my husband ordered salmon it was overcooked and came with a roast dinner and chicken gravy a very strange meal .I ordered steak and was told they did not do chips so it came with a roast dinner as well. The pub really needs a lick of paint and a good dust. Could be a lovely village pub but it feels like who ever runs it has given up very sad to see.

We had often been to the Ostrich for Sunday lunch because it is dog friendly, good value, has a lovely garden and we are always made so welcome by Tony and his team. But for a special birthday we decided to have a mid week evening meal and stay overnight. They said we could check in anytime after 12 and check out whenever we wanted to. Nobody at Travelodge ever said that to me. Dinner and company was very good. We retired to a large double room with comfy beds, nice views, piles of books and excellent wifi. In the morning we had a large full English, freshly cooked and a warm send off.

Very disappointed, but Tony Landlord was very helpful and over worked due to staffing issues. Had a very nice breakfast Saterday but came downstairs Sunday morning to be told I was to sit in same place. Thats correct as it was the same place mat from Saturday with the ring mark from the plat and toast crumbs lol. Room ceiling had a big stain on it from a water leak as did the wall. Cracked windows. No bulbs in the bedside lamps. The one light in the room that worked had 2 bulbs out. Very dusty. First towels I got 1 had a brown stain on. Nasty I didnt use that one.

We had a very warm welcome from Tony and Rosemary, owners of The Ostrich. Full English breakfast, was excellent and very filling. Great range of beers, lagers and wines to choose from. Comfortable and quiet twin room, which overlooked pretty garden. Loved it's queryness and fascinated by all the pictures and chandeliers. Just my type of decoration. Very sweet little dog and friendly cat, provided you don't tickle her tummy. Definitely recommend and we will certainly stay there again when visiting East Sussex. 10 out of 10.

I rang with the intention of enquiring about jobs. I got through and I asked to speak with the manager. The person at the end of the phone said "what is it regarding" so I told her I would rather just be passed to the manager. She then said to me that they were shut (I had no awareness) and that she was the manager. She then hung the phone up on me abructly so I rung back and said I wasn't happy with the way I was treated on the call. She then proceded to tell me that I was calling on a sunday night and "did I have no shame?" She was nothing but rude to me. Will not bring my hard earned cash in here and would advise others against doing so.

The ostrich didn't look particularly inviting from the outside but after a long walk in the beautiful local countryside we were desperate for a drink and so pleased we didn't pass by. A proper pub, very quirky, no pretentions and very friendly staff. Decorated with an eclectic mix of pictures and items, it has great character although possibly not to everyone's taste if you like homogeneous, pristine, copycat pubs. We decided to have lunch and although the menu was small and simple it suited us. Food wasn't fancy but obviously freshly cooked, very good portion sizes and very good value. And our dog was fed too. Great place

We stayed one night at the Ostrich hotel. They only have three rooms and we needed two of them, so we were lucky. The pub/hotel is eclectic, mildly eccentric in the best English tradition with lovely spacious rooms, two en suite and one with a private bathroom. They were very clean and had everything we needed from free wifi to spacious bathrooms to bottles of spa water supplied free of charge. We had a pub lunch at the Ostrich on Saturday which was very good but were visiting friends in the evening so could not try the restaurant in the evening. In the morning we had a full breakfast cooked to order. Tony & Rosemary were very welcoming. We shall certainly stay here again on our next visit to Robertsbridge. The Ostrich is very good value. The two twin rooms on the top floor should be very popular with families, almost a self-contained unit.

An extraordinary place. Victorian build and stuffed with every sort of dusty relic collected or given to the owners over the years. Our bedroom was a decent size and the double bed surprisingly comfy, the uneven floor meant that the wardrobe creaked as we moved about. The shower room and loo was opposite our roombut two robes had been supplied which was helpful. The owners who have been in situ for 26 years are friendly and traditional . Breakfast was full English, we were late down so I didn’t get asked how I wanted my eggs - two fried is what arrived! But the breakfast was a decent size and we were asked if we wanted more tea, toast etc . The experience was a blast fromthe past, I would love to see the place cleaned and modernised.

The landlord there is a unwelcoming. From walking in he was rude to a family where he threw a boys phone and charger on the table and refused to apologise and he shouted in the young boys face. When sitting down to drink we was instantly put of the ‘tropical gardan’ as there is a drain in the centre of the gardan making the gardan smell like sewage. Finally upon leaving the owner called a family a ‘bunch of wankers’ and proceeded to talk bad to his staff and costumers so if your reading this and you are thinking of coming here DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS PLACE PLEASE!

Popped in for a quiet drink and the owner was so rude to a group of friends sitting near us. I was shocked by the way he spoke to them. They told us after that bar staff had agreed to charge one of their phones but he came out and basically through the phone and charger at the young lad and said it’s his problem and they aren’t doing it. No wonder this place always needs staff and is always empty. The group said they would never come back and left and we won’t be returning ever.

Staff were attentive without being unnatural as were the other customers all happy to chat and engage. The decor was amazing and although shoddy this added an element of carefree and relaxed ambience. The roast dinner was tasty like my Nan used to cook and had all the trimmings. Although it was too cold to go out there, the tropical garden was also very inviting. However, this carefree nature extended to the toilets (I can only speak for the ladies) which were dirty - not the toilet itself but the room and only a fabric hand towel to dry your hands so you didn’t know if you’d picked up more germs than you went in with. Hence one star lost. I would definitely returned but armed with antibacterial hand gel.

Having recently moved to the area & after reading the good reviews on Trip Advisors, I decided to take some clients here for dinner expecting something special, what a total disappointment. Upon arriving we waited an age for a drink, empty pub but they were training a new bar person who was clearly struggling. We all ordered and the food came out very quickly, in one case the gap between starter & main course was non-existent. Two of us had Smoke Salmon Benedict, where the egg was not only hard but cold & the sauce congealed, the other Pate which was fine as it was clearly from the supermarket. For mains one had filet, one sirloin and the other chicken in white wine sauce, not difficult you would have thought. The steak was tough & all overcooked, the white wine sauce was thick with lumps as if it had come from a packet. It was quite awful and completely contrary to the TA reviews, so I assumed I had picked a bad night. I tried it one more time at lunch and it was just as bad, so will not be returning.

For £16, you get a proper T-Bone steak (cooked to perfection), chips, mushrooms, and salad.I will not dwell on the Ostrich's other dishes. They do not disappoint. To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.
