Disappointing toast! Had eggs and mushrooms on toast - Scrambled eggs and mushrooms were lovely, however very thin bread, very lightly toasted so limp toast!

The sandwiches and cakes were made very nice freindly staff. But unfortunately we were placed upstairs witch wasn't a problem until we noticed the carpet had not been hoovered food crumbs and stored equipment piled in the corner the glass balcony screen had dirty finger marks all over witch we had to sit looking at plus the top window ledge was thick with dust and dead flys sorry for this review but the food was lovely 😍

Arrived for afternoon tea, we was asked if we wanted tea or coffee, when I asked if I could get a latte we were told it's £1 extra each the latte was nice but cold by the time the food arrived, no mention of allergies or if we didn't like anything I don't like a certain cake and when asked if we could change it we was told no that's how it comes, but you can buy extra if you want to, this was a gift so thank god I did not pay £39 quid. I did ask for the Wifi code after 10 minutes you just don't bother asking again, which is kinda the vibe from the staff they just seemed miserable no smiles, perhaps the owner should employ more as they never answer the phone or have a lot of time looking after customers. We wanted to get some crisps but felt the attitude from the two staff was don't bother me I'm busy. Probably one of our worst afternoon teas we have had.

Vanilla sponge 3 ways. Cream tea was very disappointing. Scones with cream were lovely, jam was cheap with no visible fruit. Cakes were probably the worse I have had in a cream tea. Two vanilla tray bake sponge, two of the same with icing, and a slice of yes, you guessed it, vanilla birthday cake. There was one chocolate cup cake. Prosecco was flat. Sandwiches were basic- ham - cucumber and cream cheese- salmon and cream cheese - egg mayonnaise. Spend your money elsewhere.

Went here with a group of friends for the ABBA evening, price included a choice of food platters. Food service was a shambles, my friend and I had ordered one cheese and one antipasti platter, it was given to us , then taken away as apparently wasn’t ours, we were then served a cheese board, just cheese, lots of it, with a few crackers…no antipasti …so I went to ask where it was to be told they didn’t think they had anymore, guess someone ran out to Aldi as something did eventually turn up 20 minutes later…. Another in our group waited over 30 minutes for hers and, yes you guessed, it was wrong! We had all paid the venue direct and said we were part of the group booking, maybe it would have been useful if they had taken names with the pre-paid orders to avoid all the confusion. The entertainment was ok but the lip syncing not great, had thought it was going to be more ‘live vocals’ but realistically they could just have had a DJ playing ABBA songs. As a group we had fun, as we always do, but don’t think we will be returning to this venue.

Went here for afternoon tea for two. We booked this through Groupon which was basically a half price offer , around £20 instead of around £40. It was ok for what we paid but would not have been happy if we had paid the full price. The bread was a little dry and seemed to be just standard thin white and brown sliced bread. Would have liked a little more quantity of sandwiches. The scone was lovely and fresh. The choice of cakes was a choice of three different types of sponge cakes. It would have been nice to have not all sponge , a cheesecake , a sponge and a tart would have been better. The sponge cakes were lovely and fresh though. Rather unusually you are limited to one hot drink per person and no refills are included. If you want more you have to pay for it extra. First time we have found this on the many afternoon teas we have been on. So basically it was ok for we paid but nothing special , it didn't stand out.

Myself and my Husband enjoyed a lovely lunch sat outside recently, the homemade quiche was gorgeous and portion sizes generous. So i sent this to email no reply...... Yesterday i came here for afternoon tea of 4 of us and this is what we got for £79.80. ( i sent a picture of what we got for that price ) When i have been here before in the past this was for 2 people costing 20pound, so how is this amount of food costing this price? Im absolutely disgusted for one sandwich one scone and 3 piece of cake for £19.95. The staff didn't even seem to care when i said that this is extortionate.  They just said that we are just minions and need to complain by email to yourself.  I would like to know what is going to be done about this. Giving you the option before i write a TripAdvisor comment as this is appalling.  We chose your place wanting to support a local business and yet we have been ripped off As i haven't had a reply from them i would advice people to waste your money there as its a rip off !!!

