My mum and I were excited to have another option for somewhere to eat in the village . After an “expensive” refurb and an ok evening meal on opening night we thought we’d try here for a Sunday lunch , given that so much money has been invested , surely everything should be top notch ?? No sign of a host , or any welcome , we plonked ourselves at a table ( no table service ) . Mum had to go to the bar and place our order , to be told there would be at least an hour wait for food !! Really ?? The pub was not busy , most people were eating/or waiting for tables to be cleared . We were thoroughly disappointed , as we would have loved this to become our local “go to” place when I’m not working . Sorry guys . Such a shame . Teething problems ?? Was hoping to book for Boxing Day with the family , not so sure now

**Review of The Old Red Lion Pub, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire** I recently visited The Old Red Lion Pub in Holmes Chapel, and I regret to say that my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered Oakham Citra, a beer that is typically clear and well-regarded for its quality. However, on two separate occasions, the beer was completely off—intensely cloudy, and frankly, undrinkable. It's evident that the staff at this establishment lack the knowledge or care required to properly store and serve beer, which is disappointing. The really poor quality of the beer was matched by the attitude of the staff. They were rude, dismissive, and exhibited a total lack of customer service. It's frustrating when a pub that should be a welcoming place to enjoy a drink instead leaves you feeling unwelcome and ignored. The Old Red Lion seems to have little regard for quality or the experience of its customers. Given the consistently poor service and lack of care, I would strongly advise against visiting. This place needs significant improvement or, frankly, should be closed down if it cannot meet even the basic expectations of a pub.

I stopped off here recently during a trip to Jodrell Bank. I chose my food, and was told that it wasn't available. So I chose something else, and this was also not available. At this point I decided to try another establishment.

The Old Red Lion Pub is an absolute gem! The cozy atmosphere, rich with history and charm, creates the perfect setting for a relaxing evening. The drinks are top-notch. The staff are lovely - Alex and Charlotte were great. Pub very clean. The starters were really nice but unfortunately the mains were off the mark. Burnt yet undercooked veg, roast chicken had been deep fried making it chewy and dry. Did appreciate the extra gravy on request. Lasagne very substandard. Appreciated the service though!

Lovely, friendly place. We go often to meet friends for drinks and also take the kids for food. Staff are always really helpful and friendly. Joe and Hatti are always happy to help and the chefs, Josh and Ethan always make the best food. Highly recommend a visit!

Beautifully cooked rib of beef on the bone and gammon. Accompanied by a good selection of root & green vegetables. Well presented and served by friendly, helpful staff - Charlotte, Emma & Alex. Left feeling very well fed and satisfied.

We visited for Mother's Day and were warmly welcomed. Due to dietary requirements we had to ask lots of questions. None of them were any bother to Emma who understood everything we were asking about and managed to organise food we could eat. Nothing was too much for Emma and we felt safe in our food choices. Visited today with a friend for lunch and a few drinks. Breakfast was lovely and staff were superb, the two male staff members who served us were attentive and lovely! They observed excellent Covid measures, even so much as placing a tray on the table and stepping back to allow us to take our items (I’m sorry I didn’t get their names) I am quite anxious as haven’t been out much for a year but would have no qualms about walking out of a place or telling someone to keep away therefore I was so happy to feel comfortable and safe. So much so that because the staff are so great I would feel happy to go back on my own! These things make such a difference to people who have been stuck on their own. Thanks guys xx

Recently had a superb Christmas meal at this lovely pub. James the Manager was very welcoming and he and the staff couldn't do enough for you. Covid measures were excellent and felt safe. The pub has a really lovely atmosphere and we were seated next to the beautiful Christmas tree which added to the festive mood. Very disappointed in staff behaviour especially the female staff Jessica and Kate in particular were very rude and unprofessional, laughing and chatting to each other behind the bar talking about going out drinking after they finish which under the current circumstances is very inappropriate an it has happened on several occasions where they have been out drinking with other members of your staff, putting us as customers at risk.It is a shame because I like coming for a drink after work but they let it down. Also I am aware that members of your staff are mixing with each after work and one of those members has come into contact with someone that has Covid very unprofessional and dangerous to the people that enter the pub.

We wanted to support local businesses after lockdown, and thought this was a great idea. Booking was easy and straightforward using the Ember Inns app. Met on arrival and shown to our table, they have a great set up, with sanitiser and tables at suitable distances. Even have a one way ordering system at the bar.Great selection of food, and was all delicious. We had a great three course meal, the desserts were particularly delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful, I will definitely be eating here again. Please support the local businesses, as the last few months have been hard for all of us but especially the hospitality industry.

