Ate here on our first night of a 2 day trip. Found the staff very friendly and helpful. We ordered a chicken curry which was one of the best I have ever eaten, my husband had fish and chips and was very happy with it.

On Good Friday we decided to eat here as we'd previously had decent meals. I decided on the fish and chips and my wife had the fish in a roll. My fish came in a barrel of hard batter that was so difficult to even get through, when I eventually did, the fish was so over cooked it was dry and tasteless. The bread and butter that came with it was half a crusty baguette that for some reason had been toasted. The chips in skins were also overcooked and hard Needless to say when we left, my plate was nearly as full as when it arrived at our table. I had intended on passing on my disappointment to one of the staff, but no staff came anywhere close to our table as soon as it was apparent that we had left so much food on our plates. We won't be visiting again. Fish and chips prices was £13

We met friends who had their dog with them so restricted on where to go for lunch on Boxing Day. We managed to find a seat in the Orange Grove although it was very busy. My partner and I had a pie which came with gorgeous mash and the best gravy ever. Our friends had gammon and a chicken Parmo and the portions were huge. The whole bill for food came to £45. Freshly cooked abs beautifully presented. Highly recommend.

We love Knaresborough and decided to spend the night there on our way up north. Booked easily for a very reasonable rate. Warm welcome and the room was ok for a night. Great location but as it is so central there was quite a lot of road noise all night. Nice glass of Pinot and pint served in the bar.

We visited the Orange Grove on 10 May. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by friendly bar staff. We had a couple of drinks and lunch while we were there. The food was amazing, I had the home made curry. My husband had the all day breakfast and he likes his food cooked really well done. The chef was accommodating in giving him exactly what he wanted, even though it was probably not how he would like his food sent out to a customer. The atmosphere in the Orange Grove is nice and friendly, the staff are really nice and they were happy to accommodate our special requests. We would definitely recommend popping in if you’re in Knaresborough.

When we sat down we were asked if we wanted just drinks or food too, when we replied with food the waitress sighed at us even though we’d said upon entering that we’d come for food. The food took almost an hour and was not worth the wait at all. I had the steak and ale pie and chips, was supposed to come with peas but didn’t - pie boasted to be golden puff pastry on the menu but was rock hard and very dry and the chips were thin french fries clearly from a frozen bag. My partner ordered steak and chips, the steak was supposed to be 5oz but was merely 3 bites worth. The onion rings that came with it were rock solid and hard to cut or bite into. We weren’t asked if we’d like any condiments and staff were nowhere to be seen. Pub was practically empty and still really poor service. Beer was flat too. Only reason we ate any of it was because we were hungry after waiting an hour and had already paid! Will not be back and wouldn’t recommend.

Had dinner here today thought it would be nice to eat out but as Knaresborough does not have a lot to offer in eats out I was disappointed in our Sunday carvery the meat was served to our plates by fingers I did mention to the young person serving he should have had a meat fork but then continued to put the meat on the plates with his fingers! Couldn’t believe it. I did report my concerns to bar staff & had half a refund it totally spoiled my day is it too much to ask for a meal out in Knaresborough? Apparently so!! And it wasn’t over warm maybe an idea to make your own Yorkshire puddings as well. Drinks expensive enough without wasting money on food that’s not worth eating.

We have stayed at the Orange Grove several times during our many weekend breaks in Knaresborough. The rooms are above the pub and are good for this type of accommodation in this area, kept clean and tidy and with tea /coffee making facilities. Noise from pub below is negligible and will not be a problem. We have always stayed B/B and breakfast is excellent. we have also had lunch there a few times and this was also very good and reasonably priced. The pub has entertainment in the evening between 9 /11 and this entertainment is quite good. This pup is located in a great position for everything that anyone wants to do on a weekend away and Knaresborough is a great place to spend a weekend. The management and staff are very friendly and very helpful with advice about the local area's,transport and whats going on locally. The only problem we have had is with the bookings, it is often fully booked and this is the problem with me giving it such a good review as it may well make it even more difficult for me to book again in the future???

Its not very often I write a bad review I have to feel really upset by the place to do so but here goes. We walked in to this pub for lunch on a sunday and they only had the carvery on, that was fine we both like a carvery so ordered it. When we got to the carvery the chef looked like he was filling the trays up turns out he had added water to the gravy to make more and had no turnip left. We got the beef as that actually looked nice it was pink in the middle and i got the only veg that was left whick consisted of what i think was watery cauliflower cheese, very over cooked broccoli and under cooked boiled potatoes. I got back to my table with a plate covered in a watery gravy cheese like sauce it was awful. I then tried the beef, it was tough and when i say tough i could not even chew or swallow it. Safe to say both me and my partner left it. It says a meal is bad when my partner leaves food especially meat as he normally can eat just about anything. Safe to say we will never go back again.

Visiting Knaresborough Market, we viewed the menu at the entrance of the Orange Grove, which encouraged us to have lunch at the establishment. The interior is pleasantly decorated and the bar was not very busy. The menu is a little limited, but provides some different choices to those usually found at a pub/restaurant. Orders are placed at the bar and food served at the table. The good quality meals provided excellent value. Service was pleasant, friendly and efficient. Our receipt was headed "So Bar & Eats", therefore the Orange Grove may be affiliated with this small local chain, We were not disappointed and would visit again.

This was my very first visit to Knaresborough and I couldn't leave without trying a hearty traditional Sunday pub meal, & The OG didn't disappoint at all - really friendly service, good decor, minimal waiting time and great food. The pastry on my pie was a bit on the dough-y side, but the steak filling was very flavoursome and made up for it entirely.