My friend and I went for afternoon tea. It was nice but I don’t believe it is worth nearly £20 per person. I have added a photo which is what we got for 2 people costing just short of £40. The staff member who served us was not unpleasant but also not very helpful. For our first visit we were not explained to what was included. We sat down and had to get up after a while to ask did we have to choose fillings or cake options before we received it. Then we had to get back up again later to ask whether tea and coffee was included. We was told ‘standard tea or coffee’. Neither of us could drink the coffee it was that strong and we’re coffee drinkers! There were 3/4 different fillings over 4 slices of bread. No other savoury or salad added to this. The rest was a scone each with cream and jam. A small chocolate cake sponge ( all 2 bites worth) a small plain sponge and a small pastry. We are used to going for afternoon tea and getting a choice of cake and also end up taking some home because we are full - this wasn’t the case. I have later found when looking at reviews there is a group on offer for £23. My bad!! It’s worth £23 for 2 but not £38. Unfortunately it has put me off going back but the other food might be lovely. The place is lovely and outside seating did look nice but we were sat in doors and not offered a choice (May be we should have asked more questions).

Went for afternoon tea. Could not fault the food but on the sweet side and ended up bringing some cake home. Service on the other hand was awful. As soon as we stepped through the door everything felt an effort for them. My mum is in a wheelchair and although they were informed well in advance the table was the furthest from the door and had to negotiate getting through a busy room. Drinks took ages to come. One small pot of jam for the four of us and when we asked for some butter to put on the scones they just brought out two pats of butter not impressed and will not be going back.

Visited for lunch with a friend on a sunny day, however on first arrival we were informed they were fully booked all day. Which is fair enough given the current environment, however after travelling allover retford we thought we’d ring up and see if anyone hadn’t arrived and there was a spare table - yes there was. When we returned and over the span of our visit there were so many walk ins and empty tables. That aside food was lovely. Unfortunately one waitress was actually quite rude, however the rest of the staff were lovely. Would come back for food, but not the service.

My third visit to the glass house and definitely the most disappointing, the second time I visited the service was disappointing but the food was very pleasant therefore the return. On this visit I ordered a ham sandwich which I thought I couldn’t go far wrong with since I had it last time and really enjoyed however, this time the bread was dry and there was hardly any butter at all. My mum had the fish cakes which were obviously not homemade and looked like they were straight out of a freezer box.The music that was playing was explicit for example, ’Rover’ by S1mba which is also not the sort of music I would expect in this kind of establishment. It was so cold that I had to put my coat back on and I was sat facing all the outdoor furniture which I found a total eye sore, I would suggest putting a screen up or covering it up as it really kills the vibe you have going on.

Went last night (Saturday) to see the quirky excellent singer they had on. Great atmosphere. It's safe - they are doing all the distance stuff and it's really clean, but it doesn't feel intrusive. The food is now top notch, with a great chef. It's a limited menu of platters in the evening - the melted camembert was lovely. The potato wedges were like twice cooked roast potatoes, best I've had. Veggie friendly. Don't be a pig like me and order pretty much everything- the portions are big and at I think about £12.50 each platter I consider good value. ,Two adults + 1 teenager stuffed to the gills + drinks and entertainment for ,£25 a head plus tip. They had tables to spare and it's s place to relax - I think you get the table for the whole evening- so I'd book in early evening - we arrived at 7pm and I wished I'd gone a little earlier. I think you need to have ordered food by 8pm - I would advise checking. Staff are very nice and welcoming .

So when our friends booked a table for lunch we anticipated good food as well as good company.Great front of house staff both friendly and efficient in dealing with coats and bags. One page menu at set price with many interesting options. Extensive and generally pricey but good wine list.We ordered across the menu and everything was very good and attractively presented. Attentively served without being intrusive.A nice touch was we asked for a napkin to take one of the chocolate fondant to a friend he was visiting locally. He was presented with a small box to take away.We all looked forward to returning again. If they survive the Covid-19 closure.

Poor customer serviceWaitress not bothered with a bad attitude... what cakes do you have? A nod vaguely in the direction of the shelf and answers just those... most of which were incorrectly labelled... when we ask to know what was in them she was very vague so pleased we have no allergies. The waitress brought the lattes on a batter old tray with milk slopped all over, I had to grab the tray to stop her spilling it on the table as she was oblivious.I asked for my scone to be cold when it came it was hot, said I would keep.it and leave it to cool down and that would have been that but then she came back and said they just came out the oven but they had clearly been microwaved as soft and the heat was concentrated in the middle. she had also to us and the table next to us they dont have anything freshly baked on Mondays. I ordered butter but had to ask for it, we also had no sugar and had to ask for that as wasnt offeredLatte had no froth at all, presented in a tea cup like an ordinary coffee...when she asked me how it was I mentioned it was watery and she said it has no water in it. I said no the consistency is watery and she then argued aggressively latte should be like that.... what happened to the customer is always right or how about plain old customer service skills. If you are going to ask for feedback be polite if it's not what you want to hear.