I’ve been here before a handful of times, always at lunch time with my children & it’s always fab! Today’s visit was no exception....I had the bbq pulled pork wrap & it was delicious! The pub looks great & the two staff working were lovely, especially the manager. The kids enjoy it & like being able to mix & match their meal. The safety precautions in place are great, with sanitiser stations & staff regularly cleaning things like stair rails etc. We will keep going & would recommend.

decided to call in and have a bit of dinner in here today. I had fish n chips and it was very good. I have had the steak in here before and that was absolutely gorgeous and cooked just right. The pub is kept very clean and there is sanitiser everywhere, tables are washed down after each person and the staff are well and true all over it. Which is a good thing in these trying times.The pub not only has good food and is very reasonably priced but it has a good old fashion atmosphere, aĺ in all a very nice relaxing experience.The staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Great Pub and well worth popping in for a meal or just a pint or two

Only popped in for a coffee and catch up and ended up staying for lunch. Nice relaxed environment. Professional staff who always seemed to keep themselves nicely busy. Had a delicious sweet chilli chicken wrap and a nice pint. Will definitely be back.

My family decided to have lunch at the Old Red Lion on a long journey from Scotland. It was close to the M6 and seemed to have a promising menu. We were not disappointed. There is a public car park behind the pub but parking is free if you use the place. The food was several leagues above the usual pub fare and there was plenty of choice. The staff were attentive and friendly and clearly took a pride in what was on offer.

We arrived to be greeted by james the landlord of the house and taken to our table we had a drink before our meal was served and the starter was gorgeous and we had a little time and the main meal came and speaking for my party the meal was as good as the starter gorgeous my steak was cook just right and at the end the pudding was very nice as well all in all the whole meal was excellent and then the entertainment started and that was fantastic every body in the place was up singing and dancing a massive well done to james,mark and the whole team made the night fantastic thanks james from Mike and tina Quigley

The Old Red Lion is fairly local and is in a convenient location to meet family. Made our way to the bar to be served by the most miserable guy ever. What does it take to welcome people? We actually felt quite uncomfortable! He clearly didn't want to be there. Ordered drinks and food and made our way to the table. When the food arrived, I actually thought they had brought starter portions by mistake. The mac cheese and the hotpot were served in the smallest bowls ever. My son had the pesto pasta which was a decent size. The food was standard pub food. We ended up ordering desserts as we were still hungry and when the dessert arrived, the waitress didn't even bring us a spoon. Overall, very disappointing which is a shame as the pub atmosphere is pleasant with a lovely roaring fire. I usually visit the pub every month but after this visit and my last visit, (which was equally as disappointing, although the food was better) I'll think twice about going back.

I visited The Old Red Lion with my partner and parents for a lunch. The atmosphere was really lovely and cosy with a fire crackling away in the corner. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonable for a 3 course Sunday lunch, the roast dinner was excellent. I was compelled to write a review as the staff at this pub were truly excellent. My father has a garlic allergy which we had forgotten to mention on booking the meal. We mentioned it when ordering just to check whether the soup of the day would be ok for him to eat. The staff went above and beyond to check that every course he’d ordered was safe for him to eat, checking in with him what he’d be alright to have and the chef even prepared a separate gravy for him just in case. They never made us feel fussy and were very friendly and accommodating. An excellent visit!

Been visiting the Red Lion for the last 11 years with friends and last night was the final straw for us along with 6 of our friends who have said they will be frequenting the other local pub in the village. The reason we will be no longer calling in is because of the Dog policy in the pub which has got completely out of control to the dismay of many visitors in the village to this pub. Last night (Sunday) we along with other people were sat at the front entrance end of the pub when we were all subjected to howling from an out of control cross bred beagle? which spoilt the night for many. (Not the first time this animal has been allowed to howl) This area of the pub is supposed to be for eating and dogs not allowed. By the way management were on the premises. Even though the dog was howling / yelping etc the owners or owners of the animal did little if anything to stop it. Common sense is to take the animal outside or home. Thats what most responsible owners would do. Back to the point about where it was. This is not isolated. Dogs are seen / allowed into the area desigmated for eating on a more regular baisis lately and we have to say we know of at leasr 9 people who have jumped ship to the other pub in the village. We have no problem with dogs in a pub so long as they are kept under control and if they become agiated take them outside of the pub or home. Felt so sorry for the family of five sat near the fire eating who were at their wits end.

I Always Make Sure I Visit This Place Every Time I Visit The North From London, The Food Is Great & The Bar Area Is Kept To A High Standard.What Relay Makes This A Stand Out Venue Is The Staff.Every One Of Them Are Welcoming, Friendly & Chatty.Fantastic Place.

You can tell it’s part of a chain as the menu is very common to most of these types of pubs. The beer selection is quite good, especially as it’s only £2.75 a pint on Mondays. A pint of tribute or their own pale brewed by black sheep should be good enough for the average beer drinker. All in all, pretty good value for money. There are far worse places out there. Worth popping in for a cheap pint and a meal.

A wholehearted thank you to James and the team for wonderful hospitality for my fathers Wake. We had no hesitation in booking The Red Lion for this event as we always receive excellent service from James and the team. The buffet spread was exceptional and very varied and a gluten free member of the family was wonderfully catered for. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Red Lion to anyone. James and his team always makes you feel so welcome and today was no exception.

