. Just scan the code, place and pay for your order online and then sit back and wait for your food to arrive. Great selection of food and drinks. A bit pricier than other places around but you get what you pay for and the quality of food is excellent - very tasty. Even though it was very busy our food didn't take long to arrive and, I'm repeating myself here, it's absolutely divine. Wouldn't hesitate to dine here again, ten out of ten would recommend.

Went here as part of a day out and about, it came to lunch time and we were greeted by the rudest member of staff who clearly did not want our business, they basically were hinting if you want to eat, go see the other member of staff as it wasn't their problem without once using any care in explanation, just plainly blunt and rude and it seemed like it wasn't the first time they had an attitude problem with customers either. We were seated and waited a good while ready to order and nobody came to take the order, we had to ask and when we finally got to order, we waited.......... and waited........... and waited.... was the wait worth it ? that is a big straight up NO, the food was bland, flavourless and even the batter lacked simple seasoning , the pretentious layout is a ruse to make you think you are getting something higher quality in flavour and ingredients, only to be utterly disappointed in what can only be described as wallpaper paste in both flavour and texture. The worst part is the pricing of said food, it is honestly far to steep for what gets served up, there are much better chippies out there that charge way less for better food! Overall possibly the worst establishment to ever grace the seafront, it seems all the low score reviews are accurate, please read them if you are considering going because you will experience the worst customer service and food available with an eye watering price tag.

Wednesday 8th September 2021 We asked for a table to be told by the manageress the empty vacant tables were for family’s and not just a couple like us. An argument then ensued between the manageress and one of the staff who was trying to get us seated. Anyway the upshot was we ended up with a table for 4 somewhat surprised by the manageress’s bad attitude to her customers and her own staff. We ordered our food and drinks with a very pleasant waitress. Next thing the manageress stood next to our table slagging off customers at the top of her voice. We also witnessed that she made a man who had already paid come back into the restaurant area to prove where he was sitting and to have his bill checked. It seemed the waitress had indeed made a mistake with the bill, no apology was offered to the man who left under a cloud very unhappy. Our selected food arrived and was OK but really nothing special, however be warned the Calamari was inedible and tasted like overcooked oil without a hint of flavour inside. It’s such a shame the owner was not around to witness this behaviour as I am sure he would not have been impressed. This business has a prime location and a captive audience but is run by the most horrible woman who is totally abusing this privilege because she can so we will be voting with our feet next time around. PS The one star is for the pleasant waitress and the expensive pint of beer which actually tasted ok.

Beautiful fish and chips, with a beautiful sunset. Service was sharp and quick via the app, and parasols to keep you in the shade when hot or cold.

We used the take away service at first there was 1 girl taking all the orders then you’re told to go and wait to be called when it was ready then a second girl joined I don’t think either girl knows what manners are Chips and battered sausage were good, service let this down Not sure I would return or recommend

This is by far the best fish bar in herne bay! Service is quick,food is HOT! My fiancée and my self have visited plenty of time together and with family each time staff have been friendly, helpful and food is fresh view is great out side and we don’t go to any other place apart from this one now high key recommend. YOUR DOING A FAB JOB SUNSET FISHBAR

Always try a different fish bar when I am in the area which is frequently. We decided to dine in instead of take away. My son and I ordered the Cod and chips.Why restaurants use those silly baskets to present the chips is pathetic, its not for presentation it's for ripping customers off with the small portion you are getting, our chips was not enough and half of the chips were the small off cut ends! What annoyed me the most was my son's cod was thick and cooked well. Mine on the other hand was thin and mushy! When i raised this to the waitess she whispered sorry and went on her merry way!For the hefty price you are charged you certainly don't get value for money. Tourist and visitors avoid !

I ordered a small sausage and chips they ran out of the small and charged me for the large sausage which I didn't order.

Got a table by the sea. Was shown by the waitress to the table. However I felt like I was ignored by the waiting staff. Instead got up and got a takeaway instead.

Awful place, awful staff. Go down the road abit further or down the pier and get yourself some tastier chips with half the attitude! It wouldn't let me give zero stars so I had to give one but believe me, they don't deserve it.