Waited some considerable time for anyone to notice we had finished our sandwiches to the point I had to ask for our table to be cleared so we could have dessert. We visited as a family this week for our first time to the glasshouse in Retford. The atmosphere was great, very busy but we managed to get a table which was great as we had heard great things about the restaurant. We ordered our drinks and food and the girls were very polite and efficient. The drinks came quickly and we didn’t wait very long for our food. Food was very fresh, tasty and best lunch I’ve had in Retford for a while. Unfortunately there seemed to be some argument with a customer which interrupted our meal as this man was shouting at two young chefs in the kitchen. He was making a complaint about his child’s food, which seemed strange as both my child said they really enjoyed their meals and for the price it’s amazing! He proceeded to shout at the girls even though I heard the chef apologise and offered to make a fresh dish of their choice. The way this man was speaking to the girls was disgusting and as it seemed he had his own child, I do not understand how he thinks this is acceptable. Other tables were also looking over and I found it very uncomfortable. The owner came out to speak to the man and apologised and offered a fresh dish. What more did he want. I do believe there is a way you can speak to people, the staff are not servants and should not be treat like them. We had a great experience at the glasshouse, it’s a shame he didn’t! Will definitely be returning. Next time we plan on having the afternoon tea as we saw it coming out the kitchen and it looked delicious! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area! 5 star.

His reaction was totally unfounded as I was sitting at a nearby table and from what I could see the food looked perfectly fine. They certainly didn’t have any problem in finishing it all and I feel it was obviously just a scam to get a free meal and drinks! Not satisfied with verbally abusing the kitchen staff he then proceeded to shout and point at the young waitress as he had not been given the free drinks to go with his free food - absolutely disgusting- all I can say is it’s a good job they have had the CCTV fitted as this behaviour is not acceptable and should be reported to the police. This said our lunch and cakes were amazing and the service fantastic. Great value for money and we will definitely be back soon . I will certainly not let the behaviour of an ill-mannered freeloader ,who based on his previous reviews is clearly a malicious serial complainer ,put me off fantastic coffee and cake

We visited The Glasshouse with our friends and children as part of our wedding anniversary celebrations. The noise from drilling prevented any meaningful conversation, the attitude of the staff was appalling, the customer service experience was a disgrace and alongside all of this the chicken served to our friend’s daughter was uncooked and could have caused her serious harm. We ended up eating our meal whilst she had to wait for hers to be re-cooked which completely ruined our celebrations. She was so upset and had to be consoled by her Mum and Dad. At no point during all of this did the owner, despite being on site, approach us to apologise for our experience. In fact, after meeting her at the till as we paid, it would appear she doesn’t particularly care about the customer, but is very concerned about her profit. Food hygiene is a pot luck experience here and there is blatant disregard for customer health and safety. If my wife hadn’t been so diligent in spotting the uncooked chicken on our friend’s daughter’s plate the outcome would be much worse than writing a review about this place. Safe to say we will not be returning and would advise others to avoid it if they value their health. I also find it very interesting that another local ‘customer’ has written a review on here from the very same day we visited and had this dreadful time. I doubt very much that it is a genuine review but more likely a vailed stunt by this business to protect itself. My friend was remarkably calm and collected despite being very upset about what may have happened to his daughter should she have eaten raw chicken and at no point did he ask for any money to be deducted - this offer came from a waitress which we later told by the owner she shouldn’t have done. The whole experience was one we will never forget for all the wrong reasons but we will ensure as many people as possible are aware of how this organisation treats its customers as I would hate anyone eating here to become ill as a result of consuming uncooked food.