What started out very promising (nice decor and atmosphere, wide choice of beers and other drinks, varied menu with good fixed price deals) went downhill quite quickly. I was the only one of my group to have a starter and the wait for the main courses to come next got longer and longer. I went to chase things up and was told the message hadn’t got through to the kitchen. Fair enough, mistakes happen. However, when the food did arrive, it was clear the original message had got through but the food had been standing in the kitchen (it was dry and for example the gravy had “set”). Furthermore the bread with the fish and chips didn’t come; when I chased this I was told “it was just coming”. This too was a lie - please just tell the truth; we can understand and accept honest mistakes but don’t take customers for idiots. It’s a shame because the experience could have been so much better as the value for money is pretty good.

The food is very basic - I'd say reheated. While the waiter did everything he could to try and please what was lacking was an understanding that the food is pretty horrible - the coleslaw tasted like lighter fuel and the chicken clearly came out of a packet. The bar staff who took our order was completely switched off to us as customers. Horrible experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal today. Very tasty food and pleasant surroundings. Very welcoming and pleasant staff throughout. Definitely visit again. Was lovely to have a meal out and it felt as if we were on holiday. Roasted cauliflower curry was gorgeous ( and I’m not vegetarian)

Drink here regularly and it's a great unpretentious local with very good value and consistently high quality pub food. James and the team are excellent and it's our favourite place for a drink or pub meal in Holmes Chapel. They are trying to put on more live acts too which is welcomed as there's not a great deal of entertainment in the village. Don't want to recommend it too highly as we sometimes struggle to find a table as it is.

We have visited twice this year as my brother lives in the area and we take him out for lunch. Both timed the service has been very slow. The food was fine the first time so we went again. We had the roast chicken Sunday lunch. Again we waited ages although the pub was not busy. The alf chicken was tiny and cremated. Very dry. I don't think we will be giving it a third chance

We have been here before and hopefully thought the food would have improved but alas, it hadnt. No complaints about the drinks, service or atmosphere but the food was very basic, poor portions and overall was lacking in flavour and texture. My hubby had the prawn cocktail, a bit of lettuce with a couple of prawns in a very bland sauce, no lemon and the butter for the bread was not butter. His half roast chicken was so overcooked, it looked like it had been on a supermarket rotisserie counter for 24 hours. My pasta was very bland and had very little pesto or asparagus incorporated in the so called sauce. So overall, very disappointed in the food but would return for drinks only as the staff and pub felt warm and friendly.

I. Was here recently. With my friend we both ordered the burgers he had single I had a big double cheese bourgeois with lettuce onion. Cheese it was very. Thick my burger I had to cut it in have. Very nice tasty that also came with chips quite a plate full of chips. My friends burger look a decent size as well overall I really enjoyed my. Meal not to long to wait for it to come and the place was very nice inside staff were very nice and assertive overall. Great meal. Filling as well.

This is a nice pub with on the whole nice staff. There is a good choice of food and drinks. Drinks are a bit pricey but the food is very reasonably priced and good. We along with others had to send the baked Alaska back twice as you couldn’t get a spoon through it. We were told it is a frozen dessert which is not good as you should still be able to get a spoon through it. The other food was lovely. Been back since for a drink.

Came in here for a drink. It’s a typical family friendly pub with good food selection. Decent range of beers. Decor is ok. Not entirely my kind of place as I prefer kid free places to drink, but I recognise it’s a big market and this place capitalises on family dinners with young kids.

On a touring trip we stumbled across this beautiful place. It was a Saturday night and really busy. The staff were run off their feet but still had big smiles on their faces. We were told that there was a wait for food (totally understandable with how busy it was!) and that wait was well worth it! The food was gorgeous. All in all, brilliant food, brilliant service, brilliant staff. Can't fault it.

My husband came here for a nice evening with friends however he has just ended up with an £85 fine for parking when the sign does say free for customers. BEWARE. Himself and his friends will not be returning to this pub.

Four of us visited on the 1st February for an evening Meal. We chose from the set menu. The starters were very good (Mushrooms) The mains were excellent. Two of us had a pudding, chocolate brownie with ice cream. We expected a scoop of ice cream but when it came there was less than a teaspoon. We said to the person serving us that is was a tiny amount but I don't think she heard us and walked away.

An evening out with friends at the Red Lion in the early New Year was quite enjoyable, all was well until about ten days later Received a demand for a Parking Charge of £85 for a stay of 2 hours on the carpark, needless to say I shall not be returning so if you go BEWARE!!

Had a really lovely Christmas meal here today (Christmas day!) it's a gorgeous pub with a nice friendly atmosphere . The food was great, piping hot and very, very tasty, full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The staff were all very friendly and polite, and the service was second to none. We'll definitely be paying another visit soon.

Great grub and cheap beer pub. We had 2 courses for £8.99 and there was a choice of 4/5 real ales all at £2.49 a pint Good pub grub fayre and very reasonably priced.

We really enjoy coming to this pub because of the manager James. He always makes us feel welcome. He puts a lot of effort into organising special events and always has a smile on his face. One of his chefs, Steve, is great too. He’ll help out if you want something slightly different if your kids don’t like peas or something like that. The other Steve behind the bar is super friendly too. Most of the staff seem run off their feet at busy times but they never complain. I just think they need some more money for extra staff at busy times.