Since moving into the area, I feel like I've eaten from so many chip shops, so when myself and best friend sat here, on the beach literally, which is beautiful, people watching, in the sun, I decided I wasn't going to have chips, couple of cocktails indeed, which was almost perfect, but my friend did get chips, so naturally I nicked one just for taste, they looked a white colour, I wasn't expecting much but oh my goodness, how amazing, not sure what sort of spud they are, but absolutely the best chip I've eaten since I've been here, gutted I didn't order any, I couldn't taste the oil so the flavour was perfect, and a crisp outside, and a fluffy inside, I literally have never had a chip like this before, delicious, the side salad maybe not to everyone's taste, but definitely mine, just how I make a salad at home with regards to seasoning, my friend had scampi, she said was delicious, and was actually a lot of it, I don't eat sea food so I didn't taste, I would definitely recommend this lovely place, clean, tidy, the staff are very attentive, polite, cheerful, helpful, nothing was to much trouble, good job and thank you. Btw I didn't give 5 stars because I ordered the burger 🍔 and I was expecting more if honest, maybe a lettuce leaf, slice of tomato, of course this is personal taste, I also don't like slightly toasted buns, but was definitely expecting onions, so it was very plain, boring, not the best burger, but again that my personal taste and obviously being a seaside restaurant, and probably catering for lots of families, children, I can see why the burger is kept simple, but still would of liked onions.

Food was awful. Pretty crazy that a fish and chip shop doesn't know how to cook chips. You'd think that would be the one thing they would excel in! Chips came out white and soggy and needed a good several more minutes in the fryer. Burger was the type you get from a fun fair burger van but triple the cost. Salad was a joke too, a couple of carvings off of a lettuce leaf and quarter of a tomato. I don't like to leave negative reviews but it was the complete lack of effort that annoyed me about this place. One to avoid!

Lovely place with great eating area over looking the beach, great service from the staff but the only down side overall was very high priced food for what you got.

Been here 4 or 5 times in the last 2-3 years and must say its the best fish and chip shop at a coastal town we have come across.Was there today with my family, they were really busy, people outside waiting 30+. Our order was wrong but they fell over backward trying to make it right for us. Thanks to all the staff.

My partner and I thought it would make a nice change to try the Sunset Fish Bar when visiting Herne Bay. Sadly it was not to be. Despite several empty tables (it was 12:30) we were told there were “no tables for two available” and we could wait if we chose to, although it was quite clear we would wait for some considerable time. My girlfriend and I decided not to wait and went to Mackaris where we knew we would be welcome and well fed. On our return, we counted several “tables for four” with only two diners. I can only assume that we were discriminated against because we arrived on motorcycles. What a shame.

What a lovely start to the day. Nice cup of tea and a bacon roll sitting in the glorious sunshine by the sea.

Been to to sunset fish bar quite a few times last year was great nice food and nice staff! but this year been twice staff were VERY rude! Will not be going back unfortunately. I get they are under pressure because of covid but no excuse to talk to customers the way they speak to people

We really enjoyed our meal and had good service.

Created with a lovely welcoming smile, our table was clean, the paper menu was used once only. All good so far, our order was taken the meal arrived within 10 minutes it was very good. We had a bit of a laugh when I went to pay with my American Express card. All in all well worth a vist

Been plenty of times and always good food, can get a beer and nothings every over done - so never super greasy. Not open until 10.30pm as shown. Service could be quicker.

Frozen? Battered to hide its poor quality? It’s gotta be Sunset Fish Bar! 😍 Amazing location, watching the sun go down. Amazing service, specially Emma & Tom (and his amazing cocktails!). The extra star’s only for them two. Food was subpar, we had to send the calamari back to the kitchen. All food’s covered in batter and deep fried, the quality of the products’ very poor and the fries are very decent (hand-cut, I’d say). The salad was ok, yet no dressing and tiny size. Overall, if you want a Traditional (outdated) Coastal Menu, come here. Otherwise (and next time), I’d try Alla Turka down the road.

Went there to get a couple of breakfast rolls, whilst waiting place wasn't busy that early the guy in the kitchen was preparing food and saw him doing my order, firstly didnt wash hands after handling other food then picked up two sausages with his bare hands and cut them up and put them into the roll, I immediately said to him that I didnt want the order as I just saw what he had done, he didn't deny it, the server even said to him that he shouldn't do that, wasnt even offered a refund. Will avoid this place entirely from now on and will never go back.

Rip off price for half pint. Nice location, we just popped in for a drink mid afternoon on a hot day. Price of a pint 5.50 was ok. But half was 3.95! And they took £10 of my card.

Absolutely amazing fish and chips, always a big queue but you will see why when you taste there food, good customer service

The calamari was clearly cooked from frozen and tasted like it had been cooked yesterday is it was so hard. The cheese and bacon again clearly quick cook from frozen with half a rasher of burnt bacon and fake cheese. Tried explaining this to a staff member and just got a quick retort. Not what I would expect from a chip shop that charges over £60 for poor service and and even worse food. Had better at Harry Ramsdens

As a 20 stone man I’m certainly not a fussy eater but the chips from here where inedible. Literally the worst I’ve had from anywhere. Even the seagulls didn’t want to know! Avoid.