The waitress forgot to order our child’s chicken nugget meal so was upset when rest of family was eating and she had to wait. The meal arrived and our daughter started to eat her nuggets. I cut the chicken up for her and all the nuggets were raw chicken - pink and uncooked. I complained to a lady in the kitchen that the business cannot serve uncooked food under food hygiene regulations. The lady said she had not cooked it. I replied that she may not have cooked it but her organisation did. She gave me a horrible look. I asked her why she was looking at me with such a glare. She replied I should learn how to speak to people! I was appalled by this lack of acknowledgement and atrocious customer service so asked to speak to the manager who asked me what I wanted in return. I asked for another meal properly cooked. When the meal arrived (by now the family had finished their meal) the waitress apologised and said they there would be no charge for her meal and offered free drinks for everyone. We asked for a fruit shoot drink for the child. The drink never arrived. The meal was disrupted by workmen drilling loudly apparently installing a CCTV system. When the bill arrived the cost of the child’s meal had not been deducted. The waitress on the till (a different person from the original one) said that we should not have been promised a free meal.! Clearly a lack of communication between staff. The owner came over to ask what the problem was. She also said we should not have been promised a free meal and drinks! Clearly there is an urgent need of staff training required. The manager offered no apology and we shall not be returning, We had taken our friends out for their anniversary wedding lunch and it was a disaster. I would not want another child to potentially be subject to food poisoning at this restaurant.

My husband and I popped in as we had heard so much great feedback about the Glasshouse and I can say it did not disappoint. The HOMEMADE, yes HOMEMADE and fresh quiche that I had was heavenly, my husband had the ploughmans and he said it was amazing! There was so much great choice on the menu that we will be visiting again, so we can make sure we can try it all. The atmosphere was great, greeted with a smile as soon as we walked through the door, a friendly good afternoon and some chit chat as we were taken to our table. The service was great!! The food arrived in good time all fresh, no soggy salad here. I had my questions answered with complete honesty about which was the best cake, although they all looked amazing I opted for the Victoria sponge it was heavenly, light, tasty and a huge slab of it! Washed down with a lovely cappuccino. This place is great, good value, fresh produce, tasty food, friendly and welcoming, you can tell it's run by family who value, good food and spending time together. Next time I think I will take some friends and experience the cream tea and prosecco for ladies that lunch, it would be good to experience some that the bar has to offer. Great place, keep up the good work. Get visiting!!

My husband and I decided to visit for afternoon tea, we were impressed . The sandwiches had a variety of fillings and the bread was very fresh. there was also a variety of cakes. the scones were really good. My only comments would be please put spoons for the jam and cream (I personally do not like digging it out of the dishes with a knife) just a small thing but it makes all the difference, also offer a refill of coffee. The room is nice and airy and there are tables outside. Would I go again the answer is Yes.

Came here today having made a booking via Groupon as a gift which was actually for the Opera Tea Room which was unbeknown to us had been taken over by new owners and renamed The Glasshouse Tea Rooms. Was quite worried when we were informed however the manager was lovely about it and stated she would honor our booking for afternoon tea. My partner and I enjoy and afternoon and try to have ateast one per month at various establishment, I must say out of all honesty that this one at the Glasshouse tops the table as being one of the best we have had in a while. Good choice of sandwiches freshly made, fresh scones with proper clotted cream and jam, followed by lemon posset, fresh cake and a few blackberries. All tasted fantastic and came very well presented. Staff and management very informative and friendly by explaining the issues from the previous business. Lovely surroundings and atmosphere, a great little family run business which has a fantastic future. Well worth the visit and and this is now going to became a place we visit regularly. Thank you for a lovely afternoon tea. All the best Lias and Mick.

We had an afternoon tea here today and we can honestly say that the food and cake's were equally as good as we had at the Ritz in London. It has recently been taken over by new owners and we were surprised (but pleased) that they honoured our gift voucher from the previous owner. The service was great and we shall definitely return to the Glasshouse.

We regularly eat breakfast in the week and Saturdays, trying different venues. We previously tried “The Opera Tearooms” and did not like it as the food quality was poor. As we’d heard it had been taken over, we thought we’d give it a try. Very disappointing - although the menu has been printed in with the “Glasshouse” logos it remains the same. We ordered and drinks arrived whilst breakfast was cooking. Breakfast arrived yet no cutlery. We had to ask for napkins, ketchup and salt / pepper, not great service! We had 2 full English and 2 kids breakfast. The bacon was inedible - precooked and warmed, it was like cardboard. Sausages were tasteless and poor quality, scrambled eggs over cooked and like rubber. Overall, poor quality food, over priced with poor service all for the extortionate price of £33.10 It’s a shame as the new owners had their chance to improve what was a failing business by making their mark, instead of just continuing something that obviously wasn’t working. Unfortunately - not an experience I would like to repeat.

My husband went today to try the newly classified The Glasshouse, formerly Opera tea rooms. First impressions weren't good as we were kept waiting for some time as one lady seem to be just drifting around and the poor other lady was serving, doing coffee and taking orders. Eventually, she came over and did apologise for our wait. My husband had Gin & Tonic cake, which although pleasane, tasted of neither and I had fruit scone, 'cream' and jam. Firstly, the scone was gorgeous, buttery and very crumbly. But the major disappontment wa the cream. I say cream but I'm not sure what it was, either squirty or perhaps, whipped. Either way it certainly wasn't double cream. Major no no for me. For that reason (and the latte wasn't too good) probably wouldn't be going back

Recently visited the opera tearooms for afternoon tea which we bought off groupon. Very disappointed. Greeted by an unprofessional looking “manager” who must’ve got out of bed on the wrong side. The afternoon tea was disappointing as the cakes were very small and clearly not homemade. The prossecco tasted like vinegar, which is not surprising because I saw the bottle and it’s asda own for £4.00. All in all in would’ve cost me less to go and buy a bottle of prossecco and make my own cakes! The top it off all it was a boiling hot day and the premises blantently had an aircondioning unit on the roof the girl told us “the owner doesn’t allow us to turn it on” how they can expect staff to work in these conditions when the heat has certainly picked up and allow customers to sit in the baking heat behind a glass fronts, is shameful. The only thing that looked homemade on the afternoon tea was the scones but they were tiny and were definitely not made on the day because I love making scones I know what a fresh one tastes like. I have been previously for this afternoon tea as it was bought a gift for us last year and everything was beautiful homemade cakes and fresh scones, maybe they’ve changed the chef but the owner should be selling what they advertise on the groupon website the picture is completely different! I understand with groupon you are getting a deal and I understand it’s classed as a bargain but you are still paying money to dine and we travelled from Sheffield for this experience and it just wasn’t enjoyable which is a real shame as when we came last year it was beautiful. I tried to explain this to the waitress but she didn’t really seem to care and told me to speak to groupon. I really am confused by that response. I thought the tearooms would appreciate my feedback on how I felt the afternoon tea was but evidently not. It’s a real shame but I was told by two ladies next to us after they heard us complaining to the waitress, that they knew it had been recently taken over and a new cafe was opening in the premises soon. So least some good news came out of a shocking day.

We arrived ten minutes late due to traffic hold ups to be told "We didn't think you were coming so we stripped the table." Soon corrected this and sat us down with a nice cold glass of Prosecco. The food arrived soon after and "thin on the ground" describes it nicely! Three triangles of egg and cress and three ham and mustard. I don't eat egg, my wife isn't keen on ham and neither of us like mustard. A small slice of (very nice) cake followed with two small macarons each and a scone apiece with jam and rather weird cream. Everything was pleasant but not much of it and little choice. When we left the waitress suggested we coudl go to the park and "walk it off!" We walked into town looking for a McDonalds!

Had a quick look at the menu and the food looks really good, haven’t had lunch here yet but I think we will come back next week for some. Menu is very different to all the usual ones in Retford and it’s nice Opera hasn’t copied the locals, there is a lot of cafes opening all doing the same thing. Went for Sunday carvery, really not what we expected. It’s not your usual carvery as you choose the meat and the server puts the rest of the food on your plate. The veg is on a table to the side but it’s mostly stood in hot water keeping warm, but making it tasteless and you cannot help yourself as it’s put on a plate while you stand there. There are different size plates to choose from but £12.50 for what you got seemed a bit much. The whole place is in need of a refurb and the loud music being played throughout made us decide we’d try elsewhere in future.

What a refreshing change to go to a Tesco store and find they have a proper café in situ. My local Tesco changed to Costa some years ago and it is dire in there, noisy, very expensive and very limited on choice. The café in Tesco Worksop is wonderful, clean, bright, great value for money and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I visit my sister who is in a local Nursing Home and the Tesco café has proved a godsend for somewhere comfortable and reasonably priced to get food and drink. Long may it last, wish my local store still had its decent café.
